Hey guys.. just got my s4 a few days ago and this is actually my first post. I was wondering if anyone has any static/hissing issues when using the auxiliary port in your car? Seems to be on/off and much more noticeable between tracks.

I have this when I use the stock music player, but not when using Poweramp.
I noticed AOSP ROMS have static associated with the stock music player. No evidence on stock TW software.
Im not rooted or anything. Im usually using songza the app in my car and AT&T already replaced the phone for the same problem. Has anyone ever tried a special aux wire with a static reducer or something integrated?

I never heard this on froyo but every gb rom I've tried even cm7 when I play pandora I get a electric crackle through my speakers. I've tried high quality mode which its not as bad as normal but its still there. This also happens with or without voodoo. I have also uninstalled and re installed from the market. Is this happening to anyone else or know a fix or is it the kernel?

If you're talking about external speakers, make sure the speakers aren't too close to the phone or any other wireless devices.
I'm having the same issue with my epic, my wife is also having the issue on her stock nexus s. It happens with or without external speakers plugged in.

This happens in my truck with my phone plugged into cd player with 3.5mm jack and my phone sits on passenger side seat. It has always sat in the same spot while I listen to pandora since froyo. The funny thing is I don't hear the crackle if I use music player its only pandora. So then maybe its just pandora needs to update their app.

I've noticed this in the car, both over bluetooth and through the auxiliary input. It seems to do it less at home when I'm on WiFi, though.

Had this problem as well I put it in high quality then restarted the app and that seems to work as I can't hear the crackle anymore but most likely pandoras fault there was a recent update that may have caused this

I have emailed pandora from the market and I guess we will see if they reply or update the app

Mine seems to have improved significantly over the last week. Is anyone still having trouble?

I just opened up my world to Pandora the other day, noticed this right away. I've never been a big music guy, but either way, I'm noticing the same exact thing. Both in my car through the 3.5mm jack and at home over Wifi.
I've not used Pandora in a long time, so I can't comment on its abilities with the Epic but- I will suggest trying Slacker Radio. I switched to it months ago and haven't looked back. I personally like it a lot better and it seems to work great so far.

Anyone having this issue with pandora if you are completely stock could you download log collector from the market then upload the log here and I can send that to pandora?
You obviously have to be running the log before its crackling.

I have noticed the same thing, running legendary / samurai. In particular occasional high pitched squeaks and beeps. Thanks for letting me know it's not my imagination.
So glad I came across this thread!
Just upgraded from CM9 RC2 (where Pandora worked flawlessly) to CM9 stable and I started hearing the crackling and it only seems to be linked to Pandora.
Also on the speaker. I tried diff apps but to no avail. Is there a config file that can be added or edited to boost volume? I really think the volume is set lower than it should be. Anyone?

I use sound booster but you have to keep fiddling to get a percentage that works.
Keep an eye on the X louder mod and hope he brings out a 4.2 version soon

Cool but I hate 4.2 because of the bugs. Anyway, there must be config files to edit the volume. These apps don't seem to do Nada.

I do not want to root at this time for various reasons. Stupid of me for even posting this seeing you would have to have su in order to edit config files or run scripts. I noticed volume+ on the play store states that the app will most likely not work unless you're rooted. Bummer.
I just flashed back and do not want lose everything nor do I want to back everything up. Wish they would just provide a way to boost volume or would have tested the volume on the device! It's too low!

Depends on where you buy it, it maybe be a ear safety regulation, I know in some countries volume must not exceed certain value. For example, if you get an iPod in US or France, then the US one is going to be way louder.
I don't know whether this is the case with N7, or just a design flaw.
Mine used to do the same until I installed the apps called ear piece and speaker boost and use them together also go into there settings and adjust them to a 100% GOD BLESS YOU GUYS

Those two apps do work but I am picky. Wish I could have the boost and not lose the bass. They only seem to boost midrange a bit and then distort. If I use Google music eq it cuts the apps out and vice versa. I am still experimenting. Thanks for all the help. God bless you as well.

Well I discovered the problem. I am a dimwit! It was partially my over the ear headphones! I tried some ear buds with the equalizer app and it is amazing! Lol...forgive.....

By the way. The eq in Google music works just fine. No need for me to even use an app.

Big headphones require more power
And usually those are oriented more towards clean studio sound (unless you're using Beats, which is just bass and some more bass and nothing else)
Try connecting N7 to big headphones trough an amplifier, I'm sure you'll notice the difference.
I'm glad you figured it out.
Hi there I want to know if there's a way to disable the headphones jack hw , like in build prop or something. Since I can't unplug it by opening my n4.
I will appreciate a lot. My jack is bad I prefer not to use headphones than dealing with the crap of not hearing during call or no screen off.
Thanks

I was looking at sys/bus , but I see that in /system is where the drivers are. I donĀ“t want to disable all the audio things! Just the headset. I have to find out wich one is it.
Thanks!
Hey guys. I have a nexus 7 32gb wifi. Have had it for a year and its been fine. I mainly use for music in my vehicle.
Recently certain sounds in songs I can't hear or it's very very low. I am using it through the headphone jack. When I unplug the headphone it sounds fine through the internal speaker.
I'm running pacman rom 4.2.2. I recently added the Beats mod to see if it would fix it by using a different equalizer. No such luck though. The equalizer works great though. Any ideas?

Hey all
I am running a tw 4.4.2 rom (kingdroid at the moment but had the same problem on others).
Using the stock music app or play music (a haven't tried others) when listening to music on headphones the audio will randomly be sent out of the phone speaker and headphone jack at the same time.
I have no idea why.
All I do know is I intended to use this phone instead of a dedicated audio player but I can't as randomly I scared the hell out of old people on the train.
Is this a known issue?
Any advice would be fantastic as I am so close to going and spending stupid money on a dap that I really just don't have lol.
Thanks in advance.
Scott

Update:
This occurs on all audio.
Eg.
Phone calls will route audio via ear piece and speaker. Music will play vis headphones and speaker.
All audio routes as it is meant too but in addition via the speaker.
The issue is intermittent.
No obvious trigger
