[Q] Ringer and Alarm not working..NEED HELP - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Google Nexus 4's ringer and alarm have stopped working. It basically means the speaker at the back side of the phone is not functioning. I have already tried safe-mode, factory data reset, etc, etc. But it seems nothing is working. Can someone help

Loosing Sound on Phone

I've run into a strange problem and I can't figure out what's causing it. For some reason, afte a time of inactivity, I'll all of a sudden lose the sound from my phone. None my my system sounds, or anything will work. The only ways to get it back are a soft reset, or if I make a phone call, and then hit the speaker button. Then they come back. Anyone got any clue to the cause?
Thanks.

Audio completely gone on my Trinity!!

Hi.
I've been using my Trinity for a few months without any problems.
But yesterday it started to lose all sound.
No screen tap sounds, no mp3 playback, no voice instructions from Tomtom and no sound when someone calls me..
I've found after a soft reset it sometimes returns but then it goes again.
I've actually just done a hard reset now but the audio is still gone
Any ideas.
Does it look like i should send it back?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks.
Trinity loss of sound
Try clicking on the loudspeaker icon at the top of the screen as you might find the the display and phone sliders have gone down to zero, which cuts off the sound. Otherwise check on the phone settings in the Settings section.

You may also try reflashing.

The sound has gone...like completely

Hey everyone this is my first post so i apologise if this problem has been discussed at length already.
Ok so my current problem is that my htc hd2 wont make any sound whatsoever when using the rear speaker (so thats any ringing from incoming calls, notifications, videos, music etc..). I have played with the sound settings relentlessly but can't seem to change its current state and I have also done several hard resets. However, when accepting a phone call or when a pair of headphones are inserted into the handset the sound goes through fine, leading me to suspect that it is the rear speaker which is the problem (My speakerphone after accepting a call also doesnt work).
On two occasions I have been playing music on it in hopes for a sign of life and have had sound on very sharp bursts (no more then 2 seconds). In terms of any programs or updates that I have installed on to my handset I havent done anything but apply the updates from the HTC support website.
The problem ocurred on day 2 of using this handset and I have also sent an email to mobiles.co.uk to ask about a replacement handset. However I was having a lot of fun with this phone and wanted to keep it if it could be solved myself so if anybody has any ideas it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks
Try a hard reset. If the problem persists after that, it's certainly hardware related.
Same thing happened to my HD2 today, all sounds just stopped working for some reason, music player ring tone, notifications, everything, did a hard reset and everything works again, it is a bit worrying when it just happened out of the blue like that.

Did you accidentally turn the volume down using the button on the side of the device? Stupidly, system volume can be adjusted using this button.

Yes it can. It either changes both system and ringtone together (if you only use 1), or you have a tab for both (if you use both volumes), as per the sound and display settings in the settings tab.
No, that was the first thing that I checked, I have the single volume unchecked as well.

I find the single volume the better option, less chance of this kind of thing happening. Other than that, it sounds like you have either installed a tweak or combination of tweaks which are not compatible or you have a hardware fault.

[Q] Sudden lost of notification alert & alarm volume

So suddenly I noticed I wasn't hearing anything when I would get a text. So I pressed volume up. It was max. Went into settings all volumes max. Tried switching ringtone, no sample. Tried alert and alarms, same thing.
It's happened a few times now. So I started back tracking and removing most recently installed apps. When I got to Vonage. Everything worked as normal. So I reinstalled Vonage and checked it's settings to see if there was anything conflicting or interfering. I unchecked notifications. And since it has been just fine. But again today it's done it.
Removing Vonage returns sounds / volume back to my settings.
Anyone else experience or notice this issue? How can I fix it, other than permanently removing Vonage?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
I've got the exact same issue. Uninstalled Vonage and my notifications immediately started working again. Thanks for identifying the issue! Have you made any progress in finding a solution that allows you to keep utilizing Vonage?

Phone won't make a sound in loud mode

I checked it a lot of times, even tested it, and now I've found the root of the problems. My phone does not make a sound in loud mode. It does not make a sound when the alarm goes off, only vibrating. It does not make a sound, only vibrating, when getting messages, e-mails etc. Even when I am being called, the phone just vibrates, but does not play the ringtone, but the phone is in loud mode :S I did not tweak around with the phone, it is on full stuck, i has been working for 1,5 months, it started doing this last week. However, the speaker is working, it's not a hardware related problem, it must be something with the stock software.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Did you download another volume control app, it could be interfering with the settings you put your phone at.
Also did you try a hard reset?

Yes, I did download an alarm app after I found out that the built in is not making any sound, therefore does not wake me up. I don't want to do a hard reset yet.

Make a back up and then do a hard reset, if it doesn't fix it then you can restore the backup.
