[Q] Galaxy S4 Internal Storage almost full without use - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good Day Folks
I really looked this up before posting so please bare with me
I have Rooted My GS4 16GB Using Foxhound 0.1 updated to 0.2 updated to 0.4 directly and stayed there because i want to solve this issue before updating to 0.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303239 <<this one
I am using Class 10 32GB External SD card, personal apps or images and stuff all stored on SD.
My internal storage says i am using 14GB !!!!!!!!!!!!!
am i flashing the Rom in wrong way ? i am new to android but still i think i knew what im doing
i don't know if every Foxhound version i have installed has taken space without being wiped by the newer version
i tried to post this question in there topic but the forum wont allow me for some reason
Please help me out with any info that can help .. you know even when i have done multiple factory wipe and resets it has never drop down to
regular 6 or 7 or 8 or 9GB "used by system"
my ringingtunes are duplicated , alot of folders with weird images showed up in my photo Gallery "deleted already".
i am thinking to Seriously wipe it to reach regular 6-7GB used by system, then install the Foxhound 0.5 fresh..
Let me know what you think, i thought Android supposed to be easier than iOS which i have really mastered in no time but i really looking forward to master android because i can see Big Potential that my S4 will make me drop my iPhones in the history drawer
i am sure i am going to love android as much as i loved iOS or maybe more so please don't disappoint me here

any ideas please im still looking up to solve this issue

Well not sure for your phone but go into recovery under advanced I believe is format system then flash the ROM right after
Edit it should be mounts and storage then go to format system after you do this go back to install zip and choose your rom

Mike's ICS ROM

Before I say anything, I know this is probably in the wrong place, but it wouldnt let me post in the development forums because of my low post count, I also know this ROM is in a pre-alpha stage and will have many broken features and bugs, this is not what I am asking about.
I just want to know if anyone knows how big the ROM is, I want to try it out to see what it could be like, the download is 167MB, but is that how big the installed rom is? I have resized partitions in my flash memory, therefore if its bigger than 150MB I will need to resize again.
Also (I know basic question) will I still beable to boot to CWM to restore a nandroid backup of Swiftdroid? I know that atleast Wifi and GSM dont work, as long as the info on Mike's web page is up to date, this alone will mean I will need to roll back after I have had a look around, so a nandroid backup will be the best way.
I only ask the last question because I have only used swiftdroid so I need to make sure.
the download contain the recovery version and fastboot version in the one zip the system is about 140MB
Thanks, my system partition is just big enough, do you have any sugestions on a reasonable size for my system partition? Mainly for when more is working and I upgrade perminantly 10MB isnt enough for any updates imo.

I dont get any rebooting on my phone, and barely any force closes except things confirmed not to work.
If you have resized system and data partitions, I changed my system partition to 170MB because there is alot to come to the rom and it could get alot bigger, I can always lower it if needed.

how do you partition the system to 180MB? I also have the same problem of restarting .. however there are problems with the keyboard and I found the official ICS only by the number of posts I am unable to post it on the official post .. so if anyone wants to take this job I can ask in PM the link (because of the number of posts I'm not insert link) (PS: this keyboard would solve many problems; D)

[DISCUSSION] - CM9 discussion thread

So this thread is for all the GENERAL CM9 discussion.

Despite this, people will still go to the development thread to ask questions, request features, banal talks... etc.
Maybe use this thread to summarise FAQ's found in the other thread (and subsequently this thread)
Edit the first post to stay on top of things?
In summary, no exfat on CM9, use ext4 format if you must have files over 4Gb (that's all I know so far, I don't have CM9 installed yet)
*subbed*
Get xplod to put a link to this thread in the development OP? A link to that thread from here wouldnt hurt either
is there a way to block calls in cm9? (without having to install an apk from the market)
I don't have phone yet; however, was wondering if on cm9, do you still have the same camera function as with touchwiz, like fast burst, best shot, taking pic while recording? I don't really care about losing s voice.

If it's like on linux i guess you need to install an mtp library to get it working (i.e. mtpfs).

Would Android beam on CM9 work with S-beam? Ie someone on stock samsung rom uses s-beam to communicate with me on android bean, no issues?
Could we use NTFS on the 64Gb SD card on the GSIII using CM9?
If not.. could I somehow parition the microSD card into x2 32Gb partitions, one ext4 the other ExFAT that way I can run with this until one of the other prevails? I only like copying data once....

A2sd for AOKP b40 discussion

Xylo as well as mods have requested a separate thread for the discussion of a2sd for AOKP since it is not related particularly to the Rom. I saw many people asking the same questions as I have been wondering myself. So I decided to open a thread so we can share our experiences and also get the information in one place. I am wanting to know how to do this as well and as I gather info I will post it here and all others are welcome to contribute as well. Please let's respect the dev and not post in his thread

Yeah for me its working flawless. I just left the cache on nand, with cache on sd-ext, the android market has fc's.
I changed to this script from amarullz rc01, it was a bit buggy in combination with aopk b40, got a lot of stucks and sometimes reboots, which one was followed by another reboot, with the message that a new sim was recognized.
my settings are:
apps / enable
dalvik /disable
swap /enable
cache /disable
But it's only running for a few hours. I will reply in a few days with more information about bugs or no bugs

so after some days of work with the mount2sd script i have to say everything work absolutly perfect. I found a solution how to apply cache on sd-ext. You have to enable "/m2sd dl-cache" . if i did understand everything right, then will that only move the downloaded app cache onto sd-ext partition. I changed some settings. So now my settings are:
m2sd dalvik enable
m2sd dl-cache enable
m2sd apps
m2sd swap
i think thats it. The only thing is, if u install many apps at one time or one big e.g any big game . U have to reboot the phone that the script can move all on ext partition. Just in case that u will run out of internal memory. After reboot all things are moved and u got the "normal" hd2 internal capacity. (Damn EU hd2 version^^ )

[HELP] 3G restarts my phone

Hi everyone,
I recently flashed cyanogenmod 7.2 onto my HTC Wildfire and it kept restarting for an odd reason, I restored back to SplashMOD and it still has the same problem. I've turned 3G off and it seems to be fine, its just when I turn 3G on
Any help?
Maybe you overclocked your phone at 768MHz.... it isn't very stable

It says my phone needs to be GSM (I'm guessing that means unlocked) which my phone isn't. What is a good radio to flash? and do i need to do it before i flash a rom?
GSM means that it's a standard phone that works in any country. ie: it's not CDMA, which mean that it doesn't need special frequencies from the service provider.

like lo2ay already said GSM ("Global System for Mobile Communications") doesn''t mean "unlocked" and has nothing to do wih it.
But in case you didn't unlock your phone - and I'm not getting you totally wrong - this brings up a much more interesting question: if you don't have an unlocked Wildfire - how the hell have you been able to flash a ROM anyway? I'd guess one of the following might match your situation:
- you have a different phone (not a HTC Wildfire)
- you just thought you're going to flash a ROM but did something else instead
- your Wildfire is unlocked and you don't know it
Are you really serious about what you've done? What tutorial/how to did you use to flash Cyanogen Mod?
And yes: if your phone is a Wildfire (buzz) and not unlocked/rooted you can't flash a new radio because you can't flash anything custom...
I think he was meaning sim unlocked?

oh yes - I've been thinking about that for a few seconds - you're probably right.
Regarding my own little problem which I've also discussed a bit desperately here: may I ask you what you would try next with all your Wildfire experience? (I've never been really convinced that the V6 Supercharger or 3G Turbocharger scripts could be involved but after reading that a few people got that bootloop prob with 3G after messing around with them it looked so obvious).
I feared to investigate any further because I had the feeling it could cost a lot of time... so when I went on to solve the problem it turned out I was right with that: I've flashed the 7.2 stable today - with doing just a dalvik and system wipe without success and then a complete wipe - no success either.
I fear to revert back to a true stock rom (including s-off again) as it took me a lot of sweat to do that initially (that has been just in the middle of transformation from revolutionary to alpha rev with all the goldcard stuff etc.) - too make it short: what would you do?
Thx in advance for some input on this...
I would first check my mtd size settings! If you dont know what custom mtds are it means your not using them,if you are using them then you must remember to flash the bravo boot file straight after your rom flash before booting! If this is not your issue then i would do a clean flash of a rom. I.e wipe system, cache, dalvik cache, go into mount and storage and do all available wipes NOT sdcard, then flash the rom. If all fails then i would 1st try a reflash of a custom recovery and repeat previous clean rom flash. Now if it still didnt play ball i would scream at it, throw it at a wall then regret that step and move on to ruu.exe and start afresh lol.
On the v6 etc etc issue. Ive publicly said many times how much i hate this script and others like it! But this is only my opinion as i have had issues using them too in the early days. An app i use still to this day which gives you complete control over the effects of these scripts is autokiller memory optimizer. I will link to a thread i made some time ago to explain this app which can be found on the market.
This again can and most likely will be argued or debated as to its function but in my experience its a must have when used correct.

Sorry i only just noticed your link so my advice was for current op issue. However yes i believe these scripts are the cause im afraid. Still i would give you the same advice again as above or try a clean sense rom flash.
You can get safe ruu flashable zips too so as not to lose security or root so try these before going the exe route.
Hope you get a fix.

And no good news: either wiping everything and doing with or without custom mtd didn't do. Immediately when the network icon shows up (on Google accounts login) reboot... - but wait... one more question: what about formatting boot? should i do this, too?
However, I'll try a sense ROM now and the "safe" RUU afterwards - cross fingers...

LOL yes but thx for the reminder anyway
Now it's getting really weird... I've just put in a different SIM (out of the family) - different carrier. (the idea came to my mind somehow). Looks like the phone doesn't reboot with that.
If that's true and not by accident - what does that mean now? Usually I'd think about the radio - but I've completely wiped the phone (including a sense install in between) - could this be a hardware problem?
I guess I'll do the RUU thingy anyway. So I'll start to gather information on that.
If anyone has a good suggestion to do that as easy and quick as possible - I'd appreciate any suggestions.
--- EDIT ---
If someone has a suggestion for a small Sense ROM (yeah I know) I'd prefer to do that first...

[q]aokp q & a

I figured I'd start a thread for this ROM.
My first question or bug report not sure which...
When turning on 2G networks only, it changes preferred networks to GSM only.
Makes sense.
Only problem is when coming out of 2g only mode, it changes the preferred network to wcdma not LTE.
There a way to change that or that just how its designed?
Thanks.

This thread will be obsolete once i get the official Q & A thread started. It will be kinda like the one i have for the sgs3 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781242. I'm already working on it.
In the mean time, may I ask if sdxc 64gb cards are supported in exfat? My stock rom had no problems with it but aokp won't mount it saying, "blank or unrecognized card."
Do I need to format to fat32?
TWRP still recognizes and reads files of of the card with no issues.
Thanks task.

Twrp still reads it because it's a 4.2.2 aosp problem (I'm pretty sure at least). I am curious if formatting the card would help but I doubt it b/c it didn't help on 4.2.2 on the s3. It's a minor inconvenience but personally I'm just glad to get TW off this thing. Thanks Task! I didn't think the first build would be really buggy or anything but I did expect some minor issues on the first build. Couldn't have been more wrong though, is so fast and stable it's not even funny.

Yah. Was just curious about it. And Task, you are my favorite person in Oregon. You have worked hard giving us a great ROM and I really appreciate it!
Is there a way to Turn ON/OFF the Wireless Tethering function from the Power Menu, Desktop Shortcut or Notification Bar Icon?, thanks

No you won't lose them unless you delete them yourself. But you won't be able to use them unless you flash back to the recovery that they were made from.
Thank u sir

If I'm reading the notes in the release thread, there is currently no bluetooth call audio on the latest task650 AOKP release, correct?
Can someone please post a video on how to do this step by step.... Would greatly help many of us.
Pretty please

How to do what? You haven't even asked anything other that to post a video. A video of what?

Hey TASK i think he wants a video of step by step Install instruction. it seems that people are having a hard time reading & installing the new AOKP from you.

If he needs a step by step video of how to install the ROM then I would suggest him to not flash anything to his device until he reads up on these things more. Otherwise I see him bricking his phone in the near future.

How is that even possible? The instructions are simple and slapped right in your face. 1, make sure you have OUDHS, 2, full wipe then flash. Couldn't possibly get any easier and if people can't figure that out then they should not be modding hardware

Easy as Pie to flash task roms it already has the kernel in it. it's full proof!
Does it takes some time for the Task650 ROM to fully leverage and use the battery to its maximun potential?, with the Stock TW ROM I was getting around 0.5[%/hr] battery usage/drainage with the phone fully idle, measured by BetterBatteryStats, right now I am getting around 3.5[%/hr] battery usage/drainage with Task650 AOKP ROM, comments are welcome, thanks
NOTE: I've been measuring Deep Sleep with CPU Spy and with BOTH ROMs Deep Sleep will be around 93% to 97%
