Hello,i am in hurry for sorry if i ask noob question. I buy HTC HD2 Europan version. Windows Mobile is default OS i have some experience with installing android on it. So here is my question:
- Is HTC HD2 really the beast ?
- How to extend battery life This is major problem
- Wich Android should i install that best works on HD2 ?
Thnks
1-That depends on the way you define beast. if you're talking about speed, then the answer is not. there are a lot of newer smartphones with more decent hardware that can operate a LOT faster and smoother. If you're talking about OS's it runs, then yeah. it's DA BEAST.
2-each OS has it's specific battery usage and life. This is from my own experience:
Windows mobile consumes the least of battery (or maybe it's artemis rom )
android sd builds consume more battery than nativeSD which consumes more battery than nand (thus replacing windows mobile)
windows phone has normal battery usage (lasts a day for me) but there are tricks to calibrate battery and get more out of it. i haven't tested though.
different android kernels may consume more battery, and with more apps running in the background the more battery is used.
3-which android........
everyone that come to xda asking about which rom is better gets flamed so i'll give you a few ones before you get flamed:

now go enjoy the freedom of roms with hd2, thanks its awesome developers and never ask which rom is the best again
There's a lot of questions asked and solved in the HTC HD2 Forum, Kindly take your time to exploit and learn, you are welcome
Thanks a lot Now i have other problems I can't connect on marketplace and i can't go on facebook :v It says that i can't connect .Btw i am connected to wi-fi network on my router.
And one more think i don't want to install Android on SD card .

In terms of stable WinMo is way ahead.
You can use it everyday if are ready to compromise - GPS is nowhere near WinMo.
Ocasional bugs with keyboard, camera, camcorder, laging.
To be honest - it's not "perfect" but i wouldn't go back to WinMo
Regarding best choice - no such thing. Flash as many as you can and see what suits your taste.
I can recommend Desire/DesireHD/Z builds. Their "stuff" is closer to HD2 specs and most of it works great.
Gingerbread has too many issues for me.
Cyanogen Froyo builds are great, i think those builds are really stable, but the design is not my favorite.
I think a lot of Android roms are close to stable.
I use it for everyday use without any problems.
The battery might be a little bit better in WinMo, but it lasts me a day without a problem.
There is not gonna be a WinMo on my HD2 again... for sure..
You can always go back to WinMo if you dont like it....Trust me Android is way better.
ok thank you for the advice ive looked at a few roms and i saw this one was very popular with the most replays so im going to install this,
how does it compare to others around?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877777
EDIT sorry ive just saw this is gingerbread ill not be using this then ... will post my choice when i find one
before you jump into full NAND, why not take a test drive. I recommend these SD builds. I used the first one for everyday use before switched to the NAND of the second (v2.6) version. Just copy the files on the SDcard and go. See how you like Android. If you like Android the NAND version are even better. (Faster and more Stable)

Also use a Auto Boot loader so you don't even need to click any bottoms when you boot up.

I have an HTC HD2 and i installed the energy rom with android froyo 2.2, my carrier is TMO US. I love the rom and android froyo, however, my battery drains very very fast! Is there anything i can do to make my battery last, or change android OS to newer version? If i need to upgrade android, can you show the steps and include attachments or link to downlable content. Thanks i appreciate the support, the site, and the XDA Development Crew.
Did you install the newest version of the Energy rom? (12-01-2011) I think it has android 2.3. If it was the release from a few days ago that was a known problem there was another release that came out today that seems to help with the extreme battery loss.

You realise that Froyo is outdated right? I personally would recommend a CM7 ROM, which can be themed to look like sense, or Gingerbread+Sense if you are really desperate for the Sense experience
Back on topic, try installing and using the apps JuiceDefender, SetCPU and CurrentWidget. JuiceDefender will save you battery through its magical powers (dunno how but it works) SetCPU will allow you to change the CPU speed (i.e. you can lower the screen off CPU speed leading to longer battery life) and CurrentWidget will allow you to monitor your battery drain.
One more thing to do is to calibrate your battery. This can be done by a simple app on the Android market (follow onscreen instructions) or search for how to do it here on XDA.
Oh, and finally you can't do much about it if you mean battery life with screen on, this is just always going to be poor, even at lowest brightness.
Thanks. How would i go about installing a better/newer rom if i already have energy rom? Also, i dont care for sense. I just want a cool, smooth, and fast (w/ good battery life of course) android rom? Whats are your recommendations? Can you guys guide me to the best rom running android for the htc hd2 win tmo. Links to threads and maybe best instructions for my case on installation of newer rom. Thanks guys for taking the time to reply!

That's what I'm using. I'm very satisfied.
I get around 3mAh consumption with screen off (standby).
I easily get a whole working day out of the phone.
Hello everyone,
Was wondering, which one has a better battery life? HD2 with ICS or with WP7?
I think ICS ............

depends on your usage patterns and you app habits...
if you want wealth of apps to get your work done prompto...you might need android ICS or GB...ICS is still in alpha/beta stages from CM and will take a while to mature...but at its current state...it can be used as a daily driver....GB has been there and devs hv done many good things to it...most stable and battery friendly ones are there in plenty..
wp7 on the other hand lacks APPS...but the basic ones like office, social network integration etc are inbuilt...and devs are working on apps as we speak...wp7 on hd2 combo is little bit battery hungry...but cotula's ultrafruit seems to have best battery consumption as most user state...
if you are app guys stay with android a little bit longer....our mighty hd2 will always be there to get wp7 anytime on....
or even better i ll tell u this....dual boot....install wp7 on nand and boot android from sd as and when you want
there are guides in the forum to help u do dualboot...hv fun

I am currently using android on my hd2 and i was thinking of trying wp7. My only use is sms calls browsing abd facebook which i could do also do with wp.
Can anybody tell me hows the battery drain in wp .?
Well according to my use?
Also if its stable and fast and everything working?

latest WP7 is fast but off course bugs will always be there with custom ROM heck even RUU ones have bugs.
you have to charge everyday with WP7 as is for Android, see the link below it might help.
oh BTW you can dual boot if you like.
WP7 is stable and fast and everything works on the HD2.
However, after trying WP7 for a month, I went back to Android (MIUI) for two reasons:
1. Battery drain on WP7 was really bad, wouldn't even get a normal day's use from the battery without having to charge it by mid-afternoon.
2. There just isn't the scope of apps available, and (a personal reason, I know) there were some specific apps I need that I couldn't get for WP7.
The interface is slick and fast, app loading stable, and if some of my niggles were resolved I'd consider going back.
Peace

The battery can be problematic, but can easily be overcome with some tweaks and a spare battery, its not as much of a pain as you might think, and given that the HD2 had the luxury of being able to swap out batteries unlike some other phones its at least worth considering
if you are only doing as you suggest, FB, SMS, calls, an a bit of browsing. The WP is ideal, in fact id go as far as saying it was made for you out of the box WP beats the others hands down for such usage, it becomes somewhat more grey when you look at expanding on that but that situation will only get better with time.
I think even the most critical critics of WP agree that its people hub social integration (ie phone usage!) is unrivalled out of the box.
Im using it with WP for my main OS and carry a spare battery in my pocket (the cheapest one from ebay with external charger)
i using android but my friend got wp7 for me its better android for him wp7 when i buy my hd2 have wp7 in the same day i flashed for android for me no more win on phone
I would stick with android because it is so versitile. Wp7 is ok but i would say its more for the simple minded i guess i would say. I love android only if it had all the app thats iphone has it would be the best os out there.

1oo% agreed on your words
Android
Stick with android so much versatility as stated above and your going to have the same battery drain with either op, Android is definitely the way to go
Stick with Android as WP7 , isnt as stable as Android
WP7 is very smooth and stable
but it does not have enough good apps
Correction, WP is very smooth, stable and out of the box has good functionality, if your wanting a phone with social abilities then its spot on, it does lack expandability though.
Android and WP have there uses, and both are very good at different things, any one that says one or the other is generally bad can and should be ignored

Hello there
I've just got an HD2 (I know it's a little late),
but i found out that this device is even better on some midrange phones in the market (according to the budget i currently have)
i knew there are WinMobile 6.5 builds, Windows 7.8, Android SD and NAND, UBuntu and finally MEEGO.
forget about WinMo 6.5, it's really outdated.
I know that some will tell me it's a matter of personal choice, but what i'm searching for is the most stable, no battery problems, and applications support.
any suggestions about the top 3 ROMS i should test/Use?
thank you all
I'd bet on Android...
If you know that it's purely a matter of opinion then what's the logic in asking?
IMO - WP7 is fast, fluid and the best OS if you don't use too many apps
- Android works fairly well and has a much better app selection than WP, but isn't quite as smooth. It's more suited for high-end hardware
- WinMo is great (yes, that does indeed mean Windows Mobile 6.5) for business-oriented usage, with excellent battery life and stability.

thanks Nigeldg, well i really don't want to take it from the matter of opinion side of view, that's why I asked the question
I want opinions about stability, performance and battery life, with wide applications support.
the guy i bought the phone from is using an Android 2.2 build, is it worth Upgrading to the latest 4.1.2?
my Ex-phone was an touch HD (Blackstone), so i was used to putting Winmo roms only.
i'll have to read a little about how to put Android, WM7 roms.
I Agree with you that Winmo is the best in performance, battery life and currently mostly for business use, because Applications are not developed anymore for Winmo, even existing apps(specially Social) stopped working.
that's why i don't consider putting Winmo anymore, except for as a backup.
thanks
Could you two please suggest Roms one for android and another for WM7?
there are a lot, and i don't which to begin with.
I can't answer any questions unless you provide more information about what your usage of the device will be like. Different things suit different people, you'll probably just have to try some ROMs out yourself and choose later.
Hi,
I also bought my HD2 a little late in the game (some 6 months ago) and it is my second phone, I bought specificaly because I was curious to test WP7 and I knew it to be a very flexible phone if I changed my mind or new things came by (like WP8, still hope it will work some day).
That said, I use PDAimatejam WP7.8 ROM (v8.7, to be exact) and it is very stable and very, very fast, very suited to be your daily driver. There are 2 downsides (that I believe are common to all WP7 roms in the HD2):
- Lack of apps, compared to Android (that has nothing to do with the HD2, obviously). The rom I mentioned comes with the nokia apps (drive, music, etc.), I would say that your basic needs are there, depending on the type of user you are.
- Batery usage is so-so, and the batery level is inacurate. You need to perform "rituals" (look for the camera trick, for example) to have a decent battery life.
In the android front I cannot give you a personal experience (I have a Galaxy Nexus but never used android in the HD2) but the development there is very active. I would sugest you to go to a 4.1 or 4.2 ROM, it is a vast improvement over any 2.x version of android. From what I read there are very stable versions (my phone actually came with android 4.0, but I used it just for a couple hours like that). Android has a much better app coverage and as I said the development is very active, you have more ROM options to chose from. I do not know if there are any specific bugs/"characteristics" that you need to be aware, as is the case with WP7 and the batery.
Another thing, you can always try some of the options for a few days (I would recommend at least a week or two for each OS) and decide which one you like better, or even dual-boot Android and WP7. Thats the beauty of the HD2.
Hope it helps.
Good luck,

thanks Sandro, I will definitly give WM7 a shot,
any quick guides on burning Android/WM7 ROMS, i know the forum has articles about that, but asking experienced users is better for a noob like me at the moment
thanks.
If you don't browse the web too much and don't do any heavy gaming then go for a GB ROM. Choose one yourself, there are tonnes and all are good, but just don't use Sense. A CM7/MIUI GB ROM should work fine for you. I've never used WP so I can't recommend any ROMs, I guess just get the latest version if you can. I'm not going to link you to any guides because you're supposed to search (that's one of the forum rules) so I don't really see why I should do it for you

if you want an easy intro to android, consider installing Darkstone's superram froyo on SD.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870518
it's an easy quick install, everything is supported hardware-wise and if you have the latest stock rom (3.14?) you won't have to change anything on the phone. it boots and runs fast from winMo.
if i'd known how easy and useful it was going to be i'd have installed this ages ago.
