Problem rooting new S4 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've rooted my new S4 (I9505) using Odin 3 and CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505. The root seemed to go OK (see below), but I had problems with Titanium Backup not being able to get root access so I installed an app called Root Check and it tells me that I don't have root access.
If I run SU from terminal emulator it gives me a # prompt however.
I've tried flashing the root file again but got exactly the same results.
Has anyone else had this problem?

no, you can do it with stock recovery
CF wrote in his thread:
NOTE: Sometimes the device does *not* boot into recovery mode and root your device. Just do the entire procedure again if this happens. If it still will not install root and such, make sure that in Odin "Auto Reboot" is not checked. Then after flashing, pull the battery, and boot with VolUp+Home+Power button to boot into recovery manually. This will start the install process.

OK I went into stock recovery and wiped the cache. I then flashed the root file with Odin v3.07 (the previous time I tried Odin v1.85). Root checker still tells me I don't have root access, and typing SU still gives me a # prompt

Sorry I didn't understand the relevant of that link to my problem.
Also my problem seems a little different - the OP in that thread said that the root checkers confirmed that he DID have root - that's not the case here
???

do you have supersu application in the drawer?? if not, install it from play store.
see what i add in my previous post.
i think you will have better answer if you post your issue in CF thread

[Q] 4.4 Update via Odin Fail, Phone Bricked

I tried to install the 4.4.2 N9005XXUENA6_N9005OXXENA5_N9005XXUENA2 update on my Note 3 via odin 3.09.
Got an ext4 update failed error.
After this, the phone's bricked and is stuck on the Kies Recovery Screen. I tried to go into recovery mode in Kies, but it says this model does not have initialization.
I tried installing a 4.3 N9005XXUDMK3_N9005TNLDMK1_N9005XXUDMK2, but again failed. Download mode shows SW REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot] Fused 3 > Binary 2
Can someone please guide me to unbrick my phone?
I don't know what ROM I was on initially. It was the stock ROM that came with the phone.
I dont have CWM and TWRM installed.
This is not a brick at all. Just add a .pit file and restart the upgrade via Odin again.
You should be fine.

Thank you for that advice. How do I add a .pit file, and would you happen to have a link where I can download it from?

I tried a variety of N9005 .pits and each time, it shows PIT FAIL: TOTAL SECTORS (30777344) :crying:
(Read OP) . Try flashing the polish firmware again with odin v1.85 and try using different usb ports. Close most of your running applications such as firefox skype etc that can interrupt the process and flash official firmware.

You won't be able to downgrade back to 4.3 - Use the PDA slot on ODIN and try flashing again.

15 hour sleep man, seems to have me buzzing around lol :highfive:
Solution
I also have Hong Kong N9005 32GB with N9005XXUBMI5 PDA, tried to flash 4.4.2 with Odin and stuck at "invalid ext4 image", was't able to flash anything after it.
But after 16 hours I finally found a solution:
1. Get leaked Polish ROM (that one with 4 files, do not use the official - it has one file rom)
2. Extract archive
3. Extract "CSC_OXX_N9005OXXENA5_327209_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar" and get your pitfile - HLTE_EUR_OPEN.pit
4. Flash your phone with this pitfile and other 4 files from archive (I used Odin 3.09) with repartitioning enabled.
After this procedure I have fully working android 4.4 :victory:

[Q] No OS installed

I have

Last rom.MOAR v2.0
from within TWRP, I wiped internal storage, not knowing it would wipe EVERYTHING, it then said no os installed. I have searched and can only find a stock image on sam mobile, but it downloads at like 15kb/s then fails after a few hours. Does anyone know where i can find the image elsewhere?
I also cannot enter twrp after i reset it, BUT i can get into download mode. So i am a bit stuck now. Odin cannot be used without usb debugging right?

You can push a rom to the phone in recovery if you have the /android-sdk/platform-tools/ installed. In CMD type: adb push namerom.zip /sdcard/. Or sideload a rom in recovery in the sideload option, place the rom in the platform-tools folder and in cmd type: adb sideload namerom.zip. First reflash TWRP with Odin off course.

[Q] How to Root on G900FXXU1BNL7 5.0?

Hello I was trying to root my G900F that is currently running Lollipop BNL7 with CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f and Odin 3.09 after enabling USB debug but Failed at the end of the process. Had to restore stock G900FXXU1BNL7 to get phone back working.
Try it two times always fails at the end.
Any other method or have to wait for updated version of CF-Auto?
Does G900FXXU1BNL7 is rootable?
Is there a way to downgrade to 4.4 safely as I try already and end up in nightmare and dont have EFS backup that is why I want to root first.?

You haven't done anything serious. Don't worry. You can only use SuperSU 2.38 or above versions. No other method works for TouchWiz Lollipop so far.

I think you already enable (Reactivation lock) from setting --> security
Just uncheck the option and i hope it will work fine
Thanks for the advice but did not work.
I have try these way so to first load a custom recovery via odin to root and install SUperSu tested with both Philz and TWRP but failed also on Odin at the end of the process of each of them.
Had to put stock BNL7 again to recover the phone from "firmware upgrade issue" screen
Does BNL7 has some locked bootloader security or so I cant mod anything neither root it now...

Yes some people say that it only works with Fusion TWRP 2.8.2.0. I don't know if it's true because I already flashed it before flashing SuperSU 2.38 beta And of course it worked.

Thanks, sorry to be such a noob but downloaded the Fusion TWRP you post got the zip... but how to install if unzipped there is no odin Tar or such flashable file...neither like and apk, sorry lost in here?
Lastly to let you know that now I'm in Stock G900FXXU1ANCE, dowgraded from BLN7 to BLN2, then ANJ1 and then ANCE. On all of them I have been trying to root or put a custom recovery, used CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f, openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-klte or philz_touch_6.57.8-klte with same results always Failing Odin at the end of process... The thing I notice is that always it shown on the dowload mode screen

Will keep playing trying to get a working custom recovery so to flash customs roms later...But looks like I will have to wait for updates now...

This is the story that I heard and followed, after which I got root on bln2:
You can only get root on Samsung Lollipop with SuperSU v2.38 and above, but the only 100% sure way to flash SuperSU v2.38+ is by flashing it in Fusion TWRP 2.8.2.0.
So you do it like this:
1 Flash rom in odin
2 Flash custom recovery in Odin (CWM/TWRP doesn't matter)
3 Now boot custom recovery and flash the Fusion TWRP 2.8.2.0 zip file
4 Reboot recovery
5 Flash SuperSU v2.38+ zip
6 Enjoy root

cant root G900FXXU1BOB7 help please

i dont know whats going on but i cant root G900FXXU1BOB7 also cant install twrp or cwm any ideas anyone
Yeah, I lost root after flashing the standard BOB7 firmware.
Had to re-root my phone using these instructions.
Are you flashing with Odin?
If so, how are you getting into download mode (DO NOT USE THE 4-WAY REBOOT OPTION). You must turn off your phone (and some people recommend removing the battery, but I have never had to do that). Then turn the phone on, by pushing 'home', 'volume down' and power.
Flash the 'CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.tar.md5' (or whichever is the appropriate version for your phone. I am using the SM-G900F, which is kltexx but yours might be a different model) using 'AP' (if odin 3.09) or 'PDA'.
Edit: Meant to add, download the latest auto-root package from chainfire's link above (it has a compatible version of SuperSU that works with android 5.0). If you are using an old version, it may not work with android 5. The latest version is 2.45, but I think 2.43 and up should work.

Are you using the G900FXXU1BOB7 firmware?
You have to flash the latest TWRP via Odin. Afterwards install the latest superSU through TWRP.

My problem was I couldn't "Wipe / Advanced Wipe" with TWRP it gave me a bunch of errors, so I tried "Format Data" and that worked. Executed Wipe after, reinstalled G900FXXU1BOB7 , latest TWRP (2.8.5.0), followed by Root
I can't root or install TWRP in g900fxxu1bob7 firm also
Odin always gives me that error :crying:

Please help me i tried rooting and now my phone won't work

I tried rooting my phone using Odin from this tutorial:
https:// theunlockr(dot)com/2016/02/04/root-samsung-galaxy-s6-edge-plus/
It failed and now my phone reads "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing" and will not enter recovery mode.
I tried installing the proper firmware but when I try using that it fails and my phone then reads "SW REV CHECK FAIL DEVICE 3 BINARY 2"
This is what Odin says:
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Binary Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..

Also, the firmware I used is G928TUVU2COI5_G928TTMB2COI5_TMB and my model is SM-G928T
Can you still get into download mode? I'm thinking you rooted with the wrong version. Are you on 5.1.1 or 6.0.1?

Okay so I tried it but since my phone doesn't turn on I cant put in the files from that link, I tried using oden and it failed again. On Odin it says Pass but my phone continues to say Kernel is Not seandroid enforcing, I've been at this for so long and I can't find a fix :'(
Where did you get your stock firmware from to flash with odin?
Is it a 3 file flash or a single large file which you place in the AP slot?
I find the 3 file ones are better as it contains the firmware, bootloader and correct files all for the same version/model.
Try sammobile, the download is slow if you don't have premium access to the download site.
You can also try the program kies or whatever the recovery program is these days, I remember with my note having exhausted all possibilities using it and it actually worked. It's slow but might bring your phone back to life.
Looks like the recovery program lies is now called smart switch...

It's a three file flash I believe, I've just been putting one huge file in the AP, I haven't heard of the three file thing, I've tried the Sammobile firmware stock too and it hasn't worked. It fails on Odin. Do you know anything else I could try?
You could try grabbing TWRP recovery and flashing that with odin. That could give you access to a recovery to wipe and factory wipe. You could grab a custom rom and use TWRP to install that.
If you could find the 3 file flash it might help because it will have the right bootloader/firmware/csc for your phone.
Just a quick thought... Have you tried running odin with administration rights in Windows? And is it the latest version of odin?

Sorry this is really late, apparently nothing worked, I took it to the uBreakiFix and they apparently had to install the firmware by it's build number which took like a week cause I had to go through every single build number. But thank you very much for your help
