Rattling noise in my S4 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

When shaking my S4 I hear this loud rattling noise, I just noticed it yesterday and my Vibrating doesn't work. Any idea what could be causing this I talked to Samsung and they going to fix it but now I'll be out of a phone for a week and a half

Oh no, the GS4 is turning into the iPhone 5.

Sounds like the tiny little electric motor used for vibration has come loose...

Every iphone 5 I picked up, including the 3 I owned all had rattling issues. Seemed like something was loose in them. My friend's iPhone 5 didn't do this.

Be careful. Read the fine print. If they find evidence of damage from handling, they will bill you repair costs...

ive had this phone in the case since day one

Open camera app, shake phone again... rattle gone?

What happened is the little counterweight came off of the motor. The motor still spins, but since the counterweight popped off, you can't tell. Best bet is warranty, or replacing the motor yourself.

Loose Volume Rocker?

Aloha People!
Just got my Fascinate and damn its good! I noticed that my volume rockers makes noises when the phone is shook. I heard it first when I was playing with it and realized it was the rocker. The rocker itself doesn't feel loose but when the I shake the phone I can hear it rattle.
Did I get a lemon? Or is it normal?
Thanks!
I've had mine since launch and it does that. I dunno why but it doesn't bother me I love this thing.

I don't want to if its normal.
I'm not saying its normal. I got mine on launch day at a local store and when I shake it I can hear the rocker but it doesn't actually feel loose so I'm not to worried about it. Its a judgement call man.
they call me...kick ass
Mine rattles. Is it mildly annoying? Yes. Does it in any way want me to exchange my Fascinate for anything else? Heck no!!!
Mine has has the volume rocker rattle since day one. It works fine and doesn't even really feel loose. I bought a silicon case for it and now the volume rocker doesn't rattle anymore.
I'd say it's normal. Drove me nuts at first but the case has solved my issue.
My Vibrant had this issue and it is a manufacture defect. I had it replaced with a fresh new Vibrant.
My girlfriend's fascinate's volume rocker does not rattle. It is a known defect for the Vibrant so maybe it's the same for the Fascinate.
Yeah mine rattled from day one. I'm going to the Verizon store to get a replacement this weekend.

any luck? I found that its the back cover that doesn't sit flush with the volume rocker that causes it to rattle.
I got mine last week and it doesn't rattle.
This is my second android phone since the G1 and I just switched from a blackberry. This phone amazes me everyday
One thing I don't like is that it's hard to select between letters when I want to correct something and I can't select texts from websites and emails.

Well i went to the VZ store. The rep there told me that it is a known thing on the fascinate and is common on all of them. He replaced mine anyways and i noticed it didn't really rattle and it felt like it was on there pretty tight. That was until i started taking the battery cover off. So in other words i think you are right

Is this fixable? Broken Screen

My friend gave me his Bell Galaxy S3 it is a SGH-I747M to repair if I can.
He said he was making a video while driving a car at about 80kmh and dropped the phone out the window and this is the result. The back panel barely even has a scratch. The bezel has few bruises but the screen is totally destroyed. It's possible that a car ran it over I'm not sure.
The screen does not turn on at all. I can charge the phone, I can hear it turn on and it makes sounds and vibrates during the opening video, it still receives text messages and phone calls as you can hear the notifications go off. And the touch key buttons (back and menu) still light up. The leds at the top still light up too.
I'd think so. Try getting a replacement screen (maybe give it a month and wait for a bad esn phone) and replace it.
My concern would be if the ..oh what the hell is it called, the capacitive touch pick-up part? is damaged. Screen itself shouldnt be too expensive or hard to replace, but that part could prove to be quite the tit.
iFixit has a teardown of the SGS3 that seems to indicate that it might be harder - or at least, more expensive - than you think: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-Teardown/9391/1

Yeah, it's not easy, but it is doable. This site http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-Teardown/9391/1#.T-AmIxeXSjP will show you a Teardown of the Samsung Galaxy S III. Also here's a youtube video http://www.google.com/url?q=http://...twIwAA&usg=AFQjCNG6aQgFNGyrNHDUzCcLecgR7qRHvA on How to Replace Screen to walk you through it.
Hope This Help's
The phone is still alive. Only the screen is pretty much useless now. Either sen it to Samsung and have them repair at an expensive fee or do it yourself which is $200~. My vibrant had the same symptoms too. I wouldn't imagine a phone that survived after dropping out of a car running at 80 kmh
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
if the phone is still under warranty, i would just send it in for repair rather than doing it yourself, which will almost certainly void the warranty. chances you get a working phone are 100% if you do that
in my experience it is better to send back to manufacturer for repair or a 3rd party than trying to do it yourself, especially if you don't have a lot of experience with cell phone hardware.
Just get insurance for it. Then after 30days call them tell them the screen is broken and they either fix it or replace ur phone. That is the best thing to do.

Sammy warranty does not cover this.
i would still recommend sending it back to samsung for repair.
i would also tell your friend to refrain from activities which could send his s3 charging towards the ground at 80+KPH in the future

here's my point: don't do it yourself unless you're very confident you won't mess it up. and considering you posted on this forum to begin with, you probably need to send it in

Bumper muffling calls

Well basically people have a hard time hearing me with the bumper on. The mic is exposed but it's deep in the bumper so it destroys the sound. So in theory you have to take it off or your calls sounds muffled unless you speak up. I was talking kind of low to my brother and he said it sounded like I was covering my mouth and going in and out. Add soon as I removed the bumper he heard me crystal clear. Also if I actually take the phone from my ear and talk directly in to the mic he can hear me. But he says it's still muffled. Had many people tell me that.
Any one else?
Also, any people notice the center of the phone vibrates per spoken word when in a call and the person is talking to you? Like it's on speaker phone but it's not? Volume at normal to mid. No buzzing sounds though or cracking.
Trying to see if I need to just replace my unit or is this normal.

The official one. From Google. Why would I post about a knock off???
If you speak loudly there's no issues at all. However, if you're in the room with a newborn like me or a sleeping woman or work you have to speak lowly then the person will 100% not be able to hear you.

My Nexus 4 hasn't shipped yet and they were out of bumpers when I ordered it so I don't know exactly what it looks like. But I had a similar thing happen on another phone and I opened up the hole in the case to better expose the mic. Can you open the mic hole on the bumper?

Tinkering sound when you shake it

I requested an RMA because of the buzzing noise near the earpiece and the sound of something loose when you shake the phone, but the RMA came with the same problems. Is this happening with everyone's phone? It's a bit unnerving..
My phone has both a slight buzzing and the shaking sound. The buzzing is so quiet I have to be smashing the phone against my ear to heart it. The shaking I believe one of the components of the camera. I believe the majority of the people here have the shaking "problem".

Thanks for the reply. Good to know.
I think it's the accelerometer that do this noise, my N4 do the same noise as well.

My sound is perfect. I do have a little rattle if I smack it gently with the palm of my hand. I don't do that much. No worries about it though for me.
I have a slight buzz if I hold it up to my ear, but never notice it otherwise. I think it rattles a bit also. Oh well, love it.
The rattle is the auto focus. it is not a defect
Treat your Nexus like a baby. Don't shake it.
I have earpiece sound as well as the sound of the camera-focus when I shake it. But I'm not going to RMA this as long as it does not harm my phone.
this is normal in all do not worry nexus
I'm pretty sure the shaking sound is actually the ejection mechanism for the SIM card. There was a post about it here somewhere.

No, that's actually the first thing I checked. The sound comes from the camera. At least in my case, maybe some people have different. Whatever, I'm gonna use for a few days and see if that bothers me.

This is true, my iPhone 5 and LG Optimus G both rattled the same way as my nexus 4.
Not trying to sound mean, but use the search feature next time. There are already mulitple posts and I think 2 threads about this exact problem. Just a hint for future problems. Chances are, whatever problem you have has already been discussed.
Why do u shake ur phone ?

I hear something loose inside the phone? Anyone else?

So I've just put the phone down on my desk(I use a giant 4ftx2ft desktop mouse pad) and heard an odd sound. I didn't just throw the phone on the desk but probably dropped it onto the desk from an inch away. Anyway, upon further investigation, it sounds like there' something loose inside the phone, possibly in the upper half near the camera. I took my phone and shook it up and down near my ear. Wondering if this is normal and does anyone else hear the same thing?
Could be the camera. OIS means there's actually moving parts in the mechanism. Typically if you shake phones with OIS you here a slight ticking.

Ok, I just shook my phone and I can hear the rattling too. My OCD senses are now tingling!
I'm not going to worry about it too much though. I haven't dropped my phone or anything, and it's working fine. I'm sure there will be times though when I've forgotten about it, then suddenly hear it if I shake my phone. Will probably be surprised, but will then remember what it is. Lol

I shake my phone and i hear nothing. . Hmmm, you guys could try by opening it and see whether you can find the issue. It is very easy to open it and close it again. And i doubt any carrier will notice it. or... If you guys are in the 14 days period to return the phone (if tmobile, im not sure about other carriers) then you might replace it

Oh yeah, for sure! I mean, a rattling noise normally means that something is broken! LG should probably have put a notice on the manual or something mentioning this. You know, for all of us who care for our phones.
If it is the ois it will stop if you have the camera app open. Mine also has the rattle but I believe it is likely the vibration feedback motor or weight causing it. I had two lg v10 loaner phones. One made noise one didn't.

I can confirm that it is the camera module. I opened up my device and poked around inside. The camera module furthest from the led flash floats.
