[Q] Transfer files between phone and laptop via WiFi Direct? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Is there a way to transfer files between your laptop and Galaxy S4 in a manner similar to using S Beam? Is there some sort of dongle for your computer that will let you pair your devices to transfer files?

The best you can do is turn your SDCard into a access point through a app. But no USB tethering over wifi.
I rooted my phone had wifi on and I was tethering it to my laptop via usb

I'd like sabnzbd for android, that way it could download straight to the device and repair/extract after the download finishes
GetNZB (from the Market) allows you to download nzbs from nzb.org and upload to an FTP server. I use it for uploading nzbs to my NAS which polls for nzbs in a specific folder then starts downloading.

I've got sabnzbd working on my xoom. I installed ubuntu using the guide on this forum (in android developments) once it was working a quick "apt-get sabnzbdplus"gets it installed. Then edit the /etc/default/sabnzbdlus to set the user as root.
Once its running connect to 127.0.0.1:8080 and it'll bring up the wizard.
Tada. ;-)
You can install transmisson this way as well with a quick "apt-get install transmisson-daemon" then connect to 127.0.0.1:9091

The only one I know of is NewzDroid.
EZ Usenet guys. It is for Easynews if you have an account and you can download directly to your Xoom or android device. Works great...free version has 15 days of news and paid is of course more days..

Sending file through wifi direct?

How do I send files through WiFi direct? On all my other devices I can go to any file manager and choose to send via WiFi direct... This seems to be not available. Why? I feel like this a crucial method of sending large files way faster than Bluetooth.. If anyone can help me out it would be great!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
WiFi direct is a function of the OS. You have to have a program that is capable of using it. I have transferred files via WiFi direct using OfficeSuite Pro successfully.
You can download WiFi direct. It's kind of hit and miss
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
yeah thank you!
wifi direct seems like such a use full feature, why it isnt more widely implemented i do not know,
but yeah ive tried wifishoot and yeah any wifidirect apps seem to be hit n miss, plus with standard os, it doesnt help you much and doesnt seem able to send many files by standard? (gallery, image, share, no wifi direct option most of the time)?
Don't understand why that is I have a Galaxy Note 2 and I just got this nexus which I sold my Galaxy Tab for and I find it ridiculous that I can't send files through wifi direct because bluetooth is so slow and I don't have an external memory for this Nexus so it makes it so much harder now to transfer files without wifi direct. I see this as a big let down and I expect the Nexus to have this ability throughout the whole operating system. Why is wifi direct even an option in the Nexus if we can use it for anything I even connected with another phone through wifi direct and had that other phone try to send me a file on the Nexus blocks it because it says it doesn't allow media sharing. I'm a bit let down

I use an app called peerdeviceconnect. It's on the play store and links two or more devices that have the app installed. Then when you select an app to share the option of using it is shown. It has the create Wifi direct network option built into it.

i use airdroid to move things to and from my pc but it never works that well from android to android with dolphin browser, would a differnet browser make a difference?
use wifi file transfer, i used it to transfer files from my phone to my friend's ipad https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransfer&hl=en
of course, the free version can only allow you to send files of a certain size, but you can do a little search on google, for the full version

Superbeam may do the trick!
Definitely pushbullet. I use it to transfer around my tablet, phone and computer over WiFi and it works like a dream!

Ftp Server Pro is good for me, but it's more for connection between PC and phone/tablet. The apps mentioned above: WiFi File Transfer and Superbeam looks very easy to use.

what windows program can i use to browse phone files?

I need to extract some files from the phone itself (data for certain apps) but my screen is completely busted and I can only turn the phone on and connect via USB. Any windows program I can use to extract information ? My phone was/is rooted

Try to use hdmi on big TV with mouse. And install root explorer.
Then you will be able to see all things which you can't see in your broken screen.
Try.
