(Droid X 2 weeks old) I’m trying the temporary root option.
It reads I’m rooted until my next reboot, but I’m trying to use the wifi tether and it reads “Sorry, but your kernel does not have all necessary features for running the application.”
Busybox says "Not Rooted"
What must I do?
From what I understand, the temporary root keeps you rooted only unless you
reboot. So each time you reboot the phone, you have to temporary root in z4
over again. Otherwise, just do the permanent root.
you should use z4root 1.1.0 not 1.3.0 and permanent root. Worked for me.

You also need to install the super user app from the market.
The features its talking about is Access-Control, which has never really worked to begin with. The app will still do what its supposed to just you can't use that one feature.
Prob just didn't get the pop-up to allow su privileges. Usu. just exit & restart the app & allow when it shows...

& z4root 1.3.0 works & installs su when it roots - u might want to get a more updated busybox from mkt tho.
As a sidenote, when I first used it I had to temp root first, then perm root after. Other times it just took a min or two to achieve perm root.
Im trying to root my D2. Followed the guide on TheUnlockr. Got to one of the final steps (the one where it tells you to download ConnectBot and type cd /data/local/tmp, enter, ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin).
That works for me. Then it says something like "forked xxxx children". Then I type exit, and it freezes til it force closes. I can't reopen the app after. I have to uninstall/reinstall and usually pull the battery.
I've tried different terminal emulators as well; they all do the same thing.
Has anyone else rooted using this method? am I doing something wrong? Btw, I have a Droid 2 Global (if it matters) running 2.3

Try this one instead:

That, or search for Z4Root, it will root a Froyo Droid 2 or D2G, but if you already ran the OTA GB update it will not, you'd need the method above.
Thanks, I'll check it out in a little bit. I did use the Z4 method prior to the recent OTA update. It said it worked, but I couldn't flash a custom rom. Also, when I used a Root Checker from the Market, it said I wasn't rooted either. This is all before I updated.

Edit: That one-click method didn't work either. It went through, rebooted my phone three times, and said it should be rooted. I used that Root Check app, and it said I didn't have root access. Also went to use Barnacle Wi-Fi Tethering, and that said I didn't have root either, even though I have SU on my phone.

I would SBF back to Froyo and run the OTA again, that will guarantee the root is removed. Then use the link I provided and you should have SU. Running Z4 might have corrupted some files since it's not compatible with OTA GB.
How do u go back to froyo

I've been messing with my phone for about 2 days now since I've gotten it. I haven't had any issues and have installed a ton of ROM's. However I keep having one issue. Every time I flash an ICS rom I keep getting denied root access. I've tried every ICS ROM available and every one does it to me. None of the gingerbread ROM's have broken it. It installs just fine, but any time I try to do anything that requires superuser permissions they get denied, but if I flash back to a 2.3.x ROM I'll have complete root access.
It doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone else from what I've been reading. I'm permanently rooted with gfree and have the good eMMc chip. Is this just normal with ICS ROM's or is there a fix I am too blind to find? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I've come from the Motorola Triumph from Virgin Mobile that's practically rooted out of the box.
Sounds like your not fully wiping everything. The ics roms had root problems when they updated to 4.0.4 but was fixed and shouldn't have that problem now. Use 4ext recovery if your not already using it. use the "wipe everything but sd" option and try a ROM again.

Well I'm not sure if this would help but when you flash an ics rom go to your apps through the settings, find superuser, click force stop then clear the cache...then try opening up terminal emulator and tryping SU and hit enter and press allow.
Hope this works for you, I remember a long time ago it was a problem with one of the miui roms for the mytouch.
Don't forget to hit thanks if it worked

This was actually the first thing I tried. I use 4ext and I have always used the wipe all (but sd card) option. I also didn't use Titanium backup to restore apps or anything like that so I'm not sure what it could be.

After doing this I have the same issue I have every time I've tried to check my root status through the terminal emulator. It always says "Permission Denied" and it won't even bring up the superuser box.
(Superuser is still in my applications though, and when I open it up it has been logging the denied attempts in terminal emulator.
This happened on Ice Cold Insomnia.
Huh, idk what the problem is, maybe try re-rooting the phone with a different method? What method did you use?

gfree
Try changing su app to automatically allow su permissions instead of prompt to see if su is even granting access.

The rooting method has absolutely nothing to do with root privileges on custom ROMs flashed through custom recovery.
Actually, the rooting method doesn't even matter. All that matters is S-OFF. And since the OP has S-OFF, no re-rooting will possibly do him any good.
OP, many of ICS ROMs moved to SuperSU instead of Superuser app. Maybe that causes you problems.

So would I just install SuperSU then? I downloaded it but it didn't make a difference.
EDIT: I flashed Zips Creamed Glacier and SU is working fine. I guess I'll just stick with this one. Thank you to everyone for your suggestions.
So my nexus 4 is rooted and running 4.2.2 stock rom with franco r83 kernel.
Everything was running great, until today I had to reboot my nexus. Since then I can't get any app root acces. I've rebooted a couple of times now but no advance.
What to do? Reinstall superuser or something?
Open superuser, do you have all apps there? granted permission?

Yes. I just downloaded SU Checker and it says 'su declined / not found'... so the problem is the superuser that got... corrupt or something?
There's a process to change superuser with superSU, I think it's on faux kernel thread.. Try that
Yeah, superSU was what I was talking about.
But I'm totally confused right now, I've download a couple of Root test apps and one is saying I'm not rooted, the others say I am.
I updated to 4.2.2 with some root keeper app, maybe something went wrong there? (although it was working for a couple of days?...)
superuser and superSU are two different apps but they do the same thing.
Some roms / kernels work better with one of them, that's why I'm advising you to change the superuser app.

I was running SuperSU. Now... I guess I'll have to reroot my device? I have like 4 apps telling me I'm rooted and 2 I'm not.
Announcement
Hello, all. I'm working on an exploit to unlock the Verizon Moto E 2015's bootloader. I have achieved temporary root, but it is reset on reboot. Currently, I have a theory about unlocking the bootloader, but I'm still in progress of testing it. If any of you want to help, just comment on this thread. Sorry I don't have much to say yet lol (I just got the phone today), but hopefully soon I'll discover something. Recent updates in third post, milestones in second
Milestones
Kinda wish KingRoot was open source
Recent Mini Updates
Android 5.1
[9/04] Temp. Root, Reboots and loses it after short amount of time, working for fix
[9/05] Rerooted my device about 30 million times today. SystemUI keeps crashing and forcing a reboot. Can't get a permanent "hobbled root" yet, like some have managed.
[9/05] Moved the su binary into every folder where command binaries are stored (sbin, xbin, bin, etc.) and all were reset upon a reboot. And for some reason, on another test, all partitions somehow got remounted as read-only.
[9/05] Tried editing a script in /system/etc (init.qcom.bt.sh) to install su binary on boot; script reverted to original on reboot
Android 5.0
[9/05] Got it rooted once...Reset upon reboot, haven't accomplished it again since
Awesome!!!

Hi Bhamilto0347,
I am interested. Previously I had permanent root by Kingroot app. But after factory reset I lost the root. Now again I tried Kingroot, but root not surviving the reboot.
At random point of time, system partition mounts in rw mode...
Ok, Please share your method... we will try to work further.
Thanks
Did you have permaroot on 5.0.2 or 5.1?

Well, I'm working with the KingRoot app, too. I've just been looking for a way for it to stick. I haven't got it to mount in read/write yet, and it fails when I run the command while I have temp. root. I have a theory about unlocking the bootloader IF I can get permanent root.
Very interested in this.

I had it on 5.1
Then once I did factory reset & lost the root.
Now I try to get root by Kingroot but not sticking.....
While doing kingroot method, I found that /system partition mounts in rw mode for short period (5to10sec) after kingroot's 100% progress... I have created a script which will copy su & busybox to /system/xbin. I ran the script immediately after Kingroot's success as root user. Able to copy files to /system/xbin but not sticking reboot.
The system partition what we are seeing may not be an actual but shadow copy one which every time creates upon reboot from original one.
Hope the above information helps you.
I'd be willing to test, I only use my Verizon Moto E as a backup phone.
I think this is the problem we are going to see with all the newer phones. The red only is the same problem on the Samsung Note 4. I have a Motorola E for a backup and would love to see permanent root for it. Great phone for under $60, would love to see its full potential with a custom rom

Works to root the device
should work with locked Bootloader, tested on 5.1

It is safe. The king master that is installed is a toolbox, of sorts. Uninstall, Pandora, etc. There is even a script that will give you temp root if permanent root fails. All in all i would say its OK. I would suggest supersu over superuser. I just rooted an old s3 i had.
not sure though, use with caution but root sticks after reboot,
