Hi
I have just move from a stock to custom ROM and notice my wifi reception seems weaker. Is this just by chance or, despite obviously having the hardware, do radio/wifi capabilities vary between ROMs? If so?
Thanks Jim

hi most of the time when flashing new roms i flash my original modem/radio that was shipped with the phone. but to answer your qusstion different roms may come with different modems that may increase signal or decrease signal as they are split up into regional areas however what works best for some may not work for you its all about trial and error.
if you dont remember what baseband your had just call your phone providor they will tell you

Thanks for that clarification. With many stock and custom ROMs now packaged as a single file, choosing the part you want keep and the part you want to replace may be harder. However, I hadn't realised that is was even possible to "mix and match" in that way. Makes absolute sense on reflection. Cheers.

hi
i think that my m3100 is not working so well with the radio anymore due to a few connections needing to be resoldered, at least thats what i am hoping, does anyone know of a guide to help me through it or any clues?
thanks all
Is the unit insured? Would that be an easier route to go down?
yeah but before i spend the £50 excess i wanted to see if i could do this as i have all the tools at my disposal at work so can do it, i just don't know what i am looking for

You sure the radio is actually physically damaged?

Good question, it would be a pretty unusual fault and I might suspect software first unless it's had a good battering!!

well i have tried flashing many types of radios, it has the latest bootloader 2.10, IPL 1.04 and many many different rom's and each 1 exhibits the same probem, the radio will fail when i move to a stronger signal area, or to 3g from gsm, or when i try to make a call. i only think its phyiscal as a few other people have said they get the same problems as me and find after opening it and "fixing" it it works once again.

What did they fix?? and how?? There is a known issue that causes the phone to drop calls when moving in and out of 3G areas. The phone tries to swap to the "band" with the strongest signal 2 or 3G. Frequently folk report that when this happens they lose the call. The workaround here is to turn of 3g and only use GSM band. This can be done in settings or by using a "band switcher" perhaps danielherrero's one.

Guys,
we need to have some sort of a poll for the best radio out there so that everyone can benefit from it.

just use the newest..
and the result of this will not be plain the "best" radio. also you don't know about different networks in different countries etc... i second my precessor, just use the newest as long as it doesn't make trouble.
I use the newest one, until i find a problem.
you won't find a problem with newer ones, since all radios as of yet are abysimal at best with 3G
Bluetooth now works well on 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22
I am in the UK and did the update from HTC to fix the Sense speed etc.
Once I did this my Bluetooth stack was shot. Dropped all the time and would hang connecting to A2DP unless I did a reboot etc.
Not sure what the radio number was in that build.
I just got fed up and rooted my phone and flashed 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22.
Wow, now Bluetooth is working like a charm (only been 1 day but a world of difference).
3G and 2G seem the same as before for connection and signal etc.
Just thought I would let you all know my findings.
Regards
Russ
Latest radio update made me gain 2 bars in my house.

hello, I have a problem with my topaz GSM network, when I call or they call me the communication is choppy and eventually ends up cutting the call. Only happens with GSM, 3G operates luxury. I'm tired of changing radio and rom but no solution. Has anyone had this problem with the topaz? What should I do?
Thanks for answering.

Would have to be a radio issue.
Almost sounds like a mismatched RIL.dll for your radio....
Keep flashing radios until you find one that works.
thanks for answering so fast.
I am looking for information about RIL but not what you mean I could do from there, could you explain?

I haven't messed around with Topaz radios so I'm not sure how they are extracting them, but on the Raphael, they split the RIL.dll.
I believe the RIL.dll is only an issue if you have flashed a radio from a different device, being CID unlocked of course.
So, I'm not sure what all you've flashed to your phone.
Worse case scenario, flash back to stock ROM, see if you still have the same issue and take it from there. remember to hard reset after you flash a ROM as well.
I have no idea if this has to do with the CID, but the phone was Vodafone. The release by IMEI. Today I'm learning new names xD. Thanks
I have been reading mixed views about whether the the T9193 loses 850mhz compatibility once a cooked rom has been flashed to this model. Some say they lose the nextg connectivity and registry tweaks are required to fix this, whilst others say it is simply a hardware issue and that any rom can be flashed, keeping 850 connectivity. I bought this phone purely for its 850 mhz ability, but i hate the telstra bloatware. Can someone please confirm this for me.
Regards Romeash
I have a Telstra HD2 and use it in the US on AT&T 3G(850) with NRGZ28's rom without any problem. HSPL and ROM were the only changes I made.
Brad
where are you australia
my t9193,running v1.50 ozrom and 2.08 radio
there is a telstraband cab floating around that puts all the 850 setting back in the phone
works a treat in hobart
Yeah I've flashed several times and played with the band settings in registry. Changing the band frequencues in registry didn't make any difference so don't worry about it.
Radios did make a difference
I flashed to this ROM- RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship
this got rid of the telstra stuff and seemed to give the best reception

Yep, I can confirm that too. I kept the Telstra ROM on my phone for almost an hour and a half before I got sick of it and flashed to something better. I have had no problems at all with connecting to HSDPA (and I've tried at least 5 flavours of cooked ROMS, and 6 or 7 different radios). Radio 2.08.50.08_2 works best for me, with full reception bars all the time.
The registry fix allows the 850 band to be displayed in the band options, but this is purely cosmetic and has no affect on the phone's ability to sync with the network. I haven't encountered a single problem despite numerous (and for a while daily) upgrades, so you shouldn't need to worry too much.
I would definitely recommend sticking to the HSPL and flash-overoUSB route though - much easier to recover if anything does go wrong during flashing.....
thanks alot guys, much appreciated. now i know i can go through with the flash. first i gotta get it repaired under warranty. the audio manager keeps crashing every time i try to play music through the music. ive used different micro sd's so i know its definitely not the cards. must be the phone.
Hi,
The network connectivity on stock rom is definitely very good, especially when you are moving from place to place(i.e not sitting at one place all the time which has decent connectivity). The data/voice connectivity, making best use of dual sim etc etc are very good. I guess Asus is sacrificing battery to achieve that(there is a relatively high standby drain on stock rom), but I think it is worth it. But, the custom roms I used so far did not appear to be on par with stock rom in this area(but the battery life is pretty good though).
So, any custom roms with good network connectivity? (preferably with dual 4g/volte), I prefer not to root and depend upon external kernels/modules though. I keep missing OTPs(or delayed OTPs), poor voice and data connectivity, WIFI voice calling is not that good either. I was hoping I don't have to switch back to stock rom.
Thanks in advance.

For pie I would suggest LOS 16 and for Q try PixelExperience rom.
These both are decent and stable roms with no bugs and stock experience. Minimal roms with no customisation.

Thank you. Tried Los 16(official), did not appear to have good connectivity(I think it is still in initial phase, might get better with time, I'll give it a try again). I have yet to try PixelExperience Q.
I just realized that there is this rom called - stockrom mod. I believe it is developed on top of stock rom, not sure, but I'll give it a try.

Yeah, that's the stock rom with some tweaks. You might find it usefull.
I have not noticed any significant difference in network connectivity and speed. The signal bar in Los pie may may give you a false impression of low signal strength. If you check under sim status its pretty much same with all. And yes i am saying this after using stock rom, Los pie abd pixel experience Q.
Okay, the problem appears to be in stock rom too (I think it is pie only, i think it was fine in oreo), you can find several posts in zentalk forums too complaining same apparently, asus doesn't give a damn. I confirmed there is something wrong with either device (hardware) or software (All pie roms), by switching sim cards to different phones. They all showed no problems.
There is a remedy for this - lock the lte bands., it works!!, at least for most of the cases, i myself saw the effect immediately. I use dual Sim (airtel and jio).
But you need to root the device. Root your device snd install network signal guru. Click "lock bands" from settings, click lte, you'll see bunch of bands - B1, B3, B5.... Find the bands your data sim runs on (you can use this link - https://www.datareign.com/4g-circles-in-india.html/amp), by trial and error find the bands which give you better speed/reliability.
I use below configuration for good data reliability (to play pubg) and moderate speed on data sim(jio) , without having to loose call connectivity on airtel sim (I use it for calls and secondary data)
B5(jio), B1, B8(airtel)
I am not exactly on reasoning behind this, but I just tried not use bands which are common for both Sims, i think that is why i kept loosing call connectivity on airtel sim. A common band might have given good data on one sim but ended up giving bad call connectivity on the other, and vice versa.
