Hi Guys, I am confused. What is the difference between the a i9505G rom and CM Rom? As far as I can tell, they are both vanilla android 4.2.2...or am I wrong? I would really appreciate it if someone can clarify for me. Thanks!
CM is pure AOSP
GOOGLE is not.
Google.comes with many stock google apps that are not open source... such as maps and gmail.
CM does not.
The GE edition is maintained by Samsung.
CM is well maintained by CM.
There are major differences also in uset interface.
CM has man advancements to the UI and tweaks that stock Google even on the official NEXUS does not.

Ah, I see. Thank you so much for the clarifications!
Software wise - The i9505g has IR Blaster support but CM doesn't... Yet. Plus it's a lot smoother than CM but it lacks a lot of the good features that CM has to offer.
Has CM merged with the i9505GE ROM yet?

Hi all.
I just recently got my Sprint Galaxy S4 and yesterday I successfully rooted it using Chanfire's auto-root and then installed the custom bootloader using GooManager. Everything worked well and I'm all set there.
I'm currently "in the market" for a decent and stable ROM compatible with the S4. I'm not a developer, so I'm not really interested in experimental ROMs that could potentially be unstable.
I'm looking for something solid, user friendly, that will increase phone performance while still letting me do the stuff I love.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Forcerom but honestly the most stable will be stock ROM

Or Clark's ROM is also good.

TouchWiz is the stock Samsung launcher.
When you flash a TouchWiz ROM you will typically retain most of the "gimmicky" features that the S4 came with (IR blaster, air sensors, etc.) You may also notice better battery life on TouchWiz ROMs until AOSP is better calibrated for the S4. (Some may disagree with this, I personally see better battery life on my S4 on a TouchWiz ROM.)
AOSP means Android Open Source Project, which just means it's barebones vanilla android with no manufacturer skin/overlay over the top.
These are typically run by people who want a pure stock android experience.

My suggestion....read the OP of each ROM and decide what is right for YOU. No one likes the same exact features as you.
Then make a backup and try each candidate for a day. Don't like it? Restore your backup and try another.
You will never regret giving Blu Kuban a try.
How about Liquidsmooth or SlimRom, or AOKP, etc.... Developed with Google Edition? Possible? or just pipe Dream?
Ultimate option would be one of the above with TW apps.
Point of those is to get rid of TW. It would be an oxymoron. Find some better apps.

Just a pipe dream. Those roms use their own custom frameworks and would have to be redone from the ground up.

GE 4.2.2 from system dump leak supports TW kernel I believe. Users report WatchON and other Samsung apps to work. Samsung Camera works but is not fully functional afaik.
Did you look at the dev sections and read OPs
GoldenEye seems to fit bill to me--latest OS/stock kernel/flashable to zip to restore all samsung apps/services
Hey XDA,
So I came from the Toro GNex and really enjoyed both Muzzy and Shiny's roms since they were both a very vanilla version of AOSP.
Does anyone know of any roms, specifically for Verizon, that are pretty close to vanilla AOSP? I would prefer stability over custom features that many devs have added to their versions of AOSP.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Since the G2 didn't come with an AOSP, people have mostly been using AOKP or CM to make their vanilla-ish ROMs. I haven't seen anything that's just plain AOSP.
Have you tried other ROMs?

I've been pretty swamped at work, so I haven't had a lot of time for crack flashing any AOSP roms. Currently I'm running debloated stock.
I didn't realize PA or CM were close to vanilla AOSP, do you recommend giving them a shot/are they stable at this point?

So I'm on CM11 using the nightly build from 1/31. You can try the latest nightly, but there' have been reported issues. I'm not familiar with them though. There's a lot of talk on the G+ CM community. I'd join that anyway.
Whatever you do, do a complete backup so you can just revert back if something isn't to your liking.

I'm on PA 4.0 Beta 6 and I really like it. There is a new 4.1 version out that I think is good, but it took out some of the customization (so it's probably worth trying both to see which you like). PA is vanilla I think...I've ran it for so long I don't have a reference point any more haha. I came from a Toro GNex on PA 3.99.

Also came from toro Gnex and used vanir there. Now I use PA.:good:
For the record, ParanoidAndroid is normally FAR from pure vanilla AOSP, it's only vanilla-ish now because the main features(hybrid engine, Hover(the Halo replacement), per-app dpi, etc.) are not finished yet. That being said, stability is never really an issue(all ROMs have issues at the moment, at least until the new 4.4 kernel sources can be implemented). I factory flashed my manta last weekend, and I forgot how bare pure AOSP really is. Most custom features add to the experience, and if you don't like them you can just turn them off. :good:
Still, the G2 is lacking a true AOSP ROM. Again, PA doesn't count because eventually it will re-add all the features in a few months time. There's nothing like Purity or RastaKat for the G2. I was contemplating learning how to port Purity over to the G2 earlier, seeing as how Purity has a hammerhead version. I just don't have the time at the moment.
Hello, since Samsung is not releasing Android M for this device I was thinking of using a custom rom. Obviously I am not going to have TouchWiz but I was wondering if everything else (e.g. the S-Pen) is going to work fine.
Also, I see that for now there is no official CyanogenMod 13 for this device. Does anyone know if it is going to be released?

There is not an official CM13 yet, but there are a couple of unofficial builds, I'm running Temasek's. The thing is running so far very good, actually, and it has a couple of baked in bonus stuffs not found on a typical CM build.

Porting M will be a b*tch.
First off, there are beta builds for Samsung's top dogs only so far, and only the most impatient devs would go porting an unfinished firmware only to have to do it all over again once the official stable build drops.
The porting itself won't be easy. Quite different bootloaders, devs had troubles porting the S6/Note 5 because our stock firmware for now is 5.0, and those of the S6/Note 5 were 5.1.1. Libraries, APIs, frameworks, etc. might be troubling once porting starts because yet again - our stock firmware is based on Android 5.0, the new on 6.0.
So, be patient, young one. The future is coming.
What about the feature that will be missing from CM?
Is the S Pen going to be usable as an input device for drawing and such?

Hello guys. I want to know if anyone can compile a pure AOSP rom with basic features such as screenshot delete and pre root. It would be great if there would be a rom purely based on AOSP with no modifications
It's just a request
Because AOSP+xposed = Best ROM
Love to see dirty unicorn ?
Yes Indeed!
Also liquidsmooth and AOSParadox
A stock ROM would be fantastic

Yes. AOSP is much appreciated. I tried to build, but you know right. Lack of experience. Thanks.
