So I have a rooted Nexus 7. For the longest time I had a late 2012 build of Cyanogenmod that was working great. I decided recently to update CM, and that update caused programs to crash, etc. So I decided, in my infinite wisdom, to try flashing it back to an earlier CM7 build, and now it wont even fully boot. It either gets stuck on the Google screen, or the CM7 splash. I have tried all the windows apps for flashing it back to stock, but they all require USB debugging to be on. I dont know what to do. I just want it back to stock.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, but i am a little confused. When I click on Root in the app, then OK, it searches for ADB, and doesnt find it.

What does your bootloader say?
If your 7 is turning on, it's not bricked.

I believe the term is "soft-bricked".
its in fastboot mode, its locked....hard to read the rest
lol...so i was able to boot into recovery and wipe the device....works fine now...other than cyanogenmod is still on there....

That's weird to be locked... Atleast you have fastboot on meaning you can unlock it. Follow the directions with the unlock tool in the toolkit.
Unlock wipe everything. Make sure do a backup using a dB

Well you believe wrong. That term is a made up term by n00bs for n00bs. Your device is either "bricked" or "isnt bricked". The phrase "soft-bricked" is nonsensical.
Just because a device doesnt boot to system it doesnt mean device is any sort of bricked.

No, I was just about to post same thing, seems the OP has been flashing wrong device rom.
Absolutely no sympathy whatsoever if that is the case.

Hey everyone, I joined xda to see if someone could help me with my problem. So recently I rooted my nexus 7 using wugfresh's root toolkit. I then installed aokp after i tried out paranoidandroid......i flashed gapps each time. I then wanted the old tv style screen off animation and using that toolkit, so i extracted the framework-res.apk ...........and i don't know what went wrong. Now all i can do is boot into the bootloader. When i try to go to recovery, it shows an open android with a caution sign in it. it just keeps bootlooping the aokp animation. I can't find any solution....help! i just want to go completely stock and lock the bootloader. it wont work with wug's toolkit.
Are you plugged in to your PC using the USB cable?
Yeah. Using the OEM cable from Asus. It charges and everything.....what do I do? I'm stuck and stressing about it.

Don't worry we will help you get it figured out. It's very fixable, mostly take some deep breaths and destress. When you start to panic then you have more of a chance of messing something up.
What happens when you use the command adb reboot recovery? what's the message you get? I'm guessing if you're extracting framework you're real familiar with ADB but if not use the toolkit.
Did ADB work before on your same computer you're on?

reflash your recovery via fastboot, not with a toolkit. then reflash your rom/gapps. if its still a no go, wipe then reflash your rom/gapps.

So i think all i need to do is flash the factory image. how would i go about doing this?
I just flashed Paranoid Android on my N7 running 4.1.2, and it's stuck in the boot animation. I've been on this for about 10 minutes now. What should I do?
Go back to recovery, factory reset, wipe caches and reflash

Try long pressing the power button to turn it off and try booting again. Sometimes it hangs on boot after flashing. Especially with certain kernels.
Wow, I'm in the same spot here after flashing PA. Can't get to recovery, PC isn't seeing it either. Been searching all day. Can anyone point us in the right direction? It will be much appreciated.

So you fixed it? I updated the bootloader before updating PA to any newer versions. I haven't had bootloops. I followed the DROIDMODDERX video on YouTube when I was on 4.1.1. In the tool kit thread it tells you how to update.

Reboot error related to paths?
I flashed my N7 a few weeks back (using goomanager) with 4.2 JB which worked fine. I then put on gapps and got an endless loop of error messages about trying to configure them. At this point I rebooted to recovery and put back on rooted stock 4.1.1.
I thought I would try PA again this week and the ROM flashes OK, but when I reboot the N7 "hangs" at the boot screen and goes no further. The same thing happens if I try SmoothROM. I can go back to rooted stock OK though.
I notice the paths have been updated as per 4.2 but otherwise things appear the same as before.
Any idea why PA now won't boot?
Thanks
mik
I have accidently formatted y nexus 4. Now there is no os in the device. how can i install os in my device now . Please assists what to do? I just have clockworkmod recovery v6.0.1.9 installed. I have tried to download and install the factory iamge from nexus 4 toolkit but it didnt work for me. Cause the tool kit could not download the factory image and install in my device.
if you can go to fastboot, then do it manually if you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Download the occam here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images (remember to choose the right model).
Then use the downloaded file for tools such as Nexus Root Toolkit.

For the manual, Follow the instruction, step by step http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
For the toolkit, you dont have to push it to your phone, leave it in your computer, go to fastboot then use the Restock function in the toolkit to restock your phone.
If you didn't download the stock image by the toolkit, it will ask you to download the image, just choose an option that allows you to pick the img from your computer.

If you download one of the images from the link inside it will be a batch file (flash-all.bat) you can just double click that and it will do everything for you.
U didn't format your Device. You prob screwed up your partitions or folders that contained system files. I would recommend what the other guy said.

I really appreciate all the helps.Everything went well. But got stuck on the X animation. Os is not loading . I waited more than 20 mins.
Turn your phone off, then go to bootloader, choose the option to go to Recovery Mode. You'll see the android dude lying with a red triangle. Press power or power+up+down or some combinations like that, I dont really remember, to enter the Options of Recovery mode. Wipe cache and do a factory data reset. Reboot.
How on terra do you even managed to "accidentally" format your phone?
Everything good now. Got my nexus up and running again.
I'm more surprised on why people don't read up on everything BEFORE rooting the phone in the first place? Surely it's common sense to know how to recover the phone should something go wrong?...

There must be a misunderstanding, so I better ask: Are you stuck on the bootlogo or in bootloader mode? You can turn on/off your device right?

Much better to learn how to flash a factory image with fastboot. You can probably save your data by flashing a cm compatible kernel in fastboot

I recently fixed an infamous bootloop i had by letting the battery die 100% (yeah I know it is bad), and then it booted. Well i went to flash a new rom and it never rebooted. I then went to flash stock from google. Still a bootloop. tried like 3 roms, still a loop. I then tried the killing my battery thing. Still a loop. Please, i know the phone isn't hard bricked, is there anything else i can do to boot it other than just flashing stock and factory resetting. Thanks.
Another thing, when i try to flash 4.2.2 the phone doesn't go to the boot logo.

Yep, if it didn't your emmc flash memory would be bad. I'd try re-downloading the factory image and trying again. Are you using the flash-all.bat to flash? You might try flashing all the components separately and see if any of them fail.

None of the flashes failed. I have tried redownloading and i have also checked the md5's, so i dont think that would be it. I have also tried reformatting through twrp, and then flashing stock. Still nothing.
flashing 4.4.4 separately got me on the starting apps step, but that seems to be the place where it gets stuck.
I need to decide if i wanna take another month trying to fix the nexus 4 or just get the nexus 5. Nothing is working and i think i should just leave it now. You can obviously get into flashboot, have you tried booting the latest twrp, wiping /system /data /cache and sideloading something different, like Paranoid Android?
Bootloop fix
First thing is that you have use Wug's Tool and flash the 4.3 stock image. In the Wug's tool select the option 'SOFT BRICK or BOOTLOOP' option and then flash the stock image in the fastboot mode. Definitely, I hope the phone will launch without any problem. The same problem I had faced with my nexus 4 and I flash the 4.3 stock image with the help of Wug's tool. Try it I hope it will fix the problem.
