I have noticed with my i9505, even though in wifi advanced settings i have the setting to keep wifi on during sleep to to on, it sometimes seems like its off once my phone turns the screen off.
there has been a few times when i have set a few apps to download, then ive let the screen go off a few seconds later, i have then turned the phone back on a few minutes later to find that the downloads have not yet started, and they just seem to instantly start when i turn my phone on.
is this normal?
thanks
James

Goto your phone - click on the keypad - just press *#0011#
Ull get into the Service Mode....
Once in service mode - Press the key on the left of the home button... A screen will pop up - Select WiFi
Once u select WiFi another screen will pop up where u will see a button "ON"....
Click on it and it will turn into "off"
Press the back button and exit... your WiFi will restart and now it won't switch off...
Good luck!

Thank you Hassan, I've not had time to try this out yet, but it seems the setting i am looking for.
Did you find any alternative solution as this one spends 10%more battery.

Thanks man. What i did before was download terminal emulator and ping google.com so it wont drop its connection
It spends 10% more battery. keeps the machine warm. also you have to repeat it every time you reset the phone.
It dont sound like a solution.

I went to check something on my galaxy s but it wasn't responding. I tried holding the power button and tried to get it into recovery and download mode but nothing happened.
I then removed the battery and put it back in and it turned on as normal.

Known sleep-to-death problem. It happens on all ROMs I have tried on my phone. Happens more after a phone call. I was recently on holydays on another country and turned phone off, to use the SGS as a GPS navigation device only and I could suspend and resume it and use the GPS all day and it does not hang.
Just make a call, let it go to sleep and it may not wake up when you press the home or power button.
You don't have to remove the battery, just press the power button 10 seconds, phone will reboot.
I didn't make a call though. I was just on facebook then went back to the homescreen and locked my phone using lock screen widget which I have been using for months without a problem. A minute later I went to unlock it and it wouldn't respond. I tried holding the power button for atleast 8 seconds n nothing.

Pile of ****. Does NOT happen on all roms. It may happen on all roms you flash. More likely a problem with your phone, or user error.
Post the roms and your route to flashing, and then we will be able to advise.

Every rom I have tried this continues to happen.
I click the home or power button and the screen takes a while to turn on.
Is there something that can be done to turn the screen on instantly like other phones? This is a beast in speed and its so slow at turning on it's crazy.
I even OC and nothing.
Any ideas, is this normal for this phone?
Yes it is normal. it is waking from deep sleep into normal mode.
No its not normal... Connected to a charger it comes instant.

Yes its normal on battery .
jje
I wonder whether it's to do with the processor being underclocked whilst the screen is off and it takes a little while to wake up and get up to speed.
My Nexus S was similar when I used a screen off profile in setcpu.
It seems to be because of double tap for voice activation. So after single press the system is waiting for a second tap input to possibly start voice command before waking up.

If you use an app that don't let the phone going deep sleep mode (i have forgot its name btw you can google it) the wake up is instant...so is deep sleep related nothing to do with double tap
I dunno why in these phone the deep sleep is to deep XD but I allways hope that someone will fix it a day

So why is there a delay when using power button ?

Is due to the deep sleep policy and maybe it is related with the exynos cpu and how it handle the deep sleep.
But it's only a supposition of mine.

I think its the driver for suspend state of the device..samsung is infamous at sucking in making those (drivers in general)..

Yea...started happening to me a few days ago. Try totally disabling the lock screen, and see if it stops. If it does, you can enable it again. Are you using the regular slider lock screen? That's what I was using when it happened. I used face unlock for almost 2 days, and it never happened. I'm not running any lock screen now that I'm home, and its fine. Its just weird that it randomly started happening...I've never used a third party lock screen or even messed with the default settings for it to happen.
Yeah im using the stock lock sliders. I'll play with the lock sliders tonight when I get home and see how that goes.

Something strange is going on with my N4, every time I try to open my settings it just closes it again almost instantly. Also I've noticed that if I turn off wifi it turns itself back on straight away and then it goes into silent mode for a second (speaker symbol with dash through it) then back to full volume. I've tried restarting it and uninstalling recent apps. I am thinking about doing a factory reset but don't want to if I can help it... But I can't anyway because I can't get into settings! Nothing shows up in virus scans. Screen briefly flashes black regularly too. Any suggestions please? Thanks.

Try going to safe mode by press and holding the power button which will take you to the power menu, press and hold power off option and then you will get a safe mode popup, press Ok and after a reboot check if the settings open.

I can get the settings to stay open in safe mode but still same problem when I restart it again...

Try these
Option 1:
Try turning on "Smart Stay (Screen stays on as long as you are looking at it)". Settings > Display.
Option 2:
Try turning off "Auto Screen Off During Calls (Turn on proximity sensor during calls)". Click the Phone App > Menu Button > Call Settings.
Option 3:
Try doing a Battery Pull while the phone is on and wait 30 seconds before putting it back in.
I have tried the option 1 and 2 already but I can't find d second option, where is call setting option in menu.? I can't find it, I find call setting option in logs but dere isn't any option of proximity sensor Plz. Help

The Proximity Toggle is under Phone > Option (left) softkey > call settings. Not System settings. (Call settings has never been under system settings on EU phones)
Also, is 'The PowerKey ends Calls' enabled under Answering/Ending calls there? Because when it is, you can't you the on/off key to turn on the screen.
