Report Battery Drain problem/fix here - XXBLFB - Galaxy S III General

My idling battery drain is finally gone. Standby for 2 hours and dropped by 1% .
Finally. What about every one else?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Not on LFB but my idle standby has been 2% over 12 hours from day one .
jje

I weirdly lost only 4% over 12 hours idle, with Wifi on, which usually never happens. It seems much better but I will wait to check if it's not a placebo before I declare certainty.

Firstly anyone experiencing battery drain needs to check what kernel they are using some kernels are better than others for battery life.

1% in 2 hours? How, without sim? Come ooonnn

Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

No battery drain here, too.
Only lost 1% in 5 hours (with wifi and sync on!).
(Stock odexed LFB with CF-ROOT).

Where is the fix?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium HD app

On stock kernel, it's safe to say I don't need a custom rom or anything. I upgraded from the original sgs and this phone is so fast that imo there is no real reason to ever need to try a custom rom, unless a working jelly bean comes out. Also, battery life here is much better, probably because of the huge battery and cortex a9 power saving improvements. But lfb has shown a small increase in life I think.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

Custom kernels mostly improve the phone for ex. If you want soundquality improvement its worth it to install siyah kernel

There is no such thing called "Battery Drain" in XXBLFB,mine drains 1% in 10 hours.

In airplane mode? Can you post screen shot to prove this? How much is the cell standby percentage?

The battery drain on idle has been improved, for me, from 2% per hour to 1% per 4 hours with wifi and data on. However, when playing the device with screen on the battery drains faster than the previous rom.

See with your eyes open,I left my phone at 83% last night.
Even if you compute daily % use mine only uses 10%.

I think that the opening comment wasn't worded correctly, it should have read something like LFB fixes standby battery drain.... Which incidentally I had never noticed before.

That's pretty normal I think considering minimal screen time, data is off, wifi is off and as a result no background syncing.

No data, no wifi it's no surprise that it drains so little. Most members here including me gets about 1%-1.5% an hour drain with hspa on. My old HTC gets about 0.2% /hr with hspa on.

Keep the bull**** comments for somewhere else, previous to LFB the same conditions would have drained roughly double to triple and that's what the thread is about.

2% in ~8 hours, seems that they indeed fixed it, it's lower now than the S2 idle, which how it obviously should have been.
Also take into account the fix is either in the modem or in the ROM; I'm still using my own kernel based on old sources.

Suppose this explains the delay and EF10.

that sucks ... everything is great about the ROM except for battery life (and I guess some of the other crap they still haven't fixed like the physical keyboard lag, grr). It's faster for me than most of the deodexed ROMs I've tried that took out all the Samsprint "bloat".
Wow... I his noticed that my rom somehow fixed the system apps bug...

Odd, I left GPS and wifi on took a nap, five hours later and I'm still at 100%. Of course GPS is not working for me, so now I have to go through that whole rigamorale of getting it to work. Oh yeah I'm on the EF10 modem.
Huh, I had the phone running for 5 hours in a real poor signal area after I flashed EF02 and at the end of the night I was still at 70%. Today I'm going through the usual battery calibration stuff so I won't know for sure for another day or two, but initially it seems pretty good on my phone, (using EF02 modem).
Hm that's weird with 2 hours of usage screen on for a little more than an hour, wifi on the whole time and I still have 79%

My EE03 was killer until I started messing with themes and then it went to ****. EF has been ok so far.
One other thing I noticed is that when you have your phone plugged into the computer and not the wall it doesn't see it as being plugged in even though it's charging. At the moment I have it plugged into my laptop so it's obviously charging but my screen shows it being on battery for 38 min 52 sec
that doesnt display if you put on charge thats highly unlikely to get 7 hours and still @ 100%

Or an uncalibrated battery meter. The first battery cycle after a flash can give you some wonky stats, I usually run a calibration and at least one more full charge/discharge before I can pass judgement on battery life.
I seem to be getting IMPOSSIBLY good battery life on this. I've had it off charger for 3 hours + and have been using it like crazy installing apps and configuring. I'm still at 75%.
I fully charged and ran battery calibration when I got up. Who knows, maybe it'll drop 50% in the next hour, but for now, this is stunning!
PS I'm also getting like 15% phone idle, so I don't know if that's accurate.
My battery life is pretty bad too

Not Charging means, that you have a defect in your USB Port.

I had this problem a very long time ago, it sorted it self out. But I use launcher pro and no widgets, have a live wallpaper and magiclocker. I don't use battery savers and my phone can last for two days with calls, sms, and browsing. Also wifi and gps are always on.
Just give it some time, I think the phone needs to calibrate, also in have auto brightness off and set to around 25 %.

it has sleep mode? 250 mhz.all tasks killed. that is good battery 1230 mAh.
just saying, dont hate.

Hey keung, did you get any better battery life? I'm experiencing the same issue when wifi is on. At night, if I turn it off, I can get about 1% 1,5% loss per hour, but when wifi is on it's about -1% per 15/30 minutes without any active usage.
I'm thinking it might have to do with the router... But I don't know what else to tweak on the router settings.
Guys this might be able to help, scroll down to the end of post 2 where it says "dirty guide for battery drain"

you defo have wakelocks mate
iam the same as everyone else about 1% every 8 -10 hours in deep sleep mode sometimes more
i do the following
#use titanium to freeze unwanted apps
#use auto starts to stop tasks starting at boot and other times
#use leo/checkrom v4 with siyah kernel
#use set cpu and set it to smartass v2
#use set cpu to make some profiles like screen off etc
#use set cpu to undervolt by about 50mv each cpu step
#turn off data when notusing it
#make sure apps like facebook only sync when i want them too
#make sure i go offline from facebook chat as it stays awake
#i dont use any widgets
#i use go launcher as my launcher
#pretty turn off all auto syncs like gmail and contacts etc i sync when i want to
of course you may not wan that sort of set up and you may wish to have data on all the time syncing all the time if so then expect more battery drain

looks like an iphone but powered by android baby!!!!
This is the solution
All,
I have tried a ton of modem/firmware combinations and I conclue that this has the greatest effect on batter life.
1 - I was on KK5 with KL1 modem then the KI3 modem then the KI4 modem and finally the KH3. Every KK5 and modem gave me terrible battery life. Not even making from 6 am to 7 pm! This is over several dyas of testing
2 - After experimenting with numerous combinations this the my current setup and I am getting a full days use 6 am to 10 pm and still have 40-50% left!
Now have been running this for a week and its verified. My data speeds are awesome (5-8 mb) and connections are rock solid. Here is the setup:
PDA - I9100XWKK2
PHONE: I9100XXKH3 (modem)
CSC: I9100XENJ1
get it here: http://www.multiupload.com/PBBE9HBXTS

Thry this setup you will be very happy. If it helps a thanks would be appreciated.

My impressions about GS3 battery

I have bought GS3 2 days ago from Dubai the GS3 is amazing, this phone is the smoothest android phone I have ever used.
The only problem I have noticed with the battery it never reaches 100% it only reaches 99% when trying to get a full charge
So far I get with this battery nearly 8 hours and 30 mins to 9 hours with heavy usage, my phone is still unrooted so I didn't have a chance to try any juice defending apps.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I dont think anything is wrong with that....mw galaxy s doesnt reach 100% eighter...i think it has something to do with android protecting battery from overcharging
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
That isn't too impressive. However, you can expect the battery life to improve quite a lot after about 4-5 full charge cycles. Thanks for posting your experience
When I was on stock roms with gs1 I had the same problem with 99% but cm7 and cm9 goes to 100%

guys dont forget,if you need better battery life your first charge cycle should be a complete one without any interruption.
for a full charge cycle do i have to discharge the battery to 0% or just 1-5%

should that be with the phone off as well? i have read that as well.
thanks for sharing. 8.30 hours of heavy use is respectable(if you can define heavy use it will be better though), but i had managed to get that with HOS on heavy use, even less so im confident it should be fine!
So confident i have already pre ordered a second battery as well! haha
I have been using the phone heavily since the past 12 hours which includes constant connection to 3g or wifi networks, app downloads, navigation for about half an hour, half hour of calls, 20+ texts, about an hour of streaming YouTube to my tv using twonky and I'm still at 35%.
And since the device is new so all my friends and colleagues have been checking out its sound, video and camera.
I haven't even been through my first full cycle yet and the results for me are pretty satisfactory so far.
Also it was connected to the car Bluetooth for about 45 mins and I had 15 mins of calls during that time.

Urban legend...
"It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery's life (this does not apply to Li-Ion batteries, which do not require conditioning). To discharge, simply run your device under the battery's power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in your user's manual."

Guys, the screen on time is the one we really need to see. It's the screen that really impacts the battery life on an amoled phones. Please try to include those in your screen shots.
Take this screen shot I just took from my GN for example. May look like great battery life but what you don't see is that the screen has only been on for 35 mins, so it's nothing at all special.

What's the longest screen-on time you've ever had?

Sometimes the problem with a big screen is that it can use up a lot of juice.
Even before I bought my Note I had heard of the rumours about really bad battery drainage that came with ics.
Well today, a Sunday (in Australia at least), rather than studying hard for my Maths test tomorrow I was on my phablet, watching youtube (a friend showed me this really awesome channel recently) videos, surfing the web and xda, whatever; pretty much the phone was hardly on idle/standby at all.
Except for when I had lunch in the middle.
Anyway, it was the best battery life I have ever had.
Here are some screenshots:

In fact the battery life was so incredibly good, I thought I was using one of my two Anker 2700mAh batteries and it wasn't until I took off the battery cover to change the battery did I realise that I was actually using a stock Samsung 2500mAh battery.
Typically, when I'm at school and the phone is just idle in my pocket all day, I get around 3 hours screen on time with the stock battery, and 4 hours with the Anker batteries.
So this 5 and a half hours with little idle time is absolutely mind blowing for me (hence why i felt the need to post about it on xda).
Without needing to charge it, what is the longest screen-on time you've had with your 5.3 inch beast?
4.5~5 hours, stock gb, with some crap freezed (unasomething, samsung push, and some other) and k2-12 speedmod kernel on lb1(regional/device dependant) modem. Just browsing and tapatalk on dark theme.

about 5.

rom was xme latest gb, but had simmilar results on latest dbt,and open europe latest gb rom
edit I posted not for discussion, but for means to replicate, should someone want to
ps, result only thought ultra clean install with fresh install of everything, no restore of backups and such
ps2 learned hardway, make efs backup and safe across multiple locations so you have way back, as flashing different csc roms can damage efs easily and before you know it no service. Hacking your way back is costly, so backup efs and dont make same mistake as me.

5h10min of screen on time, using Rocket Rom with speedmod kernel, 40% brightness, power saving mode, no games, black/white/grey icons and wallpaper :good:
5 hrs continual use is pretty amazing! I didn't timed mine but I would guess mine is 4-4.5 hrs of continual use.

as for wifi/browsing - with (estimated) battery current of ca. 500mA, I wouldn't count on more than 5 hours

I don't think so.
Well I've never gotten anything.
On stock ics 4.0.4 using a stock battery, min brightness, mobile network 3g
currently 4hrs 14 mins with 48% battery left
total time on battery is 7hrs 55mins 47 secs
10 hrs while reading e-book on aldiko
with grey text on black background
7% juice left
3g and phone on
Flight from Atlanta to Orange county Ca. 3.7 hours. Plenty left. I never use the device screen on for hours on end unless couped up in a plane.

Increase your battery life upto 500% (All android phones)

Required apps :-
1)https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.latedroid.juicedefender&hl=en {this is the free version i use juice defender ultimate "paid"}
2)any overclocking app (setcpu,android overclock,etc) {I use Use Rom Tool Boox Pro}
1)After getting the Juice defender set it up for once
2)i even under clocked my cpu to 300Mhz(do it every night no great diffeence[★root required for underclocking:fingers-crossed:]
Undercloking is not very important juice defender itself is very effective

Yeah, some kid in living in his parents' basement really found a better battery management system than Google. Bah!! All these apps do is waste more battery life than they save.

A 500% increase in battery life eh, does that mean I can get 25 hours of screen on time with juice defender?

its "upto" 500% and with screen on 15 hrs maybe
with screen off i just drained 9% in 9:45 hrs
1% per hour is a normal drain, I don't think juice defender makes some difference.Overnight my battery usually lose 3-4% in 8-9 hours

You have obviously got an app or process keeping your phone awake. Get better battery stats to find out what the problem is. 35% battery drain over night is not normal neither is 9%, there really is no need for juice defender.
I personally don't believe in such apps. I am running JB stock. My battery lasted for 37hours with internet on and medium usage. I dont really think we would need any battery saving apps specially for S3, which itself uses the battery efficiently.

As posted you have apps draining the battery JD probably turns them off for you .
You and your results don't count you are only one user who has not tested JD in a logical manner .You have certainly done no research nor searched this topic on XDA .

My s3 drains 2-3% overnight

Hi,
To the OP, sorry but you're happy with this result???
Something is wrong with your battery drain (or at least not so good like you seem think it), like the others during the night (about 8 hours) I lost 2 or 3 %... it depends of different settings like sync, network, etc... In general the battery drain during the night is about this, but here your battery drain is not really good...
Forgot these kinds of apps, they consume more than they help or at best do nothing...
And please change the title of your thread... it's ridiculous!
Plus your post... it's a bit missing.
Maybe you can do some research about the different battery threads here and in the Q&A section....
