I have an app that refuses to run because my Nexus 7 is rooted. So I would like to remove root and keep this app installed.

Not tried it my self but on SuperSU Play description it says that if you uninstall it, you will lose root:
NOTICE: A SPECIAL PROCEDURE IS NEEDED FOR UNINSTALLATION. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE APP, DO *NOT* JUST UNINSTALL IT, YOU *WILL* LOSE ROOT.
I would guess that if you have Super User installed, it would do the same thing.
I tried the "temp unroot" function of the superuser app and the app still recognized the root and refused to run.
I will try un-installing superuser now. Thanks for the idea, I will report back.

Some applications I believe look for the superuser application by name. So if it sees "superuser.apk" on the system it won't run. However, I know some in the past were able to be worked around by renaming the superuser application.
I don't know if this is still a valid method, but...yeah.

Try an app called OTA Root Keeper (voodoo). It will temp unroot. You then need to normally force close the app you are talking about and the run it and it should work.
When you are done if you use a lot of root apps you can the undo the temp unroot and be back to full root.
Some versions of su have that ability now too but I've not tried them yet... don't really have anything that cares if I am rooted any more.

Download supermanager from playstore, enable the root function in settings. Swipe over to tge next screen and select uninstall apps and uninstall superuser. Then reboot. That should do ut.

The app is called Jeppesen Mobile TC and you will only be able to download it if you have a 9-10 inch tab with honeycomb or ICS running. I managed to get the apk so if someone wants it to try please let me know.

Hello. Can you explain the process you followed to make this app run in a Nexus 7. Because I downloaded the apk from a russian site in my Nexus 7 (non-rooted) and after the installation the app ask for me my name and activate number and I can´t do anything more.

Yes, you are right. But the IPAD you have the same problem and now is posible to intall the
Cycled without subscription.

I have a Nexus 7 too.
Can you start the app JeppTC like a demo?, because I can't see the "DEMO" button when I start the app.

Comrades, Just got myself a Nexus7 and rooted it as soon as I got home but titanium backup gives me an error message saying could not open and my device may not be properly rooted!! I used the root tool app.
Can I re root using the same steps without any damage ?

You need to unlock bootloader first before you can root.
Make sure to backup your data, it will be wiped when unlock the bootloader.

Do you really need titanium backup right now? if you just bought it and tried to root it as soon as you got home, you shouldnt have anything on your device of importance do you? lol
if you did get root, titanium needs a busybox installed for it to work. get the busybox app by stericson at the market. open the app, install busybox.

Yes, like most people I've spent a couple of days tweaking, downloading, transferring files and basicly using the tablet.
I did not sit will an empty tablet waiting to sort out the titanium problem. Thanks.

As far as I know it is not rooting that wipes it. It's unlocking the boot loader. So, yes. You can have root permissions but not be able to flash anything.
Oh... So if i wanna root and flash another rom I will have to wipe? And if so what is the easiest way? Link?

In order to root you will have to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader wipes the Nexus7

Yes, I actually did that..... In beginning I had driver problems but after that man I gotta say wugs toolkit is awesome... Except for the fact that backup takes a hell of a time compared Any other backup. But yah thanks anyways

Are you serious? So when I root with that kit and adbbackup with that kit and restore I wil not lose all my gaming progress? I only want toroot if that is posible.

Well just to make sure, I would get my backup from the play store, backup ur apps and then do the backup from the tool kit so that the toolkit backup backs up the my backup app... After u do that, restore with the toolkit and then restore with the app...

Use: mybackup this app doesn't require root and is good. So use this and then use the tool kit as well to backup....

What about pre-installed apps?
I've been searching for an answer to a similar question. I want to unlock/root my Nexus 7 straight out of the box (it's getting delivered Monday) so I don't have to worry about losing everything down the road when I start doing stuff that requires root access. What I want to know is this: If the very first thing I do with the Nexus 7 is root it, will it essentially be the same as if I hadn't rooted it? In other words, would all of the pre-installed stuff still be there (ie. maps, gmail, etc)? Is there anything on the device before rooting that would be gone after rooting, and if something is gone, is it just a matter of re-installing it from the Play store?
This is a terrible noob question, but I want my first experience with my Nexus 7 to be just as it would have been if I *hadn't* rooted it for a while, but avoid the headache of having to wipe everything once I eventually decide to start messing around with it. Any and all info is appreciated!
Dude don't worry, when you get it, just root it like how the other guy showed in this forum. Don't install anything but root it and then do all your stuff. Rooting doesn't do anything or doesn't change the interface. After you root everything should be the same.. Maybe you will loose some Google apps but you can easily download those from the app store again. What will change depends on you. When you root it, you can install custom roms... That is what changes your interface and stuff. But that's your choice.

Cool, yeah. I just wasn't sure if when it wiped during the unlock if anything that would be annoying to get back would be lost. I don't mind reinstalling stock apps as long as they're easy to get, but if there had been anything special that gets wiped out then I'd be hesitant to actually do it. Knowing myself, I know that at some point I'm going to want to start messing around with different ROMs and stuff, so like I said I'd rather just root it from day 1 even if I don't plan to do anything right away so I don't have to deal with wiping it a month down the road .

I've tried using version 1.8 of Wugs Toolkit for my Nexus 7 2012. My tablet has been very unstable. It's on 4.4.2 and never been rooted. I can't uninstall apps without crashing and if I can they are there when I reboot it.
With the Toolkit I can't get it to unlock my device. I get developer access and click the unlock button but it will not unlock it. I don't care if I lose everything on the tablet I just want a stable tablet back again.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I should add that I do get the screen that says proceeding will void warranty. Choose Yes to continue. I choose Yes and my tablet just boots up and is still locked. The version of Android is KOT49H is currently on my tablet. It's WiFi 2012 edition.
I have also tried to do a Factory Reset and it goes to the bootloader screen and says it's wiping cache then device but my tablet reboots and nothing has changed.
The last thing I should add is that my tablet does recognize my ADB device and passed the toolkit configuration with success. The tootlkit can see my tablet it just won't complete the unlock.
As per title, Can I delete busybox free, quick boot and supersu after rooting?
I have used the video title on youtube: How to Root the Google Nexus 4 - Latest, to root my device, was just wondering if I were able to delete those files after rooting or are they required? (I'll be installing ParanoidAndroid soon).

If you want to use root apps busy box(usually) needs to be installed and super user is a requirement.

No I haven't let. I only have a few apps downloaded. Including ROM manager and that's about it oh ya and Skype cud that be the issue?

It happens to me sometimes due to a faulty kernel. It happened on stock too though. It shouldn't really be a problem and doesn't happen often to me. It went away after a day or so anyways.

try this, just as an easy possible solution.. boot into your custom recovery and wipe the dalvik and cache, nothing else, then reboot.
I've gotten the notification for the 4.4.4 OTA twice and when I tap to install, it reboots into TWRP and nothing else happens.
I've included a screenshot of the error it gives me. 4.4.3 installed flawlessly without a hiccup. I don't understand what is happening now.
BTW, phone is on stock, rooted and as you can see, I've got TWRP.
I think the /system verify check is failing due to modified contents. Flash stock 4.4.3 /system partition through fastboot and try to apply the ota again.

Just did a search for the apk/app and I don't seem to have it on my system. My guess is I need to install the Cloud Print app from Play?
Yup, you can try that. If you still get errors, instead of hunting down every problem present, it would be a lot easier to return system to stock.

Well, I've installed the Google Cloud Print app. Now I have to wait a few days to get the OTA update notification again and see if it goes through.
What is a bit puzzling is the fact that I had no issues updating to 4.4.3
You could just download the 4.4.4 ota zip from here and flash it through TWRP. Much faster and the same thing.

Ok so, after getting the OTA once again and trying the zip file. I keep getting the MD5 error message and the cloundprint2.apk message.
I don't quite understand the apk issue as I do not have a cloudprint2 app...

That's the problem. It's looking for that app and it's not there. Put the attached in /system/app. Make sure the permissions are rw,r,r

ES Explorer is not giving me the option to change permissions (properties) much less move the file into the system/app folder

OK, I think I might have to go this route because after stubbornly getting the apk to change permissions and to move the file to the system>app folder, I ran the zip file and got yet another error... I really do not understand.
I have done nothing to my phone aside from adding an app or two since the 4.4.3 OTA....
Yup, much easier to flash the system image than to hunt down every error present.
