Google Edition now up for preorder...Who's getting it? - One (M7) General

So the HTC One Google Edition is being released this Wednesday and I wanted to know if anyone was getting it. I have the developer edition and I'm hoping that I'll be able to flash stock AOSP but we'll see. Anyone gonna make the move?

I might flash it.

Same here.

Gonna flash it when I can and see if it's better than sense.

Gonna flash it for sure, sense 5 might be better than touchwiz but it's still laggy, inconsistent and not well thought through.

That's weird that some users experience lag with sense. But for me it's been excellent. There have been some cases where people have reported this so you're not the only one. I just find it weird. I have had my HO for a couple of days now and I love it to bits!

So it seems that the boot loader will be unlockable with a simple fast boot oem unlock. But when someone dumps it why would we need to buy it? We can unlock our boot loaders and flash the dump... Unless I'm missing something it seems to be pointless if you own an HTC One now. If I didn't own the one already I think I would go for it though. *discuss*

I'm going to try and get one. I want a One, but the carriers up here in Canuckistan don't SIM unlock the phones until at least 90 days, and I travel a fair bit.
Let's see if the US Google Play store will take my Canadian credit card and a US shipping address...

I'll probably use it when devs start cooking up roms.

It's if HTC and nexus had a baby. Best of both worlds imo. But this being HTC I really really don't hope they changed some minor hardware so we can't flash it.

I've had my HTC One for over a month and I still love Sense 5--despite thinking that I would wipe it immediately. My last phone started as TouchWiz, which got wiped the 1st day I had it. TouchWiz was horrible for me (battery, performance, stupid "features", etc.). I was planning to use a diff launcher, because I like more rows/columns and fewer screens, but I like this now, and it is so stable. I am running AHRD 9.2 with Sense, for the few extra features. It's been awesome.
After selling another friend on the One vs. S4 last night, I started wondering what the GE version will be like regarding the camera. The stock camera is great for me, and I hope the quality and features of the stock One make to the stock GE version.

It's been said that Ultrapixel and Beats will be in the Nexus One. So we won't lose anything.
I'll gladly day 1 flash it.

going to flash as soon as its available
i don't think it will be available until july though because they need to be shipped

Call me crazy but I don't think they can call it a Nexus One....

Guys, remebr ulttapixel is only hardware related
Htc One got a 12mpx sensor size but with 3x larger pixels, that make the camera capable of 4upx, at the resolution of a 4mpx
Is only a software question if can handlenor not that technology
Cyanogen uses a standalone camera app, adapted for every device.. Definitely not good for the new technology that HTC is using..
And Yes, HTC One GE will support that feature, togheter with boomsound

[DISCUSSION] Desire Z development..who will be in??

I think i'm not the only one that hates senseUI so my following questions are:
1. what developers would put the effort to max this phone to it's best?
2. Will we have cyanogen?
3. will we have screen calibration?(i really god used with true color rather than "blue pushed" colors).
Please if any developer would love to put a bit of comfort to our hearts please post here that you would do the best for this phone
So looking forward for it!
Edit: posible to swich roms from G2 to z and other way? that would be nice, theoretically it's very posible same hardware!
looks like the G2 will have stock froyo(not sure) but i really hope we can cyanogen mod on this thing! still don't think desire z is going to replace n1 on the priority list.

You are quite right, but alao g2 might take the place of n1,and g2=desire z,it'q all a matter of rooting i think.
Damn i will really miss the led flash from n1) really really usefull for me.
LED flash? G2 also has a flash with its camera, if thats what you mean..
Also, to your 3rd point, if you're talking about the blue tinge issues and such, these screens won't have those issues as they're not AMOLED's, but SLCD's.
Aaaa sry i mean trackball led flash.

dang. i was hoping for super amoled display. well atleast with slcd we won't be getting anymore burnin. hopefully.
Unfortunately for now, Only Samsung has the rights to use S-AMOLED. Its their tech anyways. But I believe from next year fall onwards they will start selling S-AMOLED screens to other manufacturer's.
For me S-amoled is not that interesting anymore, really curios about this S-lcd and it's multitouch capabiliti really hope is better than n1 or desire.

Cyanogen tweeted earlier this month saying that he's getting a G2, so I think it's safe to say that the G2/Desire Z will have lots of developer/hacker support. Honestly, that's part of the reason I'm so excited about the G2. I'll likely be keeping it for the full 2 year contract, so having a phone that's so supported by XDA is a huge advantage.

First of all, we have to see if it's unlocked, then we can play with the system: putting Sense on CyanogenMod maybe is possible, we'll see. I'll do better than I can.

Which do you beleive will have better roms?

Looking to upgrade from nexus one to either atrix or galaxy sII. They both have good hardware and it would be nice to have the bigger screen of the galaxy but it doesn't really matter to me.
I don't really trust Samsung with software upgrades and I have never had a Motorola before. I think what my decision is going to come to is which one will have the most custom rom development.
Anyone have any guesses on which one you believe will have more custom rom options?
Neither. Motorola still has the encrypted bootloader and Samsung just lies about releasing updates.
I haven't been paying much attention to it, but I thought they already figured out a way to root the atrix
That has nothing to do with the bootloader.
I would choose the atrix, only cause of the massive battery.

Problem is that you can be rooted but if the bootloader is encrypted like many Motorola's you cannot install a custom recovery to flash custom ROM's, you just have SU access being rooted.

Actually the bootloader isn't encrypted, but it does perform a signature verification on the files... so the end result is the same. No custom roms as it sits right now.

This is my thought as well. I won't get another android phone without community support. After watching Vibrant & Droid X development and their troubles I've ruled out both these manufactures regardless of specs.
I expect LG to be the most open of the upcoming android dual core models. It's just a guess though.
Most definitely NOT the Atrix. XDA should let that phone die... Hit them where it actually hurts with phone sales, rather than buying it in hopes to it being cracked one day.
The SGS II looks like the way to go between those two. Unless you feel like waiting to see what HTC ends up releasing.
As for LG, I have no idea. Never owned an LG phone before... The Optimus' bezel sticks out too much along the touch screen, so that'll probably be a deal breaker for me. We'll see when it actually comes out. Till then, it's a waiting game for me.

The Xoom has the same oem unlock/lock features of the Nexus S but unfortunately I think that's simply because it's a pure Google experience rather than a change in Motorolas views.

It's too bad that the number if people using cooked roms are a margin of error if the phone is successful for the normal consumer. The network perception will do 20x more to hurt sales than the locked bootloader ever will.
That being said, I'd wait for HTC to announce thier next gen (pyramid et al.)

who cares about the locked bootloader. The phone is amazing without the need to root it.
I switched over to the Atrix for while before swapping it for an Inspire. I still have an Evo as well and follow this thread to keep up with whats going on. But anyways from using the Atrix for about 2 weeks, I can tell you that it's not all what it's cracked out to be. It is somewhat a snappy device and yes it's dual core, but it only uses 1 core. The 2nd core is used when using webtop I believe. At least that's how I understood it when it was posted in the Atrix forums.
The build quality is nowhere near the Evo or the Inspire for that matter, however, it does feel good in the hands. It's very lightweight when compared to the Evo and the Inspire and it has like a cheap feeling to it.
The screen on the Atrix is very vivid...I think they call the screen qHD or something like that, but it's nice. The super lcd that the Inspire has is a lot better in my opinion...but that's just me.
The battery is where the Atrix excels. I was getting about 15 hours on one charge and that's without overclocking and roms. The Atrix has the best battery when it comes to Android.
The two main reasons I swapped my Atrix for a Inspire is the bootloader was locked and motoblur slows the phone down a lot. The new sense on the inspire is Boss! It's smooth as heck with no lag.
But to each their own. I for one will not be getting this device unless the bootloader is unlocked so that I can hopefully flash a rom that removes motoblur.
Eh I'd rather have the EVO 3d/dual core.
HTC>Moto/samsux
Obviously I do which is why it's a fail.....I only speak for myself but obviously other people care ad well.

I think that the inability to install outside apps is a Motorola problem but an ATT problem. The reason I say this is because the Inspire also lacked the ability to install outside apps. That was before I rooted it. Which by the way, just like the Inspire, if you root the Atrix you can install outside apps as well.

why would you want a nexus s 4g?

i dont understand why people would want to switch to the nexus s 4g from the evo. It may be a little more up to date but its just AOSP. Evo can be rooted to AOSP too and many other types. I went over to the nexus s forum for t-mobile and all it is is aosp roms and it looks boring. I know it has a very nice screen and i like keeping up with the latest phones but i feel like thats not a big enough reason to switch, i see everyone drooling over this thing and i dont know why

2. The Nexus S has had a fully working 2.3 ROM since December. CM7 is still not as stable, and just recently ironed out some major basic bugs. This will be the case for pretty much every major Android release.

I was going to get one, but I can't justify the money for a marginal upgrade. I'll wait for at least the EVO 3D before I decide. I'm content with the EVO until then.

The reason I would like a Nexus S 4g is because it's AOSP and it gets updates straight from google. I love my Evo 4g but I'd like fully working AOSP. No waiting for updates from a manufacturer. That is worth it in my view.

[Q] Is this phone worth upgrading from the HD7?

I have a HD7 and im getting alittle bored of it, and the screen size is alittle too big. There is someone locally who wants my phone and $75. Im not sure if its worth it or not. i know it is hardware wise, but i heard the atrix lags alot compared to others xD Thanks.
the atrix is the fastest phone you will use ONCE you install another launcher. This would definitely be an upgrade.
The people complaining, are generally irked by the bootloader being locked (which will hopefully be fixed soon) and therefore are harder on the phone.

I returned the Atrix yesterday. I really liked it, very fast and an amazing battery, but I had issues with it. My main issue was voice quality. Every single person I spoke to had trouble hearing me. I also didn't like the camera, pictures didn't look good in my opinion. Also, had issues with gps not responding properly from time to time, but I think that was just an issue with my unit not all Atrix phones. Now I'm waiting a week or 2 to see if I get the Infuse 4G, that phone sounds sick!!

just because no one else caught it, you can't install sense on this phone. Sense is HTC's version of motoBlur. Since this is a motorola phone, no sense. you can make it look like sense by installing launcherPro and skinning it, but that's about it.

Im pretty sure someone could port it.. people have ported droid X rom to the Mytouch 4G lol. so why not other way around? eVil D probably could. I know they have their own skins, thats the point of porting though..

Correction to my statement. Get the infuse. I returned the Atrix. Realized its a bad phone. Infuse!

The infuse is a downgrade from the galaxy S 2. single core vs dual, and bigger screen which i dont want. why did you return your atrix?
If you got bored with your hd7 then you'll get bored of the Atrix really fast. Poor developement due to locked botloader makes for a very boring device. We're also totaly at motos mercy for fixing broken features wbich they' ve do.e a terrible job of so far. I' d trade my Atrix for an hd2 in a second.

To much lag. Waking up from sleep. And really when it comes to a day to day use unless your going to be using the lapdock as your own personal computer every day dual core isnt really needed

dont listen to these two.
And so you know, if you check teh sgs2 forums there is a discussion of selling the sgs2 and buying the atrix. these guys have had both.

yeah but think about how much other moto devices lagged with motoblur 2.1/2.2. the droid x did horrible, and it has the new moto blur now and it runs amazing, im sure this will run amazing as well with update.

Lets go over this once. Sense, MotoBlur, TouchWiz, they are not just skins. They are woven into the android build by the respective manufacturers. To port to this phone you would need the ability to flash custom roms, which you can't do on the atrix. Yes there are a few like gingerblur, but those really aren't custom, just tweaked and skinned. Until motorola unlocks the bootloader (don't hold your breath that the devs will ever figure it out), there is no hope. This is why you probably won't see MIUI either.
getting past that, has there ever been a sense port for a non-htc phone? No HTC phone has had the same hardware as the atrix, so i'm betting it's hard to impossible.
not trying to be an ass, just making sure you understand. This is an awesome phone, just don't come in expecting all the openness of old HTC phones.
