Sleep for 24 hrs used 6% battery, normal ?? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

since heard someone said standby for 10 hours used 1%, so 24 hrs used 6% is abnormal ??
remarks: no wifi / no auto sync / airplane mode
how to fix it ?

ok....why do you need a fix if the battery drain is that good?

+1 with ace.
That's fine. Nothing to worry about it being too fast. And if it's too slow why would you fret?
For future reference, if it's too fast it's likely a background app doing things (e.g., syncing / downloading or uploading data = keeping wifi on = draining more battery, reading or writing memory etc.). Over a long period of time (a few years?) it could just be the battery beginning to show signs of old age. Things like this.
But at the moment, no need to go overboard and think you need an RMA or start diagnostic tests which will likely do more harm than good.

as previous said, that doesn't sound bad. It means it would sleep for... something like 12 days, to kill it. If you're letting it sleep that long, then what's the point in having it?

Abnormal? Google advertises 300 hours of standby time = 8% per 24 hours.

How is this a problem? Hell, I'm lucky to get 24 hours all together without having to charge. You must not use your device much or at all if you are trying to fix something that isn't broken.

24 sleeping. He also had airplane mode turned on. So he wasn't using the phone at all (No screen time), and no wireless signals whatsoever.
That's why it's so good, but normal for that kind of usage.

Yes, it's normal. And besides, if you're not using the screen at all and have all wireless services turned off; why don't you just turn it off and lose 0% battery?

haha, i just concern it normal or not, since somebody said drain 1% per day with same situation.
If it's normal, everything is ok.

Its not bad, but if you really want good battery... Turn off push notifications, background sync for stuff like currents and Facebook, and set WiFi > advanced > "Keep WiFi on during sleep" to "only when plugged in". I also have most user apps greenified. This is on the stock 4.2.2 ROM and kernel.
For me a tablet is a secondary device and doesn't need to be constantly updating when I'm at work or out, that's what my phone is for. This is for couch web browsing, reading, and watching movies on airplanes.
15 hours unplugged and still fully charged. I generally get 9~10 hours of screen time as well.
And, since words without proof are worthless...

OMG, I have seen some silly battery usage topics in my time but this seriously has to take 1st prize!! :silly:
What on earth is the point of turning all the radio signals off and leaving it on sleep for 24 hours and then worry about 6%??? You may aswell just turn the device off.
Seriously dude, I am amazed.

How did you manage that? I had the phone in standby mode overnight for 9 hours and was down to 77%? This was after a factory reset with no appls installed, brightness all the way down, no data/sync on, no animations, etc.?
Idk I just notice my battery icon still looks full when usual at this time its halfway to aquarter way down idk mauve phone is now in a normal cycle I know I installed touteur yesterday since that was raping my battery and use the official twitter now and been using this app using the engadget app and little web browsing

Uhh your battery will "look 80 percent full" until it hits 69 percent (I think).
Go into settings > About Phone > Status to see what your real battery lvl is.
That's how I got 80% it looked full but said 80%
Now says 74% still best battery day I've had

Mines weird. It charges on standby. Lol tested twice. One day went to sleep for four hours on a 78% charge, woke up it was at 79%. This morning I slept 3 hours it left it on 28% woke up with 29%.... lmaoooo
My day today was similar but not quite as good.
7 and a half hours off the charger and 75% battery remaining. This is with texting moderate web browsing, facebook a market download and heavy GPS usage while trying to tweak setting to get a more reliable fix for the GPS issues.

Does anyone know if switching from 3G/E and vice versa consumes more power? In other words if you constantly switch from 3G to Edge or GPRS does this cause your phone to consume more power than if you were in same 3G cell entire time?

How is your display so slow at under 40%? My usage is always around the 60-75% of battery usage for the display. This is with a live wall paper or regular wall paper. Any settings you want to share with us?

I get 3G most of the time as well, but in many places where i used to get 3G on G1, i only get E now on Vibrant.
Many years ago I read that radios power consumption spikes up significantly when its doing a call "handshake" or switching from one cell tower to another on voice calls. It would be reasonable to assume that because Vibrant radio is weaker, it leads to more power being consumed due to more frequent cell and data protocol type switching.

I think the display percentage is low because the GPS usage I had took a decent chunk of the battery.
No special settings to speak of. I use ADW launcher usually have brightness down all the way unless I am using the phone outdoors (which is not very often) I have a regular background.
The only thing I can say that I changed recently that might be helping my battery life is that I changed my ATK settings to put the security level at medium while already ste to Crazy and to kill on screen off.

So you are using ATK. I had it on my phone earlier this week and in standby mode I was only using like 6% in 10 hours. Last night I did a factory reset (phone was lagging) and did not have ATK installed (had default wallpaper, brightness down all the way, no animations) and in 9 hours I dropped to 77% just in standby mode.
So I installed ATK again today and see how it goes. I haven't installed my apps again and using standard touchwiz (had launcherpro installed before the factory reset). Previously I had ATK set on Crazy and kill on screen off as well. I think I had security on High though.

My display is eating my battery! Help?

Well it seems I may have a problem here as my battery is being destroyed by my display. The usage on the pic is nothing compared to some crazy results I've seen. Heck I've seen 94% of my battery being used by my display. Is there a way to fix this?

If you search the threads (hint: use search), you'll see why it's a good thing.
To paraphrase and give you the TL;DR version:
Better the display taking up the battery than the 3G radio...

On any phone, the display is going to be the biggest source of power drain no matter what. This is why when a new display technology emerges, the developer always talks about the power saving ability of said technology.
Also, you need to understand that it is not 62% used, it is 62% of what IS USED. So if you used 30% of battery power then .30 * .62 = 18% of overall battery life is used to power the screen. It makes sense because no matter what you do, most likely your screen is going to be on, especially if you are reading xda.

OK. Thanks its just freaking me out. Sometimes ill leave the screen off and ill check battery usage and its like in the 90's so I'm like wtf I haven't used my phone. And I just got on xda too see if I can get a fix for this.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I just tried to find the thread but couldn't (thought I had it "subscribed to").
So essentially, the fact that you've got a 4" screen as the primary drain on the battery shouldn't be that surprising. It actually speaks to the efficiency of the device. In other phones, either the phone idle state or the cell standby state would be the biggest suckers of battery life, which is a bad thing as it's polling the towers too often which drains battery quicker.
There are a few tips in the forums to save battery life like auto-dim, use wifi instead of 3G (not sure if this one), use a black background, etc... But I do think that PaiPiePia did a great job at explaining it =)
As posted above it's not as bad as it looks but you can do something. Run jac's uv/oc w/color fix. It allows you to drop your brightness even lower. This works well for me as most of my use is indoors. Plus the kernel being under volted obviously helps.
Exactly if you have things that are using more power than your screen then you have problems.
as others have said, it's indeed percentage of USED battery. And display should always be using the most - unless you hardly ever use your phone.

Nope, that would do it. 2-3 hours would eat up close to 50% of your battery. I make maybe 20 minutes of calls a day at most, so display takes up anywhere from 50% to 75% of total drain.

Yeah it is great. I generally lose 0-1% on 8 hours of standby with WiFi on.

It's awesome although I never very high tablet idle because I have a bunch of crap running in the background - GMail, 3 IMAP accounts every 10 mins, Twitter every 15 mins, Facebook every 30 mins, etc etc.
I still get about 8 hours of standby on 10% of battery with WiFi. When I'm on 3G though it drains a lot quicker.

One thing that caught my eye which seems to not be a problem as it was on my htc incredible is that something (app related) is keeping my xoom awake. For example the xoom batter says its been on for 4 hours and the awake time (under system status) says 4 hours. I couldnt figue out which app was causing this so I did a test to see if this awake time was actually draining battery as it was on my incredible.
In short I charged my battery to 100% before going to bed and restarted xoom to start from 0hours awake and 0hours battery use. Checked it 8 or 9 hours later and saw that my awake time was exactly that of battery use time however my battery read 100% with that much time being awake (by app).
Thus the awake time although drained my incredible does not impact my xoom enough to really care about. Hopefully this may help if anyone else is OCD about awake versus sleep times.

Yeah I read that as well. I dont have weatherbug though! I dunno what it is, I tried deleting apps and testing and couldnt find the culprit. Seems to not impact the battery whatsoever as I tested it overnight with 100% battery charge and woke up with 100% battery despite being awake all night.
The only thing that stays awake in my running services it seems is my android keyboard so it may be related to that or an app keeping my keyboard awake. All other processes are consistant with the screen on time.

Hey keung, did you get any better battery life? I'm experiencing the same issue when wifi is on. At night, if I turn it off, I can get about 1% 1,5% loss per hour, but when wifi is on it's about -1% per 15/30 minutes without any active usage.
I'm thinking it might have to do with the router... But I don't know what else to tweak on the router settings.
Guys this might be able to help, scroll down to the end of post 2 where it says "dirty guide for battery drain"

Thanks NoOne, but already tried most of the points there... and in any other thread about battery life. Not too much luck so far...
you defo have wakelocks mate
iam the same as everyone else about 1% every 8 -10 hours in deep sleep mode sometimes more
i do the following
#use titanium to freeze unwanted apps
#use auto starts to stop tasks starting at boot and other times
#use leo/checkrom v4 with siyah kernel
#use set cpu and set it to smartass v2
#use set cpu to make some profiles like screen off etc
#use set cpu to undervolt by about 50mv each cpu step
#turn off data when notusing it
#make sure apps like facebook only sync when i want them too
#make sure i go offline from facebook chat as it stays awake
#i dont use any widgets
#i use go launcher as my launcher
#pretty turn off all auto syncs like gmail and contacts etc i sync when i want to
of course you may not wan that sort of set up and you may wish to have data on all the time syncing all the time if so then expect more battery drain

Definately not normal. As people have said... hes wakelocked lol
looks like an iphone but powered by android baby!!!!
This is the solution
All,
I have tried a ton of modem/firmware combinations and I conclue that this has the greatest effect on batter life.
1 - I was on KK5 with KL1 modem then the KI3 modem then the KI4 modem and finally the KH3. Every KK5 and modem gave me terrible battery life. Not even making from 6 am to 7 pm! This is over several dyas of testing
2 - After experimenting with numerous combinations this the my current setup and I am getting a full days use 6 am to 10 pm and still have 40-50% left!
Now have been running this for a week and its verified. My data speeds are awesome (5-8 mb) and connections are rock solid. Here is the setup:
PDA - I9100XWKK2
PHONE: I9100XXKH3 (modem)
CSC: I9100XENJ1
get it here: http://www.multiupload.com/PBBE9HBXTS
modem file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253665&page=7 (post # 68)
Thry this setup you will be very happy. If it helps a thanks would be appreciated.

Report Battery Drain problem/fix here - XXBLFB

My idling battery drain is finally gone. Standby for 2 hours and dropped by 1% .
Finally. What about every one else?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Not on LFB but my idle standby has been 2% over 12 hours from day one .
jje
I weirdly lost only 4% over 12 hours idle, with Wifi on, which usually never happens. It seems much better but I will wait to check if it's not a placebo before I declare certainty.
Firstly anyone experiencing battery drain needs to check what kernel they are using some kernels are better than others for battery life.
1% in 2 hours? How, without sim? Come ooonnn

Where is the link to that fix I can't find it

Yeah is this only for rooted phones? My idle battery drain seems off

No battery drain here, too.
Only lost 1% in 5 hours (with wifi and sync on!).
(Stock odexed LFB with CF-ROOT).
Where is the fix?

On stock kernel, it's safe to say I don't need a custom rom or anything. I upgraded from the original sgs and this phone is so fast that imo there is no real reason to ever need to try a custom rom, unless a working jelly bean comes out. Also, battery life here is much better, probably because of the huge battery and cortex a9 power saving improvements. But lfb has shown a small increase in life I think.

Custom kernels mostly improve the phone for ex. If you want soundquality improvement its worth it to install siyah kernel

There is no such thing called "Battery Drain" in XXBLFB,mine drains 1% in 10 hours.

In airplane mode? Can you post screen shot to prove this? How much is the cell standby percentage?
The battery drain on idle has been improved, for me, from 2% per hour to 1% per 4 hours with wifi and data on. However, when playing the device with screen on the battery drains faster than the previous rom.

AIRPLANE MODE are you crazy???
One of the most frugal Droid ever(Mind you that cell usage is exaggerated due to wrong values in FW)

See with your eyes open,I left my phone at 83% last night.
Even if you compute daily % use mine only uses 10%.
I think that the opening comment wasn't worded correctly, it should have read something like LFB fixes standby battery drain.... Which incidentally I had never noticed before.

That's pretty normal I think considering minimal screen time, data is off, wifi is off and as a result no background syncing.

Yep, nothing impressive about that screenshot indeed.
Might as well turn off the phone

No data, no wifi it's no surprise that it drains so little. Most members here including me gets about 1%-1.5% an hour drain with hspa on. My old HTC gets about 0.2% /hr with hspa on.

Keep the bull**** comments for somewhere else, previous to LFB the same conditions would have drained roughly double to triple and that's what the thread is about.

2% in ~8 hours, seems that they indeed fixed it, it's lower now than the S2 idle, which how it obviously should have been.
Also take into account the fix is either in the modem or in the ROM; I'm still using my own kernel based on old sources.
