Removing marks from HTC One - One (M7) General

So i finally dropped my phone today, i was lucky, barely had any marks besides one scuff in the top left corner. Its a small mark, and basically it has the same texture as the polished bezel around the phone.
It got me thinking, that theres alot of people that probably dont have cases for their HTC One (with good reason), and they might come across a day where it were to accidentally fall, and probably leave a decent mark on the corners or the back of the phone.
So this thread is to give any suggestions, ideas, or thoughts on how to remove these marks. I know its an aluminum body, and itll be hard to erase marks caused by impact, but theres still going to be ways to remove marks or atleast reduce them considerably.
Ill get started with one suggestion, using sandpaper to clean the bezel around the phone. Its been done on the iphone 5, to remove the scuffs that appear on the bezel. Sandpaper can be used to remove those marks and leave a shiny texture on the bezel, which is already the case for the One, so this could be useful.
Video for cleaning the phone with sandpaper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=g92_17ZtH9Y
Leave your suggestions!

i dropped my One too and got a scuff on the bezel..no dented luckily.. i tried to use the Radtech Bezel Blaster and tried to sand off that scuff..
i think it makes the bezel area less shiny/metallic..so i just leave it in the end..what are your thoughts? have you tried anything?

Proceed with that and just apply a coating in it after. There's alot of liquid coating products online to solve that issue + it protects the phone.

It's a £500 phone, you don't want to use a case to protect it but you're happy to use sandpaper on it lol ... I know it's a nice phone aesthetically but I don't want to mark, scratch or dent my One so I use an ultra clear hard case that adds no bulk to the phone but protects it. I appreciate that sometimes s*it happens and you drop/knock your phone but I know for a fact that if that ever happened to my phone I certainly wouldn't be sanding it down or applying "liquid coatings" lol
T-Cut is very good for removing scratches from metal but it does dull the finish a little and I can't vouch for it on a phone as I'd rather live with the scuffs 'N' scrapes.

WTF does an app have to do with removing scratches from a phone .. You've made 9 posts and every one is the same, none of which are relevant to the topic ... You should be chained and beaten for spamming !!!

Coming from the Oppo Find 5, this phone is very slim and feels great. I have thoughts about keeping it without a case and just rocking it like that, specially since it's made of aluminium. But I have seen too many bare iPhone 5s without cases that are all chipped up so I went for a nice looking cade that preserved some of the phone beauty while still protecting it, the poetic atmosphere grey clear. Now back to topic, no idea how to remove the scratch besides putting a case on it to hide it

I've the silver One, considered a case but I don't generally like using them. Ruining the looks and feel of the handset ... especially one as nice as the One :victory:
I've had no drops yet, though have thought about using Mantis scratch removal pens, or something similar.
They sold in The Range, JML, shops like that for a few quid.
They aimed at scratches is cars, light scratches to the bodywork.
Thinking they might work their magic on the aluminum shell of the One too?
I've also thought about the thin white bezel that runs around the One, I think this will eventually get dirty and dull grey looking.
Not sure what would be best for cleaning that up

... If I was to get a case, I quite like the look of this Poetic Atmosphere one, or the Supcase Premium Hybrid case.
How's the IR work though when using the TV Remote app on your Atmosphere?
Still work well?
Looking at some pics of it I see it has a cover over the power button/IR ... I can't lose my IR powers

be careful with the white bezel, it stains really easily. if you were to clean it (which i dont suggest unless its REALLY dirty), use a micro fiber cloth with some rubbing alcohol or those magic erasers, both work really well. But be careful not to get anything on the beats logo, i cleaned my phone yesterday and the logo started fading, it was really annoying and i eventually took it off with nailpolish remover, i liked the logo, but it looks fine with it gone aswell.
Back on topic, ye the mark i got from dropping the phone left a polished scratch that looks just like the bezel, a pics attached, anyone know how to make that return to the original matte texture? Its a really small scratch so im hoping a little fixing could get rid of it.
The pic makes it look like the mark is black, but its really not, its shiny just like the bezel of the phone.

when i had my iphone 4s, i had it in a brick case. it was in mint condition for a year and a half till i gave it to sprint and traded in for an htc one. i spent that whole time, holding a brick instead of a sleek phone, for what? so it could look nice even though i couldnt see it? its not like i sold it on craigslist for top dollar cause it looked brand new. i traded in.
so, i now dont care if i have a small scuff on edges of my htc one. its gonna happen. and i dont notice it when im looking at the screen viewing a webpage or text. theres no point at all in caring so much. i couldnt imagine spending money on products to get a 0.3mm mark off my phone.
to each their own though

wise words, exactly why i dont have a case. But i still care about getting small scuffs or scratches. Its not for resale value but because i like looking at the phone alot, and theres just that feeling you get knowing your phone is in mint condition even after months of having it.

The case was redesigned. It has an opening on the power, not covering it because of the ir blaster. I like the case. Adds some protection while trying to keep the sexyy look of the phone

"fixing" any damage to the aluminum casing of the M7 is the same as with any other clear anodized aluminum: you can use fine and ultra-fine scotch brite pads (grey and white, respectively) to blend the finish back in to the glass-bead finish, if there is raised surface/dent caused from the damage then it needs to be cut down with a fine needle file or scraper prior to the scotch brite. it's best not to remove material if possible since it exposes the raw aluminum, but done properly it can be blended very well and once oxidized it will look fine. If you're a real expert with finishing you could bag the phone with a taped off exposure of the damaged spot, and glass-bead blast the spot followed by brightening with the pads... and produce a semi-raw finish almost identical to the stock finish of the M7... I know the finish very well as I've done a lot of aluminum parts in that finish (both semi-raw and anodized).

I will never drop it.
My PRECIOUS

Had the double dip flip case and a bit of crap got under it, tiny little pieces of something, they ended up leaving little black marks up the top of the phone, can't remove them and even though they're barely noticeable, they seriously p*ss me off.
Haven't looked into a method for brushing them out but i think sandpaper / glass paper, would do more harm than good.

Had the same thing happen to me on the front speaker grills. Noticeable at certain angles. The thing is HTC knows about this but they don't have the decency to recall the casing. Really pissed me off as well. So a warning to others: STAY AWAY from double dip case. It damages, not protects, the phone.

My feeling exactly. This phone is too pretty to hide under a cover. I have a big smile on my face every time I pick up my phone. I don't think I'll be able to say that of it's in a case. Instead of buying a cover for it, I bought insurance. This way I don't have to worry about it.
oh and you really should of sell your iPhone on cl if it's in that good of condition.

Thanks for this tip. Somehow the white bezel around the back got stained on my One.. most likely due to my tpu case. Gonna try cleaning it off with some rubbing alcohol and a microfibre cloth.

I use full body Xtreme guard. Granted, it does not offer much (if any) protection from dropping the phone but it does offer the protection from regular nicks from keeping the phone in the pocket or daily use situations. It still gives the 'naked' phone appearance/feel while protecting the screen and the back of the phone. If you add a simple bumper case (along with Xtreme guard), you can have a decent protection without adding much bulk. Just my two cent. Thanks

My One is on order, but it looks like, from the above image, that the metal back might need protecting. I don't use cases.
Looks like a skin might be needed.
Anybody have scratches on it?

I have the case. Not super crazy about it, but better than the tablet being it's naked slippery self. Tight fit getting it on or off, but still slips in the case just a tiny bit in use. The slipping causes things like the front facing web cam will not be aligned it its port.
The actual opening to get the tablet inside is at the bottom of the case when the cover is open in "stand mode" so that can allow the above mentioned slipping also.
The stand function is passable, but I think the angle it creates is a bit too shallow and causes the screen to catch glare from overhead lights. I would like if it stood the tablet a little more upright to escape that glare.
I've seen a very similar case for the iPad series, so we are not alone.
So, not perfect, but better than nothing.
isn't it the same thing like the official ipad 1 case last year

Agreed. I kinda like mine but would really prefer a slim well fitting leather folio. One nice feature of the case is it doesn't weigh much, so your tablet still feels very light in your hand, which is never the situation with a leather case.
The stand angle is definitely crap though - if I set it on my desk at work it invariably reflects the overhead lights into my eyes. The ability to adjust it even slightly would make that easier.
And agreed - the tablet sure moves around inside the case a lot considering how tight it fits.
the stand position is actually pretty nice for me. i use it at my desk at home (with lamp light, no overhead) so thats probably why i like it. but the only thing i dont like is the cheaply velcro used (seems to undo to easily, i would prefer magnets like a cell phone case) and the slipping out during use. other than that i like it
I've got one of these too, and I noticed that if the slightest bit of anything gets on it, it looks ugly. It was on a table when a bottle of soda got spilled, only a few drops hit it, and you can see exactly where those drops hit it at.
As far as the case goes, it would be a lot better if the flap was magnetic, and if there was something for it to catch on on the back when it's flat. It's obnoxious to have to deal with putting it into the stand shape when you're just holding it to check your e-mail.

At least the case did its job and protected the tablet from your soda damage. Also, the case cleans pretty easily with a damp cloth.

I have had the Acer case for a couple of weeks. It feels like wetsuit material. but does the job, and it is easy to wipe any dirt off it. I did cut a inverted 'V' so that the microphone was not obstructed.
All the ports are easy to get to but, nevertheless, exposed. So, I wanted a sleeve that I could slip the tablet into when placing it in my briefcase, and I found the attached at a store that sells Japanese goods (the case is actually from China.) See attached photo.
This fits the A500 in the Acer case very nicely, and good enough to take into a meeting.
The cost of the case: $1.50.
ps. The store is Daiso Japan and the item is Plastic Case (B5) 497 990 9845 486. Nothing unique about it and I am sure you can find similar ones around from other stores.
I bought this case and am not too thrilled about it. I already have an Arkon stand so the built-in stand function is kind of useless, and really just makes that side of the cover really flimsy. The case attracts too much "stuff" and degrades the look of the product and it doesnt fit like a glove as you'd think. I also dont like how it doesnt cover up the bottom of the A500 at all, nor the fact that if you dont use the stand fuction, the tablet has a tendency to fall out of the case, since its on "backwards."
that... and the smell... ugh.
Amazon has it on sale today for 29 bucks
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Iconia-A...14JA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1307123390&sr=8-2
second that on the smell i bought a 10 inch netbook bag today to replace the case
I have the official case and am about to ditch it for a folio style from ebay.
Not only does it look tatty when it is on, it's almost impossible to clean the screen with it on, as all the dust etc collects in the corners, and constant removal and replacement has stretched the opening so I now have the dreaded 'slide' effect.
In addition to this, obviously something abrasive has got between the screen and the case (still waiting for my screen protector to arrive) and put a tiny gouge in the screen on the black bezel near the docking connector - rather knocking on the head the assertion that this is covered in 'Gorilla Glass'.
And lets be honest, the Iconia is a beautiful looking bit of kit, and putting it in the official case makes it look rubbish.
In all, 30 quid wasted!
This case is pretty much garbage. I've had it as long as it's been out and here's the low-down...
When you get it, it reeks. I thought that the shipment of cases was accidentally dropped in a puddle of gasoline. But it turned out that was just from the material the case was made of. It did go away eventually though. It took about 30-40 days but now my case is reek-free.
The second problem was the slip issue. The tab slides down at about 3-4mm, which may not seem like a lot, but it's actually the perfect annoying amount. It causes the front camera to be blocked by the case itself, the speakers to not line up correctly, the bottom part of the front side of the case comes close to blocking you from using the task bar buttons efficiently, and the ambient light sensor is blocked. Some members on here have recommended double sided tape, but don't waste your time. It just slows the slipping down and it doesn't stick to well to the case material. Now I have an entire roll of Scotch double-sided tape that I will never use. However, I have found great success with heavy duty Velcro. I bought a pack with two strips from Staples and used half of one of the strips, cut into 2 and popped them on either side of the Acer logo on the back of the unit. It holds okay with the case material, creates just enough wedge pressure in the back, while allowing you to take the tablet out of the case if you really want to. My front camera and taskbar buttons have not been blocked at all since implementing this Velcro. One user here mentioned that they did some sewing and sewed the unit into the case at the opening and that works well. If my Velcro doesn't work as a more subtle solution long-term, I may go in that direction. I can't help but wonder if the case was made upside-down, would we have the slip problems at all (the opening is at the bottom when you hold it naturally).
The best thing about this case, though (and why I keep bothering to attempt to fix it) is that I love its stand features. The stand on the back is nice, and frankly, better than some of those ugly alternative bulky stands out there. I can stand it up on the table while sitting and eating, or flip it upside down and use the slighter stand to ramp it up just enough while laying down in bed.

I bought this case a while back and have not had any problems with it. It's easy to clean with a damp cloth, and protects my tablet. I have not had any issues with my tablet slipping yet. The stand also seems to be stable enough for me. The one thing I did do though was remove the Velcro and glue two tiny rare earth magnets in their place. Now the case snaps shut and stays shut. I wish I could add one more magnet to keep the cover open when holding the tablet.

Since implementing the Velcro solution mentioned in my previous post, no interference from slipping! Recommend!
Yeah I might try the Velcro if I start having problems with it slipping.

[Q] otterbox for note 3

****Sorry mods. I thought I was in the 'Accessories' forum when I posted. Can this be moved?****
The Otterbox for Note 3 is starting to pop up on the search engines. This is similar to a couple other sites that are advertising to dealers (not for the general public).
Will previous Note 2 Otterbox owners take a look at the design of the Note 3 case to see if the design changes are an improvement? I am most interested in the design around the home button.
I am a new user and I am not authorized to post links yet in my threads.

OtterBox cases are built like a brick Sh!t house, solid as all get out, but on a phone this big, they add way too much bulk for my taste.
Always hated the amount of bulk the otterbox brought to the table. I can understand if your in Construction or another physically demanding job like that. But for my use a normal size case will do just perfect.
I don't like the Otterbox cases at all. Its great they offer such good protection, but they look horrible.

An OtterBox is a must for as I do home inspections and my report software has an app that allows me to use my phone in the field. I had an OtterBox on my GNex, RAZR MAXX HD and my Note 2 ... The one for the N2 was by far the worst! I'm hoping they make some drastic improvements on the Note 3 version!
This is typically a slow time of year for me, so hopefully I can wait for some reviews before I buy my OtterBox ... Or have time to search for a similar alternative if the reviews are not so great.
BTW- I agree with the post above ... Not a fan of the look/bulk OtterBox adds! It's by no means my "24 hour case"! As soon as the inspection is over I rip it off for a TPU case or something LOL.

well my only real complaint with the Defender on my Note 2 was the screen protector, mainly because of the hole for the home button (I removed it for that reason) and that case looks to solve that with a nice redesign
I'm a big fan of these cases... yes I know they are very big and ontop of a N3 that's a lot but for me its worth it
The only thing I wish they would address is the notification light as it is hard to see from its hole
I do wish they would bring the defender out in something other than white or black though

In your line of work I would say absolutely on the Otterbox Defender with the holster. Their integrated screen protectors suck though so you might want to pop it out and use something like Spigen's Glas.tR Slim on it.

Couldn't agree more. Had the Fantom glass protector on my gnex and after a year and a half still functioned perfect. When it was removed the gnex screen underneath was flawless. Also I'm a welder so I am very rough on my phones. Xgearlive has pre orders for the senteniel protector for the note 3, should be shipping out Nov 18th. Get one of those and remove the crappy Otterbox one and you're golden.
Has anyone got theirs yet?

Anyways, I was very surprised with how thin and flimsy the materials were.
The rubber is like the newer style cases that Otterbox has been making since the S3, so its a little more ridgid and not as soft as say the Razr and GalaxyNexus defenders. The plastics are very thin and have a lot of flex to them. There are also those little 1/4in tabs all the way around the case that snap together and hold the front to the back. You know, those lil bastards that eat your fingernail to the quick when you have to pry under them to get the case open. Hated when Otterbox went to that design.
The screen protector is just as bad as the previous defenders, and possibly more so. It has lots of rainbow effect and bubbles/impurities in the protector that make it look terrible. It might just be more noticeable because of the larger surface area. Comparing it to my Droid X, RAZR Maxx, Galaxy Nexus and S3 defender cases, it seems not as fine grainy (matte finish) bit rather more glossy and sticky. The Spen does not glide effortlessly across the surface as well as it does on the screen protector that came on the phone.
Next problem is the rubber shell. The cut out around the home button was not well thought out. The bottom center of the rubber is VERY floppy and is a pain to install on the case. I am woried that with the home button cut out and the cut out for the charging port will stretch out in a very short time. Or even worse, the thin area from the front cut out to the back cut out will tear when trying to remove the rubber. If you look at a picture of this case from the front view, all the material holding the front to rear cut outs is the width of about 4mm. Just where the home button begins to go up into the cut out area, that edge around the base of the rubber (part rolled over the edges of the hard plastic case underneath) is all that is holding both flaps together.
Not only that, but the cut out for the home button simply pops in that area made for it with 2 tiny lil nubs on the rubber part to keep it in place. The rubber actually goes pretty far in in that recess for the home button. I am afraid that in a short time between use and stretching the usb port opening from charging will make the home button flap pop out. What about dirt and stuff getting in around that home button flap? I mean COME ON OTTERBOX! You know when the users finger pushes down on thd home key, anything around that cut out is going right in the case.
With all that said, the case does feel fairly ridgid once installed on the phone. Partly due to the phone providing support to the case. I do not feel that the Note 3 Defender is as good a product as the past Defender cases I have owned (count 4 previous models).
Next is the belt clip. Very thin, VERY FLIMSY. The case snaps so hard into the clip, it sometimes takes 2 hands. And almost absolutely take 2 hands to get the damn thing off the belt clip. Part of that I attribute to the flimsy design of the clip. It flexes when you try to push the tab to remove the case. Piss poor design.
I will say this... for an Defender case it is very thin and light. I assume the thin/cheap build of the case was to cut down on the bulk added to an already very large phone. I can allow for that, but there are too many errors in design that could have been made better with some thinking.
However, there is absolutely no reason at all for the piece of crap belt clip.
Sorry if I was too vulgar with my descriptions. I just wanted to get the point across to anyone considering this case. Definitely look at it in a store before buying one.
Good luck
@fire3element - thanks for taking the time to write up your thoughts! After reading your review I'm glad I didn't wait on the Defender and instead went with the Ballistic SG Maxx! I was unhappy with the Defender for my Note 2 and it appears that disappointment continues with the Defender Note series ...

Did they at least get rid of the air gap between the screen protector and screen? The note 2 had that problem which is why i didn't get it

To be honest, i'm not really sure. I still have the screen protector that came on the phone with it in the defender. There does not appear to be a gap though.
For anyone still on the fence about buying a case, wait till the end of next week. (11/22). Bastex Wireless on Amazon will have the ZeroLemon Note3 battery and rugged case available for sale. The ZeroLemon Rugged case is pretty decent quality (friend bought the Note2 one) and has a removable back plate to change out batteries without removing the plastic shell.
Take a look at this link for the Note 2 version rugged case: http://www.amazon.com/Warranty-Zero...d=1384700377&sr=8-3&keywords=zerolemon+note+2
And this is the link is for the actual ZeroLemon Note 2 battery: http://www.amazon.com/warranty-Zero...d=1384700452&sr=8-1&keywords=zerolemon+note+2
For the same price of an Otterbox Defender, you are getting a decent rugged case that will allow for almost any battery configuration, and a true 3x capacity battery. I would suggest getting the stand alone battery charger so when the ZL battery dies you can take it out and pop in your charged stock battery.
FWIW I got an UAG case for my Note3 and so far really like it. http://www.urbanarmorgear.com/products/aero-glxn3
On edit: That Ballistic SG Maxx does look really good also! Is the outer part a grippy silicon type material?
As far as I know, the official otterbox for the N3 isn't released till Nov 22nd. All others if released already should be knockoffs, I could be wrong

I can assure you that the Otterbox Defender i got from RadioShack is legit.

Sanded, polished, etched the back case of my phone.

THE STORY:
Since I bought this phone I wanted to do something to the back cover, I just wasn't sure what. Plus I wasn't really set on the idea of doing something to risk damaging a perfectly good (and new at the time) phone. That was until about 2 months ago when I managed to put a small hairline crack in the digitizer. Since the phone was no longer undamaged, yet still 100% functional, I figured why the hell not customize it.
I read awhile ago on XDA about some users discussing what the phone would look like with a polished look but no one was willing to take the plunge. This seemed like a good/fun project now that I didn't care if I screwed it up.
First I used 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper to remove the anodization. While this method was working, it was painstakingly slow to get to bare metal. The interesting thing about 1000 grit though, it doesn't remove the anodizing right away yet takes out a lot of the minor blemishes due to everyday use. This could in turn be used carefully to remove any dings you have without removing the anodizing. In this photo it is hard to see, but the top half near the camera hasn't been sanded, while near the HTC logo it has.

Since 1000 grit was taking too long, I switched to 400 grit. This seemed to be a decent middle ground. It wasn't too coarse to tear up the aluminum but just enough to take off the anodization a little quicker. You can see I managed to scratch the camera lens cover a bit... don't worry FYI: anodizing can be removed via a chemical bath, but who would be willing to put their whole phone in a vat of liquid....
Now that I was down to bare metal I switched to 3000 grit sandpaper I picked up from O'Reilly's Auto Parts. This smoothed out a lot of the larger scratches from the 400 grit paper and gave a good dull, almost brushed, look to the aluminum.
Now that I had a mostly blemish free surface, I used Turtle Wax Polishing Compound to smooth out any remaining small imperfections. The final step was to use Mothers Aluminum Polish to get a nice mirror finish.
I was pretty satisfied with the result, however, I had to do more...
I recently stumbled across this article on Hack A Day which gave me the inspiration to do the same.
For everyone's information, after polishing the back, this is what your phone will look like after 2 weeks of typical use (for me at least).
Before I started the etching process I had to give the back cover a good re-polishing. Once that was complete I decided on the design I wanted. Typically in most DIY etching, people use some kind of paint or resist to block the areas they don't want etched. Luckily I have an awesome brother-in-law who recently got a hold of an old plotter. So I whipped up a design in Illustrator and he took care of getting me a vinyl cutout to use. Of course I had to go with the two sites I frequent the most as my design... (yes, I know it's a little off center. I got in a hurry ha-ha)
Instead of going with a vinegar and salt solution for my etchant. I decided on a mix of Copper Sulfate, Sodium Bisulfate and table salt. I used a 45% Copper Sulfate, 45% salt, and 10% Sodium Bisulfate mix.
The Copper Sulfate comes as a chunky blue rock/crystal. So I hit it with the mortar and pestle to make dissolve better in water.
After mixing everything in hot water it was time to etch. I used an old 12 volt 1000ma wall wart I had sitting around for my power source. I wired the phone by wrapping it with 1 foot of bare copper wire and tightly wrapping the wire with electrical tape to make sure it would contact the aluminum. I wrapped another wire around a cotton swab tip and connected it to the negative terminal of the wall wart. After making sure the phone was powered off. I connected the positive terminal of the wall wart to the bare wire attached to the phone, making sure it was in contact with the aluminum by testing it with a voltmeter.
Once satisfied with the etch, I cleaned the surface off with a damp paper towel. All that was left was another polish with the Turtle Wax and the Mothers Aluminum Polish. Here is the final result.
A couple of notes:
1. The phone "seems" to get warmer than what it did before (only while watching videos or playing a graphics heavy game). I haven't checked/compared the actual stats, it's just what I have noticed while holding phone.
2. The white plastic that separates the top and bottom will get a little grey from the sanding and polishing. Goof off seems to be a great remedy to make them white again.
3. The scratches on the camera lens protective cover were buffed/polished away while using the Turtle Wax Polishing Compound. Also, the scratches were never over the center portion and did not impact the picture quality while they were there anyway.
4. The speaker phone mic will get compound/polish in it, however a light tap on a table, with the mic facing down, while the compound is still wet removes most of it. Any residual stuff left in the small hole can be removed (CAREFULLY) with the tip of an exacto blade.
5. I have not had any issues with my signal, nor any issues with the mic on the phone since doing this.
I shouldn't have to say this, but anyone who tries this, be careful. You can seriously mess up the phone and I am not responsible if you follow my examples and something goes wrong. Do this at your own risk.
If you would like to do this and have questions or need help, let me know.

Chrome One...It actually looks amazing.
kinda looks like the m8. Can you put a clear coat or something to seal everything so that it doesnt scratch so easily?
I remember I saw on a truck show there is a sealant that could be used on chrome wheels to keep them shiny and scratch resistant but forgot what the product was called. Without some type of sealant you will get scratches back in no time flat like the I phones do. This is a great idea of if you want a chrome look and the etching is icing on the cake. You are only limited by your imagination. Could really make your phone yours.

I thought about this since this phone is mostly an experiment before picking up the new M8. I forgot who made it, but there is a spray paint that gives the "appearance" of an anodized metallic look in different colors. I know that sounds counterintuitive since I removed the stock anodization, again, this is mainly an experiment. I was thinking of doing some kind of a fade between two colors and then a clear coat.

Wow, I've never even imagined the One with a "chrome" look like that. It's gorgeous. Unfortunate that it gets scratched up like that, though.
Wow this is epic. How long did the entire process take all together?
tnx FOR SHARING..
I will start polishing very soon. Tnx for great idea and i will post picture result
Good Job!!
First look. After sandpaper i accidentally damage camera lens. But,i try a tip from youtube with toothpaste and now is maybe better than before everything. Just perfect solution for camera lens.. Now i only need to start polishing with some polish paste and we will see resoults soon..

Will work the same. Anodizing only creates a hardened surface a few microns thick. The sand paper will rub through this quickly leaving the base aluminium colour underneath. The anodize process is what is used to surface harden and create different coloured aluminium surfaces. If your brother in law expects to have a polished black surface afterwards, he won't.

65-70 HRC..................yes...............very hard surface after anodizing. :fingers-crossed:
Sandpaper is also not the best medium for breaking through it either, but definitely the safest to prevent damaging the aluminium below it.

Hot damn this looks gorgeous just plainly polished. The chrome/mirror look is niiiice - might have get scrubbing this afternoon.
I kind of want to sand my One down and hit it with some automotive grade basecoat and a few coats of clear coat. Anyone have any experience? Will it give me the beautiful glossy finish I think it will?

S6 edge screen badly scratched straight out of the box.

On sunday, I pre ordered a 128gb s6 edge on tmobile's website, it arrived on tuesday, and as soon as I turned it on I noticed dead pixels and also i noticed under direct sunlight that the screen had scratches everywhere, i paid almost one thousand dollars for this and I found that unacceptable, so I called TMobile and they said I had to return the phone, wait until they refunded my money and then I could order another one OR I could buy another one and pay for it and return this one. So I just went ahead and placed another order and they overnighted a new phone to me. The phone arrived today, and it also has dead pixels or something black under the display (very noticebale) and also has a really scratched screen. The phone is nice, it works fine most of the time, but my problem is not with the software, it is with the lack of quality control Samsung is showing with this release.
I decided to return both phones, and i will be sticking with my iphone 6 until Samsung gets their act together, I dont want to throw Samsung under the but for a flagship phone, this issues should be non-existent. My advice to anyone that has ordered a s6 edge, is to check your screen for any dead pixels, and to check your phone;s screen under direct sunlight and see if you find any scratches.

Don't be so sure that it's Samsung. Having this kind of issue twice in a row is a more likely sign of mishandling during delivery than an actual quality control issue.
I'd consider trying to see if I could get the device shipped to my carrier's local store for pickup, as delivery companies tend to be a bit more careful when shipping things to businesses than to consumers.
Same exact thing with my s6 edge 32gb. Small scratches allike over the screen.
My new one came today but I didn't open it yet to check.
Wow !! After that I will prefer to buy at the store after the April 10 !

I would find it virtually impossible for the delivery company to scratch the screen. Each phone should have a screen cover installed at the factory. The dirt under the glass or dead pixels with 2 units delivered to the same person is also disturbing.

Oh wow! Mine is all scratched up as well =( Right when I took it out of the box I noticed a pretty substantial scratch on the display. Then when I looked more closely, in more revealing lighting, I saw that I had light scratches all over the entire display. I am NOT happy with this. I will be getting a regular S6 for review when I can. If some of you are seeing the same things that I am, then statistically speaking, this is a pretty wide-spread issue. If you and I are seeing these scratches, it means that others are as well. I will keep a close eye on this.

You'd only find it virtually impossible if you've never been inside of a UPS or FedEx shipping facility (probably the USPS too, but I havn't actually been to the inner portions of one of those). I actually have never received a FedEx package to my area that wasn't beat up to some degree.
When I say that packages are literally occasionally tossed several YARDS across a room, I'm not kidding. And if whoever is supposed to catch them misses, well... what goes up eventually comes down lol.
The use of screen/devices covers only has one real effect, and that's preventing EXCESSIVE dust. Obviously, dust is dust, and you can't just eliminate it. It'll do a bit to stop scratches, but if a bit of fine debris that just so happens to get trapped under the dust cover it can still lead to scratches if the device gets shaken about in the box. And of course it does nothing to protect against impact damage, which is one potential cause of dead pixels.
I want to see what happens when other carriers start shipping. On that note, what courier is responsible for T-Mobile orders?
Edit: I'm also going to assume that everyone around here is aware of the fact that Gorilla Glass is visible to the naked eye if you have sharp eyesight, and that the "scratches" probably aren't scratches if they're uniform and follow some sort of pattern (you'd be surprised how many people thought they had scratched devices in the early days of Gorilla Glass lol).
Any pictures from any of you?
I just checked my screen. Zero scratches. Scared me for a second.
i expect these devices are assembled in vacuumed containers, in a similar fashion to hard drives, as such dust/particles are a non issue and it isnt possible to get dust under one of the plastic covers unless they are tampered with down the line - again this would just be my expectation but i would be surprised if this assessment wasnt accurate.

You expect alot from mass manufacturing/assembly lol.
The kind of operation you're talking about would be more likely to be found when dealing with either small-scale manufacturing or manufacturing of devices that never touch human hands before reaching the consumer. Neither case applies to Samsung devices.

Oh no Both S6 Edges I have received both have the scratched screens. This is bad.
while thats true, it is a proceedure in place for hard drives, they literally will not work if there is a single speck of dust on the platter - if anything at all interferes with the read-head it will scratch the platter and bam dead hard drive.
it is entirely possible they dont use vacuum chambers for assembling phones however, I will grant you that lol

Doesn't work.
There is no distinct pattern . They go in every which direction. I haven't seen this before and trust me when I say, I have reviewed A LOT of phones. It's strange to see gorilla glass 4 scratching this way. I have had my Note 4 for many months and it looks fantastic. I can see a few hairline scratches but nothing like what I already see on this less than a day old S6 Edge. At this point, I really can't pin down the cause. However, this is not made up. When I was at MWC I saw many, many models and didn't see any scratches on the displays. You bet once this device is more widely released that I will be exchanging mine!
So for those with scratched screens... how have you tried to go about cleaning them? And do the T-Mobile units come with a dust cover or a screen protector? If it's the latter, you might definitely want to try cleaning them as you could just be seeing small bits of adhesive.

There was the standard plastic dust protector. All looked perfect as I pulled it out of that sleeve. Immediately I looked at the display and saw a pretty deep scratch. I thought it was adhesive and I rubbed at it. It didn't go away. Then I could feel it with my fingernail. Next I looked at the entire display in the light and I saw hairline scratches all over the place. Something is definitely going on here.

That's very odd, and does sound like the sort of thing that would happen when there's a combination of an issue with fine debris getting trapped under the dust cover and the device being shaken about during shipping as it's unlikely that such a thing would pass any QA inspections.
The only unusual thing is that you said there was a DEEP scratch, and fine debris wouldn't cause that. Larger debris could, but that would indicate someone just being careless while packaging the device.

Darn man, I always put my phone face-down on multiple different surfaces, non of them are rough or hard though (hard plastics and wood). Did you move your phone a lot or did this happen when the phone vibrated due to messages/calls?
I'd like to know how that happened also, i've placed ever galaxy phone i've had faced down and never experienced that, sorry to see that happen to a new phone but definitely let us know, how it happened.
i will never understand why anyone would buy a new beautiful device like this, and NOT immediately put a case on it. problem solved. how many people every new device, end up messing something up, just because they don't put a case on them. $800 device, most cases $20. wow! take out a foursquare warranty, and use it.

I will never understand why anyone would buy a new beautiful device like this, and immediately PUT a case on it. I can totally understand why someone would not want to ruin the look and handling of this beautiful device. Well, when not laying you phone on a table full of sand that is.
I totally agree with GiGi. On the other hand, one useful case is the Samsung Clear back which also lets you put your phone screen down without it making contact with the surface. It also doesn't take away too much of the design and feel of the phone.
F*cking hell. What is your table made of, sand paper? Lol
Sorry to hear this though, it hurt me a little looking at that pic.
u doing home btn scratch test or what mate?

That's unfortunate, but predictable if you're not using a cover. The button raises higher than the screen, so it stands to reason it will be making contact with the surface you're placing the phone on, and as it isn't glass (or doesn't appear to be), it will scratch and mark. It's simply another reason why covers are needed on this phone. If I place mine face down, the ridges of the top and bottom of the cover is what makes contact with the surface, rather than any part of the phone.

I don't think he did, and I agree with him completely. Buying the thinnest and sleekest phone and throwing on a big cheap plastic box around it is beyond silly, in my mind. Industrial design is about look and *feel*, both of which get destroyed by putting a case on a phone.

You might have had a point if throwing a 'cheap plastic box' on the phone was the only option. But it isn't. An example:-

- A good compromise between protection and feel/looks.
- All about protection and sod the feel/looks.
I have a susipcion you have the latter in mind when it comes to covers for this phone. Still, in 12 months time when your phone is covered in marks and scratches, I'm sure it was worth it. Because, without some sort of cover on this thing, it will be impossible to prevent marks regardless of how careful you are. Well, short of living in a padded cell of course. Had the OP had the first protector on his phone, his home button would be scratch free.

What's the point in buying a phone, for its design features, and then sticking it in a god awful ugly case? Even the thinnest, most transparent, sleekest cases look sh*t and ruin the phone's look and feel.
I've never used a case on any of my phones. Ever. And I never will. And who cares if it picks up a mark here or there? Of course no one likes it when their new phone gets damaged, but you're buying it to use it aren't you? After a year or two in a case, you take it out without a scratch on it... then sell it on. What was the point?

Then we have a completely different outlook on property and what we're prepared to do to look after it. Also, a different opinion on what constitutes 'god awful ugly' it seems. You make it sound like the phone, in order to protect it, needs to be made to look like a 1960s Star Trek prop. That simply isn't the case.
For me, a small compromise between the look/feel of a phone and protecting it is fine, especially when you're paying this amount of money for it. You clearly feel different and don't mind the risk of scratches, marks and cracking the screen from even small drops (see this thread). Not an issue, and neither outlook is right or wrong, just different

I do compromise on protecting my phone. I always use tempered glass screen protectors.
Not that these are forthcoming for the S7 Edge so gotta be extra careful in the meantime...

Unfortunately, you won't get a glass screen protector for this phone that you will be prepared to leave on it for more than a few days. It's the only thing I miss about flat screens. My brother bought around ten different brands of these for his S6 Edge over the last 12 months and not one worked properly without constantly raising on the edges. Some were better than others, but overall they simply couldn't get the curve shape exact.
The best plan is to install a good quality film protector like the Zagg HD Dry. If you look very closely, it doesn't look quite as good, nor feel quite as good if you're determined to notice the difference, but it's better than risking the screen.
I have to say that Samsung is quite stupid at many things. Like, why would you put a raised home button on a phone ? In a pocket it gets pressed many times, many people complaining. Why would you put plastic on top of the fingerprint scanner, instead of glass ? And why encourage people to place their phone face-down on a table, with Edge features like edge illumination ? Why would you create an S-View case or Clear View case for a phone with Always-On display, only to disable the Always-On when the case is installed ? So much stupidity...

That's not good news. I can understand it being a little harder making a screen protector for a curved screen but how hard can it be.
Zagg is in the process of making a fully curved tempered glass screen protector so will be interesting to see how that fits. Just wish they'd hurry up.
I never ever used any case or screen protector, and so far I must have been lucky.
I also do not want to destroy the beautiful design of modern handsets with cases etc...
And so far I've seen, every case is a big setback in aestethics!
On my last device, a S6e+, I do not have a single scratch, although I used it on a trip through south america very intense (also on the beach, going out ...)! And believe me, I'm a display hypocrite, a single scratch would drive me mad!
why do people question the point of putting a phone in a case on a thread with pictorial evidence of a phone damaged because it was not in a case?
