Bootloader 3.01 - Acer Iconia A500

Hi. I'm not new to android or custom roms, but am new to the a500. I got mine used with stock hc 3.2.1, which I discovered is not rootable (score one for rule #1). Do I downgraded to hc 3.0 via an update.zip and rooted via iconia root app.
ARI doesn't work because I have no recovery. It only shows bootloader 3.01 for recovery and won't install any other recovery.
I also cannot get into adb. I've installed drivers on my Windows 8 pc and also the adb tool. It won't find the a500. I see it in My computer as a flash drive, but the adb utility won't find the device.
So I can't get a new recovery on it.
I would like to eventually put cm10 on it.
Can I get an update.zip of ics with bl8?
Any ideas?

Anyone? Bueller?
ADB is installed properly on my pc, but reports an error #10 and says it cannot connect.
I've tried easy ADB from the play store, but can't get the PC to connect to the tablet.
Blackthund3r a500 manager will not see the tablet no matter what I try.
I'm on windows8 64bit.
Tablet is a500 downgraded to 3.0 and rooted .then OTA to 3.1. Rooted with busybox, verified with root checker.
I've tried various USB ports and cables.
I really want to update the bootloader so I can start flashing.
Any help would be appreciated.

Got access to a machine that's running something other than win8? That or Ubuntu is your only option

[Solved] Recovery Issues with my Transformer

I have rooted my device without issue but now I would like to install CWM. I tried it once before but picked the Xoom rom before I knew there was a custom recovery for the transformer. When I try to go into recovery now, it does not work. I have read that adb reboot recovery does not work. I have also tried putting EP101_SDUPDATE.zip on an sdcard to flash but it won't work with the latest android update. Is there a way to flash it either through adb or console? I am familiar with the dangers of typing incorrect commands in linux (I use Arch Linux on my home PC) so any hard command to manually overwrite such files is cool with me.
Thank you for your help in advance.
just use RecoveryInstaller by Gnufabio

That fixed my issue. Thank you very much! Now... if only I had an extra microsd card lying around.... hmmm...

In sdk manager select android platform tools and asus drivers and install them once thats done open command prompt and go to the directory containing adb for me it was c:/android-sdk/platform-tools
Ensure debbuging mode and asus sync are turned on on your tf101 plug it up and the run the command
adb devices
this will tell if adb sees your device. If it does then run the command
adb shell
then just follow rest of instructions under method 3 in wolf post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622628

I just tried this after installing the new 9.2.1.24 (downloaded from Asus), and it seems to work. I followed Wolf's method 3 without any modifications. I have a TF101, US model.

What BLOB file did you use
well yes, through CWM one can install su-binary then.
but through CWM you will loose OTA-updates!
just look at the time between .21 and now .24... it is quite comfortable as it is.
why can't we use such a "file linking trick" to mount /system and install su-bin directly?
You can't write to /system as it's mounted read only.
What you can do is keep a copy of mmcblk0p4 before writing the new recovery, then flash it back after rooting. That way you keep your ability to upgrade next time around.
good idea!
I'm still a bit unsure about this RECOVERYBLOB flashing,
but if nothing else comes up I can resort to this.

[Q] Afterota V1.09

I tried doing the afterota v1.09 and all I get is the android on his back with the exclamation point coming out of his belly. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work. All I want is clockwork mod and it wont work. I have the ota ICS Version 4.0.3, image version Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1 and I also have root. Thanks for any help out there.
Bryant
You need to use Blackthund3r's APX root tool first. http://d-h.st/OhT
More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
Then you can use AfterOTA after that
I tried that and per the directions which are very sketchy, still can't get anything to work. I am a complete noob when it comes to this. My tablet has the official ICS and it is also rooted using iconia root. All I want is to install CWM so I can change my internal sd card of 16gb to external sd card of 32 gb. Anyone out there want to let me know how.
I also have downloaded ACER recovery Pro and when I load the CWM rev 1.7 by thor2002ro for ICS bootloader it works but when I want to reboot into recovery I get the dead android with the exclamation point. This makes me believe I have a locked bootloader. Any help out there would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Make sure you have the correct apx driver on your pc, then Blackthund3r's apx tool will wor to root and remove the stock recovery from overwriting any custom recoveries. Afterota will then work after that.
When it was asking for drivers I thought it meant acer usb drivers. I went and loaded the drivers that are on the A500 manager. Is this not the right place to get them. Also I thought with the otatool it was supposed to get the SBK# automatically, but it is not working. So do I need to get a driver for the APX tool and if so where do I find this?
Thanks,
Bryan
Need Guide
I'm on OTA ICS (4.0.3) Unlocked Bootloader on my a500.
I am reading various threads in Development section, regarding rooting and bootloader-unlocking, using either blackthund3r's ICSRoot Tool or AfterOTA. I'm more inclined towards using AfterOTA Tool. But I'm not able to find an exhaustive guide to use AfterOTA.
Appreciate if someone can provide any pointers to a step-by-step guide for using AfterOTA or any video demonstrating the process using AfterOTA
Thanks

[Q] Next step to install roms from stock HC 3.2.1?

So just got my A500 and I would like to install CM 10. I used afterota to install the v8 is bootloader and pub recovery however I can't seem to actually enter recovery. This is from a stock a500, I'm nit even rooted at the moment. Tablet works fine now but I would like to know how to actually enter recovery. I have the rom on my SD card ready to flash.

Need help on how to continue

Im trying to get Omnirom on my A500 but i dont remember if i tried rooting once before or where i left off with my tablet since i havent used it in about a year.
I cant get it to be seen by AfterOta or Blackthund33r ICS Root.
Under about Tablet it says
Android Verson 4.0.3
Kernel 2.6.39.4+
Image Version Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1
Build Number Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
Image P/NFm.S14A0.00Y
Now idk if Im on ICS through OTA or if i went the Leak method. Ive tried almost everything i can think of but I cant get anywhere with this. I have my CPUID and SBK but im at a wall now.
How can i get AfterOTA and/or Blackthund3r root to recognize my table when plugged in ? Ive tried different USB ports, ive Installed/uninstalled/reinstalled acer drivers countless times.
Got usb drivers?? There's a minizip in my root guide. The omnirom is that an xda Rom?? If so you'll need to flash skrilax_cz patched bootloader, both flash tools can do this for u. Sometimes running the "babsector.rar" file is just as easy, it resets partitions and flashes bootloader & cwm for u too.
Remember if you are on stock, flash yr Rom directly after flashing the bootloader, boot straight to recovery and flash yr rom.
