Nexus 4 + Cruzerlite cases - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Quick question, I was interested in a Cruzerlite Bugdroid Circuit case for my N4, but I was wondering if the case would lift up my screen protector (using a Extreme Guard protector, covers the glass edge to edge). If anyone with some experience with the case and a full covered screen protector let me know how it worked out for you I'd appreciate it.

I have a cruzerlite case. It does not have the lip around the edges. So it won't cause the screen protector lifts.

Anyone else have any info on this? I'd like to get some more opinions or info from more people so I can get a good general idea if it does lift screen protectors or not before I purchase cause shipping to Canada is damn expensive from Cruzerlite. From the videos I've seen it seems like it would since it covers some bezel so I would assume when putting it on it would, but if it's a tight enough fit I'm assuming it may or may not lift the screen protectors (wet apply types) either if put on properly right away,

You will need to head over to the accessory department of the Nexus 4 forum.

Using stock screen protectors permanently a bad idea?

I'm planning on using the stock front, back, and side screen protectors for my new Nexus 4 but have not seen many people doing the same. Is anyone using the stock protectors or is there harm doing so long-term? I am planning on using this with a the Exact Armour Case (sold on Amazon) too...
The front protector ist often not applied very well and has symbols für Volume an Power printed on it.
The back protector fits perfectly.
Iam only using them till they fall off^^ I dont think they will last very long.

Why would you want to use them? It's got Gorilla glass 2, so it's not like it's gonna get scratched easily. The only protection you could get is against hitting and the screen protectors can't help you there.
Pretty certain that there's no side protectors. I'm still using the stock protectors until my BSE ones arrive. Problem is they are designed to be removed easily, especially the back one, so it's actually already coming loose just because my hand grazes the removal tab.

Because it's been established that the glass still scratches easily, even though it's marketed as gorilla glass. Mine got 2 micro scratches before I decided to put a screen protector on - it's a common issue.
Gorilla Glass is quite resistant to scratches from the key or coins (in your pocket) but a simple grain of sand can make visible scratch on it! I used stock screen protectors but they started to come off after a week, so I bought Spigen Dual Ultra Crystal for my Nexy and I'm definitely satisfied with it.:victory:

Some of the phones were coming with protectors around the sides too, some weren't.
How is the friction of the finger to the screen then? Is it much worse than without using a protector?

using the stock screen protectors is probably the worst thing you can do. They're not really even screen protectors at all. They are much more flimsy and thinner then a screen protector and why would you want to keep them on when the front has the buttons printed on them and the back has the IMEI on it. If you want protection get the SGP dual protector.

I don't have any screen protector on my N7. Most people buy a case, that covers the screen too. The N7 has scratch resistant screen (not Gorilla Glass, but almost), and I think it is enough for daily use, and when you have to put it in your backpack, you can use the case. (And it's not too easy to install those screen protectors without any little bubbles, I tried )

Is that official Nexus case enough ?
A screen protector won't prevent the fragile Nexus glass from breaking if it is dropped. I use a matte screen protector since it lets my finger glide over the surface and reduces smudges and reflections. It just feels better than the bare glass. Tricky to apply but worth the effort. Mine has been on for over a month with no signs of wear.
Here's a kit with 3 protectors, case and OTG USB cable. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA07R0FR8332
Maybe putting the silicone case on backwards will help protect the glass from breakage during transport.
Google for the best prices on matte screen protectors. No need for an HDMI cable as there is no matching connector on the Nexus.
I have no screen protector since I like the feel of the screen as it is. After 3 months of constant use, I only have few, tiny scratches.
You decide if you like to enjoy the N7 like it is out of the box (all slim with nice glass and stuff) but with few small scratches; or you want to avoid scratches completely and have bulky covers + some plastic on the screen.

You Should!
I regret not buying one for mine, i have many nasty scratches! The Nexus 7 can easily get scratched
I just bought a Skinomi protector last week sometime. Still waiting for a few bubbles to smooth out but other than that I like it. Easy install and my fingers can still slide well on the screen. The only time it feels a little "rubbery" is when typing. Overall I would recommend.

I'm glad I'm not the only one in this boat. I have a pack of tec armor non-glossy stickers sitting here. I tried for 30 minutes one day to get one on that :
a. did not interfere with camera [not that I use it...]
b. no air bubbles
c. properly aligned.
fail.
it was basically impossible with my fingers/hands and the static electricity attraction. the thing would jump almost an inch to attach itself randomly.
if i were terribly interested I would try to build a cardboard frame or something to align such a thing properly, but that wouldn't help with bubbles or wrinkles or whatever.
I use this protector in the ultra crystal. I found it was much easier to install than Zagg and other wet install protectors. Hardest part was keeping the dust off the screen long enough and that problem was solved by installing in the bathroom after steaming the room with the shower. I prefer the peace of mind of a screen protector, but I'm more paranoid than some.

The only reason you would need a screen protector is if you plan to use the touchscreen in a Beach or construction site constantly. The only way top scratch a gorilla glass screen is to force something harder than gorilla glass on the screen.
(Gorilla glass sits between 8-9 on the scale, for reference diamonds sit at 10)

Wrong. And what does Gorilla Glass have to do with this? The nexus 7 does NOT have Gorilla Glass.

I use a screen protector for my N7, I highly suggest it though, probably because I like my electronics to look fresh after months.

I dont know what to do...Some says it needed but some says dont want......i'm middle of nowhere
Like I said, in the end you'll have to decide yourself. There's a lot of people out there that prefer the feel of naked glass and say they have no scratches, personally I'm not willing to risk even the minor microscopic scratches that are only noticeable at just the right angle with the screen off, so I use protectors.

[Q] Screen Protector and Ballistic Case

I have a Ballistic case for my Nexus 4 but keep finding that it pushed the cornets of my skinomi screen protector up. Because of this the corners have lost their stick and keep peeling. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on screen protectors that seem to work with this case or any similar cases? U fear this screen protector will not last very long at the rate it pulls off the screen.
I saw a similar post from last month but only one reply and so any other recomendatikns?

It's been a while since you posted your question, and I don't have any real suggestions, but I have found the same problem with the Ballistic SG case and the GadgetShieldz screen protector on my wife's Nexus 4. I'm planning to get another Nexus 4 for myself and will get the Ballistic case, but if I get another GadgetShieldz protector I'd be inclined to trim the protector a little so that the edges of the case do not contact the protector; perhaps the same procedure would be appropriate for other screen protectors too.
BTW, although Ballistic does not offer an "SG Maxx" case (which includes a holster) for the Nexus 4, I have found that the holster for the Samsung Galaxy S3 (which I bought separately on eBay) seems to fit the Nexus 4 plus Ballistic SG case nicely.

S-view case scratches screen

Anyone experience this? I see minor abrasions on my screen only where the s-view window touches the screen. Any suggestions to remove the abrasions or remedy the issue?

This hasn't happened to me yet but now I'm paranoid. Does anyone know of an armor style flip case? I dropped mine the the other day and scratched the aluminium on the bottom right corner. Heartbreaking.
I literally only just got an S-View cover a day ago after being caseless for a while.... I do have a screen protector on though and all I notice is the S-View square does make an imprint on the protector, If I had no protector on then I guess it would make a little scratch, It seems the plexiglass on the S-View is slightly raised/corners a tad sharp. Manufacturing issue most probably.
I have many small abrasions in this square window area. Has anyone received a solution from calling samsung? Verizom won't do squat.

Which S-View are you guys using? I have the wireless charging one and like I mentioned I have not experienced this issue, although time will tell I guess. Also how long did it take for the scratches to start appearing? Edit: Nevermimd the last question, literally a day. Sorry I didn't notice.
I have the normal S-View (Non Wireless) -- The packaging on mine is a little bit older than the other colours that were for sale in Phones4U near me. (mine is black)
I noticed the imprint on the screen protector as soon as I had closed the cover. And felt around the edges which were slightly raised.
I've had mine for a couple of months now.

Which model, wireless or non? This is disheartening. I'm scared to even close the damn thing now. It's been a week for me and nothing happened yet, but a big risk to take on a $750 phone
It really is a shame. I'm waiting for a glass screen cover to take on the scratches from now on until samsung hopefully recalls or resolves this issue.

Indeed it is, many small abrasions from the two touching repeatedly. I thought the new iteration of gorilla glass was a lot stronger than this, but apparently it is not.

Yes indeed!!!
Got a official S View case (black) put it on my note 3 and within 2-3 wks started noticing a very fine straight line across the screen at the bottom of the s view window, tried rubbing, cleaning, polishing, with NO luck. Bought a spigen glass tr and haven't used the damn S view cover again. Sucks spending $65 for a cover that ruins the glass...
I can tell that its not only the S-view cover that damage the screen, also the original Flip wallet cover damage the screen. The carveing for the visit-cards edge, will also damage the screen. I have a fine straight horizontal line on my screen at the bottom of the visit, card carveing. From the middle and out to the right side of the screen, then vertical all the way up followed again by the visitcard-carveing, then at the top of the carveing I have again a fine horizontal line from the right side of the screen to about the middle of the screen.
Screenshot where I tryed my best to follow where these lines are:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/r4u1k3ydln9yivt/tempFileForShare.jpg
Its pretty much impossible to see unless you got some finger grease on the screen, but with the s-pen it feels like crossing the atlantic....
Question now is, what els is there... If it wasnt a original cover there would be nothing to do...
Hmmm. well I have been using the S-View cover for several months now and my screen has zero scratches. I keep the phone in my bag or trouser pockets and no problems at all.
When I bought the Note 3 on launch day back in September, I asked about the S-View cover and was told stock would be delayed as original stock was sent back to manufacturer because of quality control issues. I am wondering if there was an issue with earlier models of the case related to scratching. Just a theory. I used a standard S-View cover at first then replaced it for the wireless charging version, again this was further delayed before stocks were available so maybe there have been significant improvements.
So, it is possible to have this case protect your phone without the need for an ugly screen protector. I have never used one of those on any of my numerous touchscreen devices over the years, I maintain as long as you take good care of the phone it does not need one. For those that work/live in dusty environments I guess it's a good idea but day to day the S-View case on its own is sufficient in my opinion.
I have the s-view cover for a month now and screen is still absolutely perfect.
Sent from Note 3 SM-N9005
The view cover scratched my phone in just a week, so I had to buy a screen protector.
The scratches are located exactly where the screen of the cover is located.
I guess that's because I've answered the calls with the cover closed, and by pressing it, the existing dust made his job :-\
The Protectors..
Sorry to hear all those screen scratches .. well at least they are not broken into pieces .. I said that because last time I read about Note 3 screen replacement (gorilla glass) it will cost around $250..
The first thing I was proposed by the Samsung sales when I bought Note 3 was to buy a screen (film) protector, I hesitated previously but accept to buy it anyway because I dont have time to argue. At home I didnt really care about the film protector because as soon as I saw Spigen release the Glass.tr tempered glass protector I bought it from local reseller and replace the original film protector with Glass.tr. and then I realized that the old film protector was still reusable so I put the old film protector on top of Spigen Glass.tr.. Lolz but it worked! .. so my phone now using SView cover with double screen protector
I also pre-ordered Spigen S View slim cover to replace my old S View cover (I need it to protect all sides (edges) of my Note 3 as Spigen said Glass.tr will broke if hit by its edges). Soon my Note 3 hopefully will be protected on all corners.. up .. bottom. .. and all edges.. hopefully.. please God bless me.

Any recommendations for glass screen protectors?

I have tried a couple different screen protectors for this phone but have not been able to find one that works with a case. I have the Spigen ultra hybrid air cushion case. Every screen protector I have tried just ends up being pushed off by the case or cracked because for some reason all manufacturers decided to make their screen protectors go all the way around the edge where it will bump into the case.
I know the reason it's so tough is because of the edge because I've never had this issue with any other phone I've ever owned. (first edge) If anyone has any recommendations I would really appreciate it, and I would much prefer to stick with a glass protector as I find the regular ones really don't do anything in terms of protection against drops.
GPEL 2nd-gen TGSP works great for me. I have a review with pics posted up in the Accessories section.
