On the ATT i337 I have been able to use the following command:
*#27663368378#
on TW roms to allow band eg LTE or 3g to be manually selected.
Anyone any idea idea how to do the same thing on Google Edition roms?
I prefer stock but would have to go back to TW if not...
Yeah, you call google.
You know they have another program they released also called Google search I think.....USE it.
Not helpful. This question has been posed by other users
ok, I apologize..
I added additional att apn settings, LTE/WCDMA/GSM, and it gave me LTE, is that what you are looking for?
If you are wanting to switch to 3g that feature from what I saw is not available. 2g only.
I'm looking to keep the device on 3g only I'm in a good 2g and poor 3g (but much faster area) and it keeps switching down to 2g.on the touch wiz s4 I can manually keep it on 3g using the command in the original post

I have an unlocked Defy from T-Mobile USA that I'm using with my AT&T service, but I'm only getting EDGE wherever I go, no UMTS at all, and I've even heard of people getting it to run on HSPA bands. I know already that HSPA is available everywhere from my home to my workplace, thanks to my Atrix 4G. I've rooted the Defy and it's running Cyanogenmod 7 latest. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I can find nothing on this forum or on Google to remedy the issue.
You should try to change the freq via baseband switcher. And restart.
Maybe you got the "2g only" checked in networks settings..uncheck that.
Settings >Wireless & networks > Mobile networks
You can also put automatic(2G and 3G) mode in GSM/UMTS network preferences.
Thanks for the reply Viper. I just noticed the baseband is set to some central Europe nonsense. Should I change it to one of the T-Mobile USA band settings? There's nothing there for AT&T.
Edit: I changed the baseband to US T-Mobile 3.Something, whichever was latest. 2G only was not checked. I'm still getting 2G only. Could it be my APN settings? Could I copy the APNs from my Atrix?
I'm having a problem with my AT&T connection as well, but I've been using my phone unlocked on the network since March with no problem. I'm new to modding, but OCD about streamlining my electronics. My friend suggested rooting my device and flashing a new ROM. I decided on stock Nordic Froyo, and it makes me so happy not to see all the T-mobile crap in my apps tray.
BUT the collateral damage is not so hot. I have no 3g or even 2g connection anymore. I tried the fix in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944258 and was able to get a signal with 4 bars instead of the previous state of emergency calls only, but no letters like E or 3g and no ability to use the internet/transfer data. I also installed the broadband switcher in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052745 and tried all of the T-mobile US bands. No luck. I did rest the APN to default. No change. I've been using wifi, but will have to go back to work soon. Not having access to the smart part of my smartphone will feel sort of like having an arm cut off.
I'm not sure what to do next. I could try flashing another ROM, but from what I've read in the forums, that's no guarantee.
If anyone has any suggestions to help a noob, I'd be forever grateful.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the link, halah. Do I apply this as an update.zip from recovery? Or install?
Never mind, it won't work for me, for whatever reason.
Hi everyone,
I've got the AT&T LG-G2 with 4.4.2, Xposed, Gravity Box, and G2 Tweaks Box.
I've looked through the forums and must simply be missing it; I can't imagine no one has asked the following:
Other day I was in a part of town with 3-4 bars, but no data connection of any kind. A friend gave me this dial code but it only forced 4G for a few minutes before going back to LTE.
Using XPosed or another app/hack, is there a way to force radio reception? My bootloader AFAIK is unlockable.
Also, any Android devs know what intent/intent-filters I could make own app/service to achieve this functionality to turn on automatically?
At work the 4g LTE signal for ATT is very poor in the building, but we have 4g repeaters for ATT to fix this issue. Unfortunately, phones are stubborn and like to stay on 4g LTE despite having 1 bar of signal vs full signal with 4g. I had this same issue on my iphone 5 but was able to easily force off LTE while i was at work and have a steady, reliable data connection. My Note 4 seems to have the same affinity to wanting to be on 1 bar of LTE, but I cannot figure out a way to toggle / force LTE off and just use 4g. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone know of an application I can use to resolve this issue?
Thanks
try settings...more networks...mobile networks....network mode....It should be in there..I have the sprint model so I don't know for sure...but that is where mine is....hope this helps

Unfortunately, there is no option for Network mode on the ATT version. I wonder if this has to do with voLTE....
I did find a backway to the network mode via *#*#4636#*#* but I am unsure of what I should be setting to "disable" lte while I'm in the building at work.
I think I've sorted this out now. If I change LTE/GSM AUTO to WCDMA preferred it seems to immediately switch and hold onto 4G. I do have to change it back. Maybe I will write something so I can quick toggle this since nothing on the app store seems to work.
hi,
If you are rooted ? You can use an xpose module called Intelli3G
I use it on my phone ,works 100% and switches smoothly/fast between eg 4G..3G automatic
eg if my data is of its on 3G as soon as i switch data on /wifi it changes to 4 G
For interest sake ,here is a link to market ,you can read desciption what it does ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.voidvapps.intelli3g&hl=en
good luck
I Have a brand new SIM from WIND mobile in Ontario that came in another phone. I have this Nexus 4 kicking around so I popped in the WIND sim, but it does not connect. When I go to search for mobile networks in settings, it finds all the non AWS carriers (including the 'WIND away' network) but does not show Wind 3G (this is what the correct network lists as on my phone supplied by them). I have played around a bit in the *#*#4636#*#* menu, but nothing seems to make it work. Is the AWS band disabled in some Nexus 4s, and is there a way to enable it?
Welcome to XDA
Okay, first of all to avoid duplicate threads please use the search function of XDA to find your answer, or do a little Googling...
Anyways to answer you question, the AWS band of the Nexus 4 is disabled by Google to lower costs. That may sound crazy, but the story goes something like this:
If you didn't already know, The Nexus 4 is based off of the LG Optimus G, and has a lot of the same insides...
The same board was used for the nexus 4 and Optimus G, and on some of the G models they had LTE on band 4 and 17.
The nexus 4 never went through the FCC for LTE so Google disabled it because it wasn't worth the trouble of supporting 1 band.
Now, your answer: Depending on the Android Version, it maybe as simple as tinkering with the Info menu you were in. (4.2.1)
Newer versions were harder to enable LTE
You need to figure out what you need to do depending on the newer version.
You may need something as simple as an older radio
You might need to unlock your phone's boot loader, (which requires a factory reset), or maybe even have to flash a custom recovery (like CWM or TWRP) and custom rom.
It would really help I knew more info about the device likel what Android version,if its rooted, or has an unlocked bootloader, etc.
If you don't know what any of this means DON'T WORRY, there is an entire community of people willing to help
Sorry I should have gone into more detail. I have done the various tricks to try to enable LTE, but is that the same as enabling the AWS network? I was under the impression from the WIND folks that the Nexus4 worked for them stock.
As for the firmware version, I have tried on 4.2, 4.2.2, KitKat (4.4 I think?). I have tried after flashing the stock roms of each of these versions as well as after rooting. I have also tried flashing different radio versions to no success.
I should also mention that under the "4636" menus I have tried to click "select radio band" from the menu, but this just crashes the process and goes back to the first menu.
So does no LTE mean no AWS?
Hmmm...
First of all, NEVER click Select Radio Band, like you said, it crashes both the menu and resets your connection. Bug? Unfinished feature? No one knows.
You are supposed to click on GSM/LTE button instead of WCDMA preferred.
If that sticks then you might be done on (4.2.1)
If on higher version, then get the older .33 or .27 radio or a hybrid radio
AWS is the band the nexus 4 has unofficial support for, so its actually the opposite:
No AWS=No LTE
So try getting 4.2.1 via factory images and try getting that working okay (WCDMA→GSM/LTE)?
If not then tell me
How about 4.2 (JOP40C)? I have that currently but I can go back and get 4.2.1 if necessary.
And just to put the AWS/LTE bit to rest, can I have (on this or any other phone) AWS without LTE, or are they synonymous?
I am playing with it right now without the sim becaue it is busy in the other phone. When I switch to GSM/LTE AUTO, I find AT&T as well as the big three Canadian networks, but still don't see WIND. I did not see the AT&T on WCDMA, but its spotty near the border here anyways.

Sorry for the late reply but,
In 4.2 all you have to do is switch to GSM/LTE and switch to correct APN's in the phone settings
You can AWS on 3G as far as I know but it won't make a difference...
The only reason we are using AWS band for LTE is because its the only one the Nexus 4 can see.
As for the last paragraph what do you mean you cant see WIND? What do you mean by "seeing"?
Can you clarify?

Could you try this small app (should trigger the radio band select menu) to see what options do you have?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mangelow.network
For the Wind Mobile AWS, you will need the WCDMA option. This is what Wind Mobile use, not LTE.
If you will be able to select the WCDMA option and still no Wind 3G/HSPA, then we will tinker with the APN settings.

By 'seeing' I mean when I go to the network selection / search function in settings. When I click to search for network providers, I do not see WIND3G as an option (or any WIND branded network). On the phone they provided me, when I search for networks I have several options that are labelled as WIND. If I recall correctly, I think I have about 12 choices between various providers, whereas with the Nexus 4 I just show three selections.
@DupleX01, Thanks. I will give that a shot when I get a few minutes to play with this at home. It has been a couple of weeks since I have worked with the Nexus.

It's a slow day at work, so I am back on this. I have tried setting the radio to WCDMA only, but this does not make a difference. The only network I can see with the SIM in is "WIND away", which I believe is Rogers. So I am on roaming. Should I flash a different radio to the phone? Anybody got suggestions on which radio is the best version for use on WIND?
With the SIM in, the APN settings are already correct for WIND, but I am not finding their network.
Also just for kicks I flashed kitkat (stock) again, including the radio that comes with the ZIP. No changes in network availability.. Gonna leave it on this for now unless someone suggests that it might be better to revert to 4.2.1 or another version.

Based on your findings, I would say everything is alright on hardware side (APN is good, radio ok for WCDMA). So, it could be a glitch with Wind micro sim card. Still bonded to the previous phone IMEI what not. Make sure you now the serial of the micro sim, your imei of the new phone and give them (Wind Mobile tech support) a call.

Edit: Sorted the issue, wasn't any problem of the phone. Cell provider (Vodafone NZ) has falsely told me that they were merging the 3g and 4g plans (as they were exact replica's of each other). I was having trouble signing up to the 4g plan, so they told me to just buy the 3g plan as it would work the same. Turns out they did a U-turn on that decision.
Hi all,
Reluctantly asking for help as I cannot figure out how to get 4G on my note 3.
I only ever get 3g, or H+, never 4g/LTE icons. Speedtest never goes above about 6 megabit's download.
What I know:
-I am on a 4g enabled SIM
-I got 4g on my Note 2 before upgrading
-The device was bought locally (N9005, baseband N9005XXUGNG1)
-Pretty sure its not a fake (CPU-Spy shoes 2.3ghz used, about phone shows 1920x1080, flashed to temasek's CM12 without a problem, PlayStore apps say its genuine)
-No 4g either on stock NZ rom, or CM 12
-The option is set to preferred network type: LTE
-The N9005 International LTE uses 850/900/1800/1900 and Vodafone New Zealand use 1800 frequency for 4g (source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2574886)
What I don't know:
-How to fix it! Can I flash a different baseband/could that be the problem?
-Is it a manufacturing fault?
Cheers
@iobbim on my n9005 I didnt had LTE option I enabled it in some lte file through es file explorer.

Try this buddy.
But you should have root access.
Go to the following path using RootExplorer
"root/data/property"
Open "persist.radio.lteon" and change it to true.
Then Reboot. And goto Mobile Network. Now you'll see LTE option.
See Screenshot.
Thanks.
Thanks to both of you for the reply. I might not have been quite clear enough.
I do have the preferred network type set to 4g, see screen shot. I also had the same options as your screenshot above on the stock rom where i set 4g but it didnt work.
Ive attached a screenshot of my root/data/property directory and i dont seem to have the right file, is it something i should be adding? I.e. if you provide the contents of the file.
Thanks
Edit... Wow OK I'll put this on hold until I go back to city to check 4g. Few weeks ago I was having trouble signing up to 4g plan, but it was failing, so I rang provided who said they are merging both the 3g and 4g plans. They told me to buy the 3g plan and 4g would work and they needed to update their self service options. I tried adding the 4g plan again today and it worked... Looks like they did a potential U turn on that decision.
