You really don't need github or coding skills for porting roms
Building from source is what needs linux + coding + device/vendor tree basics + github skills
If you wanna build from source then their are many guides
I'll be syncing Xylon Sources this week maybe

Its used to 1) update the aosp kernels to gingerbread, 2) create sense kernels with modifications.
Sw33t! Also yes, this will help improve the kernel to oc, and for battery life, the hdmi streaming, etc

You don't. OP should update his title to say "GB KERNEL SOURCE RELEASED". It's just source code to build a working kernel from. The source that we need to make custom kernels.

This is the source code for compiling the kernel that's already out and about. The usefulness of this is that developers can start tearing it apart and tweaking it.
I'm guessing that there must be some kind of GB kernel specific exploit so the rumor would be true that it would work across all HTC GB phones. Time to finally go ROM shopping in the Dev section.

Another noob question:
How useful is the kernel with regards to root access. I thought that what was holding temp root back on gingerbread was the fact that were no exploits found that could utilize Superuser permissions. Would this be useful for finding a possible exploit?
Seems like most everyone are just waiting around for Alpharevx and Unrevoked to issue the their unlock, or HTC to finally unlock the phone in September. September seems a long way off for an Evo user to be stuck on boring old sense 2.0 though. I don't own an evo, but I have friends that want root and I have been checking forums everyday to no avail... Just a bunch of whiny self entitled children fighting over why others haven't worked harder at finding this illusive "root".
Awesome, about time HTC! It's Friday we'll probably have some new stuff to flash early next week.
Sweet ass sweet!

No. Kernel have nothing to do with that error. It's probably because of incompatible libaudio.
BTW. Good luck with project...

Firstly, this isn't the right section for this kind of topics, someone should move it!
Secondly, who said that CM10 isn't working? There are some booting builds from ErwinP in this thread, lookup at the last posts, but its still in developing process and much things aren't working good or at all, the biggest of which is the WiFi. This video is just showing one of Erwin's builds

[Req] Stock 4.4.2 port

Hello S2 lovers. Today I managed to get my hands on the note 2 4.4.2 and I began the biggest project : Porting 4.4.2 Touchwizz ROM. So I have a unfinished varyant of it... My problem is that I don't have Ubuntu and I can't decompile kernal and recompile it... So here is my request : I need someone who knows how to edit a kernal and who has Ubuntu to help me with the ROM... Also , if we manage to make a bootable version I need a name for the ROM . And I want you to think at a name.
Thanks in advance

The kernel is the easy part, I can take care of that for you.
The question is how you will make it boot as framework, libs etc need probably a lot of changes

Is the kernel the more easy part? It would be excellent, if you could make it as soon as possible. :good:
Share the kernel from your 4.4.2 rom and i will look into it.
But here is a good tip: use a CM11 kernel from s2 and change the framework, libs etc. Trust me to make it boot you dont need to focus that much on kernel but more on the files in the rom. So start by porting, i am sure you will get bootloop in first attemt so adb a logcat and take it from there. I sure hope you can adb.
