windows phone 8 jailbreak coming a la HTC 8X - Windows Phone 8 General

Excellent, hopefully soon reaches the Nokia Lumia 920

And Samsung ativ s but I seriously doubt it Samsung windows phones take the longest to crack it seems

This is not the first time this claim has been made, hopefully this time something will come of it.
@noelito: Samsung phones were among the first to be cracked in the days of WP7. For a long time, WP7 Root Tools could only run on Samsung phones. That was gen1 though; Samsung stepped things up with gen2.

i PRAY for a samsung ativ s jailbreak

WP is THE only OS ignored by everyone, hackers and devs alike. Always wondered why. I guess while ANdroid and Apple ignore these indie devs(or hackers if you may), MS has one eye on them.
Just my opinion.

Please, do it for Lumia 820
Great to hear that something changes in WP.

[Q] WP7?

i have seen that samsung is releasing a windows phone, and it's got all the same specs as our beloved galaxy s. except we have 16 Gb of internal storage, and the windows phone only has 8 Gb. so that brought me to wonder, if there is anybody looking into getting WP7 working on the galaxy s line of phones. i am an avid xbox live gamer, and also am a zune member, so this would be great for me. especially if there was a way to dual boot my phone for both android and wp7.
Aww man dual boot would be amazing.

So far all I see is wm guys wanting android on their phones, really none of us ex wm users care for it, which is why we switched in the first place.
And then there is the licensing issue, wm isnt free.
just sell your vibrant and buy a wp7 phone. Just warning you though, you will be disappointed.

Exactly. You can't legally port WM to anything. Even if you did get a working port, Microsoft would take it down immediately.

The devs for MS market place are facing big hurdles getting their apps up because MS has a final say what gets publish and what doesn't. There is no "jailbreak" or "root" concept either, so you are stuck with whatever guys in Redmond decided is good for you.

I'm on a Vibrant, I had a HTC Touch Diamond (WM 6). Windows 7 is going to be such a huge improvement from 6. If you haven't watched the demo videos for 7, go look at em. Dont get me wrong, I love my Vibrant, but don't hate on it till you've taken a good look. The UI looks pretty kick ass in my opinion but I think W7 is designed for a different crowd of people from what you find on the XDA forums judging by their commercials.

The one thing you will miss from moving to WP7 is the community. I am sure a new community will grow around the phone is no time just like Android did when G1 was release, and when root was found, the community boomed. Same thing happened with iPhone and jailbreaking, it's just matter of time.
I say wait a while and see, if it is good, jump ship, if not you can always stay with Android.
Actually the community for windows is there. I first found xda developers when I was looking for mods for my MDA that was years before android dropped. Look over in some of the windows forums they are there. Its just that windows got stale, other than a couple HTC skins WM has been nearly the same since 2003. They really just updated it to work better with new hardware.
I'm sure WM7 will bring a little fire back. I'd like to try it out. My first smartphone was a Wm phone, and there are things I still miss like the contacts a Calender.

imho WP7 looks gross
especially the home screen.
i mean Tiles.... WTF
i love the android OS. i love my vibrant. i just thought about how cool it would to be to dual boot with wp7. i didn't think about licensing though. i forgot that windows mobile isn't open source like android is, so it'll be harder, if even possible to get windows on an android device! but it's ok to wish. maybe in the future i'll get a wp7 phone. then dual boot with android on that. or keep my vibrant and have the best of both worlds. i should wait anyway to see how wp7 turns out, but i really like the involvement of xbox live and zune! i do have to say, even if wp7 is amazing, it's going to be hard to catch up with android. i can see this is going to be just like the pc world. android(linux) vs. iOS(apple) vs WP7(Windows). andbody see a trend?

What phone is/will be the next HD2 ???

Let me explain my question.
HD2 is most popular phone for developers. We have Android, WindowsM , WP7 , Ubuntu,...etc.
My question is what phone is going to replace HD2 and will be focus for all developers in next years.
I will keep my HD2. I want in future to buy a new phone which will support multiple OSes like HD2, but have better multitouch, screen, speaker,...etc.
So what phone do you think is the next "HD2" ???
That's a really nice question mate! A bit difficult for me to say though! HD2 is by far the best phone ever made and developers gave to much effort for us to have all those Operating systems running extremely fast and stable. Although as i said it's a bit difficult to say which device will take place! I just got my HD7 and sold my HD2 because WP7 is really my OS! Simply, fast, stable and something new! So i don't think so that HD7 will be a developers phone or any other device currently available! HD2 will be in history until something new will come in the future! Now who is the next King?? UKNOWN!
I am quite sure that the device which will be the "dev-fav" successor of HD2 is not yet existing. However, the next generation will bring even more power, maybe there will be a few candidates on the market soon...
Probably due to the fact the HD2 is the only Windows based 1Ghz model, not sure any other native device from Android, Windows Phone 7 etc...could be hacked so well as the windows mobile base, if they bought out another windows mobile phone with dual cores etc...
easy answer, its the next phone cotulla buys. So only you have to be aware its when cotulla buys a new phone and which.
I don't know if there ever will be another phone that gets as hacked as the HD2 did. The HD2 was in a unique position where it got all the ports it did... also it being pretty much the first and last winmo phone with snapdragon, and there wasn't any competition of other winmo phones in it's league, it attracted a lot of devs. With any new android or wp7 phone, there is such a variety of choices and similar devices, that the devs won't all get the same device... they will be more spread out between the variety of similar devices, so porting won't be accomplished as quick as the hd2 ports did. Also, I think winmo devices were much easier to port other os's to than android or wp7 devices. I think the next device that comes closest to the versatility and choice the hd2 had will probably be a nokia meego device or something like that.

There is no way to know when the next "HD2" will appear and what it will be. However I have a hunch it might be another HTC device being HTC receives a lot of development here and that HTC usually delivers innovative devices.

Yes, its kinda disappointing though...I would have preferred Nokia going the android way and they could have put their software resources on building a custom UI like Sense..maybe they could have put something exceptional...
Now its just going be vanilla Win7 phone just like every other Win7 phone out there...nothing much to distinguish from..
Anyway back on topic...I think its going be some Nokia phone. Many people just buy nokia for its brand name and reliability...and some people would hate Win7 which although a great OS..is very limited..
So it might generate interest in the community to port Android on it.

Have you really look through this forum? And then compared it to an HTC phone thread? There are almost no Devs working on this phone.
If you want something you can crack into and work with using ROMS and other programs, this isn't the phone you want.
You will also find a lot of programs actually say "HTC phones only"

Well there are practically no roms and so far no one has really managed to hack WP7 like WM and Mango is supposed to be even tighter on security so its probably all moot. End of the day with the authorised unlock from chevron labs you will probably have access to the same homebrew applications as any other WP7 device.
Is it supported by chevron?

Wondering if the OP is asking about viability in terms of OS upgrades. Unlike Android, Windows Phones uses standard hardware components / software. This allows easy upgrades once the carriers have finished... ahem... testing them.
All current Windows Phones will be upgradeable to the next version of the OS, called Mango, which has some major improvements.
The next updates / upgrades after that are called Tango and Apollo. I believe Apollo will be version 8. I don't think Microsoft have announced yet if the WP launch devices (including DVP) will be upgradeable to Apollo. However, you won't be dependent on Dell to release upgrades, as the platform is standardised.
Other than the dvp which other att win7 would you reccomend
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I'd say the following are probably worth considering:
- HTC HD7S
- Samsung Focus
- DVP obviously
Also note that a new batch of Windows Phone hardware will probably be launched around September-ish. Your choice is therefore whether to grab something cheap now or wait for a couple of months to get the next batch of phones - or to get an Android ;-)
If you Google 'windows phone 7 mango handset', you can find some early details on the upcoming devices.

Interestingly enough, there is a Samsung Galaxy S 2-like phone coming with WP7 Mango. Looks like Samsung have been listening to you See link below:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/microsoft-unveils-new-windows-phone-7-handsets-from-samsung-ace/
Nokia Sea Ray is also much anticipated and will probably have an awesome camera - wonder if anyone here knows the expected release date of this. Was supposed to be early 2012 but it's possible it might be sooner.
For Mango hardware, things I've heard of:
- rumour of front-facing cameras.
- gyroscope support.
- expanded SoC support, with a variety of CPU speeds above a minimum of 800MHz. Interestingly, some of the next batch are still rumoured to use a 1GHz CPU (like current models) but I believe they will have a more powerful GPU. WP7 runs very smooth even on current hardware.
If there's anything I've missed, I'm sure someone will fill in the gaps
Here is the most important question of all.
WHat is theETA for the phones to be released??
a month or two

[Q] How Is Worthy Successor of HD2

Hi to all,
I am using HD2 for about 3 years, and during this time thanks to the XDA community I was able to experience on it Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Phone 7, Android 2.4, Adnoird 4.0.4 and Android 4.1.2. With the last two, I grow very attached to the NexusHD2 ROMs. Moving to the Native SD has improved the performance substantially in the last months.
After all this time, these ROMs helped me reinvent and use my device in many new ways, unavailable to WinMo 6.5 at the time.
What I want to ask you is which device do you think will be worthy successor of this marvelous device?
After the CES 2013, and my preference to metal casing and clean shapes, I’m looking forward to Lenovo K900, whit it’s 5.5” full HD display, 2 gigs of RAM, 13MP camera, and beefy Intel CPU, as possible candidate. What I don’t like is the customizations applied to the OS by Lenovo. Do you think there is a chance for Nexus port on this device.
As alternative I perceive the Nexus4 but despite it’s attractive price, and compared to the K900 hardware, it is more like 2nd best from my prospective. But the option to get the latest Android directly from Google is strengthening the offer.
Probably you have heard the rumors about the upcoming Android 5.0 premier.
I’m not planning to retire my HD2 yet, but with the latest Hardware offering on the market it is hard not to think about it.
Could you share your opinion on the topic?
currently, the google nexus 4. that's what i just bought anyway.
a true developer's phone with an unlocked bootloader, vanilla android etc.

a worthy successor must be able to do everything his predecessor could and better. if the google nexus is the worthy successor we can say goodbye to SD development.
There is no worthy successor and there likely will never be a successor to the HD2. There will probably never be another phone that can run WM6, Android, WP7 and all the other OSs that are out there for the HD2. Just look at HTC now and their locked bootloader crap. Hell, as far as I know, the One X still doesn't have S-OFF.

Right now you probably should go for the S3 or the Nexus series. Or I would definitely get a WP8 device if someone can port Android to it.

Android is dead... back to Windows

I was tempted to get the Note 5 maybe only for Gear VR...
My Note 4 is beyond its limits...
I don't see any other important reason not to switch to the Lumia 950XL
Am already using Onenote with my colleagues.
So much better... well it's Office...
Same with my Note 10.1 2014... Surface (pro) 4 it will be.
Android apps are already and maybe iOS ones will be running on Windows which is the other major seller for Windows 10
Android was once very open... now it's becoming more restrictive to satisfy even the dumbest user... for those there is already i'doit'OS.
Impossible / hard to root... SD practically unusable...
Huge Software problems with 5.0 and 5.1 across all Manufacturers.
The Base is too old... not designed for 8 core 4GB Ram devices
Windows 10 is a completely new OS
Android is dying... fragmenting within itself now - in the near future more manufacturers will make their own Android... am telling you... it's the rise of Windows
Back to the smartphone roots
Cool story bro

Info
I agree with u somehow
the discipline in company and products is important whatever product sucks like winVista or good like win7 or maybe completely new and gr8 like win10 (but not changing whole company with new name ALPHABET!)
Microsoft will change smartphone markets but it s on early stages
Android is awesome but maybe google policy is not good enough for it
so native support for APK packages on Win10 can make some different for Android Developers
:good:
btw u should send it to Android Forum, General Section, not in galaxy note 5
actually you may have something here..with the mass exodous from Samsung that the note 5/S6 has started, the alternative phones/OS are suddenly going to have a opportunity to come back again; I just dumped my samsung for a nexus, my wife and son dumped their samsungs for LG G4's, it seems like 95% of my XDA buddies are completely fed up with Samsung, so, there has never been a better time for windows 10,Blackberry, and or any of the "newcomers" out their to get their products into the market place.
Samsung has lost their "leader" mentality, and obviously thinks they can just rest on their past laurels and maintain the giant customer base they have enjoyed for the last several years..
boy, are they in for a rude awakening..
You talk about iOS being "restrictive" and yet you want to move to Windows Phone. Does no one see the irony is this?
IOS can be jailbroken; is there a way to "crack" windows phone?
Haha hahah Android is dead? You sure have a great imagination. I sure hope windows finally gets better because everyone can only win with more phone competing to make a better product

I don't see Android dying anytime soon. There are too many devices and manufactures using this platform.
