[Q] Pacman ROM install size - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
i'm not very experienced at this so if i say something stupid please correct me.
i tried setting up PACMAN rom on my S4 yesterday, and i noticed while in TWRP it showed that the S4 still has 9GB free, even after wiping and formatting the internal SD.
I did not install the ROM yet.
I take it the missing GB's are used in a system partion? which is only available when installing ROMs? Does PACMAN take up that much space or is there now space on the system partition that's not being used?
again, if this is not how it works, let me know.

PAC rom takes up very little space only. Tried it ytd. However, the missing spaces that is used for system purpose, cannot be used for apps or storage. (Not that I know of)

[Q] Use Larger CWM recovery size than needed?

I'm trying to flash a rom for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1100707 and requires 260m recovery size and 1gb partition.
My phone currently has a 400m recovery and 1gb partition from previous rom. Would it be possible if I just installed the new rom without changing recovery to 260m?
If possible any side effects?
Googled b4 and no results...
Ok tried it and booted successfully.
Problem was that I had almost no storage space..

Hi,
The point of the correct CWM size is to accommodate the system for the ROM you are using.
It only needs to be a little bit bigger than the actual system itself.
The rest of the space can then be allocated to the internal memory and therfore be used to install apps.
If you use a CWM that is too big,you will have no room for your apps etc. as you found out.
It's not difficult to re-partition your CWM especially now that KSUBEDI has made THIS TOOL (Don't forget to thank him).

[Q]Any help for My best HD2 ROM Ever tested ???

This is the best HD2 ROM I've ever tested but only missing 1 thing... space
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022108
The Amazing Qaliza incredible S V2.... It have all the requirments for day to day use as speed, stable and even looks gr8
Is there any way I can increase the internal space as I get only 81 MB after install wich is not enough for my day to day used apps....
Any help would be thankfull
Use an ext partition, as per post 1.
1st of all thx for the reply
In fact that's what I've did.. but the thing is in post 1 it's mentioned for the V4 ROM which is Data2sd while this ROM is built on app2sd.. and this is the problem...
So any Ideas????
Ap2sd and data2sd both use the same ext.
also, you are aware that the system wont include the ext value when you view available storage, right? But it will use it as internal storage.
So say you have 80mb free plus a 1gb ext partition, your available storage shows as 80mb, but really its 1104mb.
Third party apps like titanium WILL include the ext value.
the thing is that it's included and this is 4 sure... but I really can't install any new apps as it says you are running out of storage... and this is the problem.
In titanium backup I have the storage reading like this :
System ROM:325 MB (3.28 MB Free)
Internal :95.6 MB(12.1 MB Free) - and this is the problem
SD card: :2.90 GB(148 MB Free)
SD card a2sd:1.00 GB (808 MB Free) which I can't do any thing with them
So this is the problem in easy way.... Any help, Plzzzzzzzzzzz
I've tested alot and alot of ROM's but I think this is the most stable, smooth, fast and even all features working in excellent Condition such as camcorder, vedio playing and all the stuff you need in day to day.
So if you could suggest another ROM that functions as good as this one it would be gr8 to have it but the thing is that it should support Arabic language as well.
Sorry for the long reply but just wanted to clear my point of view and my request

Most of your apps downloaded from market will be installed there. So...what did you mean with "which I can't do any thing with them"?
as post above, and also, could it be that the 200mb used in your sd-ext partition is left over from an old rom?
To wipe the sd-ext, go into cwm and run a wipe data/factory reset (but this will of course reset the rom and wipe the phones data, so do a backup first)
Also, i think there are some terminal commands to restart/activate app2sd (or data2sd, ) perhaps they would help?
For me, the one time months ago that i had issues with teh sd-ext partition seemingly not being used, i just took a backup, repartitioned the sd card, reflashed the rom (since i suspect that app2sd is initialised during first boot) and it worked.

That's what I'm talking about... That I've done task29 wipedata/factory reset b4 starting to install the ROM and when 1st start it the sd-ext is almost free then while installing the apps some go there and alot doesn't !!!!
for example now I have about 11MB free on the internal storage and 808 MB Free on the sd-ext, If I tried to install an app that is 14 MB I wouldn't be able to do so
For your knowledge, I've tried to install alot of rom's and they worked perfect, tried to contact Qaliza but I think he is busy now repling for my Issue, wiped my phone till I felt it wouldn't remember that he is a cell phone any more reinstalled the rom many times and always have the same Issue with the low disk space.... I think I'm in need of a patch or something like this.
Now I have a Q:
If I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20776525&postcount=2733 will it help or will it corrupt my ROM only??
sorry if my Q looks stupid but I'm really looking for any thing that could help

Problem with internal memory on froyo JPU

Hey friends,,
I've lately facing a problem with my galaxy 3. Lately i've been using custom ROM's based on JPU and the internal memory is getting low too quickly. It's like the apps take the double of its real size, so i can't have even more than 15 apps that my internal memory is already gone...
To realize if it's the custom ROM or not, I've tried the original froyo version I5800XXJPU and have got the same problem. Initially the total free memory was 170mb, after the system updates (gmail, market, google search...) it decreased to 130mb, and after just installing the facebook and facebook messenger it's about to 100mb
I don't use Hybrid Data2sd, because i simply don't like it and had some problems with it last time. And yes, i move the apps to the sd card in the own system interface.
Am I doing something wrong? Someone knows how to solve it?

The dalvik cache is probably taking up a lot of memory. Just wipe the dalvik cache and cache in recovery and you should get maybe 10 extra MB or so.

By the original ROM's recovery I am only able to delete the Cache. So I did and didn't free any space .
The memory that was 100mb free, now is 88mb, without installing anything.

Just flash Kyrillos' V10.2. It has app2sd right out of the box so no need for configuration or anything like that. It's simple and kyrillos' app2sd scripts are always fast and not buggy.

Thanks for your help. I would like to use the original froyo ROM, I am tired of custom ROM's, they are giving me headache :O. So if you know a stable froyo rom, without this nasty problem of the internal memory, I'd be glad if you send me. Without bootloader preferentially.
Try link 2 sd
Cheers

check your internal and external memory for .exe file virus with esfile explorer
One simple thing - DEODEX
When you deodex the dalvik cache goes to /data for /system/app and ../framework also.. I am on ODEX and it's good enough.. PS - You need to odex manually or download a pure stock ROM or some odexed custom ROM..
IF THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM PLEASE CONTACT ME or SOMEONE ELSE WHO CAN HELP

[Q] Help. Unusable Storage after flashing..

Hey Guys,
I'm attaching a screenshot to make my problem a little clearer.
I own a 16GB version Nexus 4, after backing up my stock ROM before flashing others and backing up my apps somehow i ended with just 1GB of free storage.
I was backing up my ROM again (CWM) for a different purpose and it said i had about 5GB available. Somehow the backup failed and i was left with just 1GB of free storage.
The weird thing is that if i go under Setting->Storage to see my usage the math doesn't add up. You'll see it in the screenshot.
I tried freeing the unused backups in CWM but its the same thing. This problem persisted with the Stock ROM as well as with PA.
Thank You.
If somehow this thread already exist please post the link so we can close this one.
Peace.

[Q] storage space running out

hi,
i have a storage issue that i'll like to ask the gurus.. I've just moved from PSX's v8.5 (4.3) to PSX v3 (4.4) and along the way, I've made numerous backups just in case. after flashing v3 and hellscore b43, i ran into a storage space issue where my N4 told me i had insufficient space to install more apps, to work system functions, anything. Ive attached a screenshot of my storage, but it seems to be there is a good 5-6gb of space unaccounted for? i have v little songs in my phone, no movies, little apps as well. its rooted. can anyone point to as to how i can solve this?
thanks!
to add on, I've used storage analyser to better understand by storage, and it says i have 9.87gb available, whilte the stock storage details shows the number at 611mb.
help pls?

Have you downgraded to the rom where you don't have this problem?
Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013)
I only just realised I was having the same issue when I got an insufficient storage available message while trying to update some apps. To solve it reboot into recovery then go on backup and restore and delete any unnecessary backups you have, if the ROM's working now then you could do with deleting all of the old backups and making one fresh one with the new ROM. Also do the 'free unused space' thing in CWM, I had no backups but somehow there was almost 3 gigs of space being wasted by CWM. There's probably something similar in TWRP if you use that

You've got the right app. check your /data directory to see what's chewing up space. I bet it's TWRP or other stuff stored by your recovery manager.
Use this great app to check whats taking up space: Storage analyzer
When u make full backups they won't show up in the system storage scan. Go to the file directly n try deleting an old backup. I guarantee u will see more space available after u do. Each backup is usually about 400-500mb depending on how many apps n other data u have

Or maybe you got shrinkage problem which is pretty normal when upgrading (seeing that you flashed 4.4.2 rom over 4.3 rom). Your 16gb nexus was shrinked to 8gb. The easiest way to fix it is by formatting your internal in recovery (or flash stock recovery and do factory reset). Do make backup of your things though cause you'll lose them.
