Free space - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After installing CM10 I wasn't happy with the result so I restored with CWM Recovery. I also wiped the cache (dalvik too) and put it back to factory settings. But now I miss a lot of free space (and my pictures were still in the gallery when using CM10). I think wipeing doesn't remove all data. Is it possible to remove everything before restoring.
Or is it better to make a clean install after removing all data instead of restoring?

Cannot reinstall an application

I had a little issue when installing an app and now when I try to reinstall it i get an error right away starting that it can't instal and to check free space.
This is on my GTab 7510 running ICS.
Free space on the device is around 5gb and i can install other apps either manually or through the market. Is there any place i can check to see if the are any pieces of the app that need to be removed manually?

Somewhat Choppy (?) / alotta FC's

Hi!
I recently rooted my nexus 7 32 gb, and I rooted it using smoothest rom with trinity kernel. But I heard alotta good things about motley, so i changed. I had some troubles but after that I've noticed I had ALOT more FC's with random apps like n64oid, facebook, launcher etc. Also, N64oid lags sometimes on my tablet, but doesn't on my single core phone. What could it be?
I use Rom toolbox, max 1600 min 100, and trickster MOD but i don't really use anything from it.
Is it normal? Should I wait a couple of days for my tablet to "get used" to the new kernel? Or is it because it's jelly bean? Would the thunderbolt script help at all(random but I have it on my phone)? Would chainfire 3d make any difference?
I have an external keyboard that I plug in on my tablet if that makes any difference.
A clean install with a full wipe would greatly reduce FCs and improve performance. I use motley's kernel aswell and it's super smooth evem at stock cpu speed. Just full wipe your device (backup!), install your desired rom (I recommend Paranoid Android or Rasbeanjelly) and then install motley's kernel. Also, fixing permissions in recovery reduces FCs, because incorrect permissions cause FCs.

Hi! Thanks for replying. Hmm... How would I do a full wipe? Haha, sorry I'm really bad at this. I have TWRP, so do I wipe (back up first of course) cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system, format data? Or do I just leave out system? THEN i flash my new rom right?
bump! please help

Do a factory reset and reinstall rom, gapps, and kernel. Make a backup in TWRP first (nandroid) in case anything goes wrong.

Smoothest rom installs the kernel and the gapps for me, so I just do that right?

Yeah if it's an all in one installer just go ahead and flash that.

Be sure to also wipe system, because that is where the rom installs. So any conflicting files will be deleted for the next rom install.

[Q] Warning TWRP factory reset will wipe your internal memory(Music, backups, photos)

I loved TWRP recovery, but then I did a factory reset. TWRP completely wiped my phone beyond what was needed and no I did not do a custom reset but the default one. I have a nexus 4 and the reset wiped all my data. Music, photos(even the nandroid backup that TWRP created!) CMW does NOT clean the internal data such as music and other folder, it leaves them. Why TWRP wipes it all is beyond me. Thank you for this great custom recovery however I lost a lot of data that cannot be ever replaced and lost hours and hours of time restoring everything since Titanium backups were deleted. This should not have happened. Have others experienced the same?
You probably selected internal memory by accident, I dont recognize the problem.

First of all, I checked out their site and here is why I shouldn't have to do that. When reading this http://teamw.in/whattowipe Notice the quoted "These options are there for convenience. For instance, if you're getting ready to sell your device, then it's a good idea to wipe everything on the device so that the new owner doesn't get your private data."
I'm just saying that the standard wipe that TWRP provides should not delete my internal mem.

I do it all the time. The "standard wipe" has never wiped my internal memory. In fact, they've made it more difficult to accidentally wipe it than it used to be.
How come mine deletes

I believe so. Should be a standard confirmation message.
When I factory reset via TWRP my internal storage does not get wiped.

Have done a factory reset three times last week through TWRP 2.6.0.0 and it always left /data/media alone. Maybe you accidentally toggled a full wipe?

Maybe, but i'm sure i just used the default wipe. Either way I am using CWM touch and dont have to worry about that. Thank you all for your support)
Just wiped my phone last night to install Paranoids latest. Using latest TWRP I selected wipe, it stated that it was a factory reset and showed everything that would be touched, afterwards I booted up and restored 5 different backups all from my internal storage so it didn't wipe it lol
You sure you selected the right thing?

Well, I guess I did something wrong and it cost me big time. Maybe I will give TWRP another try, some other time, will definitely back everything to my pc or DB before I do
Thanks to all who replied

I have the same problem with TWRP
I did a factory reset and it deleted my backup created with TWRP as well as the ROM I was about to flash along with everything else in the "virtual SD card". Maybe I am missing something since I am new to phones without an SD card.
No, I think you either did a Format DATA (which explain what it is and force you to type "yes" to continue) or you went in advance wipe and selected the Internal Storage to wipe. Factory Reset does not delete the internal memory.

You have no idea how much I love you and how stupid I feel right now. For some reason I wasn't seeing the swipe to factory reset and you made me realize that. Thanks for helping a noob.
I accidentally formatted my internal storage a before using Advance Wipe, I think they made it too easy to accidentally check the Internal Storage box. It usually goes something like this: F#$%@#$^@$#%^#$%@#%@#%!!!!!!
I also have wiped my entire phone, how on earth do i get it back online to install OS again?
CWM is better i think.

Yeah Man Happened to me too just now. Cryiing. Literally crying all my media gone awayyy.
I liked twrp more but now
I think cwm is better than twrp because of this format it did to me.
Cwm was good but it has not been updated for quite some time" while twrp continues to improve imho.
Well even i prefer cwm or philz from cm11 but people still love twrp.

Save wipe sdcard

Got a replacement device for my defective unit and need to return it.
How do I wipe the internal storage safely?
Just doing a factory reset is so fast I don't think this overwrites anything.
I'm not rooted.
Performing a factory reset via the stock recovery will wipe your internal sdcard.
Sent using xda-developers app
I think you can accomplish the same with the factory reset option in the Settings app. There is an option to wipe your pictures if I can remember. This will wipe the internal SD card to.

Yes but I suppose this only sets some bits in the boot sector and does not actually overwrite data, so it might be recoverable.
Usually to securly wipe data it is overwritten with zeros or anything else.

Oh i see what you mean. You can format each of the internal partitions, and then rewrite all of the stock images. That should thoroughly wipe everything, and make it very hard (if not impossible) to recover anything. Heres a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Needs root thou I suppose...
Hmm seems there is no chance. I mean Google has my data anyway. Just want to be sure they don't fix it and resell it to some guy that is a bit too cursious.

No you dont need root. Read the guide (steps A,C,D)...all you need is an unlocked bootloader, then after youre done you can relock it.

Q: Reset phone but keep root

I am not sure where things started to go fubar (I moved to the Windows phone for a while but now I am back), but things on my rooted note 3 dont work like they should. For example, I cannot setup my work email (enterprise) or school email (microsoft exchange webmail) because it keeps on crashing. I have to reinstall the gmail email app every now and again because that goes haywire and the system update check crashes. I have frozen a few apps but I unfroze and it still doesnt work.
Well to my real question if all that was just mumbo jumbo, how can I reset my phone back to stock (like apps, settings, etc) without losing root? Is it as simple as just selecting factory reset in the settings menu?
Well since your rooted how about flashing a stock rom,but make a backup and I'd your content with the stock rom then make a backup of that.

Doing a factory data reset will reset the phone back to what it was like out of the box. However It won't make you lose root.
Yes, you can factory reset. Root is in /system files, where when you wipe you only lose /userdata and /cache
Reboot into Recovery mode, select Wipe /data and /system and /cache and dalvik cache if you can, or make a selection similar to "Factory Reset". Be sure to not wipe your SD Card(s)
When you reboot your phone, it will be OOBE(out of box experience) so be sure to backup any call logs, texts, and user apps ahead of time. DO NOT backup/restore "system" apps as it will cause problems

Actually, do not wipe system unless you have a rom to flash on your ext sd. If you do, the only way to use your phone again is by using odin.

Good catch, sorry about misleading info there...always have your custom ROM on your SD Card
Thanks guys. I would have done the same mistake.
I have frozen some of the files, do I need to unfreeze them before I do this?
bump
Bumps allowed only once a day per forum rules. You're new, so we won't beat you...this time. lol
To answer your question, I don't think it would matter. I believe the settings that hold an app as frozen get wiped when you factory reset. If I'm wrong, it really shouldn't matter. What apps are frozen?
<Note3>
A lot was frozen but I did it anyways. I'm now hunting for what can safely be frozen so I don't fubar my phone
