[Q]alarm clock when device is powered off - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello,
I recently bought a samsung s4 and still study it.
One of the things that bothers me is the alarm. when I was drunk and forgot to put to charge, cell phone goes off.
And in the morning does not ring alarm.
if there is an application that can solve my problem
thanks in advance

uea dont drink so much you forget to charge your phone lol but if the battery was dead then your phone would not come on even if it was able to turn on for an alarm. Still needs battery power.

{Battery Issues} Phones mysteriously cuts off and loses charge

one min my evo is on and battery might say it's at 49% charged. then out of no where, my phone will cut off and when i turn it back on, sometimes its completely dead. sometimes, it's showing 2-4% battery life left.
WTF is going on?
Is it a stock battery from sprint/htc or one you got from eBay or any other seller?

it's the stock battery 'the red one', shipped with the phone. it use to work fine up until a few days ago, when i noticed what was happening.

Ive been purchasing 2000mha batteries from eBay and they have been working great for some time now.
I believe that sometimes the length of your battery life experience will depend on the way you charge it through out your day and the amount of charging cycles you've used during the life time of that battery.
Sure I do agree that certain things can be done to improve battery life, but sometimes... It's just time to discarded it and get a new one, imo anyways.

@Megabiteg
I figured that, but I didn't wanna get a new battery if it was a bad ROM flash or something.. but I'll use my extended battery when I get home and see how it plays out. I just that damn bulky Ness to that battery.
Change roms and wipe battery stats in recovery. If its still acting funky then it must be your battery. I think sprint replaces them for free if you tell them that your battery is disfunctional

I had same problem when I bought my 3500mah sedio battery. So I exchanged it. Most likely there is a problem with your battery.

Yeah, just did that. Think it was over used. Regular charge, trickle charge, over charged. It's toast.
Been running the new battery over a day now. No restarts at all. Guess it was the battery.

phone dies when playing games

randomly when I play little empire, my phone will suddenly die.then when I turn it on it says I have no battery left. sometimes if I reboot it'll say I have around 20 to 30 percent. this happens even after I tried battery calibration (the app and in cwm) and even if I fully charge my phone. I'm on tdjs Kang with stock kernel on darkside gov

just wondering but how long have you had the battery? it might be defective...
or, maybe it was a bad game download..?

I have to comment cause im having the same problems. But instead playing games, mine will just die. It happen now btw, it was on charge all night woke up and seen that there was no charge on the battery, i unpluged it and now it wont charge and my orange led just flashes when i plug it into a charger. In order to get out of it last time i used a walmart charger. Took out the battery pluged it in, took it out over and over and different ways. I was about to bash it. Well then out of the blue it started to charge again and turn on with absolutly no charge but did show it started to charge again. It only happens with cm7, cause thats only what i use the most. So i dunno whats the deal is im tempted to take it to tmobile store and see if they can give me a replacement battery and to see if its the battery itself. So hell i dont know what the heck its doing but i need it for my job cause im a truck driver and i depend on it to get loads and what not. It doesnt power up,doesnt boot into recovery, but does turn on when i hold the volume button and power button in the vibrate unknown mode and orange led flashes. I know i didnt brick it because ive been in this situation before and works after i did the special pattern to get it working again. The pattern is unknown cause it all depends so dont ask it was a euthastic comment. so hell buddy me and you are in the same boat until then

Edit** ok i managed to get it turned on again, pulled battery, sim, sdcard. Put it on charge then waited a few minutes, then put battery in it and then plugged it back in. It worked, im going to try to post a screenshot of the battery usage. I got to let the battery charge up some, so i can put everything back in it. I dunno it may be related to the emmc chip.

Defective S3 died 2 days after i bought it!!

Hey Guys,
I have been following this thread since a while and finally took the plunge with the S3.
it was a blue s3 and i loved it.
All stock, not rooted nothing..
So i was downloading my games and apps the first day all went well
the second night, i bought NOVA 3, and put it for charge while downloading the 1.7 gb data for the game over wifi.
i woke up in the morning and the phone is dead, it shows a yellow connect it to kies message.
I dont know what happened?
took it to the service center, they tried re-installing the firmware, but no avail. finally told me they have to replace the motherboard it was fried.
I fought with them and managed to get a replacement unit which im gonna get on monday.
The ordeal aside, i want to know, is it possible this happened because i downloaded too many games(6 actually)
each with about 400 mb data.
can a phone get bricked if i download nova 3's data of 1.6 gb
cause i am going to get all my games again.
so help with the solution!!
probably a 1 off defective unit.
You left it charging overnight right, have you considered a power surge may have fried it?
It's better to wake up early in the morning and put it on charge than to leave it overnight.
Sorry about your loss though.

I don't think the game's could do anything wrong to you while downloading.
Btw while playing games on SIII take care as the Phone's temperature reaches the sky and literally i have to close down the game because the phone becomes too hot.

power surge and over charge are totally different things. over charge protection would not prevent a power surge.
Most probably just a defective unit.
I left my HTC Sensation charging overnight once, and somehow there was an app running continuously and when I woke up the phone was scalding hot to touch. I freaked out and pulled the battery and let the whole thing cool before I booted it up again. Might not be relevant but just goes to show that our phones can take more heat than we think.

Still having issues

I'm still having huge battery issues no matter the ROM and kernel I use...
I have tried looking at battery apps that determine what's sucking up the battery but half the time it just says screen or WiFi. So it got me thinking, is it WiFi? I leave WiFi on, which was never and issue like a month ago or ever on my previous androids...but now all the sudden it seems to be the cause? I woke up to find my phone at 50% from 100 within 5 hours...of no use just WiFi turned on and set to only stay on when plugged in...so I could really use some help guys...

Simple solution - turn Wi-Fi off and see if it fixes the battery issue. Possible it is but to draw 50% that quick you'd have to be far away from the Wireless AP. In most cases that's very unlikely.

ya look at that.....but when you have small charges in between that dosent fully charge you.... you can make it run for ever...... the timer dosent reset untill you hit full charge. i agree with garwynn but ide also check your battery for swelling. ive had my wifi on all day (didnt realize it) and ive not had but mabey a 15% drain from it (5h28m to be exact).

[Q] Alarm When Phone is Off

Ok i keep it straight..
Its my first Android device (The S4.)
Switching from my nokia c7 i've had this issue of alarm not going off when phone's off..
Actually i faced this problem that day when i had only 4% battery left (obviously it wasnt going to last that night)
So i turned off the phone and thought the ALARM would wake me up the next day..( as my nokia always did )
But to my surprise it didnt...
I did search for some solution on xda but no luck..
But then i saw the link of alarm working WITH PHONE OFF on the Rival HTC ONE..(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406083)
So i was wondering whether the devs would be able to make some app..(Or refer me if theres any as i couldnt find one..)
Thanks for your precious time..
Regards.
Me
EDIT : So i was going though some more stuff on this matter and found something relevent..
Like there is a real time clock running on pc (that keeps time even when its off)..
Maybe HTC does use that to make its ONE power on ..
I think some files in the kernel can be edited for some progress on our s4 ( I am completely a noob and have no idea about kernels n all , i just read it somwhere)..
Maybe some real pro can help us out here, by studying htc one's files.. and try to make it work on some other 'SmartPhones'.
+1 to that plenty of time phone nearly dead and would love to do this if possible

The problem is that some 'smartphones" never really turn off.
My Blackberry Storm was one of those and my guess is that the previous phone you had didn't either.
If the phone is in deep sleep mode, then it can wake up.
If on the other hand, it's off, and I mean really off, there is nothing you can do.
The current crop of Android phones turn off; not go into a deep sleep.
Then how can HTC one do it..
I mean it may go to deep sleep..
But can't our s4 go to deep sleep..?

I am! Have not test it... I always love that feature on my Sony Ericssons And nokias. IPhone never had it. Would love to have the function here on the s4. But again I have not try it. I will tomorrow

When your screen is off your phone is in deep sleep. At least should be i dont know how they did it but when you turn off android phone its off. No alarm. Maybe they have modified fly mode and altered frequencies for cpu gpu etc to be just enough to ring alarm with almost zero power consumption. But again its not off. I miss that too. Its like where to **** is my charger or hope my alarm rings
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
With screen off battery goes down by more than 8-10%
I don't think that's deep sleep.. (in deep sleep battery shouldn't drain more than 2-3%..)
Yup if HTC can do that y cant Samsung.. Or other devs..

It's not a matter of firmware/software (which you clearly don't understand), it's a hardware thing. The hardware isn't capable of it.

Check your apps. I have 4% over night data off. Once i broke power button on lg p990 so few days i had to live with no deep sleep to be able to turn screen on with volume buttons and man, drain was over 15%/hour.

Dude only 4%,Thats great for you..
Do you use any battery app.. Or its by default..?
I've removed one phone lock app which did save me about 7% drain but still cant get it below 8%..for ( 8-9 hours of sleep )
But i'd still love this alarm feature..

Yes. Software-based. The question is that if a 3rd party app have access to the system to create an "auto on" or if is something that needs to be manage on the OS itself. Maybe with root access?
