So i've made a huge mistake. I have a back up image of my nook (its a glowlight) and uhh new i should have had more attention on what i was doing but i pretty much burned onto my internal storage an img that was meant for my external sd. i Know i know... stupid.... ive looked a bit but im pretty sure ive just made myself a $100 paper weight. im stuck on a rooted forever screen with no, on and off happening with the back button. Thou when i plug into the computer there is notification of on and off occurring. In mini tool i do get a drive but my partition are all gone.
if anyone can help or needs more info please let me know..
This is probably fixable if you have a good backup. What did you use to take the backup of your NSTG? Does it include all of the partitions (i.e. 2 GB image)?
I'm not a 100 % sure that the backup consist of everything.. cause i've tried multiple times restoring the image and nothing. I used Roadkil’s DiskImage from here....
i cant post a link yet cause of xda rules but ill post a pic of it
i have to double check the file size...
Just realized the pic way to small to see anything... well anyways I used Roadkil's diskimage. Is that worth anything?

OK, I haven't used the Roadkil tool but it appears it backs up all the partitions. That's a good thing. So I'm sure I understand where you are at, to recover so far you've booted your Noogie sd card, then connected to your PC and deleted all the partitions with MiniTool Partition Wizard then used Roadkil's tool (Store Image tab) to restore the image? Then removed the SD card from your Nook and powered off and back on? And you still get the Rooted Forever screen?
Yes sir that's right

So with some work and looking over what you sent me. It seems like we solved it. Luckily I had 3 backups and I tried my last one and worked out. I'm think it was a moment of distress that caused me to think I really screwed things up. Again thanks you, I hope to be able put back to the community and help other one day like you've helped me today..
Thanks

OK, perhaps your backup image is bad. What size is the file? BTW, did you get any funny / error messages from Roadkil when backing up or restoring? If your image file is around 1.8GB - 2 GB and you had an error restoring with Roadkil and are on Windows 7 take a look at this thread and read through it. There is a program you might need to download and run along with Roadkil to get it to write your backup back to the Nook - might be worth trying even if you didn't get an error message. If your backup is not the right size you may still have a chance of recovery. Read through this thread on how someone else managed to save their NST from a similar mishap.
Good info, I'll give it a look.. Again thou its fixed all is well
Thanks for your help.

Pretty much my internal 2gb microSD card has died on me and i need everything off of it to relpace it with a new microSD card. i have a spare 8gb microSD and it would be a great help if somebody could get me these files and then help me partition the 8gb card correctly to work with the streak. ANY help is greatly appreciated because i dont have the money to buy a new Streak
Edit - All is working now. i ended up replacing the card and flashing all the .img files via fastboot. the original card just decided it didnt want to be dead anymore and is now working correctly too. If anyone is having the problem where recovery says to insert a microSD with an update.pkg file (and you actually have it in) the fastboot method is a workaround to flash and all should work back as normal after that
Should be possible without opening ones streak with ADB, maybe even with root explorer. I am at work right now, but if nobody has answered your call I'll see what I can do.

im not the most tech savvy person around but i can follow directions pretty well. i found this thread
http://android.modaco.com/content-page/311538/hardware-hacking-this-puppy-input/page/80/
and was also linked to it on my twin thread at modaco but it doesnt seem like its going to work the way the stock one would also i still wouldnt have the correct files that are supposed to be on the card. the people on that thread are doing it for storage space. i just want it to work like stock but i only have an 8gb card.
Sorry I should have been more clear, shouldn't be too hard for the person who would help you to do it without opening their streak.
Actually, I would think that so long as you get the partitioning correct (you might have to simply ignore the extra six gigs of space), you might just be able to flash the default recovery and install a .pkg from there.

Did you get this to work at all? I am facing the same problem, except I was able to salvage the internal sd-card. I reformatted with the ext3 partitions, same size as before. My problem was that I somehow removed all files from the internal sd-card and my phone went dead, no qdl nothing. If you would please tell me how you fixed this problem.
Thanks

Agreed...mine died and refused to boot.
replaced with another blank old 8gb card an restored nandroid...instant reboot and working fine.
you dont need... just put a blank one and factory reset... I put to mine 8GB
Is it possible to swap a nandroid from one Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to another Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (exactly the same tab) like swapping the nandroid from each tablet? In other words clone it...(do a Nandroid in one and restoring in the other) Thanks in advance.

yes, it possible
If I'm understanding your question correctly, it can be done and is very simple (to the poster above me: is it so hard to explain how to do something when someone is asking if it can be done instead of just saying yes? I see that on this site too often and I see it when I'm searching for the solution to a problem and come across threads discussing the problem that say SOLVED but the person doesn't explain how they solved it. Its ridiculous)
Anyway... Clockworkmod backups can be accessed with any file manager like ES File Explorer. On the SD card. The backups are saves in clockworkmod/backups/ and all you'd have to do is copy the folder that contains the backup you want to share to the tab you want to restore it in. Place the copied folder in the clockworkmod/backups/ then boot into recovery and restore it.

I don't see a "How" in the question. Then why should someone explain the entire procedure just for a confirmation question.
Also if he wants the procedure too, he can ask here again. Its no big deal
Thanks to both of you... I do know the process, done it many times, is just that I haven't tried it by restoring it on another phone or tablet in this case... Just wanted to be a 100% sure, lol that's all. So shake hands you both, and thank you both too! Take care guys...

Save them to your pc too. Ultimate safety measure. Saved me a few times.
On a related subject, would it be wise to copy or move Nandroid backups, (or Titanium backups), to a storage disk on a computer or USB drive? At nearly 1GB each, backups take up a lot of space on the SD card. If they can be safely stored somewhere else and copied back to the Tab's SD card, this would free up some prescious space on the SD card.
Is this a good plan or am I missing something?
Bob
I always keep at least the latest backup in the device, just in case I dont have my laptop close when I need it...

Yes, it is always best to keep the cwm and titanium backups in your system. But I always keep only the latest copy of both the backups in tab as a security measure as mentioned above.
Is the only way to wipe the sd card is to use CWM? Is there any other way? Also, will this have any negative effects to the device? Does the system require specific folders to work/run?
First you need to make a backup of your rom using CWR, or i prefer 4ext ( mainly cause i can enable usb mass storage while in recovery once plugged into pc)....
2nd ..You should copy all contents from ur storage by connecting ur phone to pc
3rd. place existing folders from sdcard storage to a backup folder a.k.a Nexus 7 backup folder. This will also include your backup under clockworkmod/backup/xxxx_xx_backup.
4th...format sdcard in recovery(4ext) allows for multiple partitioning options..
5th..once formatted...download any ro and boot up..once booted up compare all folders in sdcard to those of backup on pc u created earlier and copy folders to new formatted sdcard..
6th.. note you created the backup earlier which is housed in the clockworkmod/backup folder on pc. Make sure u copy that folder onto sdcard along with i.e dcim, movies, pictures, gameloft..etc...etc..basically all files from ur pc folder that contains all the sdcard contents explained in step 3.
Hope this helps

I am not on any custom Rom at the moment. I'm currently running stock and stock kernal.
All I wanted to do was start fresh since my storage has become some what messy and unorganized. I already made a back up using cwm. I just wanted to wipe the sd card in the device. I already have my important files backed up including ePub, mp3, apk files etc
I'm just concerned that if I wipe the sd, the nexus 7 won't run the way it should.

I think you have the "Dead Space" that android commonly sees.
Like you already asked you need to reformat your tab etc, that is THE ONLY way to return the dead space back into usable.
Maybe: backup and restore->factory reset, is the option you are looking for?

If I do the factory reset, I have a few questions.
One, will it cause me to lose root?
Second, will it also wipe the storage card? ( I would assume so)
Third, I never heard of this dead space issue. Why does this happen?
Don't know about root. But that should be easy enough to get back. I was ballsy enough to press the option thought it would prompt me before wiping and it did .
See screenshot.

Thanks for that. I am currently trying to back everything up at the moment. I'm nervous but I'm going to give it a shot. Let you know how it goes.
I was thinking, maybe if I went in to staples and showed them that the storage card was showing me incorrect info, maybe they would swap it ouf for me for one of the newer 32 gb ones. I'd even pay the $50 difference if the 16gb drops down to $200
Might be worth a shot lol

Okay, so I reset the tablet and nothing really has changed. It didn't format the storage because pretty much everything I had it in there before is still there except for music and videos etc. i still have root access. I still only have 3 gb available so something is definietely wrong. I'm just not really sure what to do. The system even rebooted in tablet mode which I had it set to before. What does anyone think the next step should be?

If you've formatted your system you're not a noob so you've probably already done this too, but run ES File Explorer > Manager > SD Card Analyst.
Do you use CWM to backup you roms?

I grew the balls to just format the SD card using CWM. I was pretty nervous but it did reboot and it wiped everything.

No problem. I was really nervous. In all honesty though there has to be another way. I mean I have root access obviously. Lets say you get some regular user who doesn't know much and they just want to wipe their device clean. What exactly are you supposed to do? why isn't a factory reset wiping out the storage card? It is very strange.

Because the SD card is where you store pictures, music and other stuff, a factory reset wiping that would be a long process(copying it off then back on) and most of the time not required
and the space not showing up in storage settings menu, it only shows stuff in the default android locations, just a fyi

Sup guys. I don't know if this is the right place to post this. But here I go. My 32gb San Disk micro SD card was working fine on my gs3 until I got my s4 and now it seems to be write protected. I can't delete or add anything onto the card. It worked fine on the s3 though. So I Googled a little about this and came across a piece of software, which I downloaded and made use of. But the tool I used to supposedly fix the card actually made it worse. Now the phone can't read it, nor can the PC explore its files (but can detect the device), its like a non allocated partition that just needs formatting. But I have tried windows format utility, SD card formatter, HD low level formatter, and HP USB disk utility software and all of them without success. Please help me as I don't know what else to do.

use cwm recovery to format sdcard. u may need to root ur ph for dat
Yes the galaxy s4 does seam to have issues with sdcards, I myself had corrupt sdcard twice for no apparent reason. Your sdcard will now be in RAW file system and from experience very hard to recover, I've tried dozens of recovery windows apps to fix the partition without success (maybe just didn't try the right app) you can however recover SOME datas on the sdcard but there is no guarrentee how much or what you can successfully recover.
The moral of this story is to ALWAYS backup your data.

Why not just get a card reader and use a PC and partition minitools?
To get your SD card back You may even need to do a LOW LEVEL format. This is very different from a standard format.
Use Google and get a freeware version of a low level format software then repartition USB/flash drive then normal fat32 format.

Yes. You have to wait for your app to be updated by the dev. I have several apps that is already kitkat compatible. They can write or delete in my ExtSdCard. Anyway. The best way is to root your device. Thats all.
I think it sounds more like what happened to my SD card. It became Read Only and I had to send it back for a replacement. Nothing to do with KitKat.
Check out this thread and I hope it helps (solved) 64gb sd card stuck on read only
This is not the KitKat issue, the Stock Camera was one of the first apps to be updated...
Does this also happen with a different SD?

I had a dodgy microsd not to long ago. It was really screwed, couldn't be read or write to. After formatting a zillion times on all my different devices, I tried a recovery program I had got when I accidentally wiped my 1tb hdd. To my surprise after recovering all the media on the card; I cant remember if there was an option to restore partiton table, but it worked like normal again.
Anyway here's the name of the program:
MiniTool Power Data Recovery
http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/
-looking at it now.
Once you've formatted your sd-card try recovering the media on it (free version only does 1gb). Then try testing again see if its fixed.
If it doesn't do anything there is a couple of other options.
- Damaged partion recovery and lost partion recovery. I'd give these a try and do a quick format after doing so.
Hopefully this program helps, it brought a dead card right back to life for me.
Not affiliated with this program in any way.

Hopefully this program helps, it brang a dead card right back to life for me.

Woops, free like... enjoy?
I had a dodgy microsd not to long ago. It was really screwed, couldn't be read or write to. After formatting a zillion times on all my different devices, I tried a recovery program I had got when I accidentally wiped my 1tb hdd. To my surprise after recovering all the media on the card; I cant remember if there was an option to restore partiton table, but it worked like normal again.
Anyway here's the name of the program:
MiniTool Power Data Recovery

Tried it bro but still nothing thanks though
Hi,
For me it's not acceptable to have a device with ext SD support but able to use it!
I spend nearly one hour to copy to another card, reformat, check files, virus, Fat32 but nothing helps!
connected thru OTG, it's possible to write file but impractical, I hope next update or utility would be avaible.
If I understand, it's related to the Knox security?
I didn't tested Knox, it's not free am I right?
