Is the Nexus S still worth a buy? - Nexus S General

I've been wanting a Nexus device for some time now, but I'm on a budget. I found an unlocked Nexus S for $80 and was wondering if it's still a good phone and worth the money.
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium

Well the Nexus S has been updated to 4.1 JellyBean so if you are on a budget and want the latest software this is the phone for you afterall 4.2 is still JellyB so the compatibiliti is verry good. I have a friend that has a S1 witch is the same hardwar wise but the same roms on nexus work way better than in S1. It's the best single core out there. If the hardware interests you more and not the software then you could uy a weaker dual core that dosent have the nexus xda suport....it's up to you

Yes. It's worth about $150 if you're considering the overall features you'll get, especially the sound quality via headset jack with voodoo sound.
If you're not going to root the device, it's not worth the buy.

Agree it's a must to root! With the xda support I've surpasses my friends in device longevity and still out preforms some newer devices.

Yes!
Got mine last week unlocked and installed CM 10.1.
Wish it was dual core but it beats the heck out of GB.
Paid $125 for like new condition.

Upgrade: HTC one s or Samsung galaxy nexus?

Sorry dudes/dudettes had to make a change and leave the 9 life mytouch 4g. Which one would you choose? Both cost $99 on windtab. (Aka contract). I went with the HTC one s I've only used it for a day and so far my impressions. Beats audio sound is excellent, cameras is quick and beautiful, quadrant scores of about 5200, speakerphone is loud, battery is pretty darn good. But software... Definitely needs a custom rom. Lol why bother with the question you ask? I pretty much chose the one s because spec wise it is superior to the nexus BUT software wise the nexus will have the latest and greatest from Google.... What would you have done?
Keep in mind I could still exchange it....

lol why don't you just root the One S and be up to date that way?
that's what i would do.
if it were me, i would probably end up getting the One S, but i would definitely think it over lol. the Galaxy Nexus has a removable battery and i find that very useful, something that the HTC One Series doesn't have for some strange reason. you should keep the One S lol

If you have the money, ditch the contract man, it'll save you SO much money within 6 months, expecially if you buy the Nexus.
As for preference, i would have to go with the one s. I actually like sense so thats part of it (its freaking beautiful) but i like the size of it better. I don't need this massive brick of a phone lol. They are pretty much the same once your root them.
I'd do the one s.
The galaxy nexus from a carrier m. I wouldn't trust it for speedy updates

Ok good so the general feedback is the one s was the right choice.
I was thinking about waiting for the new nexus but just like the sgs3 I'm sure it won't be no $99 lol
Lol I've always been against contracts, but nowadays the price of phones has skyrocketed lol I was actually thinking about the sgs3 until I saw the price tag.....on contract lol
No worries tonight at work my only mission is to root this bad boy. Lol
I won't lie I miss the trackball and menu key from our mytouch though.

upgrading from a galaxy nexus, good idea?

I guess I can't turn back now. I already have sold my Galaxy nexus and waiting for the nexus 4 to come out. I just want your guys' opinion. I sold my nexus for 270$, Do you think that was a solid price? The nexus 4 will cost me about a hundred dollars extra (Canadian tax+shipping). Do you think it was a worth upgrade to spend 100$ on? I am getting the 8GB version by the way which is enough for me.
I did the same thing for the same price. I cant wait for my shiny new 4!

Well the guy from computer world that reviewed it said to upgrade from the Gnex. I may wait until closer to christmas time (or black friday) to see if there are super quick deals somewhere.
I guarantee if you wait longer, google will release a 32gb Nexus 4 for 349.99 and the 16gb will get dropped down to 299.99 just like what they did with the Nexus 7's.
I'm keeping my gnex. Don't see any major differences between gnex and nexus 4. Also I'm not a big fan of LG, they don't have a good track record with releasing drivers. Maybe LG will improve but want to wait and see.

That's actually a good deal. However you could get 32GB for same price approximately in the near future.
Sell the GN for about $200ish, then spend about $380 (tax+shipping) for the N4.
If you are financially able to drop around an extra $180 for the upgrade to N4, then yeah it's worth it. But if you're breaking your back to spend that $180 or so, then no it's not worth it as the GN is still more than a capable device.
That should pretty much sum it up. Good luck!

i do... abit for the Z
The Nexus 4 is the perfect phone for me, no doubt about it.
However, being the tech geek that I am there is no doubt in my mind I will grab the Nexus 5 about 6 months after it's released (I don't want to deal with launch-day drama and hardware issues which always seem to plague the initial Nexus releases)
I can say, however, that I will only be buying Nexus phones from now on since they have finally stepped up to the plate with decent hardware and specs. The Gnex was a massive disappointment to me, I sold it within four months of owning it.
Same for me. I had the one x for the last year but it has started giving me trouble by not recognizing the Sim card was in the slot.
I was torn between the nexus 4. HTC one and the galaxy s4.
After much deliberation I went with the nexus 4 and I'm so glad I did.
I owned the nexus one before so I am already accustomed to the nexus experience.
I honestly didn't expect the 4 to be so much better than the one x. Snappier. Better gaming performance and longer battery life.
I'm so glad I switched

trading my htc one for nexus 4?

well the thing is nobody on craigslist is selling one. should i ask for more money? if i honestly deserve more money than $40 plus the trade im sure hed understand and if not i can just keep my htc one. i just kind of like the hardware setup of the htc one as far no hardware keys etc
Is the HTC unlocked? Sell it on eBay and buy the nexus. But honestly, it's not worth it the nexus is somewhat of a downgrade. My bro has a one and the screen and speakers alone are a lot better. Plus, 16gb does suck I have 10 GB of music and I don't like to stream because T-Mobile doesn't have the best signal when I'm driving around town. And if you don't like sense put cm on the phone. The developer edition comes out soon so vanilla Roms should be bug free and updates will be on par with Nexus 4

Sell the one on eBay or clist or swappa. Then buy the nexus off of eBay or the playstore. I think a new nexus is about 350 or so. A HTC one used is about 450 to 500 I'm guessing. The point is that a bad deal on your side. The nexus has been out for about a year and the one for about a month. The nexus can be boght brand new at a cheaper rate then the one.

Nexus 4 has a bad photo camera.
No full LTE support.
No extSD.
but has much better software cos it's vainilla/aosp Android with Google binaries that are supported on AOSP without issues.
The Nexus 4 hardware would be a downgrade. How about you flash your H1 to aosp instead? Then you would have the same software as the nexus.

Agreed, no brainer here either. Better everything, including build. And for the price, for me it's more of a why not.
Although the Note 8 is a pretty damn good tablet all around.
Having a better screen and speakers that are actually useable makes all the difference for me. The build quality seems better to me. I sold my first gen Nexus 7 on ebay months ago because I couldn't watch things on it or listen to music without headphones. Upgraded speed is also a big plus.
I would say yes.
The 4.2 update for the nexus 7 was really bad but the 4.3 update fixed alot of that. That said the new nexus 7 has a great screen and performs much better than the previous model even with the 4.3 update.
IMO, yes. Definitely worth the upgrade for me.
The speakers is what I love about the new 7!

I dropped my old N7 a couple months ago so I've been dying for another e-reader. bought a nook HD+ and quickly returned it since the build on it is crap.
So glad I ended up returning it in the return window because this tablet blows it out of the water and it isn't even a competition. It's an upgrade in every conceivable way to the older N7: physical specs including feel and build quality, software, and hardware.
This is one of those updates where literally everything is upgraded almost across the board, and considering my old N7 was having serious lag issues, it was a no-brainer upgrade for me. There isn't anything that is immediately at another level than the old N7, but when so much is upgraded and refined (screen, speakers, no lag, RAM, processor, build quality) I personally couldn't resist.
I also had the 8 GB N7, and even though I don't use much internal storage at all that was still too little, so moving up to 16 GB should help a lot.
I used my original all day every day for business and then reading at home.
This model is certainly snappier and the added resolution really helps for docs etc during a meeting.

They are available in lots of stores. If they're still in stock. GameStop, Staples and Walmart... That I know of. Got mine at Best buy. For some reason, nobody is waiting for the release date that was announced.

Yes, there is no real comparison between the two. It is a full on sequel in every way.
It is that much better. Screen is amazing, and sound is amazing, so loud, camera still sucks' back camera sucks,. If you have the original nxus 7 its a decent upgrade.,, I returned mine. Will wait for nexus 7 3.
Its pretty good. Screen is nice and the speakers are much louder. Its a good bit faster as well.
I'm still on the fence about whether it is worth it tho.
Both my 7's are on 4.3 if that matters.
