HI guys, just thought I would share this. I was watching a leaked Youtube video showing the new interface for the PS4 when I was a wee bit surprised to see our beloved handset used as a sort-of second screen for the PS4. Have a look, it's near the end - http://youtu.be/1OegYm1dM9g
A companion Android and iOS app will be released
Make believe

Seems to be an android app for the none game part of the ps4. So store, chat, video etc.
I kinda hope that the streaming gaming service will be made available for Android. Would be nice if they released a Sony joystick add one for it. As far as I know only the vita can be used as a second screen for gaming and game streaming
Yes, this was confirmed back on February 20th when the Playstation conference happened. You can buy games and have them download remotely on your phone, send text chat to friends and even do stuff like Commander Mode for BF4.

Technically it's very possible. With 4.2.2 we're getting DualShock support on the Xperia Z too so pretty much everything is in place.

It's possible but official support on the Z is coming with 4.2.2. On the SP you can use it with 4.1.2 and with third-party apps you can use it on any Android phone.

according to joystiq, sony are planning to launch a playstation branded phone which runs android 3.0 and it can also run psp games. Seems like a very interesting concept and if they do it, i'd be very tempted to buy it.

true, the xperia x10 isnt the most slender handset on the market but then again the psp isnt very portable either. I thought the concept of having psp games on other android handsets was interesting though, not too sure how it would work without the hardware controls.
well its sound pretty nice, but first time i heard the n-gage came to my mind. Not like comparing the two but yea. It would be successful if they add a good battery. So will it like replace the psp or like if it comes out what happens to the psp?
But before SE begins with this they better fix and work on the X10 first, until then they can shove the xperia psp up there.

Yeaa! I saw it on Engadget too from here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/11/exclusive-sony-ericsson-to-introduce-android-3-0-gaming-platfor/
Note that the picture isn't the actual phone but its a poor mockup from the site. It's suppose to run on Gingerbread 3.0 too? hmm, can't wait how this PSP phone will turn out. I bet the news satisfies a lot of SE fans who've been waiting for this dream phone
I bet it's going turn into an nightmare phone lol

well windows phone 7 supports the whole xbox live system (meaning it'll have achievements etc) so its practically an "xbox phone".
I just hope they support the x10 even when this new phone is out.
Having access to xbox live is different to playing games on your phone.
It will have to have one hell of a battery!

Hi Everyone,
I saw a lot of posts in Xperia Play section like " I will buy a new phone. I will switch my Play. " I know, the reason is ICS update. But, If we get ICS, we will never use it smoothly, right ? Ice Cream Sandiwch was came a lot of Xperia. But, which Xperia can use ICS smoothly ? Let's assume that, we got ICS. ICS uses a lot of RAM. (Let anyone accept this, please!) And ICS isn't a gaming friend. But Xperia Play is gaming phone. I mean ICS is not for us anyway. What do you guys think ?
hmm, older phones with similar or worse specs can handle ics well, like nexus s,htc one v (same chipset, 512mb ram)
The problem with ICS is the gaming aspect, not hardware limitations.

People are too spoiled these days. Once they learn that a newer version of ANYTHING is coming to their device, they absolutely HAVE to have it. And if a company decides to back out of its promise (like Sony did with ICS for Xperia Play), people will cry on internet forums and some even decide to get rid of their phone in favour of another one that can run ICS. Though they somehow ignore the fact that doing this, they lose the BIGGEST advantage Xperia Play has over any other phone - physical controls.
My next phone will be Sony Xperia U SK25i
Getting it near Xmas and will keep my play

I think ICS is just have Beautiful UI , Nova Launcher and Chrome. I'm happy with Gingerbread. **** you sony, I dont care ICS so you can stop any development you want
Tapatalk 2 ile R800i cihazımdan gönderildi
It's not about ICS itself, it's about Sony not keeping promises: ICS, PSP games etc.
Speaking for myself, The Xperia play is a good phone, not great, i bought seeking for game specs on a phone, such as you would by a pc for games, you would think it would have alot more then any phone, but in fact it had less specs the only thing it has is physical controls, but in may games you can switch your physical keyboard to make it a gamepad or add a usb gamepad to work with it, so it really doesnt give you such a difference, im always laggy on games and even on the homescreen some times, ICS on the rom from keiran im running much better then on the 2.3.4 official firmware, thats why im going to leave behind the play.
Besides the fact of sony backing up on releasing the ICS which i've been expected since they announce it

sony should just release the sources for their touchpads, this would be great, and we can finally switch to roms like cm9 and aokp with touchpad support!
Well, for me I'll switch back to good old HTC with the One X this time, only reason I bought an SE Xperia is cause of the gamepad and so far it's been a real good experience. I don't care about the ICS it's ugly. One X with MIUI rom I'm looking forward to.
As someone who had a Galaxy Nexus and used a USB OTG cable for my USB gamepad, the Play is a savior. I thought I'd be all set, but it prevents you from charging the device at the same time. Plus you have to prop it up somewhere. It was really annoying. Nothing beats physical controls, and this thing runs emulators like a champ. No complaints here.
The fact that I know for as long as I have this phone I need to stick to the same version is depressing. Since I cant unlock my bl I can't install the epic Roms. Thats the only reason I no longer want to keep my phone, id rather a regularly updated one. But I'm not selling this phone yet. I'll give it awhile.

Why can't you unlock? At least you don't have to pay like R800x users.
I also still like the play and as I got no extra money, I won't be able to switch to another phone in a while.
That it's not getting update to ICS is for me on the one side noot so much important...
But on the other site... I simply hate getting lied right to my face, and thats what happend here. I bought the phone with SONY's promise it will get ICS in April and now it doesn't.
Thats actually ground enough to sue them because they tricked you into buying it with false promises.
Highlighting that aspect from another side - They are not keeping their well documented promise to update to android 4, that means my phone is missing all the functions an android 4 update would have brought -> Underperforming phone / phone with missing functionalities, as they promised to update and now do not. Should be enough to get some money back as you do not get the full functionalities you actually bought by paying full price...
tbh. I'm just pissed of at the company right now... Sony (we) make. (You) believe
I got the galaxy 3 and I'm not looking back.. Best phone I've ever had

I simply hate touch screen controls and dont see myself getting another phone unless it has the game controls....so much better then touchscreen.
I really don't get it sow much people want an xperia play 2 or a phone like this but sony keeps saying no, why :s make an xperia play HD or at least a phone wits psych controls is enough for the most i think

Yeah, me too. A shame that they are not planing it just yet.
If it wasn't for the release price of the Xperia Play, I think that more people would have bought it. At least here, in Portugal.
It's still too early to be announcing the Xperia Play 2 cause the Vita was released a few months ago.
I bet SE were thinking, "How great are we, a part of a gamepad that is sort of a touchscreen, not buttons? Aren't we clever and innovative?"
Hmmm... No.

Bcz XP is successfully as a play phone, but for help much to expend the PlayStation @ Android market.
I think for Sony, their aim is to sell the game but not just the phone.
Sony has sunk a lot of cash into the slow to react vita.... This is the reason for no ics.... Or a ver. 2......

It's easy to understand: if the Playstation Certified brand becomes a success then maybe we'll see a Xperia Play 2.
I don't get why Sony tries to piss off so much the XPlay owners/commmunity. Instead of continuously giving out bad news for the device, they should try to reconcile with us by giving something else in change.
Although Sony is a nice company with great ideas, concepts and products, they seem to fail at this matter. I am still waiting for a good update for XPlay with many new additions.
It won't be an Xperia Play 2. It'll be a "Playstation Phone"
It won't be either, Sony wanted to kill the play ever since they found out someone bought one instead of a vita.
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
Whatever they do, a phone with Vita OS won't stand a chance.
First, majority of people need their phone to be dependable and secure, and NOT be a "plaything". An OS that evolved around a game console simply won't be treated seriously by consumers.
Second, Apps from all the major players are required such as google map, gmail, facebook, twitter, flash player, whatsapp, youtube, dropbox, etc... needless to say there's always arm-twisting between these, and other companies, to prevent any new OS from succeeding.
Without a serious image and support from these companies, a phone running on such an OS won't hit a critical mass required to attract app/content developers, and it will flop even harder than Xperia PLAY.
At this time, the next Xperia Play's best OS choice is still Android. But even then, I think Sony really dislike the idea of Playstation ecosystem sitting on top of Android. They may think it changes too fast, too many different hardware, or difficult to control piracy.
So even the best choice is not appealing. So I think Sony won't be putting Playstation content on Smartphones for years yet. And that's a shame because It think that's exactly what we all want happening now.
If you haven't heard, Sony and HTC are now partners with regards to PlayStation Certified devices, domains that's where the next Xperia PLAY will come from, although I haven't seen a flip or slide phone from HTC that sold well since the mytouch 4g. All I can say is that the next series of android phones will be very interesting to see, and only then can we truly discover where the xperia play will go.

I'm seriously hoping HTC produces a phone with a gamepad. I've had a thing against sony for a long time (going back to before PS3 launched, but its gotten ever worse ever since). I was seriously biting the bullet to get this phone for its gamepad functionality. I've always wanted an HTC phone, and if they manage to come out with a game phone with decent specs, I'll be all over it. Anything to shoot sony the bird.
If they gave the xperia play higher specs and made it more future proof then they would be seeing them starting to fly out now. Ironic at e3 they were saying they only put out the best.
This xperia play belongs in 2010

So I finished watching the PS4 press conference, and its all great, but I saw the Xperia Z mentioned trought and they said something about streaming ps1,2,3 games across the vita, tablets and phones. Now,I remember when I got my Xperia Play,Playstation certified was this big thing they overhyped where you were supposed to get playstation games and now its just a half-baked store nobody uses. Now,the technology exists,I've played pc games over OnLive with no lag on my 2 year old phone. I persionally think sony is gonna push playstation games to be streamed and downloaded on certified devices(legit store with lots of games),but they make a lot of promises they cant fulfil.
Anyways let me know what you think...I need a break from these trolls and 10 posts a day about HTC

Never used the option on my 1 year old Xperia S. Saw a few games in a app hopeless in age but the price was in the very high end so no reason to start that adventure.

it will be more meaningful once the trophies and leader board system is in place.
Never really used it since FPSE is doing wonders... It's nice to have it, but I have to try it out more - hopefully they'll integrate it with PS3's Playstation Network, add trophies and more games. Maybe PSP games, but I wouldn't count on it.
Playstation cert is just markrting.
I have few games which is awesome on grpahics side, but gameplay is like kid 5 years old made it.
I will never buy any game from PSM store.
Also they said that playstation phones will come somehow hybrid android, which could reboot or switch to playstation VITA rom, (like psvita, and that could make games compatibile to any ps phone) but no, sony didnt do anything.

I'm pretty sure that was a fan made-up rumour...
Anyway, I agree, Playstation certificate is a wasted potential. PSX emulators can do MUCH more than Sony's official PS app. Ok, i understand, you need to have the original PSX and games to be able to legally use emulators - but hey, who doesn't keep his old PSX on a silk pillow right ? I certainly do!
So about the PSN app...they really need to put more work into it. Come on Sony, you have thousands of games ready to enchance your smartphones, use it! If third-party emulators can flawlessly run each PSX games, you certainly can as well.
No, that wasnt fan boy rumor.

Shame they didn't introduce it already if they said they would
First, the iPega: http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/ipega-android-gaming-tablet-launching-in-may-video-18-04-2013/
Then the IbenX: http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/ibenx-gamepad-android-gaming-tablet-unveiled-15-04-2013/
I think the iPega would be better, with a very nice gamepad, and more portable. I think it would need a quad core processor to beat the IbenX and the upcoming Wikipad. Thoughts?
I like the ibenx better though id never buy either. The Ipega looks like it has a smaller screen and I don't like the awkward shape of it. But I wouldn't replace my play with either of those. Though I would if they made a phone like the party but with analog sticks like the vita instead of touch pads. Awesome! Thank you for sharing. I will be taking a look at it.
The thing about the Xperia Play, is that it could switch from phone to PSP in a matter of seconds. These "Alternatives" are just android devices that were made for gaming, but do you really see yourself having a conversation with one of these things?

Yeah. The killer feature in the XP for me is that, when you hide the gamepad it's a smartphone like any other.
I don't see myself with a gamepad or handheld console style device as smartphone.
Some company should make something similar to the XP. I can't understand why there's nothing similar with so many Android devices released around the world and even an increasing number of Android gaming devices.

Couldn't agree more. xplay has been my one and only phone/gaming device. I could never see myself playing games using a touch screen. It's downright stupid. With all these andoird gaming devices I just cant see why none of em has tried to make a phone/gaming hybrid like the xplay.
