Change splash image? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I searched but all I could find was things for the GS3...
Is it possible to change the default Samsung splash image (mine says custom with an unlocked padlock)?
I would like to create a custom one in Photoshop but wasn't sure if it's possible or not.

Bump

That stuff is really above my head. But, remembering back to my Nexus One I seem to recall changing the splash screen involves the boot.img, hence you need an unlocked bootloader and ability to use fastboot to flash the image.
May be way off base, but that is how I remember it

If you are talking about the "boot animation" you can search for "animation" or "boot animation" in the different AT&T S4 forums and get several threads.
If you are talking about removing the custom lock icon on boot there are also several threads about this in the General and Q & A sections. There is also a thread about it in the Development section. Try searching for "SysScope". There is no reason why this information shouldn't show up in the search option. If you are using the XDA App for searching...don't. I also don't see how anything S3 related should be coming up in the S4 sections? Good luck and read everything you come across.

yeah, there is at least one in S4 by searching boot animation and no unlock needed. put the nexus 7 ani on it, so maybe some on splash screens also
also this is not our phone but may have some info you can use
http://www.infohiway.net/2013/03/how-to-change-boot-logo-or-splash-image-of-android-phone.html

I'm not only talking about removing the padlock splash but replacing it. I'd like it to be the default "galaxy s" one but with my name on the top so I'd look like "Michael's galaxy s..". and Google showed me information for the galaxy s3
After looking up information for SysScope it appears it only can be prevented, not removed. I'll look more into this. Thanks!

In this case, don't use Google, use the search function within the actual S4 XDA forums and sub forums. It will take you a while to read all of the information.

[Q] A few questions on the ATT GS4

I got my phone yesterday and charged it up etc. I have been giving it a work out trying to get all I could for customizing it as stock.
1 ST ? is how do I get this "air swipe" thing to work? I have all I can find in the settings / air gesture. All the buttons are set to on and it says there is an icon on the status bar with a hand on it, mine don't show the hand and only holding a finger over such as email will it show content. How do I activate and get the air stuff to work?
2nd ? is this, I was out of town and on my way home I stopped at a Best Buy, there happened to be a Samsung rep in the store with a display out, he let me play with his working demo and I asked a lot of questions. He showed me the phone dialer and said on the ATT version it comes out with a white key pad but the dialer could be "customized" to be a pale blue which his was, but he couldn't get the settings to come up to show me how. Does anyone know where this is changed to make the dialer blue with the contact showing a background as blue ? I don't know which version his demo was but I am assuming it was the international version possibly.
3 rd ? Being used to the ATT HTC One X , when arranging apps on the screen it was possible to merge two or more apps into one folder, on this phone I can't seem to put any apps together in one folder, is this not possible on this phone?
4th ? I was talking with the rep and mentioned I like to "tinker" with custom roms as I rooted , unlocked and S-OFF on the HTC One. Further I told him about reading the dev web site and rooting the new GS4 and as of yet no custom recovery. HE said that would void the "carrier" warranty but didn't say anything about manufacture warranty, so is it void also?
I am sure as I get deeper into this phone I am going to have more questions, so any help with this would be appreciated .

I do not see any setting for a pale blue dialr either.
As for the folders; When viewing either your home screen or all of your apps, hit the menu key and choose create folder. After creatung the folder, hit the menu key again and choose edit. When the screen adjusts you can drag icons into the newly created folder.

Thank you, well I had this phone in my hands yesterday and the guy had a shirt on that said he was Samsung inside a Best Buy in Arkansas. He did tell me that the ATT version came out with a white dialer , which mine has but his had a blue dialer. He told me there was a setting to change it to blue or ??? but at the time he couldn't find it. I think I have been all around the phone inside but I can't find anything like that and can't get the air thing to work right. He just waved his hand over the screen and it changed screens. I can hover a finger over the email and read inside without actually opening the email. He said this was another "air" feature but it only worked on the Samsung email app. If using , yahoo or gmail or some other app for email it wouldn't work.

Yes , I am pretty sure they have cell phones in Arkansas, in fact the local Walmart does a big business in supplying most of the county here. I had a conversation with the Samsung Tech dept. come to find out that feature is only available on the International version. Asked why the Samsung rep was demonstrating a International version at a Best Buy in Arkansas, I was given no answer. After being guided thru the booting of the boot loader, and a cache wipe , then a reset and then a factory reset, I think the feature of the air thing is working, not like I assumed it was supposed to but its almost an air feature I think.
If you want to make folders the easy way (dragging apps together), just use Nova or another 3rd party launcher.

[Q] Missing - lock screen shortcuts, ability to change bottom row of apps

Hey everybody,
Long long time reader, first time poster.
I've just bought a Galaxy Note 3, because I was so happy with the Note 2 I just had to have the new one.
To my surprise, there's a couple of fundamental features missing from my ****ty AU version (my Note 2 was an International Version).
There doesn't seem to be an option to enable lockscreen shortcuts, I've seen videos online of people enabling these on their respective Note 3's, but the AU version just doesn't seem to have it.
The other thing that is really grinding my gears is that the bottom row of apps on the homescreen is locked. Ie. they can not be moved or changed (Phone, Contacts, Messages, Internet, Apps), why in gods name would Samsung ever lock something like that?
There is one last thing, but I can't be sure if this is an isolated AU version issue or one that is across the board, but when I plug in my headphones, it doesn't take me to that wonderful Music specific screen like the Note 2 did. Is this something that has just been omitted from this phone or is it entirely an AU specific thing?
My question then becomes, is there anything I can do about this?
I've noticed a JB 4.3 Firmware kicking about and I would gladly void my warranty to get back these features. But I don't want to void my warranty and still not have these features, if you know what I mean.
I'd really appreciate any advice on this, as I said, I've been a long time reader of this forum, any time I've googled anything about my phone, this is the place I end up, so I know you're a knowledgeable bunch, help me out
Thanks in advance, I'll be watching this space.
Mine doesn't even have the lock screen apps but I have a favorite apps widget on the lock screen.
Plus I don't have the flare in lock screen like I saw in a video review.
I have the Germany Snapdragon version

I hate the locked dock as well .... also, the Australian version of touchwiz does not work in landscape mode. eg: if you use Ultimate Rotation Control to force the home screen to rotate, the touchwiz icons wont align properly in landscape.
I have complained on their Samsung Australia facebook, but none of the rep has replied.
https://www.facebook.com/SamsungAustralia/posts/10151943776798523
I think it is the decision of the samsung Australia to lock the dock and not allow us to change it.
maybe we need to form a petition on change.org

Aus Note 3
Regarding the Aussie Note 3 dock etc, I believe this is due to the ongoing legal crap between Sammy & Apple.
Use a custom launcher or flash other firmware?
Hi all. I am from Romania, Europe, and bought on 25th september a Note 3 from Korea. Is a N900K model, unlocked, so is working with my SIM from Vodafone RO. I had a Note 2 before and I was very happy with it. But now... I don't know... There are some problems and one is the lock screen shortcuts that I can't change. There is a "slide to right" menu were you can put the shortcuts, but not directly on the lock screen. Why?
thanks, it works without any security ... but in the my note 1 t can still have shortcut with some security

Galaxy Note 3 missing shortcut icons
Last week, I bought Samsung Galaxy Note 3. All features and configurations are very nice. But one thing is that I saw in Youtube video clips, for the other person's Note 3 have the shortcuts like S Voice, Action note and Touchwiz home but not for my one. Though I tried to create these icons, I can't do it. I know these apps are in there. It takes more than 4 days for me. No success. Can you help me. I can't find the clues anywhere.

in /system/csc the two files I checked were feature.xml & others.xml.
I think others.xml may not be important, I edited the option in there and still had no access to the Hotseat. Buit feature.xml worked.
The setting to change is
<CscFeature_Launcher_ReplaceHotseatAreaInEditMode>true</CscFeature_Launcher_ReplaceHotseatAreaInEditMode>
set it to false.
reboot, and you now can edit the hotseat / bottom row. thank christ for that.
So while teaserguy was only half helpful, a little bit of tinkering did help.
also, just incase anyone is unaware, yes.. you need to root your device to access these files.

[Q] Google now screen

Hi.
On pure Android 4.4.2, like CyanogenMOD 11 or nexus phones, when you swype all the way to the left you get to a google now screen.
Is there a way to add this very same screen, to be accessed on this very same way to the stock Android 4.4.2 from Samsung?
If not, is there a way to install Google Now Launcher on this phone? This is not the Google Now version, I'm not looking to make it a google now version due to some (few) things that I like on Touchwiz, like the multi screen, and don't want to lose some apps, like the shealth.
Btw, no root installed yet.
Thank you.

Safe Strap i467 semi-working

So, I was looking for safestrap for the note 8(att version) when I came across this:
Note 2 SafeStrap
Considering the note 2 and Note 8 have very similar hardware, I decided to give it a try. It works....kinda. It boots up in landscape mode so you can't see all of the buttons. And the touchscreen is offset. the touchscreen works as if you're looking at it in portrait mode but the display is actually in landscape mode.
I figure this is more progress than anyone else has made. I just know nothing about development and have no idea of where to even start. So if someone wants to take a look at it....be my guest.
By the way, to boot into safestrap, when you see the safestrap logo you have to press the menu button
i wouldn't THINK it'd be that difficult to rotate an app from landscape to portrait but maybe it is?

Sounds like the issue is with the build.prop file. You must edit the file so that ro.sf.hwrotation is set at 270 and ro.sf.lcd_density is set between 180 and 210. Once done everything should look and work fine.
Let me know how it works out for you, and what ROM you are going to load. Just wondering as I may opt to run it on my ATT Note 8.0 some time. Just I have done enough to be happy with it at this time, and don't want to be a guinea pig.

I have tested with screen density issues with Touchwiz, Android system, and UI within App Settings for Xposed.
Have seen Touchwiz crash with any density setting of 220 and beyond... I think along with the build.prop you will need to adjust DPI. I have kept mine at 213 as it looks best and does not have issues with apps and OS.
Again the build.prop should have settings for both Touchwiz and system DPI. just not familiar enough with what you are doing to say that can be done with or without using xposed framework and app settings.
Obviously Safestrap is not that tweakable to use on tablets, as phones have different layouts an density.

safestrap boots in landscape and won't come up after 10 seconds of not pressing the menu button for safestraping

It's not animated and I've tried several times to do the screen shot, but it's only on there a short time and I don't know if it's too early in the boot process to get it. When booting, it goes from the android/shield to the animated ATT logo. I can get a screen shot of the ATT logo. I'll keep trying.

Ah ok, thanks, however it seems to be the AT&T boot animation? I wonder if that booting Android with the shield is actually part of the full boot animation or functions the same like for a example a Samsung's first boot/splash screen where they show the name and model number.
