[Q] Maps and battery - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people,
I will be going on holiday soon, now I am trying to get as much battery life out of the Nexus as possible. But I stumbled upon maps. Since my Nexus is a wifi only device why does it use that much battery.
I will appreciate any help you guys can provide.

Maps runs a lot of background services for location reporting and location-aware services such as Google Now. If you're rooted, you can use an app called Greenify to massively take off the hurt, but otherwise it really comes down to disabling location reporting wherever you can. Disabling your GPS can help a bit (power-drain wise, since Maps will still try to run anyway with coarse location).

Before i have try 3.2.1 and there is nothing wrong..
But i like the new functions in 3.3.1, so can anyone help me?
Greets,
Bobbe
Please PM if you have a answer.
Does it ever finish downloading the image? I've noticed that this version of Google Maps is a lot slower than the previous version. When panning around maps it seems to take a lot longer to download the new sections than the old version. It's a shame really because, like you, I quite like some of the new features they've added in.
give it a few seconds....
@ home with WiFi it takes one second to load!
I think
It was ready with loading, wait for a long time but no difference.
I've installed 3.3.1 and my streetview is fine, it does seem to take longer to load than the previous version (as in a few seconds more, not absolute ages!)

GPS drains the battery quickly. This is common among all smartphones. Disable it unless you're ready to use it, or stay near a charger.

If you don't or use it without a lot of frequency maps, freeze it with Titanium Backup and defrost whenever you want to use..

GT-I9505 Battery Drain issue

I've been playing with GT-I9505 for few days, and I feel like my Galaxy S4 has serious battery drain issue.
Its idle time is okay. I always turn on GPS to be able to use any location services like GPS tagging on photos or Google Now. I use auto brightness to reduce any battery drain.
The problem happens when I use internet. Whenever I use any internet services like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Chrome, etc, the battery goes down about 5% while holding and using internet for 5 to 15 minutes. I just felt this is wrong.
Another weird part is Google Maps. I never used Maps app today, but it sucks about 30% of battery. I assume it's because of Google Now's location services, but I still don't understand how Google Maps and Google Now is connected when I used GPS only few times during a day.
Anyone experiencing similar drain issue? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Awful Battery Life! (<2 Hours SoT)

So I've been getting some pretty abysmal battery life so far. Running out of ideas of what to do!

I've done a full factory reset, which made no difference. And the screenshots above were taken with location services completely disabled! Any suggestions?
There's quite a lot of wakelock time from Android OS and Android System, but would that really be enough to cause this much drain? Then there's the problem of actually finding a way to stop it. It's just annoying as otherwise this is a fantastic phone, and I really want to like it, but this is just putting me off.
I think it might good idea install a Wake-lock detector app to whats happening also check this thread

Thanks, I've been taking a look through that thread but haven't found anything specific just yet.
As for a wakelock detector, I'm not rooted just yet, so there's very minimal information I can actually get annoyingly.

Thanks
A factory reset should do the trick! If you don't want to go through that hassle maybe there's some new app you've installed that could be affecting this.
You may want to try Wakelock Detector. Note, however, that the paid version is needed for detailed information about particular apps.
