Needed: Brave person - internal SD files needed - Streak 5 General

Pretty much my internal 2gb microSD card has died on me and i need everything off of it to relpace it with a new microSD card. i have a spare 8gb microSD and it would be a great help if somebody could get me these files and then help me partition the 8gb card correctly to work with the streak. ANY help is greatly appreciated because i dont have the money to buy a new Streak
Edit - All is working now. i ended up replacing the card and flashing all the .img files via fastboot. the original card just decided it didnt want to be dead anymore and is now working correctly too. If anyone is having the problem where recovery says to insert a microSD with an update.pkg file (and you actually have it in) the fastboot method is a workaround to flash and all should work back as normal after that

Should be possible without opening ones streak with ADB, maybe even with root explorer. I am at work right now, but if nobody has answered your call I'll see what I can do.

im not the most tech savvy person around but i can follow directions pretty well. i found this thread
http://android.modaco.com/content-page/311538/hardware-hacking-this-puppy-input/page/80/
and was also linked to it on my twin thread at modaco but it doesnt seem like its going to work the way the stock one would also i still wouldnt have the correct files that are supposed to be on the card. the people on that thread are doing it for storage space. i just want it to work like stock but i only have an 8gb card.

Sorry I should have been more clear, shouldn't be too hard for the person who would help you to do it without opening their streak.
Actually, I would think that so long as you get the partitioning correct (you might have to simply ignore the extra six gigs of space), you might just be able to flash the default recovery and install a .pkg from there.

Did you get this to work at all? I am facing the same problem, except I was able to salvage the internal sd-card. I reformatted with the ext3 partitions, same size as before. My problem was that I somehow removed all files from the internal sd-card and my phone went dead, no qdl nothing. If you would please tell me how you fixed this problem.
Thanks

Go here and read step #12 in post #2. Worked for me when I upgraded my internal card. I installed the card blank and let the streak do the rest. Followed it up with a full Nandroid restore.

Wp7 and sdcards.....be careful!!!!!

Well its my own fault but I thought maybe I can save some others the heartbreak of a damaged sdcard. We all know that wp7 reformats the sdcard when installing the first time. Also if you switch sdcards while phone is off or anything and then boot into wp7 you will fry your card.
I flashed wp7 just to see what it was all about blah blah. Decided it was time to return to android. Blah blah i stuck my android sdcard with all my backups, pics, work stuff back into the phone and rebooted to flash android back through nand . Somehow i let it boot back to wp7 instead of nand and it killed my card. Lesson learned. Keep your sdcard 10ft. away from Wp7 at all times. Don't switch out your wp7 sdcard till you are actually back in android just to be safe. Oh and backup your sdcard!!!!!!!!

If for any reason your sd card becomes corrupt just use this program: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool.shtml
lol, hard lesson but it was obviously worth it as you wont be stupid enough to do something like that again, especially when it clearly states in read-me that card is partitioned etc.
Thank you for this post, I was not aware that something like this can happen, and now I'll take precautions so it wont happen to me.

Did you actually read the second paragraph????? Yes I read the read-me. That's how I knew to use a spare sdcard. Plus the read me states that the card will be reformatted upon first boot and if removed the phone will lose all userdata. Had nothing to do with stupidity. Has to do with a pregnant wife needing my attention and me letting go of the power button to soon. Stuff happens.
Now to be more helpful than negative......unlike the athiest with his stellar "I don't believe in God, but I sure think I am a God of android" bad attitude.
The sdcard wasn't reformatted. It was showing as being damaged. I was able to find a simple, free data recovery program that was able to recover most of the card.
I see this may happen often because after using wp7 you may be in a haste to flash back to android (wp7 is just sad IMO). Just wait till you are booted into android just to be safe. Also while fixing my mess up yesterday I stumbled on another problem.
Recently read a post about partitioning the sdcard for optimum use when ram builds came out. System -ext. for data and another for cache. I picked up this sdcard off the desk after finding my main card had been damaged. Then did a task 29, flashed magdlr, and Mdj's gingerbread. Inserted the sdcard and did first boot. To my surprise I had all of my apps pre loaded and I hadn't logged into Google yet so I knew it wasn't Google data backup that loaded my apps. So I went into root explorer and saw the ext. and then realized which sdcard I had slid in. There for a second I thought "WOW me and mdj have the exact same apps". Blah blah reformatted card and reflashed gingerbread. Done.

Myself, and a few others, have manged to reformat the SD card in a single button press by puttinf it into a digital camera and using the format option. It shows the card as 200mb but after the lighting quick format reads the correct size...voila.
Thanks...good to know. I will try it today. It took 8 hrs. for that application to fix my sdcard so that the computer could read it. Though my phone still wont read it. Out of 3700 pics I recovered 98% of them, all of my work files and android apps. Got real lucky. Took another hour after that for the computer to copy them to another 16gb card. Made for a long night. Now when I get home I can reformat the bad card and use as backup.

Do you have any suggestions for a good data recovery application. The one I used was free and easy to use but cost me about 4 he's of sleep. I know a lot of ppl experience sdcard corruption frequently maybe we can get it into a sticky that ppl will find before they reformat. I did not know till last night that it was possible to recover drives this way. I almost erased all of my families Christmas pics. PREGNANT wives don't like that kind of news. okay, i've tried using minitools partition to try and delete the 200mb partition and then recreate the entire 16gb that is my microsd as well as sdformatter with full (erase as well as overwrite) with size adjustment on but the problem is that i can only see one partition, the 200mb partition, i can't even see the the second partition or whatever that wp7 created. I even tried doing the low-level-format but it's still stuck at 200mb!
anyone have any other solutions?

Just download and install SD Formatter 3 on your pc, run the program and in the options change FORMAT SIZE ADJUSTMENT to ON and leave it at QUICK FORMAT. Dont worry that it only shows the 200MB partition it will reformat your card and bring back its full size. It worked everytime for me.
Mark.
i tried that through android usb storage mode but it would keep on going back to 200mb. the only way that using sdformatter proved to be successful was to connect the microsd through magldr and not through android
thanks for the tip though!
google samsung sd formatter. Format as FAT32 with overwrite enabled. It fixed my bad card when i returned to android
By the way, you have to mount the card via MAGLDR as it wont mount in android (it is detected in windows this way)

have you bought the sd card from ebay? it might be fake. It happened to me too, bought a 32gb microsd, for about 20 euro, knew it was fake, but i just tried my luck. When the package arrived it got myself some brand new earrings, probably worth 2 bucks.

Problem with sd card

Over the past day or so I have been playing around with some of the gingerbread sense roms out. After flashing the last one, my sdcard comes up with the message that its mounted read only due to an unexpected problem. I have tried fixing permissions, even went and removed the gingerbread rom and restored a back up of royal glacier, which had no problem with my sdcard before. Any ideas as to what is going on? I'd hate to have to format my sdcard as there's a LOT of misceleanous backups on it from my phone. Any help in this will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. If it makes any kind of difference I am using the 8gb sdcard that came with the phone.

Have you tried mounting it via settings? Cm7 is having the same issues pretty much, if I go to settings storage and mount sd it fixes it till the next error. Lol it sux azz and I don't think anyone here can build a rom without using cm source. :/
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I tried that to no avail. Even tried remounting through adb... As far as mounting through settings goes, it shows the card is mounted read only, and will not unmount or anything, if I press the unmount it leaves that screen and comes up preparing sd card, then the same error message... I don't know, guess I'll just have to pull my sd card contents and format. Will that effect my cwm or anything else I am using which made folders on my sd card?

HELP!!!!!
Okay. So I took the sdcard from my phone, and attempted to pull the files and folders from it. WHAT A SHOCKER! they're all set to read only. I had to take each file and folder seperately, go to properties, and uncheck read only from the attributes. But there's STILL a problem, Once I move them to my windows 7 64 bit pc, the are set to read only again. I take ownership of the folder and it's contents, and as soon as I click apply and close the properties, they're set back to read only. I have already formatted the sd card, and want to put these files back, but if they're read only wouldn't it mess up my phone's sd card again? What am I missing to get my sd card back to working condition? Anyone who can help with this issue would be a LIFE SAVER. I have a TON of info on this phone I don't want to lose. I Pray to the android GODS that my phone's sd card did not ruin all my info.
Try them, mine show read only as well on my 32 bit vista system. And they never change either.

Bad internal SD card, I need help to replace it :)

Hello all, I need your help. I'm using dell Streak 5. The phone factory resets by itself, I know that the problem is bad internal SD card, I have some skills for opening phones, and replacing internal parts, so this is no problem for me, but still I need your help. I have several questions:
-Can I put micro SD 2GB or 4GB(I know this is maximum, do not want to edit system files tu accept bigger card) Class 4?....becorse I live in small country, I can't find SD card's with bigger class.
-Which class is the original internal SD card from 2GB?
-And the must imortant question, after replacing the new and formated(in FAT32 I thing) micro SD card need something special to do, or just need to do factory resset and wait for the phone to create partitions on the micro sd card? I am asking this question because my phone is running on latest official Froyo ROM 2.2.2. Is it necessary to instal custom rom, or I can be able to change the inner SD card running on official Froyo, with only factory resset? The data on internal sd card is not important to me, I do not need a back up, I just want my phone to accept the new card, becorse I spent 400 euros for my beloved phone. Thank you very much!
You need to search. This has been covered.
I will tell you that the internal sd card is not formatted fat32 as it is used in the phone.

Ok Thank you, I will replace my new internal sd card without formatting. I was searching everywhere and can't find someone that was replacing internal sd card on phone running on official 2.2.2 Froyo :S. I was found that on Streak with StreakDroid 1.9 Custom RoM is only necessary to do factory resset after replacing the new sd. I don't know if this procedure 'll work on my Streak with Official 2.2.2 ROM. So, can someone ansver me? Thanks .
Maybe Marvin02 or TheManii or someone more knowledgeable can step in but as long as you use a 2GB card, you'll be good with the stock ROM.
BUT this is the part Im not sure of, if you swap out for a 4GB card, then you do need to have installed StreakMod and StreakDroid, this is from personal experience. I changed mine out and had StreakDroid 1.9.0 installed. When I powered the phone up, it did all the work, I just had to wait.
Not sure if the same is true using a 4GB or larger card with stock ROM or any of the other custom ROMs

Hi, I've replaced my original internal 2GB microSD class 2 to 4GB class 10 without any problem (i think Dell Streak will accept any class).
* Download 'QDLTool3rd_20101022_GAUSB1A130500' and unzip to folder on desktop (google 'QDLTool3rd_20101022_GAUSB1A130500').
* Power Dell Streak on the first time with inserted 4GB internal microsd card and wait until auto format is done and display error message come on.
* Power off Dell Streak by remove the battery and re-insert it back after 5 seconds.
* Plug-in USB Data cable into your computer
* Press and hold the volume up button then insert Data cable into the Dell Streak.
* Goto your QDLTool3rd folder on your desktop and execute QDLTool.exe file and select RUN option (should you get driver error then Google search, install and start again).
* On completion your Dell streak will boot into android 2.2 with old Baseband.
From here you can update latest Baseband and flash Steven 1.9 or 1.91 or in my case Simple Streak 1.3 Beta4.
Should you require help PM me. Also check out my previous post for photo of my Dell streak with inserted 4GB microSD, working.

This mean that original internal sd card is only class2?.....I will change it with another 2GB Class 4 micro sd card. So I must run qdl tool?....is it possible to brick my Streak with this software? Thank you very much, if I need help I 'll PM you my friend. Thanks a lot.
This is the problem with not searching for and reading the existing threads on this topic. You are getting replies from just one or two people and not the benefit of previous longer discussions.
Here are some links:
Hardware Hacking the Streak – thread at MoDaCo, main focus is replacing the internal SD Card with a faster, larger card
How-to Increase streak storage up to 62 GB – an extension/continuation of the hardware hacking thread at MoDaCo
Changing Internal SD - thread here at XDA
While I have not done this replacement I would not recommend using the QDLTool as a first attempt.

Yes, the internal 2GB microSD is class 2 (mine is anyway). I can only tell you that I've ran QDLTool many times over and not yet does my Dell Streak Brick beyond repair (IMO, it's very hard to brick the Dell Streak unless it's hardware damaged). I've messed up my Dell Streak many times, including no power dead, no fast boot, no recovery and no response at all to any button being pressed, and so I though until I was able to recovered using QDLTool and fixed it every time.
FYi, I've removed 4GB microSD card from my Dell Streak and re-inserted the original 2GB microSd back and the Dell Streak boot up fine.
Please understand that this is my past experienced and results, in no way am I saying that the same result will be for your device.
I share my experience 2 days ago, I changed my internal microSD to a Kingston class 10 8GB card, the smallest I can find.
I did a full nandroid backup before removing anything.
Change the cards, power up and 2 partitions are automatically created, mounted at /cache and /data.
Boot to recovery and restored nandroid backup, all is well running Steve's rom 1.91.
I have a similar problem with my streak that I have just got, that it is stuck at the dell logo. When I try to run an update or factory reset it only goes half way through, and says error with e: cache.
I have done qdl but this doesn't work, tried different updates, roms etc with no success. I went onto the fastboot menu and did the engineering codes which seemed to imply a internal memory card fault.
So, my question is, if I replace the internal SD card, will this solve the problem?
I have searched various threads but cannot seem to see the correct solution.
Any help would be appreciated.

My friend be strong and take a leap of faith. Since there is no available answer to your problem and your Dell is not working anyway, why not replace your internal microSD and then follow the method in my previous post and see (start with a 2GB or 4GB first).

I think that if you replace the internal sd card it going to solve your problem. I'm still reading for this problem on Streak, and this seems to be a common problem for Streaks . Please find on google how to dissasamble your Streak is not hard, but be careful there is flax cable under tach panel! Yes, factory reset. Didnt tried nandroid, but I read that it can be done.
Just remember to wait like 5 minutes for the first run!
So far I have been lucky fixing my memory cards with Ubuntu. You can install it along with windows or inside windows.I always have a computer with both OS's.

When you used qdl tool....are you sure you had the update.pkg and the matching bb ams file in the same folder as qdl....and the same update.pkg on your sd card.....and no other update.pkg or mbss bb in the folder/sd card except one set
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
I am not an expert on the QDLTool but looking at the version that was available as 'repairtool' on StreakDroid there is no update.pkg in the zip file for that. I am no expert and have only used the versions of qdltool available from StreakDroid.
Also there is a thread in the dev section that indicates that the qdltool is married to a specific set of files unless you modify the code directly. This would mean to me that unless you make modifications to the code any files that did not come with the version of the tool you are using will not be used. Whether having additional files on the sd card or in the folder on your computer where qdltool resides will cause an issue I do not know.
im not an expert in the qdl either....but i remember when i first used it i had to download the update.pkg separetly and put it on sd card....i put a copy in the qdl folder along with the amss/bb file;this was back when the 305 rom came out,so from what i figuered, was the qdl tool is just pushing a factory restore...thats complete(not like just running a fr from streakdroid).....but it uses what ever update.pkg that you put on it.....it doesnt have a built in rom

Internal sd replacement, need help.

Hello guys,
I do have streak ready with cuted off pice of plastick to get acces to my internal sd card. I did ordered 8gb 10 class card already. Looking for some guide or tutorail how to make streak working after putting new sd inside. I did read about some partitions and stuff but i dont know how to do it. Its any chance somone could help me?
Do a backup with streakmod, turn off, replace card, turn on and let it format its self, turn off, do a streakmod recovery..boom done. But you might have problems with 8gb card. 4gb is what I read it can handle.

Coule you write for me what you did step by step? Im not talking about physical replacement.
is so easy - with the phone turned off replace the internal 2gb card with another (4/8/16/32 gb - 2/4/6/10 class), after that u turn on the phone and let it format the new card itself, after that turn off the phone; on the external card u need to put the image of OS, and after u start the phone u need to enter in fastboot to start the installation of the os . that is all.

To the best of my knowledge you don;t do updates in fastboot mode - you do them in recovery mode. As I have written wehn I put the new 8 GB card in the inner SD slot I did a factory reset from the first screen in StreakMod Recovery and the card was formatted properly. I have since flashed a few different roms to the Streak (352, 360, GSC) with no problems,
yes in recovery mode, my mistake, now i see it
Y'all might want to take a lot at TheManii's guide to flashing the image of a stock inner SD card while you are replacing your factory one, it worked for me
Sorry for my english.I tried to replace the inner sd card dell streak 5 with 4gb. It did not boot, stuck on dell logo. Please help?
how do we expand the /system folder to 512mb?

External sd card issue

I have an External sd card issue after updating to 4.4, now I know there are alot of people experiencing access issues but mines is different and wanted to know if you guys are having the same crap, so I can access my ext sd no prob but unfortunately I cannot right any data to it anymore, if I try a full reformat of the ext sd card in my phone it will format and after it will rebuild and come back with pics and music etc, if I try to reformat it in the pc it will not, when I take pictures and it goes to the external sd it will be gone or become corrupt when I reboot, anyone having the same issues???
its less then a year old sandisk 64gb class 10 it would be weird but its also a coincidence it happened only after I updated to 4.4....
Its not weird at all. If you google about that you will find a fix. But first you have to be rooted.
You are going to add media_rw to your platform.xml.
Just google a bit. And you'll find the answer.

Yes. You have to wait for your app to be updated by the dev. I have several apps that is already kitkat compatible. They can write or delete in my ExtSdCard. Anyway. The best way is to root your device. Thats all.
I think it sounds more like what happened to my SD card. It became Read Only and I had to send it back for a replacement. Nothing to do with KitKat.
Check out this thread and I hope it helps (solved) 64gb sd card stuck on read only
This is not the KitKat issue, the Stock Camera was one of the first apps to be updated...
Does this also happen with a different SD?

Woops, free like... enjoy?
I had a dodgy microsd not to long ago. It was really screwed, couldn't be read or write to. After formatting a zillion times on all my different devices, I tried a recovery program I had got when I accidentally wiped my 1tb hdd. To my surprise after recovering all the media on the card; I cant remember if there was an option to restore partiton table, but it worked like normal again.
Anyway here's the name of the program:
MiniTool Power Data Recovery
http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/
-looking at it now.
Once you've formatted your sd-card try recovering the media on it (free version only does 1gb). Then try testing again see if its fixed.
If it doesn't do anything there is a couple of other options.
- Damaged partion recovery and lost partion recovery. I'd give these a try and do a quick format after doing so.
Hopefully this program helps, it brought a dead card right back to life for me.
Not affiliated with this program in any way.

Tried it bro but still nothing thanks though
Hi,
For me it's not acceptable to have a device with ext SD support but able to use it!
I spend nearly one hour to copy to another card, reformat, check files, virus, Fat32 but nothing helps!
connected thru OTG, it's possible to write file but impractical, I hope next update or utility would be avaible.
If I understand, it's related to the Knox security?
I didn't tested Knox, it's not free am I right?
