Hi all, for those of you interested, I shot a video comparison between the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) dealing with LTE speed.
I used speedtest.net using both devices with the same carrier's sim (H3G).
Well, I guess both of them are quite fast!

Here I am, it took me three days before being able to tell you a more accurate result.
Well, I've just repeated for the third time in 3 days the Speedtestnet using HSPA+ connection.
The results, apart for the numbers (which may vary from time to time, place, etc) should tell you how this two devices behave on HSPA+.
Once more, the tests were performed using the same carrier, at the same time.
S4: max 19mbps Download speed -- max 3mbps Upload speed
One: max 20mbps Download speed -- max 4mbps upload speed
Well, leaving aside the maximum achieved value for each device, I can tell you that in any round the HTC One scored a litlle bit more than the S4 both in download speed and in upload speed.
Thanks a lot for your tests. I'm not surprised that One is faster on HSDPA than SGS4 because the singnal strength is the best I've seen on the phone.

Hi all, got my note 3 on Friday and I am wondering if the wi-fi is running completely OK. I get a message for instable wifi when get more than 8m from my router.
Same for you guys?

I found this particularly annoying as it shows even when the wifi is strong. You can disable the "feature" in wifi advanced sttings, just untick "Auto Network Switch"
Once I unticked that the message goes away and wifi works better I have not noticed any adverse effects.

Hi to all,
I bought the Note 3 yesterday.
Normally at night i use a lot youtube to see the news and other stuff
With the Note 3, the movies stoped several times during presentation, and it was strange because with my Galaxy S2 never got that
Then i tried to see the same movies with the S2 and they never stopped...
To check the wi-fi connectivity and speed i instaled the ookla speedtest and the results where this
Galaxy S2 - 21mbps download and 2mbps upload
Note 3 - 8 mbps download and 1,5 mbps upload
I repeated several times this test, at the same distance, selectiong the same server and the S2 was clean and stable at 20
mbps and the Note 3 was very unstable and the maximum speed was 8mbps
Can someone test this? comparing the wi-fi speed with two phones, same aplication, same distance, same server?
Thanks in advance
Pedro
I bought the note 3 to replace the note 2.
I have not yet sold the note 2 and have been testing both phones simultaneously to determine for myself if the upgrade is worth it.
Note 2 setup: stock ( leaked android 4.3) , a few apps installed
Note 3 setup: stock (Android 4.3), same apps as installed on note 2
Benchmarks Apps:
Note 3 beats Note 2 in all I have tried.
Real world use/Apps:
I have run several applications (multiple times ). Some are .....
Browers: chrome, default browser,
Snote
Gmail
Youtube
Speedtest
maps
Camera
Google now
etc...
In several cases, the note 2 is slightly faster than note 3 ( yes, this is not a typo)
Not by much...... but note 2 in "real world use/applications" seems ever so slightly faster than note 3.
In multi-tasking/split window, I run CPU-Z side by side with the chrome browser.
This was to monitor the 4 cpu cores during browser benchmarks.
I tried the following browser benchmark tests....
1. browsermark - rightware.com
2. sunspider
In both tests, the note 2 out-performed the note 3. -----------update: {may have been due to thermal throtling}
I have searched the net and surprisingly, no one else seems to have noticed/reported this.
Can someone else with both phones verify this?
note 3: SM-N900 ( 1.9Ghz) - Octa-core
note 2: GT-N7100 (1.6Ghz) - Quad-core
Update:
I've run the online browser benchmarks a couple more times after some hours of rest.
Sunspider 1.0 scores {firefox}:
note 2: [ 664.4ms]........note 3: [ 414.8ms]
Benchmarks are consistently showing note 3 as faster than note 2.
Real world use shows little to no difference.
I don't think that a few seconds make a difference between two smartphones as daily driver. So I don't think the note 3 is worth the upgrade at least for what I heard. Thanks for sharing!

I dont have the Note 3, but I have just seen a video of the "famous" LG G2, with the S800, running some top games with FPS meter enabled, and I'm proud to say than my "old" Note 2 has the same performance, and in some games is even better! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16TAbUkAHlU
Benchmarks are the most useless thing that happened to mobile phones. And you can prove it with your own Note 2. Flash an AOSP rom and run a benchmark like 3DMark, you'll get a better result than in stock TouchWiz. So, this means that games should run better on AOSP, right? Then run some game. They will lag WAY more on AOSP roms than in stock roms. Benchmarks aren't a good indicator of anything.
In conclusion, I think phone specs are evolving, that's for sure, but the improvement between generations, like Note 2 -> Note 3, are little in terms of performance, it's not worth the huge amount of money they cost.
Maybe most apps are optimized for 720p rather than 1080p.

Very interesting. I wonder how long it will take for the rest of the world to catch on to this... or if they ever will?
Thats so interesting. .I wouldnt ever expect that and first time hearing it. No i feel a sense to apprach note 3 performance suspected.
If you proove this with a video screenshots and some benchmark test you would do a revolution i guess..

More and more I believe that with top of the line smartphones like these, upgrading is necessary only every two years. I had the S2 before this and it's really when I began to feel the slouch in newer games that I decided to upgrade.

I have stored worrying about benchmarks because all people say is the phones cheat the score. I would rather see just see real world performance. And like a PC a higher clock speed and more cores does not mean better performance.

note 2 to 3 not compelling upgrade
very useful, thanks.
I was considering upgrading when Note 3 prices fall, maybe early 2014. But now I am far from sure especially with Samsung's stupid region locking.
Reasons to upgrade:
IR emitter for TV remote control. Vaguely useful, perhaps in bars and restaurants when their TVs are turned up too loud so's I can turn them off or down!
USB3. Possible good for faster charging off computer and occasionally dumping in a load of music files.
802.11ac. Maybe I'll upgrade one day at home?
Display. Reports suggest it's easier to read outdoors.
Reasons I was considering not upgrading:
Note2 can support all the note3 software. We just have to wait for Samsung to release it. Or androiders to kang the note3 rom.
Am happy with 720p display. I have quite good eyesight, with corrected vision (short sighted) and I never feel my Note2 needs more pixels on the screen. A better sensor in the camera for low light would be nice but the camera is good for casual shots.
Camera already good enough.
NFC antenna. I like the NFC antenna not being part of the battery so I can use Anker third party battery which gives as good as OEM battery.
S-Pen already good enough fine. I got used to the only minor nuisance that the off-screen capacitive buttons couldn't sense the pen.
CPU already fast enough.
802.11ac wifi. I don't have anything which supports super high speed wifi. I'd end up buying an 11ac access point, then would want to upgrade my laptop wifi card too.
Besides, 802.11a/n is faster than my broadband at home. And at work we don't even have 802.11a.
I too have the Note 2 (international) and the AT&T Note 3... I can say that if you don't have an upgrade available it definitely IS NOT worth paying full retail price for the phone. I signed a new 2 year agreement to get it for $288.88 and I can turn around and sell my Note 2 for $350-400 easily making my money back...
The pros with the Note 3 are that the screen is absolutely beautiful! Besides the S4 this is the most amazing screen I have ever seen with my own eyes. Next, comes the software. There's a lot of new small changes that make things easier to use, however most of these things will be coming to a Note 2 via an update. If you're into aesthetics then this device looks more "premium" over a Note 2 and I almost don't want to cover it with a case.
As far as performance goes, you can notice it slightly. Apps open faster, but it could be due to the increase in screen sensitivity also. TouchWiz eats up over 1 gig of ram leaving a little more than 1 gig free for user apps. On my note 2 with my custom rom I would use about 600mb of ram leaving a litle more than 1 gig free also. No improvements here.
Some buggy things I've noticed so far is that my text vibration is very weak compared to others such as email. Also every app gives me a vibration alert even if I turned it off.
There's a lot of bloat on here even for a carrier phone. Most of it is from Samsung it seems.
Besides the few "pros" I see with the Note 3, I would not recommend anyone to purchase it over a Note 2 unless you have an upgrade you can use. Especially an AT&T one with a locked bootloader, which forces you to keep all these useless apps running on your phone.

this very well note 3, but I see exorbitant price
There is nothing worth here to give up $450 to trade in my Note II ($850-$400), mine is so fast and so optimised for my needs that will skip the Note 3 for the next one, for me that's the end of the story.

I use an Iphone 5S for work, and have a Samsung S4 for personal use, I overwhelmingly prefer the S4, but . . .
I did an experiment today, phones sitting side by side, both on LTE...
Iphone 5S - 24.66d/14.44u, ping 18ms
Galaxy S4 - 6.4d/1.12u, ping 119ms
What is going on here? Is our modem that bad? Anyone have any tips to improve speed?
There is no real way to improve speeds. There are some "tweaks" that exisit somewhere for 3G idk about 4G. It could just be that at that certain point when you ran the speed test the IPhone had better signal than the GS4.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
They were sitting on my desk and I ran them both at the same time and to the same server. Both were showing two bars at the time.

Did you look in the speed test app that you were using on each phone to make sure that they had connected to the same server?
You can't base anything off of a single side by side speed test. You should do the test several (at least 10) times in different locations and at different times of day. Record the results and take an average.
At the very least twice when you are doing so to check for discrepancies.
Anyway, I have never had an issue with the LTE speed on GS4. Just ran a quick test and got 21 down, and 6 up. The LTE reception is kind of bad around here too.

Dear Note 4 owners,
Is there anyone out there who can compare and tell more about the quality of reception on 4G/LTE bands. I owned a Note 2 long time ago, which had great quality (on 2G/3G of course) I now own a Galaxy S5 and in my area the reception is really bad. A friend of mine has a (ugh) IPhone has a great 4G/LTE signal at my place, while my S5 sucks (even exchanged my S5 with no improved results) . We are both at the same provider (vodafone). So I'm thinking in upgrading my S5 to the Note 4 if it has a quality antenna hardware. I remember there where some bad signal issues with the Note 3 in the past. Is this fixed.
Kind regards
marl
My Note 4 has exactly the same reception quality like the Note 3.
Doesn't matter which Band.
2G, 3G and 4G all is identical.

Thx for the info @buell47 , and with the same you mean that all is good? full bars?
Kind regards
Using OpenSignal I can also concur that the Note 4 is identical in signal strength to the Note 3. That does not mean full bars, it means it is just as good. So if there is an area where you only got 2 bars on Note 3 you will also only get 2 bars on the Note 4.
I can tell you only, that Note 2, 3 and 4 is the same in all different bands.
I don't have any comparison to other Models.
I read sometimes that Note devices are not so good like some Sony or HTC or IPhones.
I don't know, maybe it's true, but I want a Note, not any Phone with best reception.
That's my choice ?

Thx m8, wish I could get some comparison against an S5 . I hope that because of the bigger footprint the antenna in Note 3 / 4 is more sensitive , but it's guessing for me. I only know the S5 sucks in reception. Even downtown Amsterdam (vondelpark) I never seen more then 2 bars.

LTE coverage is very bad in Amsterdam, no matter what phone you are using. Supposedly it will get better in 2015 (at least thats what vodafone nl are claiming).
Okay thx for the info @ozaghloul do you happen to know if KPN is much better. Still on contract @vodaphone but at least i'll know not to extend it when due
I really don't know. I think KPN has wider LTE coverage in more cities, but I think its just as bad as vodafone in Amsterdam.
Let's find real reviews and good previews to get a clear picture over the new beast. I'm personally is really curious about camera, battery and system wide sound.
This is the first real comparison I've found about the camera. Please bring em on.

I am interested in their SuperCharge Charger and how fast it charges.
4.5V 5A is about 22W of power.
Between this and Oppo's Super VOOC, I wonder which one charge faster.
I am interested in general on how this phone is going to be my next flagship until March 2017. There is a difference in speaker setup between Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porsche, which is stereo for the first and mono for the second.
Question of the day, is it worth to jump into the Porsche design just for the AMOLED and 6GB RAM (plus losing a speaker) ?

Isn't that all Huawei phone are dual sim slot with 2nd sim slot share with SD Card?
So either 2 Sim or 1 Sim + SD Card, unless mod it like Mate8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/sd-card-2-sims-mod-t3342343
Porsche design would have been 128gb if they were to support microsd cards.
