What's the longest screen-on time you've ever had? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Sometimes the problem with a big screen is that it can use up a lot of juice.
Even before I bought my Note I had heard of the rumours about really bad battery drainage that came with ics.
Well today, a Sunday (in Australia at least), rather than studying hard for my Maths test tomorrow I was on my phablet, watching youtube (a friend showed me this really awesome channel recently) videos, surfing the web and xda, whatever; pretty much the phone was hardly on idle/standby at all.
Except for when I had lunch in the middle.
Anyway, it was the best battery life I have ever had.
Here are some screenshots:

In fact the battery life was so incredibly good, I thought I was using one of my two Anker 2700mAh batteries and it wasn't until I took off the battery cover to change the battery did I realise that I was actually using a stock Samsung 2500mAh battery.
Typically, when I'm at school and the phone is just idle in my pocket all day, I get around 3 hours screen on time with the stock battery, and 4 hours with the Anker batteries.
So this 5 and a half hours with little idle time is absolutely mind blowing for me (hence why i felt the need to post about it on xda).
Without needing to charge it, what is the longest screen-on time you've had with your 5.3 inch beast?

4.5~5 hours, stock gb, with some crap freezed (unasomething, samsung push, and some other) and k2-12 speedmod kernel on lb1(regional/device dependant) modem. Just browsing and tapatalk on dark theme.
But, this should be in q&a section

I'm running imilka's incredible PA v0.5 rom using the latest cm9 stable kernel.

about 5.
ics with cf-root.

rom was xme latest gb, but had simmilar results on latest dbt,and open europe latest gb rom
edit I posted not for discussion, but for means to replicate, should someone want to
ps, result only thought ultra clean install with fresh install of everything, no restore of backups and such
ps2 learned hardway, make efs backup and safe across multiple locations so you have way back, as flashing different csc roms can damage efs easily and before you know it no service. Hacking your way back is costly, so backup efs and dont make same mistake as me.

5h10min of screen on time, using Rocket Rom with speedmod kernel, 40% brightness, power saving mode, no games, black/white/grey icons and wallpaper :good:

5 hrs continual use is pretty amazing! I didn't timed mine but I would guess mine is 4-4.5 hrs of continual use.

with CM9
and play Game ,about 2.5 h
without game and wifi about 5.5 to 6 h

7:40 was on regular stock battery,
as for wifi/browsing - with (estimated) battery current of ca. 500mA, I wouldn't count on more than 5 hours

if mobile data is off ( 2g and 3g both ) and i use minimum brightness in 2g nw i get more than 5hrs of display on. but these days my phone is not going to deep sleep. need to fix this . using paranoiddroid

I don't think so.
Well I've never gotten anything.

On stock ics 4.0.4 using a stock battery, min brightness, mobile network 3g
currently 4hrs 14 mins with 48% battery left
total time on battery is 7hrs 55mins 47 secs

10 hrs while reading e-book on aldiko
with grey text on black background
7% juice left
3g and phone on

Flight from Atlanta to Orange county Ca. 3.7 hours. Plenty left. I never use the device screen on for hours on end unless couped up in a plane.

I'm Getting Great Battery Life!

I installed OMGB-6 when it was released. Then flashed invisiblek #21 kernel and the new market. Since I last charged it, I've talked on it for about an hour, used the web-browser (Skyfire) fairly moderately, sent a few emails (Gmail), and spent a total of about an hour of GPS through the application WAZE. I'm left at 22% battery left after about 22 hours of use.
I've been fairly lazy with regards to changing the screen brightness, so it's been on about 50% brightness. I've left sync and gps on during the whole time.
I've been using Watchdog as a smart task manager. I have SetCPU installed, but I haven't used it at all.

Can't hurt, just nandroid first, or have a spare kernel handy.

I chewed through my battery in about 10 hrs today with the same kernel.
Guess I use mine a lot more. I've also got 26 hrs out if it when I barely use it.
Don't think you get great battery life when you don't use it much.
I'm in CM 6.1 but that wont really matter.
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy Tab
True, I haven't been using it all that much. But compared to other ROM's I've used, this get much better battery. Everything else I've tried out got me a max of ~12 hours even on idle the whole time.
Definitely try to install the kernel. Can't hurt! Just make sure you always have a nandroid backup available.

50% Brightness?!?!?! Wow....battery life is not worth looking at a dull screen. 100% all the way for me...im using 1800mah from ChiChitech that I got for $20. Seems to help enough.
I'm also running a Gingerbread ROM (Evervolv a17) but can't tell what difference it's making on battery.

Hydra 1.13 overclock kernel, stock ROM, stock battery, auto-brightness. I'm currently at 20% battery after 2.5 days. Light usage over the weekend, but there is an hour and a half of talk time in there and a half hour of reading.
The trick to DI battery life is keeping the data network usage/standby under control. If you're trying to send/receive data with no signal, the phone will burn through its battery in 4 hours and I've used 20% in 15 minutes trying to book a flight on a low signal connection.
Realizing this took me a few months since I live in NYC and as such, go through a lot of signal shadows. Some days my phone would be at 50% battery after 12 hours, other times it'd be dead after 6. I now realize that the short days were caused by sync services trying to run when I was in a shadow. You can diagnose this for yourself by going to the cell standby section of the battery usage. If you're over 10% or so without a signal, you have this problem.
You can handle this manually by holding down the power (on the stock rom) and enabling/disabling mobile network. This is a pain in the ass.
I handle this with some simple Locale rules along with the Mobile Signal and Mobile Data plugins. The first is to shut off the data when there's no signal. The second is to shut off the data at work where I'm usually but not always on a wireless network. The third is to shut down the data during my normal sleep hours and airplane mode if I'm at home.
These easily got me to 36 hours so I grabbed an undervolt kernel, which gets me to 2 days of regular use. Daily I do about 15m of talk, 40m reading news/email on the subway, and another 30 mins browsing/messaging/misc. My monthly data use is ~350MB.
While it is likely true that the OP and others have good battery life under their specific use conditions, battery life in general on smart phones is mediocre to poor at best. I have friends with various different models of smartphone (including iphone) and across the board battery life is not good. The exception is blackberry, but I don't consider those competitive from a tech and feature standpoint. Obviously different people are going to have different opinions and experiences based on the various factors that influence battery longevity.
The solution is to stop worrying about it, get a spare or two or three and pop in a new battery when one dies. This imo is one of the best things about the Dinc and Android phones in general. Just my 2c.

This is from a normal usage of my phone. As you can see from the graph the last few hours were me connected to wi-fi constantly, tweeting, fiddling and browsing forums. Yes a quick drain but this is a phone!
My point of this post is compare this to tablets and netbooks. The majority last 6 hours, tops. The SGS II is a dual core, amoled phone. It was always going to be a beast on the battery. However if you use it wisely, ie only have Wi-Fi on when necessary, the phone lasts as this phone should.
It out performs most tablets and for the relative size of both screen and battery I would say that's hugely impressive.
Looking forward to your comments.

Your post is refreshing because of the following:
1) Clearly shows the display is the biggest drainer of battery. Anything else means you simply didn't setup your phone right or have some rogue app chewing stuff up.
2) You're not going bonkers with "OMFG my phone only lost 0% over 4 hours" and then post a graph that shows the screen was on for 2 seconds. Uh, well... duh! Completely stupid and pointless, glad your graph actually reflects real usage and battery drain.

now im gonna say this,
you people really shouldnt compare battery time like tht. Its the screen on time you should compare!! its far more accurate than this. i can get around 3h of constat use and connected to wifi. this is screen on time.
what's average screen time in hours for most users? i've been reading about 4 hours plus or minus 1. 8 hours is unreasonable on one charge? i like to read books so i am wondering about this. i highly anticipate this phone but the n9 kind of looks hot too if the rumor is true alien dalvik allows android apps on meego.
So what? You kinda never used your phone. Surf the internet connected via 3g and come back to tell me
So you use your phone less than my grandma and hardly get two days out of the battery?
Great, that's nothing to be proud of.
With this usage my Omnia7 lasted for a week but the SGSII drains harder than my kitchen sink.
I noticed light consumes unusually lot of power too .. I recommend not using it as torch. White screen works just as fine for me (in total darkness). It seems they put in even stronger LED then in previous models .. and it better be used just for the moment as photographic flash. Battery voltage drops significantly .. and it slowly returns after the LED is turned off .. which means it's really strained a lot.
I bet i can get 2 days of battery in the way you used your phone. Screen was rarely on, so you just showed us that you can get a day and a half of stand-by.
At the risk of being accused of grandma phone usage im actually fairly happy.. The wifi sharing thing is a ***** so axed that.

There's about 2 solid hours of screen time there, I wouldn't consider that too crazy. Did your gf realize the screen was on all that time? Your idle drain doesn't look great, try better battery stats and/or watch dog (mixed reviews).

My impressions about GS3 battery

I have bought GS3 2 days ago from Dubai the GS3 is amazing, this phone is the smoothest android phone I have ever used.
The only problem I have noticed with the battery it never reaches 100% it only reaches 99% when trying to get a full charge
So far I get with this battery nearly 8 hours and 30 mins to 9 hours with heavy usage, my phone is still unrooted so I didn't have a chance to try any juice defending apps.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I dont think anything is wrong with that....mw galaxy s doesnt reach 100% eighter...i think it has something to do with android protecting battery from overcharging

That isn't too impressive. However, you can expect the battery life to improve quite a lot after about 4-5 full charge cycles. Thanks for posting your experience

guys dont forget,if you need better battery life your first charge cycle should be a complete one without any interruption.
for a full charge cycle do i have to discharge the battery to 0% or just 1-5%

thanks for sharing. 8.30 hours of heavy use is respectable(if you can define heavy use it will be better though), but i had managed to get that with HOS on heavy use, even less so im confident it should be fine!
So confident i have already pre ordered a second battery as well! haha
I have been using the phone heavily since the past 12 hours which includes constant connection to 3g or wifi networks, app downloads, navigation for about half an hour, half hour of calls, 20+ texts, about an hour of streaming YouTube to my tv using twonky and I'm still at 35%.
And since the device is new so all my friends and colleagues have been checking out its sound, video and camera.
I haven't even been through my first full cycle yet and the results for me are pretty satisfactory so far.
Also it was connected to the car Bluetooth for about 45 mins and I had 15 mins of calls during that time.

Urban legend...
"It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery's life (this does not apply to Li-Ion batteries, which do not require conditioning). To discharge, simply run your device under the battery's power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in your user's manual."

Guys, the screen on time is the one we really need to see. It's the screen that really impacts the battery life on an amoled phones. Please try to include those in your screen shots.
Take this screen shot I just took from my GN for example. May look like great battery life but what you don't see is that the screen has only been on for 35 mins, so it's nothing at all special.

Just wondering if anyone has tried running their One M8 in High Performance Mode 24/7. I noticed that cores are still disabled and clocked down when not in use while High Performance Mode is enabled, so I don't think it will use as much battery as everyone thinks. The governor just seems to be more aggressive at clocking up under load. I'm guessing 30 minutes to an hour less screen on time. I enjoy the smoother scrolling in some apps that it provides, so I'm going to try keeping it on and see how my battery life is.
Thoughts? Anyone attempted this before?
Unless you don't play any games or benchmark the phone you shouldn't really get some benefits of that...also questions should be placed in Q&A !
This mode is just meant to be used for games and benchmarks
But I do see the benefits of it without playing games or running benchmarks... Scrolling in some apps is noticeably smoother.
And I was hoping for more of a discussion, not just an answer, as I will post my findings and would like to hear the thoughts and findings of others.
I'm running it today just to check... Normally, I'm getting ->

So I'll be disabling the power saver too.

Sweet lord. Am I reading that right? Your baseline is 10 hours screen on over more than two days... on a single charge???

Yes.
9-10 hours SOT (without gaming) with my normal usage.
Total time varies; 1d10hrs to 2d10hrs roughly.

Power saver and screen brightness probably very very low i'd say. Can't really get over 6 hours screen on with realistic average useage with powersaver off in my humble opinion.

You didn't even posted a screenshot of your app usage...even if it says 40% it can be other things especially if you have such on screen time...I very doubt that it was high usage or whatever...maybe just had always screen on but never really did something

What you said is not just preposterous, it's stupid.
Only an idiot could believe some adult, working, family man would leave his phone screen on all day
I was at work all day. Used it as I described there. Nobody asked for what you now ask, so nobody got it.
As for doubting... So you get a bad battery life, I get it. You wanna see my 3 week average screen on time?
Note: AVERAGE

Welp, my day of high performance mode is off. Will update tonight with my results.
Early results are looking promising.
7 hours on battery with 3 hours screen on time so far with high performance mode enabled, and only down to 63%.

Thats great!
If your usage is not heavy, neither mode should matter much.
I checked my processor states, and nearly all the main time, 3 cores were parked, 1 running 300-645MHz.

All around the web I have seen people advising not to use High Performance Mode for anything but benchmarks because it uses a lot of battery, but it looks like those statements are all completely false. It uses a little more battery, but not a lot more, and it's certainly feasable to leave High Performance Mode enabled all the time. I still got great battery life.
On to the results. Nearly 17 hours on battery, with 7 hours of screen on time. More setup details below.
-Completely stock Sense 6, 4.4.3 (2.22.1540.3). No root, no custom kernel.
-Google Now enabled
-"Ok Google" from any screen enabled
-Blinkfeed enabled (with FB, Twitter, G+, and Insta as sources)
-GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi always on
-Pebble smartwatch connected
-Auto brightness set to 50%
-Spent most of the day on Wi-Fi, except for when I went out for about an hour
I used my phone a lot more than I would in a typical day to deplete the battery and get some results, so it will definitely last me more than a full day in High Performance Mode with my normal usage.
Interesting. Going to try this myself. I'm not a HEAVY user, so I'll leave it always on for now and see how it affects battery.
I'm running it right now... Battery is dropping fassst!

I'm pretty sure fast for you is slow for everyone else considering you're like the battery whisperer or something with your 10 hour screen on times.
