I'm not getting any Kernel Links for the Sprint 9505. Trying to obtain full root using "
[RECOVERY]SPH-L720 OUDHS Recovery" I'm stuck at "With the SGS4 samsung has introduced a setuid kernel, which will block root access. you will need to flash a source compiled kernel in order to fully root." Then there is a reply... "Is there a source compiled kernel available?" The threads reply....yes, i have a stock one, agat has his and faux's....SO....HELP....where can I download these? Google search is hopeless thus far

Uhm, root is not in the kernel mate. Just flash the stock kernel and you will not loose root.

Ah! When I about to left the recovery, there is a notice that "fix the root". Thanks anyway.
I'm just coming from the S2 EG4T where, from what I understand, the kernel and recovery were all contained in one file. Is this different for the S4...are they separate?
If they are separate files, I am rooted, and want to get a custom recovery so I can flash some mods. Do I also need a custom kernel or do I only need a custom kernel to over/underclock/get additional governors and schedulers?
Thanks for helping me understand this new phone of mine.

yes recovery is separate thankfully. you are free to flash kernels all you want and your recovery will be untouched.
see the kernel threads for info on what they features they offer.

Yups, what lafester said is corrrect. For the recovery, I recommend TWRP v2.5.0.2. You can download and install via Goomanager from the app store. It's a touch-based recovery and it also supports up to 64GB exFat microSDs.
As for custom kernels, my current favorite is agat's v0.2.0 kernel.
Hello, I have I9505 with Philz Recovery and SlimBean ROM.
I've tried to flash this kernel, but my device stuck at boot,
tried flashing Chronic 4.2 kernel - reboots after 1-2 minutes.
Please, give the link to stock kernel (as far as I remember is was something like "....3.4.0.....")

Why would you flash a stock kernel on a custom rom? No benefit in that, only possible trouble. It is better to stick with the kernel that comes with the rom.
I m looking for just the stock kernel of the 910f "N910FXXU1ANK4"
How can i get that kernel only not the whole stock rom
Hi Dolphin,
I saw that on the first page in the thread for N4 Echoe Rom v2 there is also a link for downloading just the stock kernel. But downloading from that link require you have the Mega download app. I don't use that app myself, so I haven't verified if the kernel file you need is actually there or not. But you could check it out, if you haven't found the kernel already
I can send you NJ4 if you want it
I would like to have it

The ael kernel has messed up my phone so would be really nice of you if you could get me the stock kernel.
You can extract a stock rom. Kernel is inside.

AOSP and Stock use different kernels, if that is what you are having an issue with. They are not interchangeable.

So just to clarify in laymen terms, cause this is my first phone with an unlocked bootloader. In order to install a kernel, the kernel has to be compatible with the bootloader. This I already know. However my main problem is why AOKP and Paranoid KK roms won't install on using a KK bootloader. I can only install these two KK roms mentioned above with the JB bootloader only. This is what I don't understand.

Bootloader doesn't really matter as long as the hack you are using supports the bootloader. Our bootloader is locked, they just use bugs to get around the lock. Different BLs have different exploits available.
You could probably install those ROMs, you would just have to make sure the proper hack is applied first.
