Broken corners? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I have a 3 month old nexus 4 and this week I realized this small marks in 4 of the corners of the phone.... I have been using the bumper from day zero and only had two drops from less than 20 cm high... Always with the bumper.... Is it a plastic soldering point? Is this normal? Is it going to break and explode?
Am I the only one having this marks?
I'm afraid of my phone falling apart....

I have the same marks, no worries, it's normal

I was really freaking out... I know the phone is fragile because of the crystal and all... But this is way too much... I really take good care of it... But it's normal to have little drops when you are handling the device 80% of the time you're awake...
Thanks for saying it's something normal, it kind of calms me a bit...

(Q) is it normal for these screens.

Never owned a IPS screen or so.
Is it normal to have yellow tint on the edges when having a black background ? When I have a white background its pure white ( saw someone with yellow tint on white background) .
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Nope. That is one of the problems that some users are facing. You should RMA your 7.
It would be pretty bogus if that was how ALL IPS screens were, lol.

True. After hours or researched. I came up with not much to go off by lol.
PC screens with IPS screens were saying that yellow tint were cause by a glue not being dry out evaporated yet and the more you use it they tend to just go away and get Better. I guess iPad 2 had similar problems. Most of them advice to use it more and they will go away so I might try that . I'd hate to be without this for a week to 2 weeks. But then again I got mine at Sams but their put and no way of knowing when they we will one.
Didn't happen doh until I got some heavy duty gaming last night. So might have gotten hot and was evaporating the left over glue? Lol correct me if I am wrong but that's what I gather so far..

I don't have it in mine and don't know much about it but my roommates IPS monitor NEVER had a yellow tint.
And Google will do an advanced RMA where they send you one and put a hold on your credit card until you send the other one back.

What's their number or so. I couldn't find it or just looking at the wrong place lol. I'm sure they'll charge me and just bill out back correct? After I send that one back.

Squeaking sound

Hi. I've been using my n4 for a couple of months now and I'm pretty happy with it.
I take pretty good care if my phones. The thing is I just took the bumper and press near the two bolts at the bottom and felt a squeaking sound.... Can someone replicate this situation to see if it is my problem or is it that as time goes by the construction of the phone starts to fall apart?
The phone has never fallen in a more than regular way... Short distances over carpet...
Thanks

Gap between top bezel and glass

Is this the way the phone is supposed to be? There's a small gap between the top part of the bezel where it meets the glass. I try to keep my phone clean all the time but there are quite a few lint pieces and grime stuck in that gap. The bottom of the phone is tight. Never dropped it. It is an RMA

I think you can snap it back. Press it gently and it'll close.

As you can see the bottom is tight with no gap. The top has a big enough gap for dirt and debris and no way to get it out.

Definitely not normal, you should probably RMA again if you can't fix it by simple means like the one posted above

I have no gap on the top or bottom, and neither do any of the 5 others I know with N4s so yeah, RMA.
send that gaping gap back, son!

Called google play customer service and started the RMA process. Thanks guys

Not going well with my RMA. This was customer service response :
"Thanks for contacting Google. The*specialists*has informed me that the*gaps are to allow for expansion of the glass due to varying temperature and is an intended part of the design.
If you have any*further*questions please feel free to*respond*to this email."
Can some of you guys take some photos of your phones so I can send this robot? Any other suggestions?

Dude, I think even with photos, you would be hard pressed to change their mind. Cosmetic faults are always put down as subjective and not worthy of replacement. You should have told them that you were experiencing some technical fault i.e. frequent dropped calls.
If you aren't successful this time round, RMA it again with such an excuse...

I have the same issue but my gaps are much bigger and go throughout the whole screen. Dust and stuff goes in it. The front camera has a dark overlay whenever i use it due to all the dust that has gotten in there. I would RMA it but i bought it off a friend and im not sure if they want to accept it.
Here is a picture of a white door that i took outside using the front camera.

Its very dark and it has a weird dark overlay at the top.

Exhaust

Guyz is there any exhaust hole for heat emission in n4.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I think the speakers and/or the camera and flash serves as the exhaust.
the glass back is meant to transfer heat out(thats why it gets warm with use, thats why its glass).
I notice that compared to other devices I've had the N4 gets very hot..

it actually doesnt get as hot as most devices. but you can feel the heat more, because of the glass back. if it was plastic/metal, you wouldnt feel as much heat. it just means that the glass back is doing its job right. my galaxy nexus and nexus 7 get much warmer, but it isnt felt as much because the backs are plastic.

Of all phones in household between original nexus s, sensation, hd2, nexus 1, one x+ and n4, nothing comes close to beloved n4 . Few times I'd to end call as its fricking hot in ears and hand. Good thing at least keeping us warm in UK's summer cold

Far as everyone mentioning the glass back, I thought glass was an insulator, not a conductor (something like aluminum or such would dispel heat, glass wouldn't necessarily, as it's an insulator).

You mean aside from your USB port, headphone jack, edges around power and volume button, around the LED light, and speaker hole? Honestly I think people are making a mountain of a mole hill out of this, has anyone actually reported a Nexus 4 exploding in their pockets? (from overheating that is).
In any case if you're curious about the innards, check out this tear down of a Nexus 4.

I actually used to have a sensation and it didn't get nearly as hot as this phone does. Neither did my G1, My Touch, Vibrant, S2, or my wife's note 2...
Not a big deal but I could use the N4 as a heat source to keep warm in the cold... If it wasn't 100 degrees out that is

On my Gnex, you can feel the heat on the chrome part of the camera, which gets hot to the point that it feels like you'd get a little burn

No. LG suggests you drill several holes to prevent overheating as it is a VERY big issue for nexus owners. I attached a CPU fan to mine and it rarely hits 200°F anymore!

Back letters falling off

I'm just curious, has anyone ever gotten their Nexus letters at the back removed, as in the shiny black vinyl that covers them? The letters N, E and X were completely peeled off in my case in a matter of weeks when I was holding it, along with the adhesive.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Nope, but I've had a case on it since day 1...
Odd. Hasn't happened to me. (Happened to every BlackBerry Curve 8520 I had, though. Damn, that phone sucked.)
Wonder if it's affected by how you hold it. Definitely return it anyway.
Wait, I didn't even know that could happen, I though they were like part of the plastic.
You got a picture of it?
Do you have a wireless charger?
I have one and I have noticed that after charging it is kind of warm on the back and I have to wipe some kind of stain around some off the letters. Now that you mention your letters falling off it gets me
thinking that the glue could be melting away or something.
My N7 is only 7 weeks old and I'm using a Fatboy pillow for charging.

I had this same problem just a few days ago I noticed like a sticky residue seeping from the letters on the back and part of the letter lifting. I just removed all the sticker and cleaned away the sticky residue 'see attached pic' I actually prefer it without glued on sticky letters. Looks good I think.

Wireless charging here and my letters are falling off now also.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I use the wireless charging feature as well - no issues, and it spends all night - every night - on the charger.
I didn't know that there was plastic in the letters to make it shiny. When mine finally fall out on their own, I think I'll get some model paint and paint the letters in white. Or maybe bright red. Just to be different.
Really? They fall? lol, I though they were pretty much part of the case :b

Wow I didn't even know this was possible. Makes me not want to use wireless charging if it's going to destroy the design of my device.

Yup, it looks like this. I was thinking about removing the rest so it looks uniform again the hollow letters do look nice, though. I don't own a wireless charger so I don't think that's the issue.

No wireless charging here either it's just glued on stickers that are losing stick over time as they heat and cool.
I'ts just like black tape.
Sure it looked cool glossy but doesnt bother me, I just picked out my letters with my nail and cleaned it up.
I like the 'indented' look nexus on the back.
What assembly dates do you have on yours? Perhaps they just changed to a less strong glue or even applied less glue due to the first batches problem of stains/glue residue.
