If I were as rich as to spend thousands of bucks on a phone, it'd probably be platinum, chrome, carbon-fiber or white gold.

HTC does not make these. A company named GoldGenie applies the plating to HTC Ones they purchase, and then resell them.

I feel for those people, I really do however, it's not our fault their poor, starving etc. It's their governments fault. If you're referring to Africa, they're one of the best economies on the earth because of it's bussling diamond trade. Their government needs to reach into their pockets for them instead of people like us for whom money is tight for most of us.
Admittedly, I agree that the gold plated phone is overpriced, but you'll probably find that it's aimed more at celebrities, CEOs etc. Not for people who are on minimum wage (in the UK it's £6.19 per hour) and I'm not ashamed to admit I'm on minimum wage, but I'd rather be on that than sat on my jack doing nothing, taking money from our taxpayers who work hard for it, but get a big FU in return.

Lol I would if I had money to blow like that. But I would put it in a case which totally defeats having a gold One. Guess it's more for bragging rights
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta

I find the Gold One to be super ugly.

It'd be quite funny if you dropped it.

I will stick to the silver and if i want to pimp it up it will be with a outer case

I would definitely get the platinum One!
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

Gold one costs thousands
Mines silver and cost 35quid + contract fees
Added a 15quid case I'm happy it will do the same

I think I'd have to leave it in the box and just show it at parties because I'd be too afraid of scratching/dropping/damaging it.
So then what would be the point?
MG

how are you supposed to actually USE the phone? I mean, I'd be scared at so much as looking at all that platinum O.O

If i have the money.....................

I am from Indonesia and heaps of people bought the BlackBerry 9900 "Porsche Edition". It costs about $2000. Single core of 2.8 inch screen for 2 grands. And it doesn't even have gold on it. I am sure "many" people will buy the gold or platinum HTC One

I'm not African nor have ever been to Africa so I cannot comment or speculate on your comment but I'm sure only a small percentage of all the diamonds found in Africa are indeed for dictators, war party leaders etc, but lets not get off topic and start a debate, this is a development forum for mobile phones, I said what I said to reiterate the comment made by another user and I'm sure you're doing the same.
Please lets get back on topic

Brand name cases.. why aren't they making more?

While day dreaming, I had one thought about cases. For those who can afford, why not sell brand named cellphone/tab cases?
I was wondering why brand named (ie. Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada, etc) manufacturers are not making good and functional cases for phones like iPhone, Galaxy S2, iPads, Tabs etc..
It seems that to me, it is a good market for people who can afford such expensive devices.
I believe that nowadays, phone is an important part of accessories, and just like wallets, watches, and handbags, it can be used as representation of one's fashion-sense/wealth/success.
After spending +$500 on devices, why equip it with cheapo plastic cases? Cheap cases deter value of a phone and hides design intention of a phone. Why not sell well made and functional cases that are also fashionable?
I've been browsing through and most of manufacturers only have pouches/sleeves. This is stupid as I have to take the phone out of it, which creates unnecessary hassle and doesn't really protect the phone either.
I believe if manufacturers can make ~$200 design cases, I think it will sell like hot cakes.
Those brand name cases will be expensive and fragile, not really worth it

+1. I've bought $5 cases from Five Below and they've held up just as well as the $30+ "premium" cases sold at the Sprint Store.

I guess us phone geeks worth the functionality and cost effectiveness more than appearance.

Mobile Phone Recycling

Hello all, it's finally come time to get rid of my faithful HTC HD2. I've had Android on it now for a couple of years, essentially saving the phone from a dusty cupboard since upgrading to the SGS2. I use both phones, the GSII mainly for net and the HD2 as a phone because it's got hardware phone buttons and means making and taking calls is so much easier.
I considered putting it on eBay but there's a fair few on there and i've had scammers come at me from all over the place back in the day. I ended up using a comparison website to find out how much i'd get and to be honest it wasn't that much less than I expected through eBay.
So i've got rid of my HD2 and i'm using the money to put toward the Galaxy S III when that comes out. I also have a second contract with a GS II so maybe next year i'll do the same, or even sell it now and pay the contract off
Anyway, if anyone else wants to have a look at the site it's www.onbay.co.uk/recycle
Not worth it in think you better off selling at a pawn shop or craigslist.

Luck
Did you try your luck on the xda-dev's seller forum?
All you really have to do is post up your device, and look at the offers from other members.
Not a bad deal in my opinion.

I'm just a bit wary when Joe Bloggs is involved, there's a lot of nutters out there. Pawn Shops rarely give me what i'd like, plus they'll be selling it for £100 more within the hour. Even if the recycler does that...at least I won't be able to see it.

Got a link to the ebay bid? Might be cool to see.
And maybe the HD2 will be known as something cool in the future, like how people still collect and use Amigas. With the dev community here and it's many possibilities, maybe it will retain some value, at least until a suitable alternative comes up (sadly, there have not been any)

No effing way!
I recently bought anotger HD2, a brand new unopened piece for US $285- a thousand bucks gotta be a sick joke!
Swyped from my HTC HD2 using XDA app
A thousand bucks is just a joke for phones.. I see many iphone 3g/4g for 1000 bucks.. Not sure why and I don't see anything special.. unless the inside is plated with gold or something
This phone is great and all but there is no way its worth $1000. I've seen places selling them a lot cheaper then that. I've bought several new
phones since owning my HD2 and I've stopped using them or have sold them and gone back to the HD2 every time and as much as I love this
phone there would be no way I'd be willing to shell out that kind of money for it. You could buy two Sensations for that price point. The seller is
crazy if they think they'll get this or anything close to it. Maybe the price didn't translate well or something,
I hunted the link down on ebay if anyone else wants to take a look..
Thanks for the link, the reason I kept one bnib was for one day to be worth a lot of money. Another seller on amazon has it for 999.95 not sure what version this are but my guess that's probably the reason for the very high price.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
I can buy brand new t-mobile US model still sealed with sim & 16GB card & have unlocked free once purchased for less than 300USD ...
It's a great device but not worth a 1,000bucks to anyone.
You guys are bursting my bubble i already went through the Bennie baby crisis during the 90's not sure if I can take the hd2 not be worth money one day. I guess it has kept its value pretty well since being out around 2 years ago.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
Kept its value as device still competes in size & style to modern handsets & has a good physical construction feel, plus with custom cross rom development it made its own unique used device market.
Common faults & ****e faulty or bad repair handsets keep used prices sensible.
I think the seller is just kidding himself to have it at such a high price, especially when an HTC One X is half that. You can set any price you want for Buy It Now.
However, new, unopened HD2s are obviously rare, (mostly because nobody was such a fool to invest in electronics), and smartphones were definitely more expensive unlocked in the recent past, so maybe he's just out of touch.

Xaccom - Really Cheap Devices.. Too Good to Be True?

I'm not sure if this is where I should post this, but I guess it kinda applies to this forum.
Anyways, this company apparently has really good deals. But I'm sure if they are a real/reputable company. I mean according to the post, the have brand new devices. Like a Galaxy Note for $300 and an iPhone 4S 16GB for $280. I think these deals are too good to be true, but if they are real, I want to buy things!

I think people already knew about this, but also most people don't open their phones anyway. Might make repair costs increase though!
yep normally dont buy insurance for phones but bought a squaretrade plan this time around
When it comes to T-Mobile, I'll be adding the 7 dollar a month insurance plan definitely.

That's a good point, but if you bought either of the Unlocked versions I highly doubt you'd be able to add any carrier insurance.. :/
If you're in the UK, Nationwide and Co-op give you really comprehensive mobile phone cover with their premium current accounts, as well as a load of other benifits (worldwide annual travel insurance, with diving/winter sports cover, breakdown cover, etc). Costs £10 per month. Well worth going with that in my opinion. Thats if you're not already covered with your home insurance.
