If you care about S-OFF don't take this OTA (or any OTA) until finding out if this patches known S-OFF exploits.
It might not break S-OFF. It might not break anything.
But until you *know* what it does (which is something you learn by waiting a few hours and then reading reports from people who have actually taken the OTA) you should really resist the urge.
Oh, I success OTA update with S-OFF + LOCKED bootloader + stock recovery + rooted, after update I use Voodoo OTA ROOTKEEPER to resrore root, excellent.

I only cared about s-off to convert my att model to the US dev version... Which I did (yay). Therefore I decided to be a guinea pig on this one... I went ahead with the update and it doesn't appear to change anything... Hboot is still 1.44.0000 it didn't change my s-off status. That's not to say that they didn't still patch the s-off exploits used to initially get s-off, it just means that if your already s-off it won't change it back to s-on. At least it didn't on my phone.
Got the update earlier tonight on my Dev Edition as well and just checked to see if this update fixes the bug where the phone's lockscreen misbehaves if you have the Accessibility Service enabled for an app (like the Pebble Smartwatch app or Lightflow) but it doesn't. Damn it! Wish they'd fix this bug.
Exactly! Same to me, i install this ota on my phone with locked bootloader+S-OFF, l was success with HBOOT still 1.44.0000, s-off and locked bootloader.

I think it's failing because the CID needs to be BS_US001 which the OTA is checking. Try changing it and see what happens.

Thanks for this mod, I'm a real noob in this. I have few questions
1. Before flashing with this new Version, How do I backup complete OS (Just in case some thing went wrong)
2. Before installing, You said "Connect via USB & Flash it!". What type of connection we have to select (as it prompts to select)
3. Is this version is official from Android or by any other Developers group ?
Thanks in advance !
1 if you not rooted you can't backup, if rooted use rommanager
2 charging is fine
3 ruu and ota are official
can i know what 'data' are erased? what about phone contacts, pictures, apps, notes?

Can I update my device using this RUU? the phone is fresh new I haven't installed anything on it yet.
IF you are in the Europe region just connect to Wifi, Go to settings > about > System updates > Check now.

My buddy flashed the new OTA and we are trying to establish root.
Me, personally, I run a droid x rooted, so its similar, but I can use MotoHelper to flash whatever I need to establish root. Is there similar programs and files to flash back to a previous version of software for the Evo? Thanks.
Its not possible to root the new OTA yet. Give it some time and for future reference..ALWAYS wait until the OTA is rooted before you flash new updates..
Good luck!

Would it have killed you to spend maybe 20 seconds to see if there was already threads about this? Right now, I count 2 threads on the FIRST PAGE about this, not to mention at LEAST 25 other threads that have been made in the last week. It literally would have taken you 10-15 seconds to find your answer, but since you can't do that, I'll answer for you: YOU CANNOT ROOT THE OTA YET. When a method is available, you can find out here.
If your friend is s-off, you can flash recovery and then flash a rooted rom.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
I love how it's always "a friend" that does the screwing up.
OK, so its not my phone. Like I said, I have a droid x that is rooted. I have four other phones sitting at the house, all rooted. I know what I'm talking about, and i didn't ask if it can be rooted, I asked if you can flash back. Thanks for not reading. I asked specifically if there were any programs to flash an older version of the OS to gain root. Again, thanks for not reading. Motorola as Moto Helper, and I can flash whatever version of android I want. Whenever I want. Without root. I don't know anything about you or your knowledge, so don't question mine. I would like help, not flame. I tried to talk my buddy into rooting his evo when he first got it, and now he finally decided to follow my suggestion, but the OTA came out for him over the weekend. I don't sit around and read about phones that aren't mine, but I am trying to help out a friend to remove bloat. Now all I ask is to get help from the forum with my SPECIFIC question, not rooting the OTA. READ FIRST BEFORE FLAME.

I didn't flame, but offered the only currently known solution to gaining root with the new OTA. Since the hboot was updated with the new OTA, and it's not downgradeable, the phone cannot be downgraded to an earlier version. There are RUUs available to put the phone back to stock or update to a newer version, but if you attempt to run it, it will give you a "main version is newer" error and will not complete due to the hboot not being able to downgrade.
EDIT: Just saw your response, oops.

no you're good, I read before you edited too. Thanks, that makes sense. Like I said, the Droid can be downgraded whenever I want, even with the locked bootloader. Thanks for your input, and this is what I figured happened with the new OTA.
If he was on rooted 2.2 with s-off and updated with ota 2.3 then he must be still s-off. All you need is to flash amon ra recovery and then flash superuser and youll have stock 2.3 with root. Ive done this on 5 phones already )
I was thinking about this while reading all these threads.
If a phone came with 2.2 from the factory and was then upgraded to 2.3, theoretically shouldn't you be able to factory reset the phone back to 2.2?

No. Once you upgrade, that replaces 2.2 with 2.3. Therefore, a factory reset would just reset your 2.3. To downgrade, you need root access to flash an older rom.

Yeh no root for 2.3.3 and i doubt people will bother when its this easy to downgrade and then install custom firmware.
how bad, I really like the new things in 2.3.3, but anyway having a root access on the mobile will be better as everything was added in 2.3.3 can be installed as a software on 2.2
How about:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/
It's as easy as "download -> run" and it works brilliantly!
I suggest, instead of doing it on Windows and dealing with all them complications, just booting a Ubuntu Live CD (it's not as bad as it sounds, I actually liked it the first time I tried it and now I have it installed by my Windows) and just run the command:
wget http://droid.neolobster.com/roms/aahk-25102011.zip && unzip aahk-25102011.zip && sudo ./hack-ace.sh

in terminal, press "1" and be afk for 5 mins.
Doesn't erase your data, doesn't format your phone, doesn't downgrade your Android OS.
What it DOES do is:
Automagically turn your sdcard into a goldcard
Set Radio S-OFF
Set SuperCID
Remove Carrier SIMLOCK
Install Clockworkmod Recovery
Root the phone
Install RomManager
Install Superuser
Good luck with it

Just checked the update on phone it just give a application update for Twitter nothing else at the moment... Checked my wife's non rooted shift and has the same Twitter update nothing else that there Twitter account says...
It's just another basic HTC security update just like the last one...But I did hear HTC patched misc.img partition on the G2 so be carefull about what security patches you update to because it could break root if you have s-on and stock HTC recovery.
Has anyone actually been able to initiate this update yet? I want to pull the .zip from the SD card without installing it to see what's inside and whether or not it can be made into a patch for a rooted 2.3.3 without too much trouble (since I'm an idiot and I want to run the phone stock, save for root).

There are many bugs in this build, i would not update. Camera doesn't work, won't mount an sd card, and the Wi-Fi will not turn on!
I am seeing wifi issue also will try the GPE radio if no good i will reflash to 4.4.2 stock
will it be safe to install on a at&t m8 converted to gpe ?
That's how I installed it. GPE conversion, received OTA this afternoon, installed, broke all of the things.
I was hoping to move away from .zips and manual installations after converting, and only use pushed OTAs.
Still looking for resolution. I doubt the devs didn't regression test, etc.

Mine is an unlocked HTC One with the RUU GPE conversion. I'm having the same problems, even after reflashing the RUU and reapplying the OTA.

I figured out the problem. I flashed the new RUU that graffix posted with 4.4.3. The Kernal in the OTA is not updating like it should, it stays on the kernal that was made in March. The new Kernal has a date of Thursday May 22nd. So for whatever reason, the OTA is not flashing the new Kernal, which is why all those things were broken. If you use the RUU update, it will flash the new kernal, and everything works as it should.
You'll know right off the bat at first boot. With the OTA, the boot animation hangs and it hangs on the home screen. With the RUU flash, everything is buttery smooth
