[Q] Nexus 4 USB charge issue - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
When I connect my Nexus 4 to USB port at work for charging, it gets mounted as a media device (MTP).
I used HTC Sensation before buying a Nexus 4. In Sensation, I had an option of "charge only". With this option selected, the device was getting charged via USB, but was not mounted. I need a similar option for Nexus 4, since I'm not supposed to plug in a media device on my office PC.
Is there any way to charge my Nexus 4 via USB without mounting as a media device?

original charger and cable?, it shouldnt detect data just power.

Go into storage, click the 3 dots, click usb computer connection and disable MTP

OTG usb modem

I would like to get my nexus 7 to connect to the internet via a cdma usb modem. Using my lg rumor touch and sprint with a data package a usb cable and a otg cable. However when I plug my phone into the nexus 7 the phone doesn't give me the option of what kind of connection it should be. When connected to a computer I get the option. Is there some diver I need on the tablet or could it be an issue due to me using a 3rd party cable to connect the phone.

OTG question

I have 2 otg cables one for my nexus 7 one for my S3 both cables work in both devices and i have a male to male usb cable, question is how can i get them to see each other so i can do direct transfer instead of using a usb drive or computer?? Can it be done??

First, have you tried to transfer content wirelessly between the two devices? That would bypass the need to use cables. You can use app's like ES File Explorer on the Nexus 7 to access other devices on the local network. Not familiar with the S3, but if it can access the wireless network its possible there may be settings to allow one to access the S3 from other wireless devices.
Second, to connect the two devices together via their respective USB-OTG cables you would most likely need to have a male type A to male type A USB adapter. Here is one example. The next problem is going to be how each device see's the other once connected. With some cell phones one has to put them into USB mode so other devices will see and mount the cell phone's storage.
Wireless works fine, just wanted to see if it could be done via cable also ive got the right cables they just dont see each other, unplug it n connect a flash drive and see's it so im guessing its not going to be simple.

On my non smart phone I have to put the phone into USB Mass Storage mode for the PC or my Nexus 7 to view and mount the storage space.
If your using a Samsung Galaxy S3, it may not support mass storage mode. But there is an app called USB Mass Storage APK, creates by a XDA Developed that may work. See this link for more info...

Now that looks like the kind of app i need on my S3 thank you very much.... I best go and root my S3 again lol.

I'm thinking you would only want to use one OTG adapter when doing this. You want one of the devices to be the flash drive for the other. The one that will be controlling the session gets an OTG adapter and you connect the second device using a normal USB-to-MicroUSB cable. From the second device's perspective, it is being attached to a PC.
I use stickmount on my rooted N7 and put my HTC Sensation into USB storage mode. Then the N7 sees the HTC as a mounted folder.
I use a OTG lead in the N7 and a standard A to micro-B lead from that to the HTC.
I haven't used it the other way around, as the N7 doesn't have a Mass Storage mode.

[Q] Safely remove or eject media

I have been using nexus 7 and every time after I finish transferring files from my PC to Nexus, I do not see an option on PC or Nexus to safely disconnect or eject nexus from PC. On nexus I have only two options disconnect USB debugging mode and other is to change to camera PTP mode from media MTP. Is it safe to just to pull the usb cable out after finishing the transfer????
Yes it is safe, simply unplug the USB cable

Click to collapse
Do you get the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the System tray (lower right) on the PC? Do you get that icon for other usb devices like thumbdrives or sdcards? If the icon is there, click it (normal left-click) and choose 'Eject MTP device'. If you get the icon for everything but the N7, you may have a driver problem, but as long as you can transfer files you're probably good. Just make sure the transfers are done before unplugging.

USB connection issue

When I connect my Nexus 4 to my PC using the USB cable its only recognized if I turn USB debugging on. Can I fix this? If USB debugging is off, I can only connect it as a PTP device.

Nexus 7 Charging but no Data connection with PC

I have a 3g 2012 Nexus 7
It is running Timurs USB Rom
It has been working perfectly for a month or so, then suddenly the other night, after leaving it on charge overnight via the mains, it is now not recognised by my pc, but is still charging when connected
I have even installed a new usb port on the tablet
I have used different cables and USB ports on the compter as well
I've looked on google for a few days now, but simply can't find an answer
Thanks
first redflash ur current ROM
if that doesn't solve issue then try pogo pin method for data transfer or use USB otg
