[Q] Internet Data Activity Log Monitor - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Friends,
I keep mobile internet off since I am on limited 3G plan. Only when I want, I turn the data on. Hence, I wanted an app which will connect to the internet say, every 30 minutes and sync emails, whatsapp, etc. Hence, I downloaded "Automatic Data Switcher - 3G"
Now I am looking for an App which will give me time-wise data log, that is, the app should provide me an activity log which will tell me when internet was connected during the day.
Are there any apps available which can show at what times during the day, net was connected and how many bytes were used?
Regards,
Niks

Data connnection automatically starts

I have O2 unlimited web bolton on my account but for some reason O2 swapped it back to unlimited text bolton. I mange to change it back to unlimited web bolton.
I observed on my bill that everyday there is usage of around 30 to 50 kb of data on my account.
I have connected my HD with WIFI and Data communication is off. But of some reason, Data communication automatically gets on and hence I think it try to do something and everyday their is data usage.
Can anyone tell me how to stop Data communciation started automatically.
You can turn it off using the advanced configuration tool. Just do a search and download it.
I have advance configuration tool. Can you point me to a particular setting
It should be under Data connections.
Thanks, I found it. It is under Menu --->More Settings ---> Connections

Force E-mail to use WiFi

I gave my wife my old 8125 to use when her phone went out, now she's hooked on it & wants to be able to check e-mail. she dosen't have or want a data plan on it, and is home most of the time, but can't get to the computer b/c of other responsibilities.
I have set it up to access wifi, and it will use it for PIE, But when I set up the e-mail account it wants to dial out to check. I have tried setting the account to work, and internet but it just won't work, If I let it use medianet it's fine.
Any ideas?
I have not found a way to keep WIFI active at all times and doing so would kill the battery in just a few hours anyway. (seems to be more problematic on secure wifi networks)
This is the solution I use because I don't have an unlimited data plan and I don't want anything using the mobile phone network and thus being charged for data usage.
I stop GPRS on the phone using a freeware program called "NODATA". It toggles off the data connection to the phone company. The phone itself and text messaging still work without GPRS. I can then connect to a hotspot and everything else uses wifi instead. SMTP mail, internet browsing, google, search, etc. all flow through the wifi and I don't get billed for it.

Works great for me. Simply toggle GPRS back on only when you need it...
I've heard of others setting up "fake" GPRS connections settings and switching to those. Since the "fake" connection fails, it rolls over to WIFI. But this is much simpler.

Permantely turn off Data

Is there way I can permanently turn off data so that programs like mail and weather do not automatically connect to it and turn it. I don't have a data plan so I don't want to be charged for it. The only reason i don't just delete the AT&T media net settings is because I need it when I want to use MMS.
Search on "NoData".
the problem with no data is that i cant reconnect to media net after i disable it. so im looking for an alternate solution
In that case as far as I can tell, you'll probably need to turn off the relevant settings for weather and mail, etc.
That's what I figured is the only solution, but sometimes the phone will just automatically connect to data so that there is the symbol on the top bar and when I go to the communications screen, the data switch is off. Will I be charged just for being connected or only if I download something. Basically is it charged by just bytes downloaded or also by time connected.
Yeah I had the same problem when I was roaming abroad. Every day it connected at night and used for approx. 1euro50 data. By the time I was back home I received a 45 euro bill! I also disabled weather, sync and stocks. No idea what application using data connection...
MoDaCo noData allows you to turn off Internet, WAP, and MMS independently. Why is this not a suitable solution?

[Q] Auto Enable/Disable Data Connection

Hello, few days ago I megrated from WM6 to Android in my HD2: everything is so better and it works very good, excpet the data connection settings!
In WM6 I installed a tweak (Montecristoff), and it turned my connection on/off just when I opened/closed internet or other apps.
Now I have the connection ALWAYS or NEVER...everytime I need to send mms, open market or internet, first I have to turn on the H/3G and then open the app I wanna use!
I'm searching an app that gaves me the connection automatically when I need, but when I stop to use, that app has to close the connection after few seconds!
I tried with JuiceDefender but it doesn't work like I want!
Please help me!
I try to explain it better:
I need an app for Android that allow my data connection just when I request, for example when I use Internet, Meteo, Market and so on...the rest of time data connection has to be down!
JuiceDefender does it, but not like I want...when the display is black, the data connection is off, but it's ok when I turn on the display...but I don't want this...I want that my data connection starts just lunching specific apps!
Thank you!

<<<<<<<Check mail every hour over GPRS or WiFi

What app would enable wifi first and if unsuccessful gprs than check for mail every hour.Of course to disable the connection after certain period of time.
Thank you

Try Tasker, you can schedule all kinds of things with it.
Thank you for your reply.I tried tasker but it does not have this function or maybe I could not find it.
Wanted to do first wifi check to see if WIFI is near and collect the mail if WiFi is not near to automaticaly switch GPRS and collect mail. Turn off GPRS
Why? Your phone already looks for open wifi spots or spots you already logged in to. If it can't find any, it switches to your mobile internet connection. And it drops the connection after a while automatically..

Just set tasker to turn on wifi and mobile data every hour and turn them off again after a couple of minutes. If you have your mail set to sync automatically it will check for mail when a data connection becomes available, wifi first then mobile data.
As above though, not sure why you would want to do this. You could just change your sync schedule to hourly and the phone will connect automatically.
