Incredible battery drain? - Nook Touch General

On my second nook due to battery drain, getting terrible usage, lost 11% in 6 hours of no use. I've tried with and without a nook account, tried forcing it to sleep and letting it sleep by itself. Got wifi turned off.
Any ideas?

Is it rooted? Install Button Savior, and use the its soft power button to put the device into sleep mode from either the Nook Reader, Nook Home, or Nook Library apps. Seems to help for me.
If not, try pushing and holding the 'n' key until it sleeps from one of those apps. If that doesn't help, try sleeping by tapping the power button on the back.

Nope not rooted, it's for someone who is a techno-phobe so rooting would just confuse and overwhelm them.

It uses root only for finding the raw kernel wakelock.
rest of the things could be seen without root also..

Except you can't get better battery stats on the nook without rooting.

If I get what you're saying right, you' bought a brand new nook and it's draining that much out of the box? Sounds like it's defective to me. Odd that it's happened to you twice, Try doing a factory reset and see if it's still a problem, you may need to take it back and get a third one.
The only other time I've heard of that type of problem with hardware is when someone I knew bought from a random cheaper website (I believe it was an older kindle, not a nook but still), turns out it was some knockoff that didn't use the same parts inside. I don't know if maybe this could be your issue, but these things shouldn't drain the battery that quickly even with use AND root.
sorry if I misunderstood your problem =D

Does the tab feels warm? which is the highest battery usage app?
I used to have a issue whereby the media scanner service gone in an infinite loop scanning for songs in my device..
Have to hardreset to solve it. Normally my overnight drain is 5%, that is with wifi/bluetooth/gps/notification/background sync all on.
My issue was with Exchange. It was draining 30-40% of the battery overnight. After removing my exchange account I lose ~5%
no i am not using wifi all the time .
At night ts on standby wifi off, everything else is off.
even if i put in airplane mode still it drains .
but using the tab ,battery does not drain.
should i go to service center ??
do you have any apps running in the background? do you exit each application you use or just press the 'Home' button?

Well.. i recommend try hard resetting the device before returning it
When i first got the tab from M1, it ran into battery issues,
but mine is because of media scanner service
And when i connect to android debugger, it shows the media scanner trying to read my music files but failed, it goes in a infinite loop, making the tab heats up
Anyway my problem was solved when i hard reset to factory settings.
Plus i don link any of the samsung apps. (email, or social hubs)

Try pulling out your SD card and reset. Run without the SD card for a day to see if it's any better.

I always thought 15% drainage overnight is normal when you were not charging it. as there are many bloatware running in the background.
Anyway, you could install and run Taskiller and you can see Galaxy Tab 7.7 has a lot of background services running.
Not all of those services are useful, like SocialHub, and they cannot be uninstalled, but you can still freeze it with Titanium Backup Pro (a paid app, need root). You could consider other options like force uninstall (with root as well), but it is risky and not recommended.
Nevertheless, plugging your tab to charger while sleeping is good idea as it prolongs the battery life. The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last. Always avoid full-discharging.

Atrix won't boot (not a dead battery)

First off, I've done a search and haven't found a problem quite like this, as far as I can tell. My wife's phone about once a week won't turn on. I plug it into the wall charger, computer, nothing. Not even past the dual core screen. HOWEVER, I pop off the back cover, take out the battery, put it back in and it boots up. The battery can be nearly full and it still does it. It doesn't happen all the time. Just about once a week. The battery life seems to be fine, and it doesn't drain abnormally fast.
Is this a battery that is bad? I'm on stock OS.

It will not avoid your warranty *well it does* however you're able to use it (if you're in USA).
I had similar problem.
For me I think it was problem with the battery contacts. I don't think there was enough electrical current coming through. Try playing with the battery, after many nervy attempts, I got it right and since then there was no problem.

[Q] Battery drain, No deep sleep - from Android Kernel. Note 3

Hey guys, I have tryed to find same issue, but i dont seem to find anything that is exactly the same on this forum, yet i see it everywhere on the web/google.
I have a problem with my new 2weeks old note 3! It have problems maintaining a prober battery drain and its really pissing me off. I have to restart my phone everyday, its like its slowly building up overtime or overnight... mby even after i recharge it?
I wanted to post some links to my dropbox with screenshots of betterbatterystats and gsam battery, but cant right now because im new, so first up ill see if anyone have any idea without further explanation!
Im rdy to do allmost anything, but i have no idea how kernel and stuff like that can be fixed... :S
Heres some of the pictures from working and not working!
When working:

When being a ****ing pain in the ass- After first 2 hours:

2hours later on same charge:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3cpaq079rhsn1ng/FuB8_HFr4Z
Pay attention to the deep sleep, no increase in 2hours...
I really like touchwiz, but I HATE that I am forced to have bad battery because of some retarded fault in kernel!!!

Wow that looks much better than betterbatterystats, atleast easyer to understand! seems its samsung push and exchange mail that is the top users.. Could they both go under the category as a android kernel?
if you don't use exchange corporate mail you can freeze both apks. I use touchdown app for my corporate email, so those apps are also freezed.
I use the build in calendar, and its synced with my work calendar, so i use "Microsoft exchange activesync" to keep it updated. Could that really be the killer? according to gsam battery monitor my exchange "mail" is only 0.6% battery use while Kernel (Android OS) is 28.2% then its Android-System and then rest is below 2%..
Gonna share some screenshots when its gonna be available for me! This is really annoying me, knowing the phone can easly function and have battery for 2days+ the way i use it!

When I have a battery drain the first thing I do is give the phone a soft reset. Switch your phone off, take the battery out for a minute, reinsert the battery, do a cache wipe (start up in recovery mode by press and hold VolumeUp-, Home- and On/Off-buttons at the same time, and choose "Wipe cache partition"), then reboot.
Usually that solves the problem. If not, then I will start investigating what is causing wake locks etc.
If everything fails, than I do a factory reset.
To my feeling, people in general tend to do the investigation too soon, leading to nothing and forget to do the soft reset first (which doesn't delete any settings, apps or data, so there's no reason not to try it).
I had an unexplainable battery drain two weeks ago, solved by a soft reset as described, perfect battery since.
In location services (in Google Maps) I've switched off Location History and Location Reporting, which are known battery drainers, but that's pretty much all I do to prevent battery drain. I did notice that Nova launcher takes more battery than the stock launcher, but not enough to skip using it (at least not for that reason).

Even though it don't delete any settings etc. it still helps for some time. but my mobile is as close to stock as it can be, I hardly use anything that could cause this, except if its from android itself/samsung installations. Which it seems to be!
How often do you have to do such a painful reset? in my eyes, thats something you have to do, if its Broken!
Starting to belive its exchange, mail_service.
That specific one have 92x wakes in 2hours and all most 2mins used. I Think thats what keeps my phone from having deep sleep going. but its weird cause I only have it syncing calendar, which also show as a specific thing under the "mail_service" and it have like x2 wakes and less than 2sec used...
Apparently this bug is not new! Come on google!
I have read some people having kernel problems. .. and they have fixed it with changing kernel..
Do anyone know a good kernel for note3 ?
Speeking of the devil: today my Note3 wouldn't go into deep sleep again. Solved it by again by a soft reset, but start to wonder what triggers it. In my case I suspect the Tomtom app that I used yesterday, which gives me other problems as well every now and then (e.g. when the phone goes into stand by while Tomtom is running in the background).
I guess doing a soft reset on a regular basis is something I should do to keep my phone happy. In that, smart phones are not that different from PC's, which tend to show instability after a while as well if you don't restart them regularly.
But I do agree: in a perfect world it should not be necessary.

Just to make a thing clear though, I am not looking for battery saving tips etc. that would ruin the point of having a smartphone, its all those cool features that makes it worth buying. But knowing it can work WITH all these features and Not drain the battery, makes me crazy mad(I am at the point of returning it as being "defect")! It just destroys my experience of having it when I know something is not right. And it wasnt exactly cheap..
Anyone know anything about this?? Do the Screenshots help anyone? I am so close to the decission of rooting and then change kernel and rom this weekend if I dont find out why my phone is using this amount of power, When I know it dont have to!!
I've the same issue too on my completely stock set! Can't figure out what exactly is the culprit though ...

and I can't detect what's wrong with BBS either :/
I am also having the same issue with my Note 3. Always the same thing. Works OK for some time after a soft reset and then starts not deep sleeping properly. When viewing at Battery usage it usually shoes "Media" or "Android OS" or "IndexerServices" as the number one.
I am happy with my Note 3 but it is really annoying knowing that your battery is being wasted without real usage.

Lets keep this going, I am going to contact google about this when i figure out what it is, for now im just being super observing! I did a factory+cache reset this friday and now sunday evening its still working(didnt even charge it all weekend!!!)(https://www.dropbox.com/s/khjosuw9t207paf/Screenshot_2013-12-01-19-35-23.png) I havnt synced it with much yet, but I have a little bee buzzing in my ear, telling me that its very likely something with the samsung_push service/email. So atm I have NOT added any email to the phone. Going to charge it up over night, use it normally all day tomorrow AND- if it still works, ill then at evening add my work email and then do this kinda step by step and check when it ****s up. Cause who am I kidding, if I just contact google/samsung now, they wouldnt care ****.
any updates on this mystery?

[Q] Battery issues/questions

So, I've been having some battery issues lately and I can't really tell why. I haven't been doing anything too extreme, but my battery is almost dead within 12 hours of a charge, and the highest usage is mostly the Kernel and/or OS. I know next to nothing about that side of things, so I exported reports from GSam, and I'm hoping someone will be able to translate them for me if there's an obvious problem. Thanks in advance!
(I've also uninstalled Boxer, I only had it because Pro was free yesterday.)

Yes, I keep my Wifi and data on all the time.
Bad network will drain your battery. Check how the signal is.
Android OS and Kernel are normal between 12-25% on 4.4.2. It's an issue with the battery reporting.
It looks like you've got a wakelock. 12% per hour means it's not going into deep sleep.
Check Wakelock Detector to see if it's going into deep sleep or not. (It needs root for everything else, but that still works.)

That varies. At home, I have great signal (full-signal 4G, router is never more than 20 feet away). Some places in town, I can drop to 3G, especially my grandparents (although my grandma does have a router I'm connected to). There's a weird (unrelated?) bug where if I drop to 3G, I either have to turn airplane mode on or wait several hours until it reverts back to 4G, even though I'll be back in a verified 4G area.

I don't think they're related, but I can't be a hundred percent sure. You can try disabling both Google Search ones under apps -> all, see what that does to the info updates. If it scrambles them, just turn them back on.
(There's two Google Search, one is the search bar, the other is the app related to it.)
With that and Paypal dealt with, battery life should improve significantly.

Happy to help Let's hope that solves it! Also don't forget to greenify Paypal (Or uninstall it if you don't need it), as that seems to be the main culprit.

GApps on Rooted LG V20

Does anybody know if we are able to flash any other versions of GApps on the rooted LG V20?
My V20 is from AT&T and since day one it has had terrible battery life. Where I was able to use my Note7 or Droid Turbo all day and still have battery left, the V20 eats the battery charge like Sally Struthers in a See's Candy warehouse. I mean, I have to charge this thing at least 2 times a day when I use it to search the web or any battery intensive purposes. I never had this problem on any other phone. I have been trying to find ways to improve my battery. I used Rom Toolbox Pro to disable all kinds of stuff, and it worked great, until my phone started Grand Mal seizing giving me the Google Play Services has to close notifications, which I then had to factory reset just to get my phone working properly again.
I would like to try flashing a minimal version of GApps that pretty much just has the play store and play store services. Are we able to do this on our V20's without having any issues? If you have any input at all I would really appreciate it.
IMHO it must be an app or two you have installed draining your battery like that. On a full charge I can a whole day and a little in to the next. I am a heavy user too. Are you blasting the brightness at 100% all the time? If so auto brightness will help a little. Go in to setting and see what is using that much drain

I was thinking it might be something I installed, as well. But I can't seem to pinpoint any apps that might be causing the battery drain. I keep the screen on auto brightness like you mentioned so it shouldn't be the screen. GSam almost always shows the Android System and Kernel (Android OS) at the top of the list of battery-draining apps. I love the phone, I just cannot figure out what is going on. I mean, I am not doing anything different than I have on my previous phones, and the V20 seems to be working fine. I thought maybe it is something with Nougat. I will gladly post some pics of app usage or data if it might help figure this problem out.

What rom are you on? Are you on stock white theme? I'm running a dark theme, which can help save a little juice. I'm also running as many team blackout apps as I can (many Google apps) to avoid all the whiteness. Just throwing out some ideas.

Interesting! I have never heard of Team Blackout Apps, they look pretty nice! Yes, I am on the stock ROM just the way it comes. I haven't changed anything at all. I have barely installed any apps just to see if I can find what is causing the battery to drain. Are there any other ROMs that work with the AT&T variant of the LG V20? It seems like they haven't made any yet for the AT&T V20. I am still waiting for Xposed to be released that is compatible with nougat so I can use Amplify.

I don't think there are any roms for AT&T variant atm. I did see an AT&T user flashed the stock deodexed rom by tilde88 in rom section. Not sure of all the details though. I'm assuming you would lose some functionality...would need to flash stock kernel as well.
What is your leading source of battery drain under system usage?

Yeah definitely, I think it is a little bit too early, for me at least, to expetiment with a deodexed ROM. But I know there will be some awesome developments coming out soon. I was so happy to see that a root was figured out for the V20 so quickly after it was released. Until then, I will keep experimenting with the stock ROM.

Hi Swizzle82, thank you for the reply. It is kind of difficult for me to pinpoint what the leading source of battery drain is because the apps seem to bunch all detected processes and wakelocks together. I know that Call Services & Android System show up on top a lot of the time, but since I factory reset the phone today, the stats are minimal compared to what I previously had. WeChat also uses resources, but I used that app all the time on my Note7 and previous phones, even more than I do now, and it never caused a problem. I attached some screenshots from GSam, BetterBatteryStats, Wakelock Detector, and CPU Spy Reloaded., I don't know if they will help, but just switching between those few apps and taking some screenshots over the span of 6 minutes, my battery percentage dropped from 79% to 76%.

I had android system for a while killing me.. I factory reset and setup every app one by one with no data transfer or anything. Installed every app like it's first install. I charged it til it reached 100 percent, with the phone plugged in, I went to data/system/batterystars.bin and deleted that file and rebooted. It was a long process but it hasn't been an issue since. This was when the phone first came out last month. Never knew which apps data it was but it is gone now.

That sounds like a good idea to try. I will do this today since I already factory reset it yesterday. I would rather do it now before I get further into using it again. I have not heard about this until you mentioned it so maybe there is an issue with app transfers with the V20 causing it. The battery does seem to drain less than before, but it seems like there are still some issues. Thank you for the suggestion!

If you followed did the dirtysanta method, make sure you flash the Konverged kernel for the H918. Or Tilde88's 5.1 kernel for the H918. It worked wonders on improving battery life. Also make sure you disable Lookout - that drains a lot of battery it seemed to me at least. I usually get about a day and a half of battery life when I use my normal amount (which is honestly quite a bit).

Okay, thanks for letting me know! I have not even looked at those kernels thinking they weren't cross compatible with H910. I am going to try it right now with the dirtysanta method. I will disable Lookout, as well. There are a ton of apps that I never use that drain the battery. I will let you know how it goes :good:
Did you own a V10 or other Lg phone prior?

No, I had the Note7 before getting the LG V20. Before that I had a Note 4 and a Droid Turbo. This is my first LG phone and I really do love it. I actually like it more than the Note7, the only problem I have is the battery. I do think that factory resetting and manually installing the apps instead of restoring them will help, and using the Konverged kernel seems promising, from what I am reading.

Yup I always start fresh and install apps manually anytime I reset my phone. I think it's always nice to start fresh - even if it is sometimes a bit inconvenient to go through all the apps you've installed and choosing which ones to install. Hopefully you get it all sorted out!

Okay, I just factory reset the phone, rooted it with DirtySanta, and flashed the Konverged kernel and the phone is NOTICEABLY faster and smoother! This is great! Each time I reset the phone, it had noticeable lag. I just figured it would go away over time, which it did, and that it was because it had to load and download everything since it was fresh. But with the Konverged kernel, it has none of the lag and is silky smooth! Time to manually install the apps I want and disable some stuff I don't need. I will update you guys after I see how the battery is with the new setup Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate all the input!:good:
I need your help! I changed the screen cover sensor to off not realizing that I would not be able to turn off the static after rebooting my phone since the sensor is off. Would somebody please post a few screenshots showing how to navigate to the screen sensor settings so I can tap my way there and turn it back on? I am trying but there is no way to tell where to tap with all the static. Thank you!
Nevermind, I fixed it! I finally navigated to the second screen settings and turned it off when the screen is off and that got rid of the static after I turned the screen off then on again. Note to self, never do that again LOL.

Wow I'm fairly impressed you managed to do all that with the static screen haha - glad to hear it worked out for you in the end.
Get me your stock system.img and boot.img, and I'll make you a modded ROM with a custom kernel!

Haha yeah, I never knew something like that could cause such a huge problem. Now I can't seem to find what I did to cause that in the first place. I have been looking through all of the settings and can't seem to find anything that affects the proximity sensor. On top of that, the screen rotation stopped working, it will not rotate when I turn the phone to the side to type. I have toggled all of the motion and second screen settings, calibrated the motion sensor, and nothing is affecting it. When I turn the main screen off, the sensor does not shut off the second screen when I cover it with my finger, and the phone does not recognize when I rotate the screen. I am kind of at a loss on how to fix it.
