What is filter installer? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

From what I understand it is the process that filters apps that don't work for your phone. However, I've ran carat and it says I need to restart or kill it to obtain 5 hours of battery life. Can I disable it or what can I do? I am running stock rom, not rooted, completely stock. Thanks so much!

Don't know if you're still having this issue a month later.
Based on what you read, you can just disable it. You don't need a filter installer or a method of filter apps for your device. When you attempt to install apps for your device, the play store will let you know before installing that the app is compatible with your device.

Hi guys, are you sure that is the case? That the market app will check? I know it scans for malicious apps now in 2017/18, but what if you install an app on beta from dev's web site?? Durant the Filter Installer then kick in???
Cheers

[Q] How do I install multiple apps with my app

I am creating an app that requires a couple of other apps... my first idea was to check to see if the app is installed if not open the market page so the user could d/l. Now it looks like that won't work, I need to know if it is possible to bundle the other .apks with my app somehow so that when my app is installed it will also install the other required apps. Can this be done?
I'm also wondering this

maybe for my HTC thunderbolt but not his samsung galaxy s i told him to look for that first
I'm pretty sure I have read from somewhere that phones released for Verizon by Samsung don't allow you to install non-market applications (this is requested by Verizon, so it's not really Samsung's fault). The only way to have that feature is to flash some custom rom.
I watched a video on how to root this phone and there is a one click root and the program has a button that will change it so it will allow non market apps but I want to know if it has to be rooted or not to do it

For non-market apps your device doesn't have to be rooted.
Only if you want to use apps that require root.

How to remove root (un-root) device without clearing apps and data?

I have an app that refuses to run because my Nexus 7 is rooted. So I would like to remove root and keep this app installed.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Not tried it my self but on SuperSU Play description it says that if you uninstall it, you will lose root:
NOTICE: A SPECIAL PROCEDURE IS NEEDED FOR UNINSTALLATION. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE APP, DO *NOT* JUST UNINSTALL IT, YOU *WILL* LOSE ROOT.
I would guess that if you have Super User installed, it would do the same thing.
I tried the "temp unroot" function of the superuser app and the app still recognized the root and refused to run.
I will try un-installing superuser now. Thanks for the idea, I will report back.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Some applications I believe look for the superuser application by name. So if it sees "superuser.apk" on the system it won't run. However, I know some in the past were able to be worked around by renaming the superuser application.
I don't know if this is still a valid method, but...yeah.

Try an app called OTA Root Keeper (voodoo). It will temp unroot. You then need to normally force close the app you are talking about and the run it and it should work.
When you are done if you use a lot of root apps you can the undo the temp unroot and be back to full root.
Some versions of su have that ability now too but I've not tried them yet... don't really have anything that cares if I am rooted any more.

I've tried using the temp-unroot feature of the superuser app and I was not able to do so. I wish I knew what this app was looking for.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Download supermanager from playstore, enable the root function in settings. Swipe over to tge next screen and select uninstall apps and uninstall superuser. Then reboot. That should do ut.

What app is it?
Sent from my Nexus 7
The app is called Jeppesen Mobile TC and you will only be able to download it if you have a 9-10 inch tab with honeycomb or ICS running. I managed to get the apk so if someone wants it to try please let me know.
I will try the above shortly. Many thanks!

I just tried this and it seems to have removed root like you said yet the application still thinks I have root. I un-installed the app and reinstalled it after rebooting.
The app runs fine on my gfs Nexus 7 which has never been rooted.
Hmmmmm

[Q] How to Freeze OTA

Hello all,
Bit of a newb question here, but this is the first time I've messed with rooting my N4, and it's been quite a while since I've done this.
I'm running my N4 rooted but non-rom'd with some custom tweaks thanks to the Xposed installer. However since I did this, I can't update the phone, so I'd like to freeze the OTA update. I know to use TiBu, but can't seem to figure out what I need to freeze. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Google service framework would stop OTA but unsure if it would stop anything else important. Could always freeze and see.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Don't freeze the update, there's valuable stuff in there they will benefit your phone.
Just deselect the module in xposed, flash the update and reselect.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I also use sms backup+ which doesn't work on anything higher than 4.4.0
I think there is an app (or maybe xposed module) that stops the ota from being downloaded I'll try to remember what it's called

[q] lg l7 rooted or not?

Hi everyone! I have a question about LG P705 4.1.2 V20B. I tried to root my phone following this guide. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2486512) First tried this one using framaroot but it didn't worked (App keeps crashing,or gives me error#7) then I tried this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448085) .After this process is done I installed SuperSu app from Play Store and I can use the apps that require root. But when I run a test using Root checker it says that my phone doesn't have a proper root access. So I wonder that if I wanna flash custom ROMS etc. Will I be able to do it ? Thanks!

When you use data connection you use 3G after every "sesion" I dont know how to call that xd switch to 2G. No 2G/3G, only 2G. Signal is much better, and use lesser battery. After all of this ypu will have good battery life.
