Samsung Galaxy S, Very disturbing glitch when using mp3 as a ringtone

Hi
This is my first post on this forum. I am using galaxy S for over an year now, and have been experiencing a very strange problem:
All Kind of music files and videos play fine on my phone. Using a headphone and with speakers. But when I assign any mp3 song file as a ringtone, there is a very disturbing noise comes along with the music, when my phone rings. I also experienced the same thing when I try to play any mp3 file by going to file browser and playing it directly from there (Not by browsing the file into mp3 player songs list).
Phone Hardware Information:
Firmware Version: 2.3.3
BaseBand: I9000DDJV5
BuildNumber: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
Hi,
Can please anyone help me on this issue. Im also exploring whether Rooting the phone will solve this issue.
Thanks,
~Pankaj G
Don't know if it could help, but what about to try factory reset? If you will still get that noise maybe it will be HW speaker problem.
Hi.
So that problem you described has been present ever since you got your phone? Have you had the same OS version the whole time or have you tried any other roms out there? If that noise problem occures only in the case of using MP3 as a ringtone, it seems to me to be merely a software problem which might get fixed by trying a different rom (like Team ICSSGS's RC4.2).
I would also start by updating software.
If you have not rooted the phone yet, connect your phone to pc in Kies mode, start Kies and update to latest firmware.
If you have already rooted the phone and Kies doesnt recognize it, start reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Easy way:
Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - All - Media Storage
Press button "Clear data", exit settings and reboot phone.
Just can't see why rooting phone would remedy your problem.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. To start with your queries, when I bought this phone, it was on Froyo, and there was no such problem. But then I updated to the current version i.e. Gingerbread 2.3.3 using Kies. When I updated initially there was no problem, but then after 2-3 days I started experiencing this problem.
And yes I tried to do a factory reset, but it didnt help. and the current version is the most recent version as per Kies.
Also, my phone is not rooted as of now and Im also willing to explore that option to solve this issue.
But the problem is that I have no idea about what exactly is the rooting of phone, what exactly is a ROM and what are the best ways of rooting and bricking the phone too. It will be very nice of you all, if I can be given a link to study about android OS and rooting methods.
Also, I am trying to record a video to show my phone's problem. Will share it as early as possible.
Thanks,
~Pankaj G
Did you try the method O-T suggested?
To answer your other question start by reading this

Thanks jjuki for the reply......yes i tried O-T's method and it didn't worked.
Still no progress
Hi All,
Im still stuck with issue. Please let me know if anyone out there have any more ideas.
Thanks,

[Q] HELP: my GT-I9505 is randomly turning off and on again

Hallo all! I really HOPE someone might help me with a really annoying issue:
I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 Black-Edition (Modelnumber: GT-I9505). From day one I rooted the phone
(CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar.md5)
but still use the samsung stock Rom. My Android version is 4.4.2 and I had the genuine firmware-version I9505XXUGNF1 from the Samsung homepage (sammobile).
.. Everything has been working perfectly for about a month, but then suddendly my phone startet to turn off and on again randomly by itself. Note that the turning on is much quicker then the regular booting-up (after I properly shut the system down) and that the autonomious turning on does not require the PIN-code.
I tried to fix this problem by:
- removing the external Memory-Card,
- removing the sim-card,
- deinstalling busybox,
- completly whiping the system (via TeamWin recovery) and installing EVERYTHING from scrach (no Backup-restoring) --> tried this four times!,
- installing the latest firmware-version I9505XXUGNG2,
- changing the battery,
- COMPLETLY canging the device: (installing EVERYTHING from scrach (no Backup-restoring) on a completly new device (new Galaxy S4 Black-Edition)) --> same problem!
--> NOTHING WORKED OUT!!!! So I'm REALLY annoyed about that!
Note, that after a complete restoring of the system, the phone works perfectly for some days - maybe 4-3 - and then the turning-off-and-on terror returns.
I put a screenshot of my battery-trajectory as an attachment. You can see two vertical lines indicating that the phone has turned itself off for a short ammount of time.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the cause for that issue? Is there anyone sharing the same problem? What could I try to solve that problem? Is there mayby a taskmanager-app logging systemerrors, so I could check, what happened before the turning off?
I'm VERY thankful for any sort of help!

Hi Mate,
Not saying this is your problem but i seen some people having issues with the power button , symptoms are similar to your random reboots like in constant reset....check the power button see if is stock and easy way to check is try to go to recovery without pressing the power button.....if is really stuck or short out you should be able to go to recovery without ( for a short time) ....that will prove that the problem is coming from there...
Of course if is very sporadic wait until is happening for testing ..
I had the same problem before because I disabled knox using supersu. What I did was delete all knox related apps and everything is good.
Many users had this problems with Knox as well. Try to uninstall everything relating to Knox, maybe it will work

Well.. What can I say? Thank you SOOOO MUCH!! The problem is solved! Indeed, deleting all Knox-Entries via Titanium Bakup really solved the problem. Now, everything is fine and the system runs smoothly. Again, thank you very much!

Hi PIMPL
am curious about this because today my S4 started to do random shuts off. So your phone never showed the problem again after uninstalling all the Knox stuff? I have an I9500 Android 4.4.2; everything stock, non rooted.
Thanks!

I have the same issue at the moment - Phone is completely standard (Not rooted). All has been good until the morning of the 30th August when there was a new firmware update applied. I had already had the Kit Kat update earlier in August and the phone had been working with no issue, since this 220Mb odd 'patch' the phone will just randomly reboot, I say random but it just seems after it has been idle (Screen off) for a while on unlocking I can start an app (pretty much anything) and about 5 seconds later the phone will reboot. As the OP mentioned it is a faster than normal reboot and it doesn't play the normal start up sound either.
I am not sure what the update did, it mentioned ironically that it was fixing stability issues!!! - Is there a way without rooting the phone to roll back the firmware to before the patch?
Cheers.
Factory reset worked too
I have been struggling with a similar problem on my GT-I9505 since receiving a system update on May 30, 2014 -- random reboots many times a day, plus fairly reliable reboots about 30-40 seconds into any received phone call. I tried cleaning caches, uninstalling recently installed apps and then other unneeded apps, installing new updates, and lots of other things. My last resort was rooting and removing Knox as suggested here. But first I tried a factory reset, and it worked! I've now gone several days without an unintentional reboot. It's a pain to have to restore backups and reinstall apps, but it was worth it. I hope this information is helpful to someone.
Issues on my CF auto-rooted GT i9505
My firmware is the stock I9505XXUGNG8-DBT and rooted with CF Auto-root.and Phill''s CWM.
1. When I wake up my phone by pushing the home button my first screen is frozen until I push the home button again for 2 or 3 seconds. Only since then I can use my apps.
2. By incomming phone calls my phone reboots and I lose contact, so they have to call me again, Then everything is well.
3.The time on my homescreen doesn''t synchronize until I push the home button for the second time waking up the phone .
I already used SSCF Xposed. That didn''t help.
Somebody the same issues. Or somebody who got some tips for me.

I guess this will help. Knox often causes this issues. Just uninstall everything relating to Knox with Titanium Backup

I'm having the same problem as OP.
I've frozen all Knox related apps in Titanium Backup, but the problem persists. Do I need to fully delete the apps do you think? Is there a difference?

I think I solved my problem: I deleted all Knox related items and when I rebooted my phone again it stucks on the Samsung logo. I installed the stock I9505XXUGNG8-DBT again with Odin. Installed CF Auto-root.and Phill''s CWM again. Installed Supersu again.
Now everything is working again without the frozen screen, time synchronizes and no booting by incoming phone call anymore.

But you need to do one factory reset.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
But that will remove the Lollipop right? I will make sure to backup everything. but will i need to re-update my phone? Cant i downgrade it to Kitkat again without rooting?
The factory should not remove the OTA update, but it will wipe your internal storage plus all your installed apps. So you definitely want to back up everything before you go any further. And even if it does wipe the OTA update, you simply download it again and then let it take. You won't have to do the wipe again since you already did it.
Once you upgrade the bootloader to Android 5.0.1 you won't be able to easily revert to Android 4.4.x, if at all.
I am facing the same problem. i did a factory reset after updating.
I am facing exactly as your problem. I hope there's a solution to this except flashing back to kitkat.

lockscreen after lollipop update
Hi guys, hope you can help me,
When my s4 was on kitkat, if i received a message but i take the mobile after a few seconds (when the screen turns off), it would vibrate and the screen will light up automatically
But after the lollipop update when i move my mobile , it will only vibrate, but the screen will not light up. Can anyone tell me how to enable it to light on automatically again.
The overheating issue is well known with Android Lollipop update across devices.
No factory reset can solve that issue.
I have moved out of the official Samsung ROM and am running Exodus 5.1.1 custom ROM without external memory card.
Heat is manageable. However, I feel the best ROM for Galaxy S4 was KitKat 4.4.2.
In that case you can even try using Aurora ROM for S4.

[Q] Flashed S4 - No Mobile Data suddently?

Hi
Ill try to be as detailed as possible
I was running XXUGNJ8 rooted on my GT-I9505 with no problems (latest in my region (NEE)), and i decided to try Google Play edition 5.0.1. rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353 )
To do this i flashed CWM 6,0,44 (if i remember correctly), installed the rom zip file via CWM. I selected Googy_Anas Kernel.
The problem now is, i cannot use my mobile data? Ive tried all, manually selecting APN etc.
Ive also Reflashed the XXUGNJ8 modem Both 2g/3g and 4g version TWICE in a row.
Yet i still cannot use my Mobile Data??...
I can text, receive calls etc with no problems. Also my wifi works fine.
Btw:
2 Other problems, if any1 know how to fix
1. When i tried calling using headset, the call kept ending itself randomly, and the media volume turned up to like 8 from 1. (ouch.)
2. The Volume seems to be louder??? When i lisent to music at volume lvl 1 it sounds more like 3-4 when i was running Kitkat 4.4.2 (XXUGNJ8).
SOLVED!!!:
I still have the 2 Volume problems, but i fixed my network!
I found this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/help/cyanogenmod-11-roaming-problem-t3070696
The second post by Kanzari fixed my problem. - The weird thing is that my carrier specifies NOTHING about MVNO type settings, and i mean nothing. Anyway, have a look if u have the same problem.
Still looking for solution to the volume problem, so if any1 knows id appreciate it
