Do you think they care? I don't think so.
Sony's software still under the name of "sonyericsson" how is that possible with 2 separated companies?
Sony will stay behind Samsung in term of software development and features.

This would probably require a lot of effort to change for exactly zero benefit to how the software functions. Honestly, who cares what the package names are? Their customisation of Android is actually one of the better ones I have used and I've had phones from most of the manufacturers now. Some of us are only experiencing minor problems with 423, which I'm sure will be patched in due course anyway. They have hardly been lax with updates to the Z so far. There have been what? 4 or 5 updates since release?

We all including me still trying to convince ourselves that Sony's software is better than Samsung's,but in fact it's not...
Sony's launcher is pretty nice but sill lag even after all this updates. My wife's S4 is smooth out of the box, even my old S2 with 4.1.2 is smoother than my Z.
I used lot of phones( different manufactures)as you do and it seems sony still way behind with software development.

Indeed, my GNex feels way faster than my Z. I don't really think Sony cares that much about all these kind of reports, I have an issue with the lens of my camera, 2 weeks and they haven't even told me what to do in order to get fixed!

I also had a GNex before the Z,and we have to accept in this century that 1.2 dual-core is faster than 1.5 quad-core lol.

LOL. Do you need a lesson in mathematics? The phone was released end of Feb, beginning of March, no? How has it taken 2-3 months for each update to arrive in that time span? Software needs testing anyway, even a patch. It's not code->release.

Opinions are opinions. Samsung are guilty of cramming too many 'features' into their Touchwiz roms for my liking. If they had toned it down a little, I may have chosen an S4.
I personally like Sony's approach of small modifications with a few additional pieces of software here and there. Yes, the 4.2.2 update needs tweaking, but they're stuck between fine tuning until it's perfect or releasing sooner to calm the masses screaming at them for the update.
They can't win

Intellectual propriety? As SE, they developed this stuff together. I believe Ericsson still have some rights on this stuffs.
And Sony will not reinvent the well wheel if not necessary.

If u go back a lil to the OP..and take a look on my SS u can realise am the first fan of sony in this forum..then let me tell u about the maths equation here..let's consider .350 and .434 as X (one update since nothing was improved or brand new) the same thing with .253 and .307 named as Y..now since X was the first release the equation will be X+Y=0+1=1 here's one update the second one was the 4.2.2 now we have 2 updates..let's divide 5months by 2 we get 2.5 months for each update
From now let's count how many months will take the "bug fix new 4.2.2 release" while samsung is upgrading to 4.3

I don't care if they have to rewrite the code again to make a smooth 4.2.2 experience.
Xperia launcher still lag since X10's days and they Don't know how to fix it.
What are they waiting if they have to rewrite the code from scratch?

LOL. WTF are you talking about? You can't lump different software versions together "because nothing was improved or brand new". For a start, 434 was released to solve the SOD problem I believe, so must have some differences to 350. Just because nothing cosmetic has changed, doesn't mean significant changes that require testing haven't happened to the code.
Released with 350->434->253->307->423.
Try working out how long between updates again, without your false view of which updates count

Semantics. They have tested and released 4 versions of software since release. It doesn't matter what you think counts or how you try to twist it to make them look bad.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2

Code had to be UPDATED right? Fix/Feature/Base change/New Font doesn't matter its an update to the codebase.
Its petty trying to redefine update to suit the argument, it is what it is by nature of what has to be done. Minor or major is irrelevant it took effort went through testing (whether it was thorough or not is another issue) and was deployed. By you definition the 4.2.2 bugfixes wouldn't even be counted so they could be days away
Now on topic, I have no lag in launcher/album or maybe they are so micro they are instantly ignored. I don't actually use any Sony Widgets so that maybe why as well as my homescreen is fb/G+/Twitter widget/Calendar widgets and a bunch of shortcuts. I wouldn't say its lag free but we all use our phone differently so your issues are not going to be my issues.

I don't understand the testing they do before the firmware release that took one month?
I don't think we or me need more than 2-3 days to reveal all the bugs in any firmware,i am right?
All the testing stage is a b***s**t, the real people who is testing the firmwares are the customers.
If you look at the kernel in about phone,it was made in May and the firmware was released in June so one month.
Does the testing team are blind?they can't see the bugs??

The Never Again thing ended a month ago when Samsung decided to give us FROYO. even though it wasn't the OFFICIAL OTA, but we still got it didn't we?
Their hardware is great.
You want to complain about Samsung? You think we have it tough? Motorola in the past has always had LOCKED bootloaders, meaning NO ROMS for you.
We got the updates, and our devs have already begun on Gingerbread.
most of the phone's aren't even on Froyo dude.
Be thankful and positive instead of thinking negative 24/7.
If you get the S2, your 3G will not work on Tmobile in the US. The S2 runs on HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 frequencies, you want one that runs on 1700 / 2100 for your Tmobile to work at 3G speeds. Otherwise you're stuck on the Edge network.
Believe me, that was the first thing I checked when this phone was released for specs. It sucks, because I too am very interested in it. Personally I'd hands down much rather have the I9000 than the Vibrant, but I know if I ordered one, I'd be stuck with no 3G.
So yeah, if you're not on Tmobile in the US (if you're on say AT&T) then go for it. You'll probably get the next two maybe three releases of Android with it.
EDIT: This is assuming you get the S2 that's being released soon. If you wait for the Tmobile version, then yeah that'll obviously work and probably have 4G (and be running Eclair jk )

I'd disagree.
I THINK Eugene wasn't even working on Gingerbread, and neither was Master. A few other dev's left, and i think its a tragedy, because we DO need them in the end.
The only roms that i know are working on GingerBread is the EDT team, CM7, and TW
Yes, we probably need Eugene, and the others to get the other things such as kernels modems etc..
but I see what your trying to say, and agree with it, but not 100%
It would definitely be worth the upgrade. Assuming the phone comes to T-Mobile which I believe it will. This phone will either have the Exynos duo core or Tegra 2 chip with gingerbread. Gingerbread will be able to fully utilize the phones maximum potential.

I agree that Motorola and the locked bootloaders is worse than what Samsung does, however, that doesn't excuse them for practically abandoning Vibrant users. Yes, they released Froyo through Kies, but like you said, it wasn't official OTA, and to be fair it was not even close to the quality our devs produce in a fraction of the time. I'm happy with my Vibrant and we are fortunate for the great dev community and ease at which we can root, but you'd be an idiot to expect that to carry over to next gen Samsung devices. I'm not saying the next Samsung device will necessarily be any harder to root, but I wouldn't count on a the devs being their for the next gen Samsung devices. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong, and I hope I am. To sum it up, with the rep Samsung devices (except the Nexus S) have gotten so far, I wouldn't pick up another Samsung device and expect the dev community to be just as great as the one for Galaxy S devices.

Shame on Google for what?
In the Q&A, someone from SFR clarifies that the update has been delayed and they don't have an ETA yet. That's all it means. We didn't have an ETA before, so in effect nothing has changed.
This French site is making it up as they go along. They are talking out of their rear end.
I'm happy with 4.0.3. so what is the rush?
Why would Google give inside information to some tin-pot French operator when they have bigger fish to fry with their bigger markets?
They are bullshitting.

Yeah, it makes zero sense. Google isn't "suspending" an update that never existed to begin with. They are surely working on 4.0.4 or whatever comes next and will release it as soon as it passes the QA tests.

Lol... that tin-pot provider is pretty big in France, which is a part of the not so small European market. And as far as I remember, us Europeans are the only ones so far who've got an official update. (Plus the American off-shoot, T-Mobile, of course).

It is also the only source of this rumor and has never been verified by any outside source. Therefore, I tend to believe it is nonsense. And it seems the initial report was inaccurate so it is hard to blame Google for information they didn't release that was not true.
Google must be doing something really big in the next update. Otherwise they wouldn't have delayed it for 3 months.
Or maybe Google devs are too much busy with 5.0 that they are hardly concerned with further updates on ICS.
Just wild guesses. Waiting for a surprise from Google.

My thoughts exactly. They must be cooking up something good.

Not that I want Google to rush or anything, but I must say ICS on my Nexus S (Tmobile) runs quite poorly. Things hiccup and lag a bit, and when returning to the home screen (especially from Chrome or games), the home screen icons can take upwards of 5+ seconds to load. It happens frequently, and is quite frustrating.
Don't get me wrong, I love ICS, but owning a Nexus device to get the latest update is slightly overrated if it means my year+ old phone can't run it well due to hardware limitations. Kind of makes the second year of owning this device less enjoyable.
I'm hoping an update will address this.

For not realising a bugfixed version of ICS or not releasing practically any version at all on some models. It's the first time that google experience phones will get update after the others...and the comments after mine seem not to disagree so much...
How is something that was never officially planned be suspended??

I just can't believe the support the majority give to the Google monkeys

Ok, maybe i was one of only a little number of people that had major problems with 4.2 and ill almost accept that. I can't get over how many of you passionately stick up for an obviously screwed up update! Is everyone brainwashed? like the apple whackos that think having to upgrade their phone every few months is cool. Face it it sucks! Admit it and stop defending Google.
So your telling me that all the app developers are supposed to change thier apps to work with every whim that the monkeys see fit? Shouldn't Google make these updates with respect that the apps work with their update? There are many apps out there and only a few different versions of Android, so why should all these app developers have to jump through hoops to make thier already good working apps work with every damn android update?
I bought into that belief when I bought my Nexus 7 with jellybean and was like ok this is new technology, I must be patient and they will fix all the apps that are not compatible, guess what there are still a lot that are not compatible and a lot that had to be side loaded to even install. Well seeing the sheep saying again that its the app developers fault that they wont run is complete lunacy. Wake up sheep Google is the problem!

4.2 is a great update.
Also JB itself is a dramatic change.
Apps are designed to work within the OS. When the OS changes, apps need to change. In order to be fresh, Google changes things. Not everyone will like the changes.
If you get mad at change, try a different manufacturer. Maybe Samsung or Toshiba. They do not update as frequently. They are also not what Google considers pure.
You clearly don't like Googles vision, as such, you should not own Googles tablet.

You should sell your N7 and never get another Android device.
I updated to 4.2 prepared for downgrading back to 4.1.2 if I don't like it but it happened that I actually DO like it - a lot.
Not because people like you call me names, but because of the new and enhanced features.
And of course there is bugs - especially with multiuser - as it's a completely new feature and those need ironing out, but they will be ironed out.

No.
It's the dev's own fault when their apps don't work.
Apps developed by following the guidelines and maybe even the best-practises WORK!
Only if you're a sloppy dev and you don't follow the guidelinesy our app may/will break, because it didn't propperly work fromt he very beginning you just got way unnoticed with it.
Best example it using a hardcoded "/sdcard" instead of the global property available pointing to the correct path.
And Google even took account for this - and numerous other - situation, so even you coded sloppy things still work (mostly, but there's limits to that as well).

See above, your argument there is completely null and void.
I'm so miffed that some of the games and programs that I used under Windows 95 don't work under 7. Dammit, an operating system should be fully backwards compatible and it's wholly unreasonable to expect software developers to have to update for the changes.
Seriously, persuasive argument does not seem to be your forte. We all get it... you don't like 4.2. That's your opinion and, for whatever it's worth, that's okay. Others like it or just feel lukewarm about it. Their opinions are no less valid than your own.
Are you so insecure in your opinion that you feel it's actually bolstered by ad hominem? Rather than bolstering it, they significantly cheapen it. That being said,it's ironic that you mentioned fanbois, because rabid tirades discounting others as being "sheep" for having an opinion that differs from your own is textbook behavior.

CM10/CM11 soon?

Hi, is there any devs that are complining CM10 or CM11 for our Note 3 devices yet? Wondering since the device is so popular that noone yet has managed to get Cyanogenmod on it.. sure it will come soon just wondering if anyone is doing some progress?

I'd love this to happen but it's still a relatively new device.
Be patient
Never ask for ETA's. Been a Cyanogenmod rule since CMod 4.
At this point, I don't even want an ETA - I just want to know IF they plan to release CM for GN3. The wait on this device has been disproportionally longer than others (e.g., the S4), and we've heard zero since the teasers in early October. If they won't support it, fine, but let your dedicated user base know so they can pursue alternatives.

Note 3
We’ve also begun the task of bringup on the Galaxy Note 3 – this device is not close to nightly status yet, but we thought some of you may appreciate knowing CM for the device (GSM and CDMA variants) is in process. Please respect the work of the maintainers and not ask for an estimate of availability, it’ll be ready when its ready.

I also think they might release it with CM11 and time it to be released with the full release (I.e. official builds) of CM11, as there wouldn't be much point in startin g on an old version, so close to a new one.

You just have to exercise a little patience. Android 4.4 aka KitKat was just released so the whole CM team have started working on CM11.
Working on CM10.2 right now for the GN3 makes no sense. We all have to wait a bit.

Well some bad news I'm afraid. I believe we will not be seeing CM on the Note 3.
It seems that some people have found it necessary to personally harass the only active developer that was working on the project. The man is rightfully upset about this, as is evident from a comment he left on his G+ page. He does not explicitly state whether he will continue development or not, but it seems evident that it is not a high priority for him anymore.
His remarks about the toxicity of the Android community should be taken seriously. This is precisely what happens as a direct result.
Here's his post:
+Cory Miller and others, I can promise you that none of the devs working on this or any other device for that matter have ever seen a single penny of that money you speak of. You should not comment on things you really don't understand. That money goes towards the servers and bandwidth needed to offer you and everyone else a completely FREE product. Furthermore, donations do not entitle you to a single thing.
I've devoted thousands of volunteer hours towards the +CyanogenMod project because I want to, not because someone is paying me. I wouldn't take it even if it was offered because thats not how I operate. I do it because I believe in open source projects and the community, though my belief in the community is starting to drop off at this point.
Some clarifications. No I am not the maintainer for hlte nor do I want to be after seeing the absolute ****ing childish bull**** the community around this device has put forth, and even if I was, maintainers have NO duty at all to anyone. They are not bound to provide timely updates or anything else, because 100% of the efforts and time and frustration in testing and building come completely out of the free and good will of the person doing it. I picked up this device because the CM team is incredibly busy as of late and people have real world obligations outside of providing you a free product under the constant stream of abuse that the community seems entitled to dish out. The only reason I got involved was to get things moving and because I personally want CM on this phone. I don't owe anyone anything and the fact that its being constantly demanded after numerous polite requests is very telling. I stepped up and did something because I was not happy with the progress, something ANY of you could be doing too. In short, if you want something, do it yourself. I had to learn an incredible amount of stuff to get this thing up and running, but I did it because I want it and no one gave me a handout.
And what do I get for being the only person keeping the torch going for this? A constant stream of private message abuse, G+ flooding my inbox with trite bull**** about how I owe people things and how its long overdue and how it's been months (read it's been two months since this device came out, calm down) etc, etc. This is a brand new SoC on a brand new platform that's barely weeks old with no documentation, it takes TIME. I'm sorry that all the hours of my time and sacrificing my own personal device that I'm devoting towards this for free isn't good enough for everyone and isn't happening fast enough. More so I'm sorry that this topic is now closed because of the actions of a few. This was started as a light hearted and excited post about my own personal accomplishment and something I was happy to share to others waiting for CM for this phone. The Android community has of late been turning more and more toxic and it's something I simply don't want to rush home after working all day to spend additional time on away from my family to cater to an audience that could not care about anything but themselves.

No ROM is going to be absolutely perfect, anything is better than nothing in my book.
No one is obliged to go from 4.2.2 to 4.3, can always wait for 4.4.
Wait and see how it pans out, if there's a major issue it'll be patched no doubt.
and those bugs also are minor ...just graphic glitch so far .. atleast for me .. the leak is near perfect
stop cribbing
wright_ac said:
No ROM is going to be absolutely perfect, anything is better than nothing in my book, people seem to forget the relatively short life span of 4.3 as an OS. Sony have no obligation to release anything to you but they do anyway, lately it seems to be a need to complain about the Devs at Sony delivering what they said they'd do.
No one is obliged to go from 4.2.2 to 4.3, can always wait for 4.4. Software isn't an easy thing to do perfectly anyone who's worked on software will say the same, bugs, exploits, hacks and issues can come from anywhere.

Oh, don't make me laugh... that is why i specified "Obvious bugs" in my post. We all know there are no perfect software, but COME ON, people in the leak thread couldn't believe this firmware to be final because there are obvious and stupid bugs, which are typical in beta versions, but not in fina releases, i was not talking about exploits, hacks or such things, i am talking about where objects overlaps texts, new Sony apps that forcecloses, or obvious things like that, what kind of testing did Sony programmers do?
I have been working on software for more than 12 years, i know what i am talking about, and i would be embarased of myself if i ever release something that makes people think my software cannot be a release version. Also if i put a release date, i try to deliver the best possible, not rush and release a beta just to make people shut up.
And yes, Sony has the obligation to release this, as they compromised themselves and nobody forced them.
Anyway i am not saying this firmware is bad, it is smooth and the bugs are cosmetic or in non mandatory apps, i am just saying it smells like "rushed", and that you are too conformist in a world where being critycal with companies benefits us all.
At the end of the day, up until the day they push it to carriers they'll be patching it and fixing the obvious problems, software bring up as you know is a nightmare, the "leaked" version was a leaked version, it was never intended as a final firmware. Wait and see what come out the leaked 10.4.B.0.569 will not be the same as released 10.4.B.0.569.

Sorry, but that never happened, everytime they fix or add something, they also change the build number. That is the purpose of those numbers, to identify one firmware from another one. And the fact that is has been certified on PTCRB means they are not touching it anymore and are ready to release.

Well, if they finally release 10.4.B.0.569, it will be exactly the same as the leaked one, that is 100% for sure. But it may happen that they have a newer version ready and they might release it instead of .569. That happened sometimes on other Sony smartphones firmware releases.
