When streaming videos from my NAS to the shield TV there is a slight visible stuttering. I tried with Kodi, VLC and BS Player with the same result.
When streaming the same videos with another hardware (ie Dreambox) the playback is smooth.
However, the Netflix app is smooth, even with 4K playback.
I am using the StockRestyle 3.0 Marshmallow.
Any ideas?
Problem solved. In Kodi on the video / playback setting tab, I changed "adjust display refresh rate to match video"
But this worked only with v15.0, not with the newest v16.0..
same here with latest stock rom!
Any news?

Is it possible to change the default video player for Netflix?
What do you mean?
Netflix provides its own client app for android.
There are mods to the Netflix client app, but all of them originally comes from Netflix I believe.
I believe that the Netflix client plays streaming movies through the default android video player. The same player used when playing movies loaded on sdcard. So my question is can you change that to a different player such as mobo player to improve quality of picture? Many of these software based playes handle the higher bitrate streaming better.
In terms of quality Plex can't be beaten for streaming video. I can play a 1080p MKV with DTS audio and have it reencoded on-the-fly from my PC to my TF at 5Mbit and it looks awesome (Sound is a bit iffy though). I tried a few other streamers like VLC, Androstream, Qloud etc and they all sucked.
I'm still looking for a player that supports embedded .ass subs. Playing the files directly off a Windows share is not very good either as none of the players can play AC3/DTS in MKV and 1080p is no go. Dice player sort of looked promising but all the videos I tested it with would freeze up after a few seconds.
Video playback is the TF's weakest point IMHO. It's OK if you want to stream stuff though which is why I am looking for something better than Plex.
How did you get Plex to work? I'm on Windows 7 64bit and the media server isn't working right. It sends me to the browser when I try to click on it and then has a connection error.
Hi all,
I'm looking to play 720p mkv hi10p videos with embedded subtitles on my Nexus 7. I'll probably want to be doing this by streaming it off a computer or accessing a Samba share.
Does anyone know if this is possible?. Trying to toss up my purchase with the knowledge that its easy / do-able to watch tv shows, movies and things like anime.
Cheers!
I'm just downloading vPlayer to see how it works with my Serviio server. I'll let you know how it goes.
the latest beta VLC player worked for me, was having abit hit or miss with mxvideo player but VLC just played everything i threw at it off my western digital tv live hub.
I tested a 720p hi10p video yesterday using MX Player Pro, no streaming over air.
A couple of frame drops, cannot handle panning scenes very well.
Styled subtitles however look ace, I haven't bothered to check out advanced typesetting though.
Have been exploring the ability on my phone with ES explorer and different media players. 8 bit 720p mkvs work perfectly. 10 bit just falls about for me though on a GNEX with just about every player. Obviously there is a difference in processing power though.
Keen to know if anyone gets it working / how (even if its a solution like PLEX).
Just wondering if there's a bug that needs to be fixed. I installed multiple players (Dice, BSPlayer, etc) but they still crash after about two seconds of play. I'm streaming from a nas using MediaHouse Pro and some of the 720p's are mkv. They play fine in the stock players but there is no sound. Any suggestions?
I can stream video from my phone flawlessly using hotstop (without using data) samba and es file explorer. But now I'm having issues with VLC. Yesterday, VLC worked the best, it loaded the video instantly. The other video players have a small buffering time before playing the video after which they run flawlessly too, you can even skip to any part of the video and it works. Also VLC skipped instantly, the others have a slight lag. Today VLC will not play the video at all, it's the only player that won't, it's just strange that nothing has changed in my tablet or phone but VLC won't load the video and yesterday it could. When I click on the video and have it play through VLC, VLC starts, it tries to load the video, and then it just closes after a few seconds.
It's not a big deal, I just like that VLC hides the bottom bar, MX player doesn't, neither does any other player I have except for the regular android player, which won't allow me to change any settings on the aspect ratio so I don't like using it.
Any ideas? Maybe another player that hides the bar? Although I would prefer if VLC worked again through hotspot streaming.
