Q1) What are custom kernels? What are the benefits of using custom kernels?
A kernel is basically the bridge between the software and hardware. Whenever you command your phone to do something (launching an app), the software sends that request to the hardware which in turn, makes the launching of the app possible. Custom kernels for Android are unofficial creations of independent developers. Unlike the kernels that OEMs make, custom kernels offer more modifications that allow you to tweak your phone in every possible way.
Benefits Of Installing Custom Kernels
You can benefit from having better control of your device. These options are most helpful for users who want to maximize the full potential of their phone or perhaps want to extend their device's battery life. Below are some of the benefits of installing custom kernels.
-Adjust CPU frequencies and set profiles like OnDemand, Battery Saving, etc.
-Underclock and overclock CPU speeds
-Underclock and overclock GPU speeds
-Adjust voltage
-Adjust touch screen sensitivity
-Equip your phone with BLN (backlight notifications)
-Custom recovery that allows backups and restorations of entire ROMs as well as installation of .zip files
-Minimum screen brightness pushed past the limitations of stock kernel
-Conserve battery (with the right settings
Q2) Where can I get the AK kernel and which one should I flash?
The latest kernel is always linked in the OP.
Q3) How do I make changes to my kernel settings? (ex: voltages, fastcharge, etc.)
Download the Trickster Mod from the Google Play store.
Q4) Can I use AK on xxxxx rom?
AK is known to work on any rom based on AOSP, AOKP, CM10, ChameleonOS, and KickFlip.
Q5) How do I install it coming from another kernel?
TWRP is the prefered recovery, although CWM recovery may also work.
The ideal way to install AK, especially if you are coming from another kernel, is to do the following.
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Wipe /system
Re-flash your ROM
Flash AK
Fix permissions in recovery (this may take up to a minute or two)
Reboot
Q6) Do I need to wipe cache/dalvik/battery stats/etc if I'm just installing the kernel onto a previous AK version?
No, download and flash away. Only wipe battery stats if your battery percentages are off. Do not believe the myth that doing so will increase your battery life.
Q7) Do I need to run any other apps like SetCPU or equivalent?
No, if you plan to install and run Trickster Mod, please uninstall any other apps that may interfere with your CPU settings. If you are still running into problems (ex: reboots, FCs, etc.) please check your /etc/init.d directory for any left over scripts from other rom or kernels. These may interfere with how AK operates.
Q8) What is Smart Reflex? What is FSync? What is Thermal Throttling?
Smart Reflex is used to scale your voltages. Voltage will be increased or decreased when required. If you are overclocking, disable SR to have access to higher clock speeds.
FSync is a system call that can be toggled on to write buffers to disk (slow) or toggled off (fast) for performance. FSync defaults to on in the linux kernels, the option to disable it exists but it is advised to use this with caution. COMPLETE data corruption could occur if the phone crashes with fsync disabled.
Thermal throttling protects your CPU from overheating. If you are benchmarking, turn this option off to prevent throttling of the CPU that can cause lower scores. Just remember to re-enable it afterwards. Bear in mind that at 110C, the CPU will shut down no matter what. It is not advised to disable thermal throttling, however the option exists for those enthusiasts who are aware of the risk of permanent hardware damage. Please take the necessary precautions!
Q9) What is the sleep of death (SoD)?
You turn the screen off, when you want to pick it up, you can not wake it up.
There is no blinking notification and when you call it, there is no ringing or vibration. When you press and hold power, it does not turn on, otherwise it was OFF.
If you play a game and it reboots, or freezes. That is NOT a SoD.
Q10) Can xxxxx option be implemented in AK?
Feel free to request features within this thread or the dev thread. Whether or not it gets implemented is up to Stefano.
Q11) I want to keep my Rom's bootanimation, why does AK kernel keep trolling me?
The boot animation by Ciprian is hardcoded so it cant be changed.
Q12) How is battery life?
No one can predict your usage. However, most folks are getting great screen on time and performance.
Q13) I just experienced a reboot, how can I help to pinpoint the problem?
Open up terminal emulator and issue the command:
Code:
cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg.txt
Take this last_kmsg.txt file and show it to Stefano in this thread. It's suggested to copy the contents and use something like pastebin instead of spamming the thread with your log.
Any other things that should stand in the FAQ? Did I make some horrible language mistakes? Write me a PM or post in this thread.

Many people face the problem of messed up battery stats, so i thought of making a small guide on how to fix your phone's battery stats. Their are two methods to fix your battery stats ( 'how to know that your battery stats are messed up?' Is in the second post if someone doesnt gets in between;-) )
Instructions:
*firstly, you require root explorer from the market or you can use' file expert' from the market( file expert is free).
*firstly, charge your phone to 100% percent battery.
then.......
*Using root explorer- open 'root explorer'--then in 'system' open 'data' then open 'system' their you will find a file 'batterystats.bin', you have to delete that file by long pressing on it( note: you must mount r/w then only you can delete it).
*using file expert- firstly you have to press menu key when you open file expert then open ' more', then open 'settings' ,then open ' file explorer settings' , then scroll down to bottom and tick root explorer and then re launch the application. Then you have to follow the same instruction as what you did using root explorer i.e. goto 'system'--'data'--'system'--delete ' batterystats.bin' file.
*Then after you delete batterystats.bin file you must discharge your phone until it switches off and then charge your phone until it shows 100% battery( note: make sure that during discharging you dont reboot your phone or the system will create a new batterystats.bin file or if already made, it will get corrupted and you will have to start again from first step).
Note: these methods are not permanent and your battery stats may again get messed up any day, then you should repeat the method from first step.
I used an app called "battery calibration" which deletes the batterystats.bin file...

Did ur battery life improve mate?
it doesnt improve the battery life, it just calibrates the readout of the battery status to be consistent with the actual capacity of the battery
cheers
Thanks for the info! will look for the app
I did the one that wipe battstat via recovery mode
Sent from my GT-I9001 using Tapatalk
I dont know which method to is correct..now i'm doing this...
Charge batt to full, using root explorer delete batterystat.bin
But i google theres more guide is like this...
Switch off phone, charge till full, go to recovery mode, wipe batterystat...reboot, wait till full batt notification then unplug charger...but this way the batterystat.bin is appear in the system coz reboot after wipe...
So, the correct way is to let the batterystat.bin there after wipe or delete it or need to wipe/delete it again when it appear???

Hi guys, I'm one of the testers of Supreme bean v5 rom before it was approved to go online, and I observed the forum and a lot of people have a lot of questions about installing the rom and the Note 3 package.
So, I'm sharing with you what needs to be done in order to install the right way, get the max performance, batt life, how to avoid FCs and some known errors, ways to correct them and what to expect from the device + some mods you would like to have
This Guide can also be followed for Hurricane rom, Phoenix, Jellykat, Dr. Ketan's and all possible roms out there with of course, logical reasoning required
And make sure you read the entire post as it will save you a lotttt of google searches and time searching for answers.
Please also note that following these methods will void your warranty, so dont tell me later I never told you so
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1
Case 1> You are coming from Android v4.1, not rooted, not modified
a) Then you would have to update the bootloader to mj5 which is available in this forum as well as install wifi patch.
b) Then you would also have to install a custom recovery such as Philz or twrp And this will be done through ODIN.
Case 2> your warranty is already void and have a custom recovery in place
Before install, super wipe. And I dont mean just clearing cache, preload and system folders. Use of Philz recovery recommended, update to the latest if possible. Use the "clean to install new rom" option under wipe data/factory reset. I havent seen an other recovery that does a better job than philz. I've made thousands of flashes, and not once my EFS was affected.
After using the option clean to install a new rom, head over to the mounts and storage area and use the option "format /sdcard", before using this option though, make sure you backup the folders pictures, DCIM and whatsapp if you plan on restoring the conversations that you've had. This is equally important if you play a lot of games. Games have a tendency to leave behind huge clusters of junk.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 2
Install the rom, and dont flash any mod or pack just yet, reboot. Allow the rom to complete all the necessary after install procedures. Complete setup and just make sure play store updates itself and camera is working all right.
To install mods or Note 3 pack or a custom kernel, reboot now to recovery
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 3
Installing Note 3 pack:
On roms such as Phoenix, Jellykat, Xperiazised rom, note 3 pack comes as preinstalled. So, the further steps can be skipped until step 4.
in case of Supremebean, as @geekynoob is working on his Note 3 pack, he suggests to use either Tamirda's or Hurricane's Note 3 pack.
Installing note 3 pack increases ram consumption and battery consumption, and puts in some bloat which might give errors so proceed only if there is an absolute need for note 3 pack, otherwise can be skipped.
Considering the fact that we install Note 3 pack, it is done in 2 ways,
1> right after flashing rom, flashing note 3 pack without reboot
2> complete rom setup and then flash note 3 pack with reboot
Although I recommend the second method, the first one is also quite possible if you just want to save some time. However, during setup, when asked to sign in to samsung account, skip that. As cloud services are natively missing in the rom, You will receive a "network error" toast notification during sign in. So, skip that. Rest is as normal. Follow the on screen instructions.
Now the rom has to be pretty much setup to your requirements
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 4- Mods
1> To change DPI
There are 3 ways of doing this
a) build.prop edit
b) installing a 240 dpi mod pack
c) using Texdroider dpi
Although all the 3 methods do the same job, i would not recommend the second method as it installs system files which can be much older than the rom base and can lead to some FCs or errors. Now if you find the first method too tedious, use the app called Texdroider dpi from play store to do that job. Its as easy as install, change values and reboot. Its the easiest way to change dpi on any rom,
2> Customization
To everyone who hates the stock look, or if looking for something different, use xposed module. I prefer wanam by choice as almost every option in it works. There are options available such as gravitybox, xblast and others which do the similar job. Here, you will be the best judge on what you want, and how you like the rom to be and function.
3> Custom kernels
There are options of Kernels available, but I personally prefer Agni. Tried almost all kernels possible out there on all the roms, and I mean literally. And Agni give me the best out the best possible batt performance and enhanced smoothness.
Use these settings in Agni as recommended by geekynoob
"Profile- normal
CPU governor- yanks zzmove
Max CPU freq- 1600mhz
CPU undervolting to -30mv
Gpu -50mv
Min 200mhz
Touch 2 wake off
Lmk medium
Power saving balancer set to max"
4> Disable motion, NFC, Air Gestures and all possible things that you dont use as it consumes CPU usage and battery as well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats is guys. These are all the suggestions that I can think of at the moment. If you need anything else, let me know, by replying to this post.
Have fun customizing the rom.
And as always, thank me if this post helped you. :silly:

Excuse me for bad English
And after the success of the mod that I realized that solved the vast majority of defects audio Nexus 5, I came back more determined than ever to solve once and for all the lags problems that afflict LG G3. By following this simple guide (consisting of more parts with the help of various tools) will restore to life your G3 which eventually will be made the most of its hardware and power!
Requirements: terminal with root permissions
Rom: this procedure was tested on lollipop roms type AOSP (cyano 12 based), but it should easily run also on based rom LG , kitkat and lollipop.
Step 1
The first step towards the elimination of the lag is the installation of the app Seeder from playstore (which many of you already know). So you open the app, set it on, then crossed out the boxes "Suspend RNG service while screen off" and "Start automatically on boot" (the second option instead leave it unchecked) and then set the mode profile Aggressive.
Step 2
Disable (or at least delay as much as possible) the thermal control of LG, in order to avoid that the temperature increase leads to an automatic underclock and to a drop in performance of the CPU.
Flashing then zip through recovery from this file: LINK
In the case of the based LG rom is preferred instead to use this method here.
Step 3
Enable hardware rendering and disable the overlay hardware.
Go to the developer options in your rom (if don t appears the option, you must activate it before going into the phone info and more by clicking on the name of the build until it is given the confirmation message) and enable the option "Force GPU rendering".
Now just below is another important option that should be activated, "Disable HW overlay"; unfortunately happens that this option once activated is constantly disabled when you restart the phone, and then you will be forced to re-enable it manually. To avoid this will appeal to a startup script automatically. Download it at this link, and create a folder in your internal memory (which for convenience we will call scripts) and paste the downloaded file inside.
Now download the app from the market "init.d scripts support" of RYO Software. Open it and set it as follows; check the "Run scripts at boot time", set in the Execution Delay the option No Delay and then select the folder that you created in the internal memory and in which you have pasted the script (making sure to save the selected folder , so that coming back should view the route chosen precisely - just indicate only the folder, the script file inside do not see but do not worry!). Now reboot and you should see that at boot of the phone the script application will start automatically (when loading the script itself), and so in the options developer you will have the option "disable overlay" always active without the need for manual activation every time.
Step 4
At every change of rom or update of the same rom, make fstrim procedure (because this phone is plagued by bug trim). Download the app from the playstore called "emulator terminal" (by Jack Palevich), open it and type on
su
fstrim /date
fstrim /system
fstrim /cache
Alternatively you can use the app called lagfix from playstore.
Now enjoy your LG G3 lag free !!!
If there is no cost on battery life after apply this mod, its worthed to try.
Installed and working fine for now more fluid and lab free, anyway need more testing.

I will post in. Couple of days what my battery status
UPDATE: I noticed that disable the thermal control inevitably cause to a greater increase in temperature of the terminal and the consequent reduction in battery life, of course, for the benefit of better performance. If you do not want that, you can go directly to step 3 and skip this step.

Did that my self from the start and still working like charm, battery considering, looks like this have no impact on battery life for now.
I got random reboots after doing the thermal mod and developer settings change. Resored from the recovery...
remember guys the Step 2 CAN actually damage your hardware.
first time i did this after few minutes my device got so hot i could not keep my finger on the power button to bring up the power menu. so it can burn your device internally!

Hello guys this is my first time posting here on the OnePlus 3T forum and this guide is for those who want the latest builds (4.x.x) but not quit the battery drain that comes with them
1- A Rooted Oneplus 3/3T on Stock or Freedom Os with TWRP recovery
2- Franco Kernel R10
3- Governor Tuner / Download link for Version 3.9 / Link of the description of this Mod
4- Busybox
1- Flash Franco kernel & Busybox or use Apps From the Play Store Franco Updater + Busybox on Rails reboot and make sure your rom now supports init.d if not flash this
2- Boot a second time to recovery and Flash GovTuner_3.9.zip i recommand wiping ART/ cache
3- Now go to Terminal Emulator and type:
Command lignes
su
govtuner
4-Select number "1" and hit Enter to apply battery profil then wait 3 seconds
5- Now Select "p" and hit enter then "y" to apply the mod
NOTE : Make sure that it shows ini.d : Active and not init.d: deactivate if not you will have to use Universal ini.d otherwise the mod can't be applied on boot and you will have to reapply it manually.
Also you need to give it 3 battery circles before actually getting passed 7 hours of SOT on heavy use
Good luck Hit thanks

This is just stupid, why are people making these guides.
If you can't get 7 hours sot without any of this stuff, then youre doing something wrong, the 3T has perfectly capable battery.
I installed universal init.d but after selecting a profile, terminal emulator brings me back to the same screen. theres no options for "p" or "y" to activate. Just "1" to select.

I recommend flashing governor tuner 3.9 for power efficiency mod if u downloaded a previews release update it
Universal ini.d is for those who encounter bugs causing the profil to not be applied on boot so if u have in the last ligne
Init.d: active
Then you have full support and you don't need the app

NOTE : Make sure that it shows ini.d : Active and not init.d: deactivate if not you will have to use Universal ini.d otherwise the mod can't be applied on boot and you will have to reapply it manually.
Also you need to give it 3 battery circles before actually getting passed 7 hours of SOT on heavy use

Hey, just (re)installed after updating to 4.0.3 but it keeps saying init.d is not available.
Tried flashing the init.d enabler, but that says init.d is available already.
And, anyway, I can confirm init.d is working just fine.
Any clue?
EDIT: D'oh! Just realized I didn't reboot after flasking Kernel!
Thanks!

He's part of CrDroid team, so it's official.
DPI changer is sortof present already in the ROM.
Just installed it today, quite like it.
no 4G-LTE
working!!
Memory optimization is wayyyyy too aggressive, apps get killed with multiple gigs of memory free.
Edit: I'm starting to think this is an aggressive power saving feature in 8.
Is this official?

Awesome! Thank you. :good::laugh:
Can confirm that 4g doesn't work.
Thank you for this awesome rom! I installed it yesterday and everything seems to be working, it also has an incredible customization! I really like this rom so far, i'll see how is the battery but for now seems similar to LOS.
P.S.: for me 4G works without any problem, i'm from Italy and i have Tim (Telekom)
Figured it out, 4g LTE is disabled by default in this ROM (why???), enabled LTE and now I have 4g.
To fix this,
Settings > Network & Internet > Data Usage > Top right | Mobile Networks.
Expand advanced, Tap "Preferred network type" and select something with LTE ( the first one is probably best ). You should see that there is a preferred network type selected that does not contain LTE.
To prevent apps from being killed quick type in doze in the search bar, select the only option and deselect what should not be killed.
I considered disabling this altogether as I have the 6GB version, but I don't need this + I care about battery life.

thanks I could not imagine that I had to configure it now it works perfectly

Trying to splitscreen two apps where one is not compatible will lock up the phone as such that I need to reboot to get out of the program.
I also notice the device heating up a bit more than normal and the battery draining a bit faster.
Where can I find the "hold volume to skip track" controls?
I like the ambient screen, but skipping a music track wakes the device (due to a notification) and then skipping the song again will instead blast my ears into oblivion (which isn't nice fyi). I tried to fix this with tasker, but using doze_enable just causes my phone to lock. Right.
Did some more digging, appears there is a setting that disables music tracks from triggering ambient screen. That's very close to what I want, only toggle I'd want is that volume rockers can still change track even when ambient screen is on and active. Heck make hold always skip a track when music is playing, I never in my life held the volume rockers down with the intention to increase the volume by much.
As it's supposed to be.
I made a rum installation. Everything works so well until now.I would like to thank those who have done this work.
Another small bug, there is no deadzone for pulling down the notification bar when in expended desktop mode.
E.g. If I have moon reader open and I want to open the notification bar I scroll through (sometimes a lot of) some text.
But aside from all these issues ( which are all very minor ) I am enjoying this ROM a lot.
Thanks Firebird
