Hello fellow xda-members,
I am currently waiting for the delivery of my SGP 311. Should be here by monday :fingers-crossed:.
I chose the XTZ because of its features, design and weight and last but not least price. It was a head to head race with the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014, which falls behind in design (touchwiz urgh), weight and pricing (180 bucks more), but has one feature, that I do find useful as a student: The S-pen.
I know that no third party stick can replace a fully integrated pen system like the s-pen, but I dont need the complete package. I am looking for a reliable and useful combination of accessoires both software and hardware, that will enhance the creative capabilities of the XTZ to some extent.
Please share your good/bad experiences with certain pieces of hard-/software.
I would need suggestions:
Case (w/ keyboard?)
Stylus
Bluetooth headset
Creative software for students
Thanks in advance,
Buster
Case: I'd say the Original Sony one. It is really expesive compared to third party ones, but every single of them had some kind of problem that turned me off. I use mine mostly for transport and at school, to protect. At home, I'm really careful, so I just remove it (it gets bulky and heavy-ish).
Stylus: Can't comment about that
Bluetooth Headset: Can't comment about that²
Apps for Stundents: I can recommend quite a few. I'm assuming you know most apps, but still giving some obvious recommendations.
Cal: It's a Beautiful Calendar app. I'm using it because 4.3 stock Calendar app is basically useless, as it force closes all the time (I'd probably fix it by doing a factory reset, but I'm too lazy for that now).
Calcu - The Ultimate Calculator: Quite feature-rich, beautifully designed calculator. The stock one is quite good too, not as feature rich, though.
CliffHanger: I'm constantly watching TV Series, and this is a great app to have notifications about new episodes and to keep track of which you have watched already.
ConvertIt (Pro): Great conversion app, lots of units (LOTS)
Google Drive: Great writing app, IF you have a internet connection the whole time. It is almost useless as a editing tool while offline.
Box.net: I'm not sure if the promo is still going on, but if it is, as a Xperia owner, you have 50 Gb of lifetime cloud storage.
Financious: Great, also beautifully designed, finances tracking app.
MX Player: Awesome video player. With a plugin, you can reproduce basically everything.
Office Suite (Pro): I personally don't like their editor, but the reader is quite good, specially PDF.
PackageBuddy (Pro): Great package tracking app.
Sony Sketch: Great simple drawing app... A stylus would make it more useful.
Sony Tasks: Not feature rich, but useful for simple things.
Timetable (by Gabriel Ittner): Well designed, highly customizable Timetable app.
Those are the ones I can recommend. Hope you enjoy your device. In any doubts, just let us know
Case = Poetic SlimLine
The case is pretty heavy, but very thin, magnet works very well and is one of the better cases available. Still the best case I've seen. If you are going to carry it in a bag near a wallet you might not want a magnet that strong though...
Sony MDR-10RBT with viper4android; pretty awesome!.
Case official sony one. Had a poetic slim and it damaged the LCD display; so I got a new tablet and sony case. Also bought the dock, it's worth it if you plan on maintaining waterproof long term. Also you should try to use the USB port as little as possible. Tabs are flimsy and damage easily, also the USB port is weak in that if used too often one of those days when you unplug it you may take the port along with you!
Poetic slim is a nice feel case but it doesn't bend as easily as the tablet itself. If you use a dock to charge as I did, I had to remove the tablet from the case daily and that means bending my display daily which eventually lead to dead pixels; the case also exerts why to much pressure on the table which makes rainbows swirls more likely to occur and damage if dropped. If you want to see for yourself insert the tablet into the case while the screen is on.
These quirks aside; it's an awesome tablet! And it's is built for the long haul. I love being able to wash it when it's dirty and curtesy of Aqua cam Z Pro, I have got some awesome pics from my last snorkel adventure in the ocean; probably won't do that again as the tablet doesn't float at all!
I am trying to decided between two smart watches.
first we have the "E-Ceros Smart Nano Waterproof 3G Smartwatch - MTK6577 Dual Core 1GHz CPU, 1.54 Inch Capacitive Touch Screen, IP57"
then we have the "ZGPAX S5 Android 4.0 Smart Phone Watch - 1.54 Inch Touch Screen Display, Camera, Dual Core CPU (Black)"
Things I have about both:
the first one, has the back button on the left side as well as the power button. big annoyance.
the second one being the zpax. i hate the camera placement. its too obvious especially when entering government agencies.
in addition theres also this one which is somewhat oversized for a wrist wtch but seems to be a powerhouse. even the batter is 900maH. Android Phone Wrist Watch "Rock" - Quad Band, 2 Inch Capacitive Screen, 2MP Camera (White)
Pls recommend.

If you want the best Android smartwatch - Check the A.I Watch I already pre order it and impatient to wear it on my wrist
About the E-Ceros Nano
This smart watch is amazing, with regard to it's ability to make phone calls form seemingly anywhere.
The SIM came for my watch today, and I have been able to make calls from where I work, a large brick building. And also at home, a double brick building also.
The call quality to the receiver, is, as though froma full size phone.
The caller audio through the phone's speaker is quite loud and crystal clear.
But the annoying thing is, the keyboard characters are SO small, even using a magnifying glass and a small rubber tipped stylus,I have been totally unable to register the device on Play Store. It is impossible to get any letter right.
If anyone else with the watch has a solution, I will be very grateful.
My intention was to register it, then download "Speaktoit" Assistand to work around keying in emails, texts, searching, etc.
I think this will be a problem for all 3G smartwtaches, not linked to a Master phone via Bluetooth.
Also, in my opinion, a phone larger than 1.54 inches would be impossible to wear. This one causes shirt sleeve problems & it is probably one of the smallest.

SmartQ Zwatch also has 1.54 inch screen and can type with relative ease on it, so probably the keyboard you have installed on the watch is not good or maybe screen on your watch is not as accurate. Flit Keyboard is very good for smartwatch (after check no popup in keyboard settings), try to sideload flit keyboard apk to your watch and install, then type and try.
E-Ceros Nano is EC-309 based. With an exposed SIM slot shown on the E-Ceros Nano I find it a bit hard to believe that it's water resistant. And having completely dissassambled an EC-309, the SIM slot is only only of many water ingress points. It would take a serious redesign to even get splash resistance much less IP57.
Both are also based on a two year old CPU that was known for being battery hungry.
Hello
I use hackers keyboard on my zwatch and its really easy to use. I set it to 68%, lts big enough to type with my finger

The user manual states it is not waterproof. One of the first statements in the user manual.
I think the SIM receptacle in the band would be like an air pocket and water would not enter. I once had my yearly bus ticket in it's plastic sleeve get into the washing machine, - it was not damaged after a complete wash cycle.
But I would be concerned about water entering the speaker grill also on the band.
I would not be concerned about rain, unless it was torrential,
Water can get into the SIM slot.
LOL. If it's built like the EC-309 that it is, then it's even less water resistant the your typical smartphone. Even a light spray can kill these things.
Hi everyone,
As said on tittle, I'm looking for a smart watch with the following requisites:
- Android complete 4.2 or higher
- Cell phone itself (gsm/wcdma)
- IP68?
I need it for swimming/surfing/similar, due to my work, I need to be contactable (calls/email) everytime, and sometimes I go swimming/surfing.
I bought an Imacwear M7, but the people said it's not ip67 and that it will die if I use it on the sea.
Does anyone tried this? Any other smartwatch? Any other options?
I'm a little bit lost, need your opinion and/or experience
Thanks a lot
none of the standalone (phone) watches will be fully water proof, because of microphone/speaker, if ever there will be one
some of them might claim water resistance but i wouldn't wear them not in shallow water, let alone the sea
the Sony Smartwatch 2 for example, claims to be ip57, but can't survive a shower. that watch doesn't even have a microphone or speaker
might be build quality related though
Swimming and surfing plus speaker and mic? That's 1 ATM (10m/30ft) rating at a minimum. No such creature exists, yet. It is possible to do, but companies would rather sell fashion smartwatches with laughable IP ratings instead.

Don't waste your money. Tried that on three smartwatches, as well as a fourth project smartwatch of my own. It doesn't work. The treatment wears off when it comes in contact with pretty much anything. Oil deposits in the air from cooking, your skin, cloth, sand, dirt.

I use Tempo Trainer Pro watch. U can find it here http://www.proswimwear.co.uk/ . It's includes a clip for dry land exercise. I am sure you will find it better then apple watch or Garmin.
I still havent found what im looking for...
Like I said before, no such creature exists. The best you can hope for is a regular smartwatch and then have somebody like me mod it to get it to a 1ATM (33ft) WR rating.
Hi lokifish Marz.... I´ve been thinking about doing that in my M7 smartwatch, but finally never tried it.
If finally doesnt appear that desired model, i will try to mod it for submersing
The M7 is like the Omate and is a serious pain to get IP67, much less anything better than that. About the only sort of easy way to get past a useless IP rating is fill the entire case with RTV silicone sealant, otherwise you are looking at a complete teardown and machine work.
I've been trying with liquid neoprene. It seals perfectly, very fluid, very good handling and also cheap!
Now I need to identify all the holes of the watch and work then properly.... It should work!
List of ingress points that need to be addressed to reach a minimum of 1 ATM water resistance needed for swimming/surfing;
Case back (requires complete redesign of seals or permanent sealing of back to case)
Case back screws and screw holes (requires complete redesign of seals or permanent sealing of screws into the case)
Buttons (requires complete redesign of button seals)
Camera (requires removal and filling of camera housing of replacement of housing glass)
Speaker (requires secondary sealing layer between speaker and outside)
Mic (requires secondary sealing layer between MIC and outside)
SIM Slot Door (requires sealing of screw holes and better gasket)
Charging contacts (requires the contact assembly in the case back be remounted and sealed using marine epoxy)
Display (requires the case be redesigned or pressure injecting sealant or marine epoxy from the backside)
Antenna ports (requires the bands be removed, the ports cleaned out. The bands then need remounting and a stiff silicone sealant be injected into the ports)
MIC and speaker secondary seal will negatively affect audio performance. This is however required as MIC and speaker damage will occur otherwise.
Display sealing issues are due to the lack of a large enough lip for the display to be mounted on to provide a proper seal
*Alternative approach (Untested)
Completely seal the display,PCB, SD Card, SIM Card, and battery in one solid block of silicone or some other water resistant material. Drawback is this seriously affects usability of the buttons, camera, MIC, and speaker. This also makes SIM, SDCard and battery swapping impossible.
(I've had over two years to think about this as well as attempt to get the TS and it's clones to pass a proper 24hr immersion test at 10m/33ft/1ATM. To date, I have not succeeded.)
Uffff.... so... you need to do a master.... its a marathon!
Thanks Lokifish... i think maybe i wont try...
i95,android 4.3,ip65,dial/answer phone call, you can know more from tinydeal.but i think Lokifish is right,no smartwatch can survive after a long time in the sea.

Not exactly true. If he wanted a companion smartwatch it's not the hard at all. The issue is with him wanting to be able to do that with a standalone, or otherwise known as a watchphone. That requires far more engineering. The closest he could get to any out of the box solution would be the massive Timex Ironman ONE GPS+ and all that would give him is something similar to SMS texts and that's it. The other option is a decently made standalone then seal it completely with a SIM inside. He would lose the mic and speaker function but would at least be able to send/receive texts and know who's trying to call him. Not a pretty solution but it would work.
I think i´ve got it!

Again, ignore any IP67 rated. IP67 is 1m/3ft immersion with absolutely no moving allowed.
I agree with Lokifish - I don't think that animal exists. I just bought the No 1 A10 to evaluate it for workouts, including swimming...
http://www.gearbest.com/smart-watches/pp_286212.html
...and am looking at the D5 for "office wear". I have to admit that I'm more attracted to the idea of "one watch to rule them all" - but - I'm also looking at $56 for the A10 (I bought it when it was on sale) and $130 or so for the D5 (or similar) so for the total outlay it's a pretty compelling use case. I was an original Omate TrueSmart backer and was profoundly disappointed. After spending $360++ for a watch that *wasn't* waterproof I went the "dedicated exercise computer as a watch" route - in the form of the Polar V800. I had to wait another year or so for smart notifications to show up (for Android) and Polar *still* hasn't done some basic data integration with 3rd parties like MyFitnessPal and the like. That was another $500+ and it *still* doesn't collect accurate heart rate data in the water. So - there's that... and of course there's no *real* smartwatch functionality to speak of.
I had considered the Garmin fenix 3 - and the recent addition of on-device HRM is interesting - but I'm mostly a swimmer so I'm going to be using a chest-worn device if I go that route. But *if* I did that it would be another $600-800 plus the cost of their data-recording HRM strap. As it stands now - I'm done with dropping multiple C-notes onto one-off projects and half baked tech from "the big companies". I'm going to nickel-and-dime my way through and figure out a way to make it work with multiple devices (with a LOT of help from my friends at XDA). I have the Bragi Dash coming in (sometime in February at last count) which I'm hoping will give me accurate HRM/oximetry data while swimming - and I'll be working to merge that data with the stroke/SWOLF data I gather from the wrist-worn device.
Side note: One of the advantages of the dual-device theory just occurred to me - in that I *can* carry a portable battery-pack charger and have one on charge when the other is on my wrist. So there's some element of continuity/back-up, should something go sideways with one device or another. When my TrueSmart would go dead I felt pretty naked, when it worked and was relatively performant from a battery perspective.
Anyway, I think this class of device will take some time to sort out as the companies figure out what the market(s) will bear in terms of durability and cost.
hi to all forum members.
i'd like to purchase a new smartwatch and here is what i'd like it to do for me:
1. be able to answer a phone call shortly - not long conversations - and also via a text message
2. get and read notification from messenger, Whatsup or SMS -text messages.
3.be able to navigate while walking using Google maps and get directions on my smartwatch.
4. and last but not least see the time
all other function will be appreciated and welcomed
those i was considering were
AsusZen Watch
LG G Watch R
Samsung Gear Live
Sony Smartwatch 3
i'm using a galaxy s4 as my phone
thanks in advance
macc
As far as I know there aren't any Android Wear watches that support phone calls.
You can answer the phone on Android Wear, but you have to pick up your phone to hear and talk. I personally have the ZenWatch, but keep in mind that the second generation of these watches will be coming out later this year and early next year.

...and Biktor will be all over that update. If you can stand some flashing and subscribing to xda threads, the gear 2 neo will make a viable and extremely cheap alternative. I got mine in box for a third of the price of a wear watch.

U8 smartwatch lets you answer and continue the conversation. You can also bring up the keypad and dial and call any number.
For what they cost on eBay aud $26 I can't find anything better... Like the Asus Zenwatch but they have no speaker and you have to hop off the bike and take the phone out of your pocket to continue the call.
The Samsung Gear has the charge contacts that fail from perspiration and Samsung claim it's the owners fault....are they supposed to keep the watch in their pocket. It's like having purchased a dive watch and your warranty is void if you wear it in the water.
So the design is flawed, the choice of sweat resistant solid contacts is needed with the light weight ones that corrode should be on the charger itself.
As for most of the others smartwatches they are too expensive for what they actually are capable of and the poor battery life.

Honestly what I did was purchased a LG G Watch, refurb, from CowBoom for $45. I actually love this little thing. The only thing it WON'T do is take calls because of lack of speaker. I an answer/decline calls but I have to grab my phone to talk unless you pair a headset, which then it works great.
I went this route for 3 reasons. One because I didn't even know if I "needed or wanted" a smartwatch. I figured it would be a toy that ended up in a drawer. So I went the cheap route and picked up the cheapest Android Wear I could find. It is water proof so having notifications and music control while in the pool is very very cool. The only thing it doesn't do is actually let me take the call on the watch itself from the lack of speaker. The second reason I went that route was because supposedly the next round of Android Wear SmartWatches will support speakers. I suspect the Moto 360 2 and others will have this. The third reason is that I believe all current smartwatches have the same innerds anyway. I don't need to spend $200 more just for a round display.
Having used Android Wear for about a month. I can honestly say most of the features I thought I "needed" aren't really needed. Here is my list of "wants/needs" for my next watch I buy in round 2:
Needs
1. Water Resistance (absolute must since my primary use is in the pool)
2. Speaker for taking quick voice calls
3. Magnetic or Qi Wireless Charging. Not having a decent Charger connection is annoying. The LG G Watch has a magnetic dock. Super awesome.
Wants:
1. AMOLED screen (the LCD is fine, but the AMOLED seems it would be better for battery and usage)
2. Wireless (for extended range and direct app access)
3. Sky is the limit!
I know they are the underdog around here, but I thought I would point some things out. All things being equal, the Sony swr3 is my choice.
Why,
Needs:
waterproof
Easy to read in direct sunlight
Long battery life (all things being equal)
Not too expensive
Comfortable
Wants
Stand alone gps
WiFi
Nfc
Magnetic charging
All things being equal, this watch checked all the boxes save for wireless charging.
However, things are rarely equal and it seems the past few updates have been buggy as far as battery drain. So, the battery life is now the same as all the other watches (a bit more than a day when I reboot it preventing the drain), and when it drains quickly, it overheats. Other than that, it is amazing.

Yea I looked at the Sony. The 1 downfall I think with Sony is that it uses special wrist straps vs standard 22mm like the others do, so you are kinda stuck wearing a Sony strap.
Regardless I won't buy another smartwatch until I can use it as a speakerphone.
Yeah, they do make a universal band adapter, but it seems expensive, and you can only buy them on eBay. As for the speakerphone, you can use bluetooth with it (or your phone) so you could do speakerphone that way theoretically.

That's a great summary and I am sure would suit most but if the next generation ups the prices again.. I doubt if I will head down that path.
If you need all those things including gps on board and water proof you can get all those features on a Chinese smart watch for a bit over $110 but not really a working warranty process. But as I explained earlier the big manufacturers duck when they can and want over $170 to bring your very expensive smart watch back-to life..
Me.. I will just buy another which will be next generation as well.
Thanks for your list though..

The Sony watch is around 170 on Amazon. And since they messed my order up, they took about 50 dollars off. I feel that is a reasonable price for the tech considering it was cheaper than most exercise trackers which really was my purpose in looking at a smart watch.

I don't really need an onboard GPS or separate SIM. And I actually have a Chinese review unit and just not impressed. It does what it needs to do, but the navigation is clunky and overall just performs like a chinese product. It seems rushed and not well planned. I think I will be sticking to Android Wear. I really like how the devices can install Android Apps.
The Gear S looks amazing, but requires a Samsung phone.
I just bought cheap now to get into it and KNOW what features I really like, want, or need. That way when the new devices come out, I can buy one that fits me. The lack of a speaker is really sad. My chinese smartwatch has a speaker and it is awesome. In fact my CoWorker today, his Samsung S5's display just died. Phone still works but no LCD. His chinese Samsung Gear knockoff smartwatch still connects and he is able to make and receive phone calls and get all of his notifications. His watch is really his saving grace today.

Strange you mention the gear knock off, for the money will be my choice it looks good and doesn't matter too much if it only lasts a year or two.. if the charging terminals on the watch are protected from corrosion it will overcome one of the major issues with the gear 2.
I will order one next month as I will be away. I will report back here as well.. The prices at gear best seem fair.

The knockoff Gear does look good. Playing around with the mediatek software of the Gear, it is meh. Not as nice as the Android Wear with the gestures and ambient mode and play store app options... but does look good and works great. I am not sure it is waterproof but the charger clips on the back. I really like the magnetic LG G Watch charger.
My coworker has his gear watch for about a week and the screen is already shattered. I assume the knockoffs do not use gorilla glass or equivalent. Just a reminder.
Yes correct they are not waterproof. Splash proof probably..

Waterproof is a must. I use mine for the pool all the time. Even if I dont wear the watch, it is nice to have handy knowing the G Watch is waterproof.
Whats the best MTK2502 Smartwatch to get now?
Just looking at gearbest there a quite a lot of options. I realize that functionally speaking the watches are baaasically the same, but there are variances in stuff like how many watch faces and apps you can install, the quality of the screen, microphone, and speaker, and the battery life. Some watches even have features like tilt to take and other gesture based controls.
Are the No.1 round watches all basically the same internally? G3, G6, G8, S9
What about other round watches like the ZeBlaze Classic, A11, DM88, etc?
Finally what about the ZeBlaze Cosmo, is it custom face compatible? It has a weird aspect ratio compared to other square watches like the U11c, M2, W08, and GV68.
I've got five MTK2502 smartwatches: this is my chart
Hi! As I wrote, I've got 5 of these smartwatches and I wanted to share my experience with a top chart.
5. place: No.1 G7
Really nice the idea to make the watch detatchable, but it's very easy to fall down. The battery life is ridiculous: about 6 hours. Maybe my watch is faulty... Nice soft touch buttons, average screen. Never tried it with a sim card. It has also a micro SD slot. Not waterproof obviously.
4. place: Oplayer SW1605H BLE
I found this on GearBest at the incredible price of 0.90€: I bought five, one for me and the others for my friends. Works pretty good, same way as the others. Average screen, good battery life: more than 2 days. It is sweatproof, so you can do sport with it, but it's really too big, it looks terrible on a small wrist.
3. place: No.1 G6 (metal strap)
Really goodlooking! Average screen but round is prettier. Not waterproof so don't choose the silicone strap version, it doesn't make sense. About one day of battery life.
2. place: Haier Iron
One of the best, but not perfect. The screen is the brightest, and the battery life is the longest: almost three days of normal usage. Unfortunately it's not waterproof: I almost broke it by wearing it while running. The strap looks cheap, but it's interchangable: I mounted a nice metal strap and now the look is amazing! The pre-installed watchfaces are the only decent I found in these watches.
1. place: Aiwatch C5
More expensive than the others, but there's a reason. Amazing look and bright screen. Sim card (never tried), barometer that works pretty good for the altitude, and UV sensor pretty useless. It has a little gear on the side that works for changing watchface, navigate the menu and control the volume during the calls: nice! Really waterproof: I never tried to put it in the water but it should resist. Battery life ok: one day and a half of normal usage. Unfortunately the strap is not interchangable.
All these watches have heart rate monitor, stepmeter, sedentary reminder and sleep monitor. I use all these five with the Fundo Smart Device app, and with that I can install new watchfaces on all of them. But if you're here, you will probably know it already...
I hope I've been helpful!
Would have a look at the >>>> A8S on Aliexpress <<<< , it seems to have sim, sd card, 128/32 MB .
As always be carefull when choosing chinese watches, alltough alixpress does get you your money back in case of fraud, it can be a waste of time.
