No. It's like trying to install Windows 3.1 on a new Mac (not a VM). The two technologies are incompatible. However you could get a T-Mobile/AT&T SIM card and put it on their service. T-Mobile has some pretty good deals like the 5GB/100 min/unlimited SMS 4G service (4G as in unthrottled pure LTE bliss) for $30 at Wal-mart or t-mobile.com under the prepaid section (harder to find).

Hi, tomorrow I will be in NY for a couple of days and I want to buy a Motorola Xoom, is possible to use it outside of the Us? And if it's possible could I use my sim for the 3g connection?
Thanks you in advance for your kind reply
If you buy it here, you will only be able to use it with WiFi. It doesn't support 3G sim cards.
Sorry for the dumb question, it's a wifi only model the one sold in Usa?

No, its Wi-Fi and 3G, but it is Verizon only which has the Verizon 3G "Sim Card" built in.

no theres no Verizon sim card in it. There is a placeholder for where the LTE sim card will go once the upgrade happens, however at the moment its just an embedded CDMA radio

Ah sorry, we don't have CDMA in the UK, so I wasn't 100% sure about it!
Stew
I don't understand very well...It has a slot for SIM but only for Verizon's SIMs...?
No. It uses CDMA. No SIM card. CDMA is different from GSM and it doesn't exist in Europe.
Basically you can use it in Italy over wifi as your data connection.

In the US there are basically 2 systems:
1- CDMA which is used by Verizon (xoom). There is not chip to be attached by the user. However the Xoom has an slot for the upgrade to 4g and that is the slot that you see in the tablet.
2- GMS used by other carriers and the standard in the EU.
You can use the xoom in Italy as a wifi only.
i want to change the system software in Italian of my xoom buyed in US on amazon...how can do it ?
Were the heck did this thread come from?? XDA members have people so afraid to start new threads this guy piggybacked this one.
I have a slightly stupid question that i could not find a definite answer...so here goes
if I have a 3g sim card (HSPA bands..850/1900)...can i pop it into an LTE device and i would just get HSPA speeds?
Specifically, for any canucks reading this post, *if* i bought a RAZR from rogers (assuming that i cave in and can't wait for confirmation of when and what price the galaxy nexus will be released here in Canada) which is LTE enabled, can i just take my sim card from my milestone and put it into the RAZR after it's unlocked and i will get the same speeds as i did with my milestone and everything else will work the same?
thanks...
I highly doubt it.
The Bird is the Word
The SIM card has nothing to do with the network speeds. Your device must have the correct bands to use a different network service. It depends on whether the RAZR has the radio hardware to use your network's "fauxG" service.

I'm using an AT&T sim card on an unlocked Motorola Milestone since I have unlimited data plan for $15/mth. Can I transfer the 3g sim card to say an unlocked GS2 Skyrocket and get LTE speed (provided I'm in LTE territory)?

As mentioned, the SIM does nothing to limit your network selection. The only thing the SIM does is perform a handshake with the cell tower. Your device and carrier plan determine what speeds you get. If the Skyrocket supports 3G and fauxG on AT&T, then that's what you'll get. If the device doesn't support it, then popping in a SIM card isn't going to change the radio hardware.
please help me
hi i have bought a rogers unlocked htc raider and now i m trying to use for bell lte sim but it shows only hspda on network it is not connecting to lte plz if someone can help me i will really appreciate .thanks in advance
[Q] I wonder if there is a possible way to use my Thunderbolt LTE SIM in a Xoom or other LTE device Verizon? Also, I would like to know more about LTE frequencies. Like, if I cloned my Verizon SIM with a AT&T LTE Sims, would I be allowed to use AT&T devices on my Verizon account despite the obvious?
Why cloning? Unlock the phone, simple and easy. Sim cloning is getting harder every day, even the old 2g sims with latest encription is hard to clon.it may takes even days..
Lte sims can be used in any lte phones if the phone is not network locked. Remember that sim is not locked to a phone, the thing is phones can be locked to a network via software or cid or nand locking methods. Unlock the phone, use it in any network ( not applicable for cdma phones which can be used in cdma networks ONLY and dont have sim slots ) provided the phone have corresponding network reception bands( hardware limited/ very few times software limited, nothing can be done if u r hardware limited, but software limitations can be unlocked).

Verizon and AT&T both use the 700Mhz field for their LTE but is the small differences that won't allow Swapping
AT&T - 704 - 746MHZ
Verizon - 746MHZ - 787MHZ
Now if they eventually down the road overlap each other in an identical field then yes its possible but Verizon at the moment is using LTE for DATA only and using CDMA for Voice (for now) while AT&T uses both Voice/Data on its LTE.
But Yes you can switch Verizon LTE Phones all you want.. Your account is tied to the Simcard so swap away... I had an HTC Thunderbolt, bought the Rezound and just hot swapped the simcard without ever telling Verizon and it works .... Now I'm not sure if swapping LTE simcard between a tablet and Phone will work the same way.. I would figure yes since the Tablet is only going to use LTE.. but not 100%
It will work. I use my Rezound's SIM for the phone and my Novatel Jetpack. It shows on my account as the Jetpack, with unlimited talk and text.
Im using my Galaxy Nexus(cdma) micro sim in my "new" iPad, no problems.. unlimited data.. and I use Line2 app as my phone/sms. Im sure google voice sms might work for sms too.
Thanks. This is the answer I was hoping for

Does anyone know if I will be able to use the VZW G2 internationally on a GSM network by swapping out the SIM Card? Let's say I'm going on vacation for 2 weeks...would I be able to buy a SIM card locally, pop it in to my G2, and just pay as I go while I'm down there? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but in my experience the older VZW CDMA phones couldn't do this

the Verizon sim slot as far as I know is for a 4g LTE sim, the GSM HPSA+ frequencies I dont think are active, and even if they are it's likely sim locked.
I just bought a used VS980. I don't use a Verizon's CDMA UIM card. GSM SIM card inserted it can work, but the non-Verizon CDMA card inserted it shows "no service". Is it locked by Verizon? Dialing enter the code "2945#*980#", the phone displays "Connection problem or invalid MMI code", so even if I get an unlock code, how should I input the code?

If insert another carrier GSM sim, it works fine. But insert another carrier CDMA uim, the phone just says "no service", and doesn't prompt for any code.
This phone does not work with CDMA sim cards.

Quite sure that the point of CDMA is that you can't use any other carrier's CDMA sim...
You're thinking of GSM. You can use pretty much all GSM sims in the VS980 because 4G Verizon phones come as "World Phones". No phone can handle CDMA cards from different carriers.

There's no such thing as a CDMA sim card. LTE uses sim cards, which is why the VS980 has a sim card slot.

There are some carriers outside of US that use CDMA/LTE sim cards, they are used to register on both networks, much like GSM but use CDMA access.

My friend owned another vs980. And, ChinaTelecom CDMA uim card works fine on his phone. I think that my phone was locked of some type simlock by Verizon.

Maybe your sim just happens to be incompatible. Try another sim, possibly from a different carrier? Because any non-Verizon CDMA isn't supposed to work on this phone.
Contact
It seems a contract device of Verizon, so it was been locked by Verizon. It can not be unlocked right now!

I checked with my AT&T Straight Talk Sim and data doesn't work. It will show "E" or "H" but no actual data. I saw a forum for flashing a t-mobile ROM to unlock it for t-mobile, but I have yet to see a at&t unlock forum for this model.
