Hello guys,
i had, like most of you i think, a problem, when taking photos in very low light environments
the problem was the focus, that was pretty impossible to achieve
why this? because there is the lack of FLASH TO FOCUS ( present in all phones)
I then read here and there, and seems that someone got this features, someone's not.. weird
but i found a working workaround
When i owned a HTC desire, i bought an app called "Vignette"
this app ( maybe also others app) got the TORCH to focus, that is working very good on HTC One
how it works? it light always up the torch, letting you focus like in daylight and then shoot the photo
i know can be a little dumb, but at least we can focus also in these scenes..
Let me know
When you are in normal mode, and enable flash (for some odd reason it is turned off completely by default..) it does flash to focus.. works fine for me anyhow
For me it flashes only when shooting

You can use the torch mode in camerazoom fx as well
Torch mode in Camera360 as well

Motorola's camera-app is a real pain... You have to try a different cam-app from the market. My suggestion is "Camera 360". There is a free trail version at the market. This cam-app provides not only "funny" effects, but also a better image-(post)processing, and also the ability to choose a 100%-jpeg-quality setting, so that saving-artifacts are reduced to a minimum.
At the German Forum "Android-Hilfe.de" we've discussed this topic a while ago and some people were complaining that the autofocus hasn't worked at all (blurry pictures etc.).
So if you're not hearing any sound coming out of the MS2 (I don't mean a speaker-sound! I mean clicker-sound directly from where the cam is!) while you starting the cam-app, or while your holding the cam-button half way down, you have probably a hardware-failure!
If you are getting stripes, you probably have the cameras 'scene' set to something like Steady Shot, make sure the scene is on auto (changing from steady shot to auto removed the vertical bands from my photos when under fluro lights).
And strange sound when camera is starting up
Tested but problem still persist. E-mail to complaint Motorola but they tell me this is due to hardware limitation. Helpless!!!
I upgraded from the Galaxy S to the Galaxy S 2 a few months ago and realized the stock camera app does not come with panoramic shot anymore. Been using another app for this but it is not as seamless or smooth as the built in function with the original Galaxy S. GS2 also has less shooting modes (for one the add-me function, it used to be a lot of fun adding random objects to the photo without post edit). I'm now very tempted to buy the Note as that was the phone I intended to get instead of the GS2 - but does the Note have the panoramic shot built-in with the stock camera app? Also the flash on my GS2 seems harsh (blindingly bright) which I'm sure I can tweak if I know how (if you can educate me know that it would be much appreciated), does the flash on the Note go as bright? My work phone which is a HTC Desire HD has a similar flash but it is not as bright and the photos come out better...
Thanks in advance!
The stock app on note has panoramic mode.
The note I feel takes better pics then sg2 even though the hardware is same

Stock app is better than all others ^^
I've tried Camera 360, FX Camera and many others...

What are you talking about... the Galaxy SII does have a Panoramic function. I've just checked mine and it's there.
I also checked mine and I have Panorama, it's in the options and not just a simple flick of a button! You need to hit the options, and then shooting mode then select Panorama. SGS2 stock rom!
I can't wait for my Note!
Does note's stock camera app have time laps mode?

I can't prove it since I sold my SGSII, but somehow I have the same feeling the Note takes better photos. Quick pics I took to test its details: http://imageshack.us/g/546/20111219094914w.jpg/
(warning: large files)
I looked for the panoramic mode before under options and I can swear it wasn't there. I went and bought a pano app and have since rooted my phone and now found the panoramic mode in my stock camera app after a comment above!
Thanks for pointing it out

I would like the panoramic mode if it didn't lose so much resolution, i think you can get beter results by taking the photos in normal mode and use some Panorama software to make the photo.
As the title says I've used a Galaxy S3 for a year and just now I jumped the wagon into the Note line but I used to take macro shots at a daily basis but with this camera there's just no option and in auto mode it isn't as macro as it should be, why is this feature gone? Do you guys have any solution?

Different Camera app.
I ditched Stock Camera because there's no Manual mode. (or if there is I haven't found it.) I'm a photographer, I don't need some idiot in a factory choosing the settings for me...
Ditto, sometimes I just want to do it by myself and this camera is neither for average Joe's or for us what app are you using?

ProCapture. It doesn't have an ISO setting (which is irritating), but it does have most other settings. I don't bother looking for an aperture or shutterspeed setting on a mobile device as those settings have little function on a smartphone, but for the everyday use, this app functions best out of all I've tried.
Plus it has a mute setting. It is rather slow at 13MP in terms of saving, though.
I've also got PhotoFX Zoom, ShotControl and FV5 installed.
Truth be told I haven't managed to find a perfect camera app for photographers. Funny how all of android is customisable and user-controlled... except the camera, which appears to be aimed at the average iSheep.
Focal (by Chainfire) looks promising, but is a rather unstable Beta.
If anyone has any suggestions, please do share. Spare me the 'effects-cameras' though. I know how to use Photoshop. Something that works with RAW files would be absolutely ideal.
I would like to know from another owner whether he faces the same problem with this phone. i wonder if this problem has anything to do with the sony sensor. or is it a malfunction of my own phone.
The problem is taking pictures in (low ?) light, indoor conditions. If I switch off the flash and try to focus, that is touch focus on a close piece of text such as , a fine print on a prescription, the camera will just not focus. I wonder if anyone else has faced the same problem.
Perhaps some other owner can do a similar test and fault their feedback here Now if you turn on the flash in low light conditions , I mean indoor conditions (they are not really low light,) then with flash on the pictures are nice..It leads me to think that in low light conditions the camera depends on the reflection from flash to achieve good focusing.
When I use an iPhone 4 in similar condition the iPhone camera will focus
Very precisely without any flash. the Sony sensor here is IMX215 and the iPhone 4 has an Omni vision ov8850
Please let me your thoughts
.

Try to use camera mx from playstore
I'm already using other camera apps that offer a lot of options in terms of focusing but the problem is the camera itself will not focus up close unless flash is turned on . If you have the same camera can you try it at your end and share your results - switch off the flash and focus on small print in doors and tell me if it focus correctly

It is happening to me too. I think it's a software problem, not a hardware one. Let's hope that the stable lollipop will solve this.
If I use this app open camera then I can get slightly better pictures without flash in low light conditions for close ups by changing the various focus options
So I do not expect it to improve w lollipop .this is the limitation of the camera under low light conditions . They use a good sensor but just standard or possibly substandard lens so the full potential of the sensor cannot be exploited.
buying the cheaper Chinese brand cameras get you compromised someplace . If they do a good job and sensor they will short on the lens. Xperia cameras have the g lens from sony and I think that makes a good diff.
For this one I think when the flash turned on it uses the flash to focus as well so without flash it relies on passive light coming and so the focusing is not precise . Why can't they just charge 50 dollars more and put in a class lens to match the sensor.
Anyways do you have a place where I can upgrade to lollipop. I was looking around for lollipop rom

First day with this fabulous device. Came from Note 7. The only disappointment so far is the camera, especially low light. I'm wondering if it's just the app itself. I downloaded LIGHTROOM and I'm getting better results but has anyone found another camera app that works well?

"A Better Camera" seems to take better quality pictures in low light (just testing it at my desk). It crashes on setting image size in the setting though (but not from the in app menu).
However, it's video function doesn't let you set resolution/rate and such like the built in app.

People seem to like "snap camera" app the most especially on low light. Maybe you can try this.

The Best Camera app I use is "Camera FV-5" its only a Camera not a video recorder though, its a professional camera soo yeah

None of these seemed to make a difference for me. Mist be the hardware.

1) As a general point, low light photography is the weak point of the Axon 7 camera
2) You can try open camera. I have had good results. It is a free open source app
One thing i found just by mistake, was if you tap on where you would like to focus in low light conditions it will turn on nightmode and give slightly better picture.
Anyone able to extract the stock camera app?
Can u use Google camera ?

I was not impressed with Snap camera's low light performance. I actually think it's worse than the stock camera app.
Cinema fv-5 for better video
And the app called: 'a better camera' for better pictures

Yes, Google camera works great... Not any improvement in quality, but works great. Not like it did on the Nexus 6P (not able to swipe to change from camera to video, have to use swipe-out menu).
If you have the ZTE camera open, then try to open Google camera (or any other), you'll get an error the camera is in use by another app.

You should be able to extract it from any of the stock system partition images -- either direct from ZTE's files or from DrakenFX TWRP backup versions.

The default camera app already has the best options for low light. It's just a trade-off between shutter speed and grain. You can use SUPER NIGHT mode or ISO100 mode in manual to get less grain but you have to hold still to avoid blur. SUPER NIGHT seems to make a composite to reduce blur though.
Any sample shots using super night mode?
Zte is not using the CameraApi2 so you won't get the same quality with a 3rd party camera app.
I've personally found that HDR works quite well in low light, sometimes making the shot look brighter than real life. The only annoying part is keeping the phone steady to avoid blur.
