Hello,
My HD is less than 24h old. I used carry pouch to protect it. And here I get them, the first scratches. I have no f*cking idea where did I get them from... They'r below the buttons.
Surfing russian HD forums I noticed that some people have the same issue. Guys, check your HD in that place for any scratches I think this is bad paint quality, and it really really sux!
I attached the photos
P.S. - do you know if it is possible to buy that scratchable frame in future and replace?
arff bad news,
the garantie is effective?
change the hd
I have 15 days satisfait or rembourser
Mine still looks like new after couple weeks of intensive use. I only use the pouch when going to work, or from work to home. But most of the time its in my pocket without it. Maybe the build quality alters, what model do u have? Mine is euro-version.
Same problem
Paint is scratched near usb connector area as well as on top of the device
I had it for 3 weeks now and it seems old.
I'd like to protect it but I couldn't find anything on the Internet.
Does anyone know where to buy a protection case for Blackstone ?
Protect it and forget about scratches
I did buy a protector called clear coat http://www.clear-coat.com/product.php?productid=508&cat=0&page=1
You'll never get any scratch. It is available for the HD!

Hi
is there a pre applied screen protector on the xperia play? Isit removable ?
Because i m lookin at used one right now in my hand and it has small scratch. But i almost see a screen protector too. Bu i coud be wrong
Yes its there, ALL Xperia phones since x10 have it. It scratches very easily but will prevent the glass from cracking from a fall.
I ripped mine off as soon as I got in my car. Screen feels so smooth and so much nicer with it off, not all plastic and junky.
With my x10 I ripped it off the day I bought it, and it never ever got a scratch.
I bet the screen is perfect I say take a chance and buy it!

I just lifted a corner with a needle very very carefully to the point where I could grip in and start pulling straight down and away from the phone. It will be tough but just keep going and it should just peel right off.

Some Xperia Play's come with an 8gb sd card, some come with 16gb.
I believe the 8gb ones do not have the screen protector fitted, and the 16 gb ones do.
Mine came with 16 gb and a screen protector fitted. Maybe someone with an 8gb version could clarify that they didn't get one fitted?
Factory fitted screen protectors rock. No air bubbles, no dust, just a pure crisp clean fit.
I would advise leaving it on. You will never get it as good as they can.

i cant figure it out. its an 8gb xperia. which is fine and enough for me. but i cant tell if thats a screen protector or the screen looks like it has a screen protector. i am almost positive it has a screen protector but i couldnt take out with my nails. usually i am able to with any screen protector i apply . but this one i cant even move it.
so either that its super hard to get out. or there is no screen protector but the screen it self has some sort of a layer that looks like a screen protector

A) Yes the 8gb devices have the film...its not a screen protector its a FILM or a "shatter proof sheet". Read anything about it being scratch resistant? NO
B) It does NOT rock it makes the device feel cheap, and it does NOT protect against scratches, it picks many more up.
C) Its nice you would leave it on, but for the rest of us that dont want our device cheapened by that plastic JUNK on our screens, we will remove it. Thanks.
Its a STANDARD that SE apply to ALL their phones from the Xperia x10 up. Every device I have seen from SE (here in Ontario, Canada) has had one...they are annoying and I wish SE would stop using them.

^There is your answer...thats exactly what it is. Its hard to get started to remove it, and it looks like a screen protector but its not.
Yeah the Arc has it too, it's driving people crazy. Officially it's listed as "Shatter proof sheet on scratch-resistant mineral glass".
People have reported success removing it carefully with an x-acto blade as well.
I left mine on and put another thin protector on top immediately after buying it, but I am a total klutz with my phones sometimes so I probably need the extra shatter-proof power
I need more people to confirm it is removable, maybe a video.?

What, you don't take my word for it? Kidding but seriously...
I would have to be a pretty twisted horrible human being to WANT people to wreck their phones, I can promise that its A) Removable and B) Its better to do so.
I bet the light sensor would work better too!
I have been here for awhile, I'm no troll man. I will tell you what, when I get my Play I will record the whole process and throw it up on my youtube "gunstar1981" search me, I have a bunch of PS3 and 360 repair videos and stuff if you want, along with a Captivate review.
I removed it on my x10, and I will be damn sure to remove it on my Play or Arc (still STILL deciding : / )

No problem man.
Atleast with it off you have hardened Mineral Glass. I know other harder minerals like sand and such can scratch the screen but at that point keys should not. It has to be a mineral harder than the Glass to scratch it. With that stupid layer, anything seems to scratch it, even your finger nail could : /
I think I am going with the play though, I love the old school games. I just hope that the Rogers one comes with the pouch because I want to remove the film and NOT use a screen protector.

That kinda sucks. I remember when the x10 launched, every video unboxing showed a leather case so when I bought mine (rogers, Cobourg Ontario Canada) it came with next to nothing as well...I wonder why they do that here : /

If you have your screen scratch you might want to remove your shatter guard if you havent already. Its a stock fitted film on the front that is like a screen protector but it keeps the glass from flying around when you crack your screen. Sadly it scratches easy. Once you remove it, its almost like a brand new screen!

P.S.: I know this is posted in acessories its just that no one really looks there.
EDIT: THIS MAY ACTUALLY MAKE YOUR SCREEN VULNERABLE. I RECENTLY GAD MINE CRACK AFTER THIS AND IT WAS FROM LEANING LIGHTLY AGAINST A CHAIR! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Thanks for this! I have always been wondering if there was actually a screen protector preinstalled or not. Now this will settle my small arguments with my friends and family. :cyclops:

I bought a screen protector, and didn't manage to install it.
I was getting worried with the few scratches in the screen, but reading this relieved me a lot!
Thank you so much, JunDavis!
yeah , first i bought my XP , i put the screen protectors as well . after a few month the screen protector becomes thinner at the center of the screen and need to be change and i was thinking like just f**k it and go without a screen protector . and now the glass has many scratches and i feel like i want to change to a new glass and put the screen protector . after checking this thread now i noticed that there is one more layer on top of that glass and i was like thanks god and now i dont have to worry about changing screen protectors again . and sony did a good job about the screen protectors pre installed because it fits the screen too perfectly until it is hardly to notice them .

thank didn't no that though i would have to buy a new screen but nope just replace screen protector
I tried many times to remove the protector but couldn't :crying:

I removed it as soon as I got the phone back in 2011, I will likely do the same when my Xperia Z arrives, replacing my Galaxy S3 (You have no idea how bad CM10.1 performance is on that Exynos, and Touchwiz is horrible) I love Sony's latest UI, its so stock-like its amazing, yet it looks better than Stock!
I bet most of you will agree with this but Sony phones are underrated, Samsung are overrated...

That because Samsung does not share its kernels sources = hard on developers to develop ROMs or kernels
And because of that CM team is not going to develop a CM ROM for GS 4
Guys if i remove the factory shatter guard i will have more brightness on xplay screen????
Lol, wow
When I got my Xplay, I wondered why I didnt have any protectors in the package (or I lost it) like my sister's Neo had.
I was thinking about buying a screen protector but it seems that I dont need to ^..^ thank you.
Also, if Im not reading that post totaly wrong, it does appear that XPlays screen does become slightly brighter if you remove this stock protector.

Does anyone know how to remove the front glass of the Z1 screen as mine has cracked. I can see that a replacement front glass can be bought for around £35 on ebay.
Ive replaced iphone front screens simply by following youtube vids. However, I cannot find any for the Z1. Is the Z1 screen glued on like the Z or is it a different construction.
Can anyone point me in the direction to a guide.
Thanks

It's not so easy like SE X1 or Atrix , but not so hard too.
But lack of heater may be a problem
What temperature should be to peel it off?

Just use a hairdryer? There is no perfect temperature, just heat it up. This may help... it's similar but remember this video is the Xperia Z, not the Z1.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfXaze8AS2o
Be careful with the videos on youtube for a screen replacement. Many of them was made with already opened devices, that its why the screens seems come out very easily but for real is not that simple. I did this to my HTC and I cry nights and days. Also forget the waterproof feature after doing this.
To get the waterproof feature back you need a press. Somebody had posted sony service docs here a month or so back.
The hardest bit i think will be the sealing part, changing the glass, provided you have prior experience won't be too difficult.
I've put together a Google forms survey to collect some objective breakage data: Sony Xperia Z3 / Z3 Compact - Glass Survey
Please take some time to complete the survey one time whether you've experienced a breakage or not, it's important to have a complete set of data. You will be able to view the survey results after submitting the form.
Please take the survey a 2nd time ONLY if you have previously completed it to report no damage but now have a damaged screen or back glass and wish to report it. Make sure to properly check Question 2 to indicate a re-take.

Though it would've been useful to include some additional questions, such as the manufacturing week and year, and the part of the serial number that indicates the manufacturing batch.

Behind the SIM flap is a plastic information sheet that can be pulled out. The production week and year, for example, are indicated by something like "14W38" (that's what's on mine) which means that my unit was manufactured in the 38th week of 2014. I'm not sure about the serial number though. I just looked and there's no immediate "S/N" indication. However there is a big number after the "CE" sign, for me it says "CE 0682". Maybe that is the number of the production batch?

Very informative, thank you.
Just know, if you go looking for something, you can find it.
This phone is still new, so for anyone thinking of getting it, don't let the mass post on glass cracks and drm / camera conversation put you off. This phone is big in the game.
At the time of posting, its a resounding majority "No" to broken glass (small sample)
One day into the survey and we have 51 responses. I find the most interesting data to be that 65% do not use a screen protector and 73% do not use a case.

The sample size is still small, but 6% for front glass, 9% for back glass.
There is one response where both front and back glass cracked.
In all cases no screen protector or case was in use, with the exception of one cracked back glass while using a TPU case.
There's a link to results in the OP.
It would be nice to get several hundred responses for a more accurate picture.

Percentages are pretty much useless here because naturally, mainly people with issues come and participate here in the first place. Only Sony or some kind of independent media could give a clue on those percentages.

Exactly.
Edit: but even if only those with glass issues report at least that does give some idea of the number of users affected.
On the Sony Mobile support forum, there is a post from a person whose Z3C's glass cracked while the phone was laying on a table and playing music. Since I did notice that especially the rear glass vibrates very heavily at higher volumes, I'm wondering if those vibrations could induce cracking in some cases?
How could you think that simply the vibrations generated by the (however minuscule) speakers could crack a sheet of glass, let alone Gorilla/Dragontrail glass? Just check some stress tests to see what kind of forces these types of glass can withstand.
The same strange reports about glass cracking on its own appeared for the LG Optimus G and LG Nexus 4 right after launch and then nothing.

The rear is not Gorilla Glass nor Dragontrail.
The glass sheets in said stress test videos are usually much thicker than those used on phones.
Strong vibrations can cause a sheet of glass to crack, especially if the glass has a production fault.

The vibrations generated by the very small speakers are not exactly what I would call "strong", much less glass-cracking strong!

There is no doubt that the rear uses different glass than the front, since the rear is way more prone to scratching than the front.
The vibrations at high volume are pretty strong in this phone, don't forget you've got two of those speakers. In case of (like I said) faulty glass, they may even be harmful to the glass.
dropped z3c on cement and.....
.....no damage. I watched my 1 day old z3c slide off a laundry pile in my basement onto the cement floor (about 5 foot drop) and no cracks or noticable damage.
However, i just took my xperia z2 out of its protective case to sell it and noticed a crack all the way across the back glass. Ive never dropped that phone and its always been in a high quality case. Im thinking the z2 may uave cracked trying to pry it out of the protective case (which fit very tight).
Just my two cents.
