Hi for some reason video playback is choppy while using Netflix.
When I use hbo go it is smooth.
I think it's because hbo go buffers for about 15 seconds and Netflix doesn't.
Is there a way to force the Netflix app to buffer or select a lower resolution ?

Selecting HD on the youtube player puts it up at 720P which my internet connection cannot keep up, unselecting HD drops it down to something like 240p which looks abysmal, is there a way to select 360p or 480p instead on the youtube app?
Ok so I have .mkv's that I have ripped from physical Blu-Rays. I have converted them to h.264 mp4's using ripbot264. The settings I have are AVC high profile 4.0 progressive, 2-pass encoding, 4000kbps video @ 720p, & 2-channel audio AAC @128kbps.
With these settings, one would think that the Nexus 10 would have no problem at all playing the video back smoothly via the stock video app. Unfortunately this is not true, the video playback is constantly choppy and I am trying to figure out what the problem is.
Don't use the stock app lol. Try MX Player or BS Player.
So YouTube drops frames like no tomorrow. This is on stock and the 10 different modded roms and kernels I've tested on. If the "show cpu usage" option is ticked in developer options then video playback is smooth and without dropped frames.
I was doing some investigating regarding choppy video playback in many media players including stock media player, mxplayer and YouTube. If I enable "show cpu usage" in developer options video playback is smooth and cpu usage appears to be typical. When left unchecked video stays choppy. This is a huge flaw with this tablet. Sometimes video playback is smooth on its own, but that is rare. Try watching the first minute of a cg video called "Ruin" on YouTube app to test. Skip to the first minute to see lots of hitching and stuttering.
Was wondering if there were any devs that could help me troubleshoot this problem further. Google doesn't seem to be aware of the terrible frame dropping during video playback on their own apps running on their flagship device. How did this pass Q&A?

On my nexus 5, when I play a streaming video in Chrome, it will prompt me to select from apps that I can launch the video in. I like this so I can play it in a dedicated video app instead of through the browser which usually lags.
I'm not able to do this anymore, any suggestions? All videos just plays through chrome. Thanks!
When streaming videos from my NAS to the shield TV there is a slight visible stuttering. I tried with Kodi, VLC and BS Player with the same result.
When streaming the same videos with another hardware (ie Dreambox) the playback is smooth.
However, the Netflix app is smooth, even with 4K playback.
I am using the StockRestyle 3.0 Marshmallow.
Any ideas?
Problem solved. In Kodi on the video / playback setting tab, I changed "adjust display refresh rate to match video"
But this worked only with v15.0, not with the newest v16.0..
same here with latest stock rom!
Any news?
